It turns out that repulsive effect due to rotation of a rotating black hole dominates over attraction due to mass for large $r$ in dimensions $>5$. This gives rise to a remarkable result that black hole in these higher dimensions in contrast to lower dimensional ones cannot be overspun even under linear test particle accretion. Further if a black hole in dimension $>4$ has one of its rotation parameters zero, it has only one horizon and hence it can never be overspun. Thus rotating black holes in six and higher dimensions, and those with one rotation parameter switched off, would always obey the weak cosmic censorship conjecture (WCCC).
We check the weak cosmic censorship conjecture by attempting to overspin the Kerr-Newman-Kasuya black hole with test particle. The study suggests that the Kerr-Newman-Kasuya black hole can be over-spun showing the violation of cosmic censorship conjecture.
We revisit here the recent proposal for overspinning a nearly extreme black hole by means of a quantum tunneling process. We show that electrically neutral massless fermions evade possible back reactions effects related to superradiance, confirming the view that it would be indeed possible to form a naked singularity due to quantum effects.
It has been claimed that in a test of an asymptotically AdS version of weak cosmic censorship conjecture by attempting to overspin a BTZ black hole with test particles, one finds that it is not possible to spin-up the black hole past its extremal limit. The result of this analysis is restricted to the case where the initial black hole is extremal. We extend this analysis to find that massive test particles can overspin the black hole, if we start with a nearly extremal black hole, instead. We also consider the interaction of the BTZ black hole with test fields. We show that overspinning of nea…
We study the scenario in which a massive particle is thrown into a rapidly rotating Kerr black hole in an attempt to spin it up beyond its extremal limit, challenging weak cosmic censorship. We work in black-hole perturbation theory, and focus on non-spinning, uncharged particles sent in on equatorial orbits. We first identify the complete parameter-space region in which overspinning occurs when back-reaction effects from the particle's self-gravity are ignored. We find, in particular, that overspinning can be achieved only with particles sent in from infinity. Gravitational self-force effects…
We evaluate the validity of the weak form of the cosmic censorship conjecture and the third law of black hole dynamics for Kerr-MOG black holes interacting with scalar test fields. Ignoring backreaction effects, we first show that both extremal and nearly extremal Kerr-MOG black holes can be overspun into naked singularities by scalar test fields with a frequency slightly above the superradiance limit. In addition, nearly extremal Kerr-Mog black holes can be continuously driven to extremality by test fields. Next, we employ backreaction effects based on the argument that the angular velocity o…
We examine a nearly extreme macroscopic Reissner-Nordstrom black hole in the context of semi-classical gravity. The absorption rate associated with the quantum tunneling process of scalar particles whereby this black hole can acquire enough angular momentum to violate the weak cosmic censorship conjecture is shown to be nonzero.
Hawking radiation acts as a cosmic censor since it carries away the angular momentum of the black hole, proportionally more than its mass. In this work we first show that an extremal black hole cannot exist since it will be pushed away from extremality by its own Hawking radiation, without being perturbed by any external effect. We evaluate the efficiency of Hawking radiation to prevent overspinning of black holes. We make an order of magnitude estimate to show that evaporation can prevent overspinning of black holes with an upper limit of mass $M\lesssim 10^{17}-10^{18}\rm{g}$, when we take t…
We have developed a methodology to test the age-old cosmic censorship hypothesis in Kerr geometry. We have shown that the Kerr black hole can be overspun by particles captured from the innermost stable circular orbit. However, it appears that this does not happen for particles coming from infinity. We have also observed that overspinning becomes possible only when the black hole approaches a near-extremal limit, which approaches as we increase the black hole's mass. Our study demonstrates that an extremal black hole cannot be overspun. However, our methodology neglects backreaction and self-fo…
In the conventional approach, fermionic test fields lead to a generic overspinning of black holes resulting in the formation of naked singularities. The absorption of the fermionic test fields with arbitrarily low frequencies is allowed for which the contribution to the angular momentum parameter of the space-time diverges. Recently we have suggested a more subtle treatment of the problem considering the fact that only the fraction of the test fields that is absorbed by the black hole contributes to the space-time parameters. Here, we re-consider the interaction of massless spin $(1/2)$ fields…
We argue that the variational method in Wald type thought experiments, involves order of magnitude problems when one imposes the fact that $δM$ is inherently a first order quantity itself. One observes that the contribution of the second order perturbations is actually of the fourth order. Therefore backreactions have to be explicitly calculated. Here, we re-consider the overspinning problem for Kerr-Newman black holes interacting with test fields. We calculate the backreaction effects due to the induced increase in the angular velocity of the event horizon, which brings a partial solution to …
It is known that a near-extremal Kerr black hole can be spun up beyond its extremal limit by capturing a test particle. Here we show that overspinning is always averted once back-reaction from the particle's own gravity is properly taken into account. We focus on nonspinning, uncharged, massive particles thrown in along the equatorial plane, and work in the first-order self-force approximation (i.e., we include all relevant corrections to the particle's acceleration through linear order in the ratio, assumed small, between the particle's energy and the black hole's mass). Our calculation is a …
In this paper, we investigate the Weak Cosmic Censorship Conjecture in nearly extremal Kerr black hole by absorbing particles . In previous work, they ignore the process of black hole absorbing particles. They assume the whole particle can be absorbed and the overspinning occurs. However, it is questionable whether the whole particle can be absorbed. Therefore, we will investigate it in this paper. We consider the absorption process of a particle with finite size. During this absorption process, the black hole's parameters will change. This change will prevent the rest part of particle enter b…
We investigate the destroying of charged and rotating black holes in Einstein-Maxwell-(dilaton) theory. We show that a test particle with some appropriate properties in the black hole background can turn the black hole into a naked singularity. In this work, we neglect the self-force, self-energy, and radiative effects as considered by some others in literature. As the result, we are able to show that the Kerr-Newman and Kaluza-Klein black holes can be destroyed by the test particle. Furthermore, for Kaluza-Klein black hole, we consider the overspinning of the black hole by a neutral test scal…
In this work we investigate validity of the weak form of the cosmic censorship conjecture in the interaction of Kerr-Sen black holes with neutral test fields. Previous studies of the Klein-Gordon equation on Kerr-Sen background imply that superradiance occurs for scalar fields. We show that scalar fields can overspin a nearly extremal black hole into a naked singularity, but the modes that could overspin an extremal black hole are not absorbed due to superradiance. From Kerr analogy one can naively expect superradiance to be absent for fermionic fields. In such a case overspinning becomes gene…
Adopting the notation of Teukolsky and Press, we derive the connection relation for asymptotic solutions of the massless Dirac equation on a Kerr background. We show that, unlike bosonic fields, the connection relation for massless Dirac fields (neutrino) provides a rigorous proof of mode stability. The same relation also implies that every incoming mode can be absorbed by the black hole or there is no superradiance. Recent works on overspinning black holes have shown that this can lead to the formation of naked singularities. We argue that the fact that both the mode stability of the black ho…
The new version of the gedanken experiments proposed by Sorce and Wald are designed to test the validity of the weak cosmic censorship conjecture (WCCC) by overspinning or overcharging the Kerr-Newman black hole in Einstein-Maxwell gravity. Following their setup, in this paper, we investigate the WCCC in the higher-dimensional charged black hole with a nonlinear electrodynamics source. We derive the first and seconder order perturbation inequalities of the charged collision matter based on the Iyer-Wald formalism as well as the null energy conditions, and show that they share the similar form …
It has been argued that, starting with a slightly sub-extremal Kerr black hole instead of an extremal one, it is possible to overspin a black hole past the extremal limit and turn it into a naked singularity by sending test bodies, if one neglects radiative and self-force effects. In this work we show that (i) an extremal Kerr black hole can not be overspun as a result of the interaction with massless integer spin test fields (scalar, electromagnetic, or gravitational), (ii) overspinning can be achieved if we start with a nearly extremal black hole instead, and (iii) for the scalar field, the …
Cataldo has found all rigidly rotating self-gravitating perfect fluid solutions in 2+1 dimensions with a negative cosmological constant $Λ$, for a density that is specified a priori as a function of a certain radial coordinate. We rewrite these solutions in standard polar-radial coordinates, for an arbitrary barotropic equation of state $p(ρ)$. For any given equation of state, we find the two-parameter family of solutions with a regular centre and finite total mass $M$ and angular momentum $J$ (rigidly rotating stars). For analytic equations of state, the solution is analytic except at the sur…
We revisit the mechanism for violating the weak cosmic-censorship conjecture (WCCC) by overspinning a nearly-extreme charged black hole. The mechanism consists of an incoming massless neutral scalar particle, with low energy and large angular momentum, tunneling into the hole. We investigate the effect of the large angular momentum of the incoming particle on the background geometry and address recent claims that such a back-reaction would invalidate the mechanism. We show that the large angular momentum of the incident particle does not constitute an obvious impediment to the success of the o…
We construct thought experiments involving the perturbations of Kerr-Newman black holes by neutral test fields to evaluate the validity of the weak form of the cosmic censorship conjecture. We first show that neglecting backreaction effects, extremal Kerr-Newman black holes which satisfy the condition $(J^2/M^4)<(1/3)$ can be overspun by scalar fields. This result, which could not be discerned in the previous analyses to first order, is prone to be fixed by employing backreaction effects. However the perturbation of Kerr-Newman black holes by neutrino fields leads to a generic overspinning of …
We investigate the consequences of throwing point particles into odd-dimensional Myers-Perry black holes in asymptotically anti-de Sitter (AdS) backgrounds. We restrict our attention to the case in which the angular momenta of the background geometry are all equal. This process allows us to test the generalization of the weak cosmic censorship conjecture to asymptotically AdS spacetimes in higher dimensions. We find no evidence for overspinning in D = 5, 7, 9 and 11 dimensions. Instead, test particles carrying the maximum possible angular momentum that still fall into an extremal rotating blac…
A thought experiment considered recently in the literature, in which it is investigated whether a dyonic Kerr-Newman black hole can be destroyed by overcharging or overspinning it past extremality by a massive complex scalar test field, is revisited. Another derivation of the result that this is not possible, i.e. the weak cosmic censorship is not violated in this thought experiment, is given. The derivation is based on conservation laws, on a null energy condition, and on specific properties of the metric and the electromagnetic field of dyonic Kerr-Newman black holes. The metric is kept fixe…
It has been shown previously that an extremal Reissner-Nordström or an extremal Kerr black hole cannot be overcharged or overspun by a test particle if radiative and self-force effects are neglected. In this paper, we consider extremal charged and rotating black holes with cosmological constants. By studying the motion of test particles, we find the following results: An extremal Reissner-Nordström anti-de Sitter (RN-AdS) black hole can be overcharged by a test particle but an extremal Reissner-Nordström de Sitter (RN-dS) black hole cannot be overcharged. We also show that both extrmal Kerr-de…
Recently, several authors have studied the possibility of overspinning or overcharging an existing black hole to destroy its event horizon and make the central singularity naked. When all the effects are properly taken into account, any attempt to destroy the black hole seems to be doomed to fail, in agreement with the weak cosmic censorship conjecture. In this letter, we study the possibility of destroying the event horizon of regular black holes. These objects have no central singularity and therefore they are not protected by the cosmic censorship hypothesis. Our results strongly support th…
The destruction of the event horizon of a nonsingular black hole, which is not prevented by the weak cosmic censorship conjecture, might provide us the possibility to access quantum regime of gravity inside black hole. We investigate the possibility of overspinning a nonsingular rotating quantum-corrected black hole by a test particle and a scalar field in this paper, and analyse the effect of the quantum parameter on the destruction of the event horizon. For the test particle injection, both extremal and near-extremal black holes cannot be overspun due to the existence of the quantum paramete…
From inherent non-linearity two gravitational waves, unless they are unidirectional, fail to satisfy a superposition law. They collide to develop a new spacetime carrying the imprints of the incoming waves. Same behaviour is valid also for any massless lightlike field. As a result of the violent collision process either a naked singularity or a Cauchy horizon (CH) develops. It was shown by Chandrasekhar and Xanthopoulos (CX) that a particular class of colliding gravitational waves (CGW) spacetime is locally isometric to the Kerr metric for rotating black holes. This relation came to be known a…

The model is constructed, some features of which comes from quantum thin dust shells and is, in fact, an extension of the "no hair" property of classical black hole on a quantum level. It appears that the proposed classical analog of quantum black hole is heated, the temperature being exactly the Hawking's temperature.
We consider black hole in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet(EGB) gravity in a dynamical setup and also the stationary black hole in recently discovered\cite{Glavan} $4$-dimensional novel Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity. For dynamical EGB black hole in completely local settings we calculate the temperature associated with the horizon. For the stationary black hole in $4$-dimensional novel EGB theory we explore the thermodynamic properties including calculation of temperature and entropy.
The stability of the Schwarzschild black hole is studied. Using the Painlevé coordinate, our region can be defined as the black-hole-connected region(r>2m, see text) of the Schwarzschild black hole or the white-hole-connected region(r>2m, see text) of the Schwarzschild black hole. We study the stable problems of the black-hole-connected region. The conclusions are: (1) in the black-hole-connected region, the initially regular perturbation fields must have real frequency or complex frequency whose imaginary must not be greater than -1/4m, so the black-hole-connected regionis stable in physicist…
The shadow of a black hole can be one of the strong observational evidences for stationary black holes. If we see shadows at the center of galaxies, we would say whether the observed compact objects are black holes. In this paper, we consider a formula for the contour of a shadow in an asymptotically-flat, stationary, and axisymmetric black hole spacetime. We show that the formula is useful for obtaining the contour of the shadow of several black holes such as the Kerr-Newman black hole and rotating regular black holes. Using the formula, we can obtain new examples of the contour of the shadow…
We study thermodynamic quantities and examine the stability of a black hole in a cavity inspired by the noncommutative geometry. It turns out that thermodynamic behavior of the noncommutative black hole is analogous to that of the Reissner-Nordström black hole in the near extremal limit. Moreover, we identify the noncommutative parameter with the squared electric charge with some constants.
Singularities are common features of general relativity black holes. However, within general relativity, one can construct black holes that present no singularities. These regular black hole solutions can be achieved by, for instance, relaxing one of the energy conditions on the stress energy tensor sourcing the black hole. Some regular black hole solutions were found in the context of non-linear electrodynamics, the Bardeen black hole being the first one proposed. In this paper, we consider a planar massless scalar wave scattered by a Bardeen black hole. We compare the scattering cross sectio…
In this work, motivated by the fact that higher-dimensional theories predict the existence of black holes which differ from their four-dimensional counterpart, we analyse the geodesics and black hole shadow cast by a general non-extremal five-dimensional black hole. The system under consideration corresponds to the Chong-Cvetič-Lü-Pope (Phys. Rev.Lett.{\bf 95}, 161301 (2005)), which has the Myers--Perry black hole as a limit.
In this paper, we study the BSW process of the slowly evaporating charged black hole. It can be found that the BSW process will also arise near black hole horizon when the evaporation of charged black hole is very slow. But now the background black hole does not have to be an extremal black hole, and it will be approximately an extremal black hole unless it is nearly a huge stationary black hole.
We compute logarithmic corrections to entropy for black holes with hyperbolic horizon. For this purpose, we introduce the topological black hole and MTZ black holes in four dimensions, while in five dimensions, the topological black holes and Gauss-Bonnet black hole with negative coupling are considered. As they stand, logarithmic corrections are problematic because small black holes with positive heat capacity have negative energies. However, introducing the background state of extremal black hole, the logarithmic corrections are performed for black hole with hyperbolic horizon.
We study thermodynamics of the Schwarzschild-de Sitter black hole in five dimensions by introducing two temperatures based on the standard and Bousso-Hawking normalizations. We use the first-law of thermodynamics to derive thermodynamic quantities. The two temperatures indicate that the Nariai black hole is thermodynamically unstable. However, it seems that black hole thermodynamics favors the standard normalization, and does not favor the Bousso-Hawking normalization.
By using an analytic solution of the Teukolsky equation in the Kerr-de Sitter and Kerr-Newman-de Sitter geometries, an analytic expression of the absorption rate formulae for these black holes is calculated.
The classical first law of thermodynamic for Kerr-Newmann black hole (KNBH) is generalized to that in quantum form on event horizon. Then four quantum conservation laws on the KNBH equilibrium radiation process are derived, and Bekenstein-Hawking's relation S=A/4 is recovered. It can be argued that the classical entropy of black hole arise from the quantum entropy of field quanta or quasi-particles inside the hole.
By throwing a test charged particle into a Reissner-Nordstrom (RN) black hole, we test the validity of the first and second laws of thermodynamics and weak cosmic censorship conjecture (WCCC) with two types of boundary conditions, i.e., the asymptotically anti-de Sitter (AdS) space and a Dirichlet cavity wall placed in the asymptotically at space. For the RN-AdS black hole, the second law of thermodynamics is satisfied, and the WCCC is violated for both extremal and nearextremal black holes. For the RN black hole in a cavity, the entropy can either increase or decrease depending on the change …
This paper describes that the superconducting cosmic strings can be connected to an electrically charged black hole, and can be considerd as the hair of black hole. What the no-hair theorems show is that a large amount of information is lost when a body collapses to form a black hole. In addition, the no-hair theorem has not been proved for the Yang-Mills field. This paper proves and claims that the superconducting cosmic strings can be connected to an electrically charged hole when the current inside these strings and black holes approaches the critical value. Because, this state is the final…
The superradiant stability of higher dimensional non-extremal Reissner-Nordstrom black hole under charged massive scalar perturbation is analytically studied. We extend our previous studies of four- and five-dimensional non-extremal Reissner-Nordstrom black hole cases to six-dimensional case. By analyzing the derivative of the effective potential with an analytical method, we find that no potential well exists outside the outer horizon of the black hole for the superradiant scalar modes. This means that there is no black hole bomb for the system consisting of six-dimensional Reissner-Nordstrom…
In Randall-Sundrum single-brane (RS-II) model, it was conjectured that there is no static large black hole localized on the brane based on adS/CFT correspondence. Here we consider the phase diagram of black objects in the models extended from the RS-II model. We propose a scenario for the phase diagram consistent with the classical black hole evaporation conjecture. The proposed scenario indicates the existence of a rich variety of the families of black objects.
We consider a quantum field which is in a Hartle-Hawking state propagating in a spherically symmetric black hole space-time. We calculate the components of the stress tensor, renormalized using the Hadamard form of the Green's function, in the exterior region of this space-time. We then specialize these results to the case of the `lukewarm' Riessner-Nordstrom-de Sitter black hole.
We study thermodynamic quantities of an acoustic black hole and its thermodynamic stability in a cavity based on the generalized uncertainty principle. It can be shown that there is a minimal black hole which can be a stable remnant after black hole evaporation. Moreover, the behavior of the free energy shows that the large black hole is stable too. Therefore, the acoustic black hole can decay into the remnant or the large black hole.
We introduce three approaches to generate curvature invariants that transform covariantly under a conformal transformation of a four dimensional spacetime. For any black hole conformally related to a stationary black hole, we show how a set of conformally covariant invariants can be combined to produce a conformally covariant invariant that detects the event horizon of the conformally related black hole. As an application we consider the rotating dynamical black holes conformally related to the Kerr-NUT-(Anti)-de Sitter spacetimes and construct an invariant that detects the conformal Killing h…
The Event Horizon Telescope, a global submillimeter wavelength very long baseline interferometry array, produced the first image of supermassive black hole M87* showing a ring of diameter $θ_d= 42\pm 3\,μ$as, inferred a black hole mass of $M=(6.5 \pm 0.7) \times 10^9 M_\odot $ and allowed us to investigate the nature of strong-field gravity. The observed image is consistent with the shadow of a Kerr black hole, which according to the Kerr hypothesis describes the background spacetimes of all astrophysical black holes. The hypothesis, a strong-field prediction of general relativity, may be viol…
