Inspired by the works in [1] and [8] we introduce what we call $k$-th-order fluctuation fields and study their scaling limits. This construction is done in the context of particle systems with the property of orthogonal self-duality. This type of duality provides us with a setting in which we are able to interpret these fields as some type of discrete analogue of powers of the well-known density fluctuation field. We show that the weak limit of the $k$-th order field satisfies a recursive martingale problem that formally corresponds to the SPDE associated with the $k$th-power of a generalized Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process.
We obtain orthogonal polynomial self-duality functions for multi-species version of the symmetric exclusion process (SEP$(2j)$) and the independent random walker process (IRW) on a finite undirected graph. In each process, we have $n>1$ species of particles. In addition, we allow up to $2j$ particles to occupy each site in the multi-species SEP$(2j)$. The duality functions for the multi-species SEP$(2j)$ and the multi-species IRW come from unitary intertwiners between different $*$-representations of the special linear Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sl}_{n+1}$ and the Heisenberg Lie algebra $\mathfrak…
We study fluctuation fields of orthogonal polynomials in the context of particle systems with duality. We thereby obtain a systematic orthogonal decomposition of the fluctuation fields of local functions, where the order of every term can be quantified. This implies a quantitative generalization of the Boltzmann Gibbs principle. In the context of independent random walkers, we complete this program, including also fluctuation fields in non-stationary context (local equilibrium). For other interacting particle systems with duality such as the symmetric exclusion process, similar results can be …
We prove a certain duality relation for orthogonal polynomials defined on a finite set. The result is used in a direct proof of the equivalence of two different ways of computing the correlation functions of a discrete orthogonal polynomial ensemble.
We obtain stochastic duality functions for specific Markov processes using representation theory of Lie algebras. The duality functions come from the kernel of a unitary intertwiner between $*$-representations, which provides (generalized) orthogonality relations for the duality functions. In particular, we consider representations of the Heisenberg algebra and $\mathfrak{su}(1,1)$. Both cases lead to orthogonal (self-)duality functions in terms of hypergeometric functions for specific interacting particle processes and interacting diffusion processes.
Orthogonal polynomial duality and unitary symmetries of multi--species ASEP$(q,\boldsymbolθ)$ and higher--spin vertex models via $^*$--bialgebra structure of higher rank quantum groups
We study a class of interacting particle systems with asymmetric interaction showing a self-duality property. The class includes the ASEP($q,θ$), asymmetric exclusion process, with a repulsive interaction, allowing up to $θ\in \mathbb{N}$ particles in each site, and the ASIP$(q,θ)$, $θ\in \mathbb{R}^+$, asymmetric inclusion process, that is its attractive counterpart. We extend to the asymmetric setting the investigation of orthogonal duality properties done in [8] for symmetric processes. The analysis leads to multivariate $q-$analogues of Krawtchouk polynomials and Meixner polynomials as ort…
For a series of Markov processes we prove stochastic duality relations with duality functions given by orthogonal polynomials. This means that expectations with respect to the original process (which evolves the variable of the orthogonal polynomial) can be studied via expectations with respect to the dual process (which evolves the index of the polynomial). The set of processes include interacting particle systems, such as the exclusion process, the inclusion process and independent random walkers, as well as interacting diffusions and redistribution models of Kipnis-Marchioro-Presutti type. …
In this paper we establish a connection between the fluctuations of Wishart random matrices, shifted Chebyshev polynomials, and planar diagrams whose linear span form a basis for the irreducible representations of the annular Temperly-Lieb algebra.
In this paper we derive intertwining relations for a broad class of conservative particle systems both in discrete and continuous setting. Using the language of point process theory, we are able to derive a natural framework in which duality and intertwining can be formulated. We prove falling factorial and orthogonal polynomial intertwining relations in a general setting. These intertwinings unite the previously found classical and orthogonal self-dualities in the context of discrete particle systems and provide new dualities for several interacting systems in the continuum. We also introduce…
We study self-duality for interacting particle systems, where the particles move as continuous time random walkers having either exclusion interaction or inclusion interaction. We show that orthogonal self-dualities arise from unitary symmetries of the Markov generator. For these symmetries we provide two equivalent expressions that are related by the Baker-Campbell-Hausdorff formula. The first expression is the exponential of an anti Hermitian operator and thus is unitary by inspection; the second expression is factorized into three terms and is proved to be unitary by using generating functi…
We present an asymptotic expansion for quaternionic self-adjoint matrix integrals. The Feynman diagrams appearing in the expansion are ordinary ribbon graphs and their non-orientable counterparts. The result exhibits a striking duality between quaternionic self-adjoint and real symmetric matrix integrals. The asymptotic expansions of these integrals are given in terms of summations over topologies of compact surfaces, both orientable and non-orientable, for all genera and an arbitrary positive number of marked points on them. We show that the Gaussian Orthogonal Ensemble (GOE) and Gaussian Sym…
We prove that the fluctuations of mesocopic linear statistics for orthogonal polynomial ensembles are universal in the sense that two measures with asymptotic recurrence coefficients have the same asymptotic mesoscopic fluctuations (under an additional assumption on the local regularity of one of the measures). The convergence rate of the recurrence coefficients determines the range of scales on which the limiting fluctuations are identical. Our main tool is an analysis of the Green's function for the associated Jacobi matrices. As a particular consequence we obtain a Central Limit Theorem for…
We establish a convergent power series expansion for the expectation of a product of traces of powers of a random unitary matrix under the heat kernel measure. These expectations turn out to be the generating series of certain paths in the Cayley graph of the symmetric group. We then compute the asymptotic distribution of a random unitary matrix under the heat kernel measure on the unitary group U(N) as N tends to infinity, and prove a result of asymptotic freeness result for independent large unitary matrices, thus recovering results obtained previously by Xu and Biane. We give an interpretat…
We study the fluctuations of linear statistics with polynomial test functions for Multiple Orthogonal Polynomial Ensembles. Multiple Orthogonal Polynomial Ensembles form an important class of determinantal point processes that include random matrix models such as the GUE with external source, complex Wishart matrices, multi-matrix models and others. Our analysis is based on the recurrence matrix for the multiple orthogonal polynomials, that is constructed out of the nearest neighbor recurrences. If the coefficients for the nearest neighbor recurrences have limits, then we show that the right-l…
This paper aims to clarify certain aspects of the relations between birth-death processes, measures solving a Stieltjes moment problem, and sets of parameters defining polynomial sequences that are orthogonal with respect to such a measure. Besides giving an overview of the basic features of these relations, revealed to a large extent by Karlin and McGregor, we investigate a duality concept for birth-death processes introduced by Karlin and McGregor and its interpretation in the context of shell polynomials and the corresponding orthogonal polynomials. This interpretation leads to increased in…
We study moments of characteristic polynomials of truncated Haar distributed matrices from the three classical compact groups O(N), U(N) and Sp(2N). For finite matrix size we calculate the moments in terms of hypergeometric functions of matrix argument and give explicit integral representations highlighting the duality between the moment and the matrix size as well as the duality between the orthogonal and symplectic cases. Asymptotic expansions in strong and weak non-unitarity regimes are obtained. Using the connection to matrix hypergeometric functions, we establish limit theorems for the lo…
In this note we study the number of real roots of a wide class of random orthogonal polynomials with gaussian coefficients. Using the method of Wiener Chaos we show that the fluctuation in the bulk is asymptotically gaussian, even when the local correlations are not necessarily the same.
