This paper studies geometric structures on noncommutative hypersurfaces within a module-theoretic approach to noncommutative Riemannian (spin) geometry. A construction to induce differential, Riemannian and spinorial structures from a noncommutative embedding space to a noncommutative hypersurface is developed and applied to obtain noncommutative hypersurface Dirac operators. The general construction is illustrated by studying the sequence $\mathbb{T}^{2}_θ \hookrightarrow \mathbb{S}^{3}_θ \hookrightarrow \mathbb{R}^{4}_θ$ of noncommutative hypersurface embeddings.
We study spectral triples over noncommutative principal U(1) bundles. Basing on the classical situation and the abstract algebraic approach, we propose an operatorial definition for a connection and compatibility between the connection and the Dirac operator on the total space and on the base space of the bundle. We analyze in details the example of the noncommutative three-torus viewed as a U(1) bundle over the noncommutative two-torus and find all connections compatible with an admissible Dirac operator. Conversely, we find a family of new Dirac operators on the noncommutative tori, which ar…
A version of Kontsevich Formality theorem is proven for smooth DG algebras. As an application of this, it is proven that any quasiclassical datum of noncommutative unfolding of an isolated surface singularity can be quantized.
We find and classify possible equivariant spin structures with Dirac operators on the noncommutative torus, proving that similarly as in the classical case the spectrum of the Dirac operator depends on the spin structure.
We study spectral triples over noncommutative principal U(1)-bundles of arbitrary dimension and formulate a compatibility condition between the connection and the Dirac operator on the total space and on the base space of the bundle. Examples of low dimensional noncommutative tori are analyzed in more detail and all connections found that are compatible with an admissible Dirac operator. Conversely, a family of new Dirac operators on the noncommutative tori, which arise from the base-space Dirac operator and a suitable connection is exhibited. These examples are extended to the theta-deformed …
Spectral triples over noncommutative principal $\T^n$-bundles are studied, extending recent results about the noncommutative geometry of principal U(1)-bundles. We relate the noncommutative geometry of the total space of the bundle with the geometry of the base space. Moreover, strong connections are used to build new Dirac operators. We discuss as a particular case the commutative case, the noncommutative tori and theta deformed manifolds.
The spectral eta function for certain families of Dirac operators on noncommutative $3$-torus is considered and the regularity at zero is proved. By using variational techniques, we show that $η_{D}(0)$ is a conformal invariant. By studying the Laurent expansion at zero of $\text{TR} (|D|^{-z})$, the conformal invariance of $ζ'_{|D|}(0)$ for noncommutative $3$-torus is proved. Finally, for the coupled Dirac operator, a local formula for the variation $\partial_Aη_{D+A}(0)$ is derived which is the analogue of the so called induced Chern-Simons term in quantum field theory literature.
We consider finite-dimensional Hopf algebras $u$ which admit a smooth deformation $U\to u$ by a Noetherian Hopf algebra $U$ of finite global dimension. Examples of such Hopf algebras include small quantum groups over the complex numbers, restricted enveloping algebras in finite characteristic, and Drinfeld doubles of height $1$ group schemes. We provide a means of analyzing (cohomological) support for representations over such $u$, via the singularity categories of the hypersurfaces $U/(f)$ associated to functions $f$ on the corresponding parametrization space. We use this hypersurface approac…
We introduce a family of spectral triples that describe the curved noncommutative two-torus. The relevant family of new Dirac operators is given by rescaling one of two terms in the flat Dirac operator. We compute the dressed scalar curvature and show that the Gauss-Bonnet theorem holds (which is not covered by the general result of Connes and Moscovici).
We present an analytic proof of the existence of phase transition in the large $N$ limit of certain random noncommutaitve geometries. These geometries can be expressed as ensembles of Dirac operators. When they reduce to single matrix ensembles, one can apply the Coulomb gas method to find the empirical spectral distribution. We elaborate on the nature of the large $N$ spectral distribution of the Dirac operator itself. Furthermore, we show that these models exhibit both a single and double cut region for certain values of the order parameter and find the exact value where the transition occur…
We find a unique torsion free Riemannian spin connection for the natural Killing metric on the quantum group $C_q[SL_2]$, using a recent frame bundle formulation. We find that its covariant Ricci curvature is essentially proportional to the metric (i.e. an Einstein space). We compute the Dirac operator and find for $q$ an odd $r$'th root of unity that its eigenvalues are given by $q$-integers $[m]_q$ for $m=0,1,...,r-1$ offset by the constant background curvature. We fully solve the Dirac equation for $r=3$.
Given the algebra, Hilbert space H, grading and real structure of the finite spectral triple of the Standard Model, we classify all possible Dirac operators such that H is a self-Morita equivalence bimodule for the associated Clifford algebra.
Gauge fields have a natural metric interpretation in terms of horizontal distance. The latest, also called Carnot-Caratheodory or subriemannian distance, is by definition the length of the shortest horizontal path between points, that is to say the shortest path whose tangent vector is everywhere horizontal with respect to the gauge connection. In noncommutative geometry all the metric information is encoded within the Dirac operator D. In the classical case, i.e. commutative, Connes's distance formula allows to extract from D the geodesic distance on a riemannian spin manifold. In the case of…
In our previous publications we introduced differential calculus on the enveloping algebras U(gl(m)) similar to the usual calculus on the commutative algebra Sym(gl(m)). The main ingredient of our calculus are quantum partial derivatives which turn into the usual partial derivatives in the classical limit. In the particular case m=2 we prolonged this calculus on a central extension A of the algebra U(gl(2)). In the present paper we consider the problem of a further extension of the quantum partial derivatives on the skew-field of the algebra A and define the corresponding de Rham complex. As a…
We define and study analogues of exponentials for functions on noncommutative two-tori that depend on a choice of a complex structure. The major difference with the commutative case is that our noncommutative exponentials can be defined only for sufficiently small functions. We show that this phenomenon is related to the existence of certain discriminant hypersurfaces in an irrational rotation algebra. As an application of our methods we give a very explicit characterization of connected components in the group of invertible elements of this algebra.
We consider the Dirac operator of a general metric in the canonical conformal class on the noncommutative two torus, twisted by an idempotent (representing the $K$-theory class of a general noncommutative vector bundle), and derive a local formula for the Fredholm index of the twisted Dirac operator. Our approach is based on the McKean-Singer index formula, and explicit heat expansion calculations by making use of Connes' pseudodifferential calculus. As a technical tool, a new rearrangement lemma is proved to handle challenges posed by the noncommutativity of the algebra and the presence of an…
We give a survey of selected topics in noncommutative geometry, with some emphasis on those directly related to physics, including our recent work with Dirk Kreimer on renormalization and the Riemann-Hilbert problem. We discuss at length two issues. The first is the relevance of the paradigm of geometric space, based on spectral considerations, which is central in the theory. As a simple illustration of the spectral formulation of geometry in the ordinary commutative case, we give a polynomial equation for geometries on the four dimensional sphere with fixed volume. The equation involves an id…
We prove that the Shimizu L-function of a real quadratic field is obtained from a (Lorentzian) spectral triple on a noncommutative torus with real multiplication, as an adiabatic limit of the Dirac operator on a 3-dimensional solvmanifold. The Dirac operator on this 3-dimensional geometry gives, via the Connes-Landi isospectral deformations, a spectral triple for the noncommutative tori obtained by deforming the fiber tori to noncommutative spaces. The 3-dimensional solvmanifold is the homotopy quotient in the sense of Baum--Connes of the noncommutative space obtained as the crossed product of…
A Dirac operator is presented that will yield a 1+ summable regular even spectral triple for all noncommutative compact surfaces defined as subalgebras of the Toeplitz algebra. Connes' conditions for noncommutative spin geometries are analyzed and it is argued that the failure of some requirements is mainly due to a wrong choice of a noncommutative spin bundle.
We study the noncommutative Riemannian geometry of the alternating group $A_4=(Z_2 \times Z_2)\cross Z_3$ using a recent formulation for finite groups. We find a unique `Levi-Civita' connection for the invariant metric, and find that it has Ricci-flat but nonzero Riemann curvature. We show that it is the unique Ricci-flat connection on $A_4$ with the standard framing (we solve the vacuum Einstein's equation). We also propose a natural Dirac operator for the associated spin connection and solve the Dirac equation. Some of our results hold for any finite group equipped with a cyclic conjugacy cl…
Building on the theory of noncommutative complex structures, the notion of a noncommutative Kähler structure is introduced. In the quantum homogeneous space case many of the fundamental results of classical Kähler geometry are shown to follow from the existence of such a structure, allowing for the definition of noncommutative Lefschetz, Hodge, Kähler-Dirac, and Laplace operators. Quantum projective space, endowed with its Heckenberger-Kolb calculus, is taken as the motivating example. The general theory is then used to show that the calculus has cohomology groups of at least classical dimensi…
