Recently, there has been a surge of interest in the 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (4D EGB) gravity theory which bypasses the Lovelock theorem and avoids Ostrogradsky's instability. Such a novel theory has nontrivial dynamics and presents several predictions for cosmology and black hole physics. Motivated by recent astrophysical observations and the importance of anti-de Sitter spacetime, we investigate shadow geometrical shapes and deflection angle of light from the charged AdS black holes in 4D EGB gravity theory. We explore the shadow behaviors and photon sphere around such black holes, and inspect the effect of different parameters on them. Then, we present a study regarding the energy emission rate of such black holes and analyze the significant role of the Gauss-Bonnet (GB) coupling constant in the radiation process. Then, we perform a discussion of holographic heat engines of charged 4D EGB-AdS black holes by obtaining the efficiency of a rectangular engine cycle. Finally, by comparing heat engine efficiency with the Carnot efficiency, we indicate that the ratio $\frac{η}{η_{c}}$ is always less than one which is consistent with the thermodynamic second law.
In this paper, we study the weak gravitational lensing in the spacetime of rotating regular black hole geometries such as Ayon-Beato-García (ABG), Bardeen, and Hayward black holes. We calculate the deflection angle of light using the Gauss-Bonnet theorem (GBT) and show that the deflection of light can be viewed as a partially topological effect in which the deflection angle can be calculated by considering a domain outside of the light ray applied to the black hole optical geometries. Then, we demonstrate also the deflection angle via the geodesics formalism for these black holes to verify our…
We investigate the shadows and photon spheres of the four-dimensional Gauss-Bonnet black hole with the static and infalling spherical accretions. We show that for both cases, the shadow and photon sphere are always present. The radii of the shadow and photon sphere are independent of the profiles of accretion for a fixed Gauss-Bonnet constant, implying that the shadow is a signature of the spacetime geometry and it is hardly influenced by accretion in this case. Because of the Doppler effect, the shadow of the infalling accretion is found to be darker than that of the static one. We also inves…
We consider spherically symmetric and static charged black holes in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet-Maxwell gravities in general $D\ge 5$ dimensions and study their photon spheres and black hole shadows. We show that they all satisfy the sequence of inequalities recently proposed relating a black hole's horizon, photon sphere, shadow and its mass.
In this paper, we investigate the photon sphere, shadow radius and quasinormal modes of a four-dimensional charged Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet black hole. The perturbation of a massless scalar field in the black hole's background is adopted. The quasinormal modes are gotten by the $6th$ order WKB approximation approach and shadow radius, respectively. When the value of the Gauss-Bonnet coupling constant increase, the values of the real parts of the quasinormal modes increase and those of the imaginary parts decrease. The coincidence degrees of quasinormal modes derived by the two approaches increase…
In this paper, we investigate the effect of higher curvature corrections from Gauss-Bonnet gravity on the shadow of charged black holes in both $AdS$ and Minkowski spacetimes. The null geodesic equations are computed in $d=5$ spacetime dimensions by using the directions of symmetries and Hamilton-Jacobi equation. With the null geodesics in hand, we then proceed to evaluate the celestial coordinates ($α, β$) and the radius $R_s$ of the black hole shadow and represent it graphically. The effects of charge $Q$ of the black hole and the Gauss-Bonnet parameter $γ$ on the radius of the shadow $R_s$ …
This work is devoted to the exploration of shadow cast and center of mass energy in the background of a 4-dimensional charged Gauss-Bonnet AdS black hole. On investigating particle dynamics, we have examined BH's metric function. Whereas, with the help of null geodesics, we pursue to calculate the celestial coordinates and the shadow radius of the black hole. We have made use of the hawking temperature to study the energy emission rate. Moreover, we have explored the center of mass energy and discussed its characteristics under the influence of spacetime parameters. For a better understanding,…
In this paper, we use a new asymptotically flat and spherically symmetric solution in the generalized Einstein-Cartan-Kibble-Sciama (ECKS) theory of gravity to study the weak gravitational lensing and its shadow cast. To this end, we first compute the weak deflection angle of generalized ECKS black hole using the Gauss-Bonnet theorem in plasma medium and in vacuum. Next by using the Newman-Janis algorithm without complexification, we derive the rotating generalized ECKS black hole and in the sequel study its shadow. Then, we discuss the effects of the ECKS parameter on the weak deflection angl…
Motivated by M-theory/superstring inspired models, we investigate certain behaviors of the deflection angle and the shadow geometrical shapes of higher dimensional quintessential black holes associated with two values of the dark energy (DE) state parameter, being ω=-\frac{1}{3} and ω=-\frac{2}{3}. Concretely, we derive the geodesic equation of photons on such backgrounds. Thanks to the Gauss-Bonnet theorem corresponding to the optical metric, we compute the leading terms of the deflection angle in the so-called weak-limit approximation. After that, we inspect the effect of DE and the space-ti…
The existence of quintessential dark energy around a black hole has considerable consequences on its spacetime geometry. Hence, in this article, we explore its effect on horizons and the silhouette generated by a Kerr-Newman black hole in quintessential dark energy. Moreover, to analyze the deflection angle of light, we utilize the Gauss-Bonnet theorem. The obtained result demonstrates that, due to the dragging effect, the black hole spin elongates its shadow in the direction of the rotational axis, while increases the deflection angle. On the other hand, the black hole charge diminishing its …
Recently, numerical solutions to the field equations of Einstein-scalar-Gauss-Bonnet gravity that correspond to black-holes with non-trivial scalar hair have been reported. Here, we employ the method of the continued-fraction expansion in terms of a compact coordinate in order to obtain an analytical approximation for the aforementioned solutions. For a wide variety of coupling functionals to the Gauss-Bonnet term we were able to obtain analytical expressions for the metric functions and the scalar field. In addition we estimated the accuracy of these approximations by calculating the black-ho…
We provide a discussion on a light ray in a charged black hole solution in massive gravity. To serve the purpose, we exploit the optical geometry of the black hole solution and find the Gaussian curvature in weak gravitational lensing. Furthermore, we discuss the deflection angle of the light ray in both plasma and non-plasma mediums using the Gauss-Bonnet theorem on the black hole. We also analyze the Regge--Wheeler equation and derive rigorous bounds on the greybody factors of linearly charged massive BTZ black hole. We also study the shadow or silhouette generated by charged massive BTZ bla…
In this geometrical approach to gravitational lensing theory, we apply the Gauss-Bonnet theorem to the optical metric of a lens, modelled as a static, spherically symmetric, perfect non-relativistic fluid, in the weak deflection limit. We find that the focusing of the light rays emerges here as a topological effect, and we introduce a new method to calculate the deflection angle from the Gaussian curvature of the optical metric. As examples, the Schwarzschild lens, the Plummer sphere and the singular isothermal sphere are discussed within this framework.
We study the bending of light in the space-time of black holes in four-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory of gravity, recently proposed by Glavan and Lin \cite{Glavan}. Using Rindler-Ishak method, the effect of Gauss-Bonnet coupling on the bending angle is studied. We show that a positive Gauss-Bonnet coupling gives a negative contribution to the Schwarzschild-de Sitter deflection angle, as one would expect.
In this paper, we have discussed the effects of quantum fluctuations spewed by a black hole on its deflection angle. The Gauss-Bonnet theorem (GBT) is exploited with quantum corrections through the Extended Uncertainty Principle (EUP) and the corresponding deflection angle is obtained. Moreover, we have attempted to broaden the scope of our work by subsuming the effects of plasma medium on the deflection angle as well. To demonstrate the degree of difference, the acquired results are compared with the prevailing findings.
Recently a $D$-dimensional regularization approach leading to the non-trivial $(3+1)$-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) effective description of gravity was formulated which was claimed to bypass the Lovelock's theorem and avoid Ostrogradsky instability. Later it was shown that the regularization is possible only for some broad, but limited, class of metrics and Aoki, Gorji and Mukohyama [arXiv:2005.03859] formulated a well-defined four-dimensional EGB theory, which breaks the Lorentz invariance in a theoretically consistent and observationally viable way. The black-hole solution of the …
In this paper, we consider black holes in the consistent Aoki-Gorji-Mukohyama theory of the four-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (4D EGB) gravity in the presence of Born-Infeld (BI) nonlinear electrodynamics. We study several optical features of these black holes such as the shadow radius, energy emission rate and deflection angle, and analyse the effect of the coupling constants, the electric charge and cosmological constant on the considered optical quantities. Furthermore, we also employ the connection between the shadow radius and quasinormal modes (QNMs) and investigate small scalar per…
We study the light rays in a static and spherically symmetric gravitational field of null aether theory (NAT). To this end, we employ the Gauss-Bonnet theorem to compute the deflection angle by a NAT black hole in the weak limit approximation. Using the optical metrics of the NAT black hole, we first obtain the Gaussian curvature and then calculate the leading terms of the deflection angle. Our calculations show how gravitational lensing is affected by the NAT field. We also show once again that the bending of light stems from a global and topological effect.
Using the Gauss-Bonnet theorem, we compute and examine the deflection angle of light rays by rotating regular black holes with a cosmological constant. By the help of optical geometries, we first deal with the Hayward black holes with cosmological contributions. Then, we reconsider the study of the Bardeen solutions. We inspect the cosmological constant effect on the deflection angle of light rays. Concretely, we find extra cosmological correction terms generalizing certain obtained findings. Using graphical analysis, we provide a comparative discussion with respect to the Kerr solutions. The …
In this paper, we derive an exact black hole spacetime metric in the Einstein-Hilbert-Bumblebee (EHB) gravity around global monopole field. We study the horizon, temperature, and the photon sphere of the black hole. Using the null geodesics equation, we obtain the shadow cast by the Schwarzschild-like black hole with a topological defect in bumblebee gravity. Interestingly, the radius of shadow of the black hole increases with increase in the global monopole parameter. We also visualize the shadows and energy emission rates for different values of parameters. Moreover, using the Gauss-Bonnet t…
Motivated by recent works on light deflection and shadow behaviors on AdS geometries, we investigate the deflection angle of light rays by superentropic black holes. Taking appropriate approximations, we first obtain the involved expression. For large values of the impact parameter, we get a specific value being zero for ordinary black holes without AdS backgrounds. Then, we examine and analyze such an optical quantity by providing graphical discussions in terms of a bounded region of the moduli space required by superentropic black hole conditions. Concretely, we study the deflection angle as…
Asymptotically locally flat and AdS higher-dimensional black holes of Einstein-Horndeski-Maxwell gravity in the light of EHT observations: shadow behavior and deflection angle
In this paper, we are interested in a model of exact asymptotically flat charged hairy black holes in the background of dilaton potential. We study the weak gravitational lensing in the spacetime of hairy black hole in Einstein-Maxwell theory with a non-minimally coupled dilaton and its non-trivial potential. In doing so, we use the optical geometry of the flat charged hairy black hole for some range of parameter $γ$. For this purpose, by using Gauss-Bonnet theorem, we obtain the deflection angle of photon in a spherically symmetric and asymptotically flat spacetime. Moreover, we also investig…
Camanho, Edelstein, Maldacena and Zhiboedov have shown that gravitons can experience a negative Shapiro time delay, i.e. a time advance, in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory. They studied gravitons propagating in singular "shock-wave" geometries. We study this effect for gravitons propagating in smooth black hole spacetimes. For a small enough black hole, we find that gravitons of appropriate polarisation, and small impact parameter, can experience time advance. Such gravitons can also exhibit a deflection angle less than $π$, characteristic of a repulsive short-distance gravitational interaction. …
Recently, Kumar and Ghosh have derived Kerr-like rotating black hole solutions in the framework of four-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory of gravity and investigated the black hole shadow. Using the steady-state Novikov-Thorne model, we study thin accretion disk processes for such rotating black holes including the energy flux, temperature distribution, emission spectrum, energy conversion efficiency as well as the radius of the innermost stable circular orbit. We also study the effects of the Gauss-Bonnet coupling parameter $α$ on these quantities. The results are compared to slowly ro…
The eclipse of the Sun of 1919 was fundamental in the development of physics and earns a high place in the history of science. Several players took part in this adventure. The most important are Einstein, Dyson, Eddington, the Sun, the Moon, Sobral, and Principe. Einstein's theory of gravitation, general relativity, had the prediction that the gravitational field of the Sun deflects an incoming light ray from a background star on its way to Earth. The calculation gave that the shift in the star's position was 1.75 arcseconds for light rays passing at the Sun's rim. So to test it definitely it …
We use observational data from the S2 star orbiting around the Galactic Center to constrain a black hole solution of extended teleparallel gravity models. Subsequently, we construct the shadow images of Sgr A$^{\star}$ black hole. In particular, we constrain the parameter $α=1/λ$ which appears in the Born-Infeld $f(T)$ model. In the strong gravity regime we find that the shadow radius increases with the increase of the parameter $α$. Specifically, from the S2 star observations, we find within 1$σ$ that the parameter must lie between $0 \leq α/M^2 \leq 6 \times 10^{-4}$. Consequently, we used t…
Symmergent gravity is the $R+R^2$ gravity theory which emerges in a way restoring gauge symmetries broken explicitly by the ultraviolet cutoff in effective field theories. To test symmergent gravity we construct novel black hole solutions in four dimensions, and study their shadow in the vacuum as well as plasma medium. Our detailed analyses show that the horizon radius, Hawking temperature, Bekenstein-Hawking entropy, shadow angular radius, and photon deflection angle are sensitive probes of the symmergent gravity and particle spectrum of the underlying quantum field theory.
We investigate the behavior of the deflection of light rays by charged and rotating AdS black holes using the Gauss-Bonnet formalism. Taking weak field approximations and certain appropriate limits associated with AdS geometries, we compute and analyze such an optical quantity by varying the involved moduli space parameters. First, we study the charge and the AdS radius effects on the deflection angle of RN-AdS black holes. For small values of the impact parameter $b$, we find that the charge effect is relevant. Precisely, it decreases the deflection angle, while the AdS background one is not.…
