We propose a conjecture that the monodromy group of a singular hyperbolic metric on a non-hyperbolic Riemann surface is {\it Zariski dense} in ${\rm PSL}(2,\,{\Bbb R})$. By using meromorphic differentials and affine connections, we obtain an evidence of the conjecture that the monodromy group of the singular hyperbolic metric can not be contained in four classes of one-dimensional Lie subgroups of ${\rm PSL}(2,\,{\Bbb R})$. Moreover, we confirm the conjecture if the Riemann surface is either one of the once punctured Riemann sphere, the twice punctured Riemann sphere, a once punctured torus and a compact Riemann surface.
We study the possible singularities of an $m$-subharmonic function $φ$ along a complex submanifold $V$ of a compact Kähler manifold, finding a maximal rate of growth for $φ$ which depends only on $m$ and $k$, the codimension of $V$. When $k < m$, we show that $φ$ has at worst log poles along $V$, and that the strength of these poles is moveover constant along $V$. This can be thought of as an analogue of Siu's theorem.
We study the problem of removable singularities for degenerate elliptic equations. Let F be a fully nonlinear second-order partial differential subequation of degenerate elliptic type on a manifold X. We study the question: Which closed subsets E in X have the property that every F-subharmonic function (subsolution) on X-E, which is locally bounded across E, extends to an F-subharmonic function on X. We also study the related question for F-harmonic functions (solutions) which are continuous across E. Main results assert that if there exists a convex cone subequation M such that F+M is contain…
This paper introduces pedal curves of spacelike frontals in the hyperbolic 2-space. We mainly investigate the singularities of these hyperbolic pedal curves of spacelike frontals for non-singular and singular dual curve germs. We then show that for non-singular dual curve germs, the singularities of a pedal curve are dependent on the singularities of the first hyperbolic Legendrian curvature germ and the location of the pedal point, while for singular dual curve germs, they depend upon the singularities of both hyperbolic Legendrian curvature germs and also the location of the pedal point. We …
We prove that the isoperimetric inequalities in the euclidean and hyperbolic plane hold for all euclidean, respectively hyperbolic, cone-metrics on a disk with singularities of negative curvature. This is a discrete analog of the theorems of Weil and Bol that deal with Riemannian metrics of curvature bounded from above by 0, respectively by -1. A stronger discrete version was proved by A.D.Alexandrov, with a subsequent extension by approximation to metrics of bounded integral curvature. Our proof uses "discrete conformal deformations" of the metric that eliminate the singularities and increase…
We construct examples of flat surfaces in $\mathbb{H}^3$ which are graphs over a two-punctured horosphere and classify complete embedded flat surfaces in $\mathbb{H}^3$ with only one end and at most two isolated singularities.
In this paper, we study the singular sets of $F$-subharmonic functions $u: B_{2}(0^{n})\rightarrow\mathbf{R}$, where $F$ is a subequation. The singular set $\mathcal{S}(u)\subset B_{2}(0^{n})$ has a stratification $\mathcal{S}^{0}(u)\subset\mathcal{S}^{1}(u)\subset\cdots\subset\mathcal{S}^{k}(u)\subset\cdots\subset\mathcal{S}(u)$, where $x\in\mathcal{S}^{k}(u)$ if no tangent function to $u$ at $x$ is $(k+1)$-homogeneous. We define the quantitative stratification $\mathcal{S}_{η,r}^{k}(u)$ and $\mathcal{S}_η^{k}(u)=\cap_{r}\mathcal{S}_{η,r}^{k}(u)$. When homogeneity of tangents holds for $F$, w…
CMC-1 trinoids (i.e. constant mean curvature one immersed surface with three regular embedded ends) in hyperbolic 3-space H^3 are irreducible generically, and the irreducible ones have been classified. However, the reducible case has not yet been fully treated, so in this paper we give an explicit description of CMC-1 trinoids in H^3 that includes the reducible case.
This is the second in a series of papers where we estab- lish skin structural concepts and results for singular area minimizing hypersurfaces. Here we conformally unfold these spaces to complete Gromov hyperbolic spaces with bounded geometry and we recover their singular set as the Gromov boundary but also as the Martin boundary for many classical elliptic operators.
We prove that a 3-dimensional hyperbolic cusp with convex polyhedral boundary is uniquely determined by the metric induced on its boundary. Furthemore, any hyperbolic metric on the torus with cone singularities of positive curvature can be realized as the induced metric on the boundary of a convex polyhedral cusp. The proof uses the total scalar curvature functional on the space of ``cusps with particles'', which are hyperbolic cone-manifolds with the singular locus a union of half-lines. We prove, in addition, that convex polyhedral cusps with particles are rigid with respect to the induced m…
J. Nitsche proved that an isolated singularity of a conformal hyperbolic metric is either a conical singularity or a cusp one. We prove by developing map that there exists a complex coordinate $z$ centered at the singularity where the metric has the expression of either $\displaystyle{\frac{4α^2\vert z \vert^{2α-2}}{(1-\vert z \vert ^{2α})^2}\vert \mathrm{d} z \vert^2}$ with $α>0$ or $\displaystyle{\vert z \vert ^{-2}\big(\ln|z|\big)^{-2}|dz|^{2}}$.
We prove the existence of a minimal diffeomorphism isotopic to the identity between two hyperbolic cone surfaces $(Σ,g_1)$ and $(Σ,g_2)$ when the cone angles of $g_1$ and $g_2$ are different and smaller than $π$. When the cone angles of $g_1$ are strictly smaller than the ones of $g_2$, this minimal diffeomorphism is unique.
We consider an inverse problem associated with some 2-dimensional non-compact surfaces with conical singularities, cusps and regular ends. Our motivating example is a Riemann surface $\mathcal M = Γ\backslash{\bf H}^2$ associated with a Fuchsian group of the 1st kind $Γ$ containing parabolic elements. $\mathcal M$ is then non-compact, and has a finite number of cusps and elliptic singular points, which is regarded as a hyperbolic orbifold. We introduce a class of Riemannian surfaces with conical singularities on its finite part, having cusps and regular ends at infinity, whose metric is asympt…
A Fuchsian polyhedron in hyperbolic space is a polyhedral surface invariant under the action of a Fuchsian group of isometries (i.e. a group of isometries leaving globally invariant a totally geodesic surface, on which it acts cocompactly). The induced metric on a convex Fuchsian polyhedron is isometric to a hyperbolic metric with conical singularities of positive singular curvature on a compact surface of genus greater than one. We prove that these metrics are actually realised by exactly one convex Fuchsian polyhedron (up to global isometries). This extends a famous theorem of A.D. Alexandro…
We construct Riemannian manifolds with singular continuous spectrum embedded in the absolutely continuous spectrum of the Laplacian. Our manifolds are asymptotically hyperbolic with sharp curvature bounds.
Manifolds with fibered hyperbolic cusp metrics include hyperbolic manifolds with cusps and locally symmetric spaces of Q-rank one. We extend Vaillant's treatment of Dirac-type operators associated to these metrics by weaking the hypotheses on the boundary families through the use of Fredholm perturbations as in the family index theorem of Melrose and Piazza and by treating the index of families of such operators. We also extend the index theorem of Moroianu and Leichtnam-Mazzeo-Piazza to families of perturbed Dirac-type operators associated to fibered cusp metrics (sometimes known as fibered b…
We establish a correspondence on a Riemann surface between hyperbolic metrics with isolated singularities and bounded projective functions whose Schwarzian derivatives have at most double poles and whose monodromies lie in ${\rm PSU}(1,\,1)$. As an application, we construct explicitly a new class of hyperbolic metrics with countably many singularities on the unit disc.
For a Riemann surface with cusps we define a theta function using the eigenvalues of the Laplacian and the singularities of the scattering determinant. We provide its meromorphic continuation and discuss its singularities.
We discuss questions of isospectrality for hyperbolic orbisurfaces, examining the relationship between the geometry of an orbisurface and its Laplace spectrum. We show that certain hyperbolic orbisurfaces cannot be isospectral, where the obstructions involve the number of singular points and genera of our orbisurfaces. Using a version of the Selberg Trace Formula for hyperbolic orbisurfaces, we show that the Laplace spectrum determines the length spectrum and the orders of the singular points, up to finitely many possibilities. Conversely, knowledge of the length spectrum and the orders of the…
We prove that any hyperbolic end with particles (cone singularities along infinite curves of angles less than $π$) admits a unique foliation by constant Gauss curvature surfaces. Using a form of duality between hyperbolic ends with particles and convex globally hyperbolic maximal (GHM) de Sitter spacetime with particles, it follows that any convex GHM de Sitter spacetime with particles also admits a unique foliation by constant Gauss curvature surfaces. We prove that the grafting map from the product of Teichmüller space with the space of measured laminations to the space of complex projective…
We consider ``hyperideal'' circle patterns, i.e. patterns of disks appearing in the definition of the Delaunay decomposition associated to a set of disjoint disks, possibly with cone singularities at the center of those disks. Hyperideal circle patterns are associated to hyperideal hyperbolic polyhedra. We describe the possible intersection angles and singular curvatures of those circle patterns, on Euclidean or hyperbolic surfaces with conical singularities. This is related to results on the dihedral angles of ideal or hyperideal hyperbolic polyhedra.
We show that the real-valued function $S_α$ on the moduli space $\mathcal{M}_{0,n}$ of pointed rational curves, defined as the critical value of the Liouville action functional on a hyperbolic 2-sphere with $n\geq 3$ conical singularities of arbitrary orders $α=\{α_1,...,α_n\}$, generates accessory parameters of the associated Fuchsian differential equation as their common antiderivative. We introduce a family of Kaehler metrics on $\mathcal{M}_{0,n}$ parameterized by the set of orders $α$, explictly relate accessory parameters to these metrics, and prove that the functions $S_α$ are their Kae…
We introduce a model for Hermitian holormorphic Deligne cohomology on a projective algebraic manifold which allows to incorporate singular hermitian structures along a normal crossing divisor. In the case of a projective curve, the cup-product in cohomology is shown to correspond to a generalization of the Deligne pairing to line bundles with "good" hermitian metrics in the sense of Mumford and others. A particular case is that of the tangent bundle of the curve twisted by the negative of the singularity divisor of a hyperbolic metric: its cup square (corrected by the total area) is shown to b…
In this paper, we consider conformal metrics on a unit 4-disc with an asymptotically hyperbolic end and possible isolated conic singularities. We define a mass term of the AH end. If the $σ_{2}$ curvature has lower bound $σ_{2}\geq\frac{3}{2}$, we prove a Penrose type inequality relating the mass and contributions from singularities. We also classify sharp cases, which is the standard hyperbolic 4-space $\mathbb{H}^{4}$ when no singularity occurs. It is worth noting that our curvature condition implies non-positive energy density.
