Provided that cavities are initially in a Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) entangled state, we show that GHZ states of N-group qubits distributed in N cavities can be created via a 3-step operation. The GHZ states of the N-group qubits are generated by using N-group qutrits placed in the N cavities. Here, "qutrit" refers to a three-level quantum system with the two lowest levels representing a qubit while the third level acting as an intermediate state necessary for the GHZ state creation. This proposal does not depend on the architecture of the cavity-based quantum network and the way for coupling the cavities. The operation time is independent of the number of qubits. The GHZ states are prepared deterministically because no measurement on the states of qutrits or cavities is needed. In addition, the third energy level of the qutrits during the entire operation is virtually excited and thus decoherence from higher energy levels is greatly suppressed. This proposal is quite general and can in principle be applied to create GHZ states of many qubits using different types of physical qutrits (e.g., atoms, quantum dots, NV centers, various superconducting qutrits, etc.) distributed in multiple cavities. As a specific example, we further discuss the experimental feasibility of preparing a GHZ state of four-group transmon qubits (each group consisting of three qubits) distributed in four one-dimensional transmission line resonators arranged in an array.
We consider entangled two-photon generalized binomial states of the electromagnetic field in two separate cavities. The nonlocal properties of this entangled field state are analyzed by studying the electric field correlations between the two cavities. A Bell's inequality violation is obtained using an appropriate dichotomic cavity operator, that is in principle measurable.
We propose a conditional scheme to generate entangled two-photons generalized binomial states inside two separate single-mode high-Q cavities. This scheme requires that the two cavities are initially prepared in entangled one-photon generalized binomial states and exploits the passage of two appropriately prepared two-level atoms one in each cavity. The measurement of the ground state of both atoms is finally required when they exit the cavities. We also give a brief evaluation of the experimental feasibility of the scheme.
We report on the theoretical investigation of photonic crystal cavities etched on a suspended membrane for the generation of polarization entangled photon pairs using the biexciton cascade in a single quantum dot. The implementation of spontaneous emission enhancement effect increases the entanglement visibility, while the concomitant preferential funneling of the emission in the cavity mode increases the collection of both entangled photons. We demonstrate and quantify that standard cavity designs present a polarization dependent emission diagram, detrimental to entanglement. The optimization…
A recent work [1] proposed a type of cluster entangled coherent states and its generation. Here we present an alternative experimental arrangement for its generation in bimodal QED cavities. The scheme employs a single two-level atom that interacts dispersively with cavity modes initially prepared in coherent states. The fidelity and success probability of the state preparation are obtained considering the influence of atomic velocity spread and atomic efficiency detection.
We propose a scheme for the generation of two-mode entangled states between two spatially separated cavities. It utilizes a two-level atom sequentially coupling to two high-Q cavities with a strong classical driving field. It is shown that by suitably choosing the intensities and detunings of the fields and coherent control of the dynamics, several different entangled states such as entangled coherent states and Bell states can be produced between the modes of the two cavities.
We consider the entanglement of orthogonal generalized Bernoulli states in two separate single-mode high-$Q$ cavities. The expectation values and the correlations of the electric field in the cavities are obtained. We then define, in each cavity, a dichotomic operator expressible in terms of the field states which can be, in principle, experimentally measured by a probe atom that ``reads'' the field. Using the quantum correlations of couples of these operators, we construct a Bell's inequality which is shown to be violated for a wide range of the degree of entanglement and which can be tested …
We present a probabilistic scheme for generating and purifying maximally-entangled states of two atoms inside an optical cavity via no-photon detection in the output cavity mode, where ideal detectors may not be required. The intermediate mixed states can be continuously "filtered" so as to violate Bell inequalities in a parametrized manner. The scheme relies on an additional strong-driving field that yields unusual dynamics in cavity QED experiments, simultaneously realizing Jaynes-Cummings and anti-Jaynes-Cummings interactions.
We present protocols to generate quantum entanglement on nonlocal magnons in hybrid systems composed of yttrium iron garnet (YIG) spheres, microwave cavities and a superconducting (SC) qubit. In the schemes, the YIGs are coupled to respective microwave cavities in resonant way, and the SC qubit is placed at the center of the cavities, which interacts with the cavities simultaneously. By exchanging the virtual photon, the cavities can indirectly interact in the far-detuning regime. Detailed protocols are presented to establish entanglement for two, three and arbitrary $N$ magnons with reasonabl…
We have proposed a simple scheme to entangle two distant qutrits trapped in separate optical cavities. The quantum information of each qutrit is skillfully encoded on the degenerate ground states of a pair of atoms, hence the entanglement between them is relatively stable against spontaneous emission. In Lamb-Dicke limits, it is not necessary to require coincidence detections, which will relax the conditions for the experimental realization. The scheme is robust against the inefficient detections.
We propose a scheme for generating steady entanglement between two distant atomic qubits in the coupled-cavity system via laser cooling. With suitable choice of the laser frequencies, the target entangled state is the only ground state that is not excited by the lasers due to large detunings. The laser excitations of other ground states, together with dissipative processes, drive the system to the target state which is the unique steady state of the system. Numerical simulation shows that the maximally entangled state with high fidelity can be produced with presently available cooperativity.
Green-Horne-Zeilinger states are a typical type of multipartite entangled states, which plays a central role in quantum information processing. For the generation of multipartite entangled states, the single-step method is more preferable as the needed time will not increase with the increasing of the qubit number. However, this scenario has a strict requirement that all the two-qubit interaction strengths should be the same, or the generated state will be of low quality. Here, we propose a scheme for generating multipartite entangled states of superconducting qubits, from a coupled circuit ca…
By exploiting a system of three distant cavities, we propose a scheme for constructing tripartite entangled coherent GHZ and W states which are robust due to the photon losses in the cavities. Each of cavities is doped with a semiconductor quantum dot. By the dynamics, the excitonic modes of quantum dots are enabled to exhibit entan-gled coherent GHZ and W states. Apart from the exciton losses, the master equation approach shows that when the populations of the field modes in the cavities are negli-gible the destruction of entanglement due to decoherence arises from photon losses, is effective…
We propose a method to prepare entangled states and implement quantum computation with atoms in optical cavities. The internal state of the atoms are entangled by a measurement of the phase of light transmitted through the cavity. By repeated measurements an entangled state is created with certainty, and this entanglement can be used to implement gates on qubits which are stored in different internal degrees of freedom of the atoms. This method, based on measurement induced dynamics, has a higher fidelity than schemes making use of controlled unitary dynamics.
The dynamics of the quantum discord for two identical qubits in both two independent single-mode cavities and a common single-mode cavity are discussed. For the initial Bell state with correlated spins, while the entanglement sudden death can occur, the quantum discord vanishes only at discrete moments in the independent cavities and never vanishes in the common cavity. Interestingly, quantum discord and entanglement show opposite behaviors in the common cavity, unlike in the independent cavities. For the initial Bell state with anti-correlated spins, quantum discord and entanglement behave in…
We propose a scheme to unconditionally entangle the internal states of atoms trapped in separate high finesse optical cavities. The scheme uses the technique of quantum reservoir engineering in a cascaded cavity QED setting, and for ideal (lossless) coupling between the cavities generates an entangled pure state. Highly entangled states are also shown to be possible for realizable cavity QED parameters and with nonideal coupling.
The project uses QuTiP, a quantum computing framework, to simulate interactions between two-qubits coupled with each other via three resonators. The main aim of this project is to build machinery of techniques to understand complex qubit-cavity interactions using QuTiP's functionalities. The system simulated mimics the one constructed by McKay et. al. (M15) and the results of the simulations closely agree with M15's experimental results. The effect of the coupling strength between the qubits and the cavities is studied. It was observed that stronger couplings generated larger separations betwe…
We propose an approach to simultaneously perform quantum state exchange or transfer between two sets of cavities, each containing $N$ cavities, by using only one superconducting coupler qubit. The quantum states to be exchanged or transferred can be arbitrary pure or mixed states and entangled or nonentangled. The operation time does not increase with the number of cavities, and there is no need of applying classic pulses during the entire operation. Moreover, the approach can be also applied to realize quantum state exchange or transfer between two sets of qubits, such as that between two mul…
The generation of entanglement between three identical coupled cavities, each containing a single three-level atom, is studied when the cavities exchange two coherent photons and are in the N=2, 4, and 6 manifolds, where $N$ represents the maximum number of photons possible in any one cavity. The combined states of the atom and the photon in a cavity is given by a qutrit for N=2, a five-dimensional qudit for N=4, and a seven-dimensional qudit for N=6. The conservation of the operator $\hat{N}$ for the interacting three-cavity system limits the total number of tripartite states to only 6, 18, a…
In this paper, we study the fast and noise-resistant population transfer, quantum entangled states preparation, and quantum entangled states' transition by constructing the shortcuts to adiabatic passage (STAP) for multiparticle based on the approach of "Lewis-Riesenfeld invariants" in distant cavity quantum electronic dynamics (QED) system. Numerical simulation demonstrates that all of the schemes are fast and robust against the decoherence caused by atomic spontaneous emission and photon leakage. Moreover, not only the total operation time but also the robustness in each scheme against decoh…
We propose an efficient method to generate a GHZ entangled state of n photons in n microwave cavities (or resonators) via resonant interaction to a single superconducting qutrit. The deployment of a qutrit, instead of a qubit, as the coupler enables us to use resonant interactions exclusively for all qutrit-cavity and qutrit-pulse operations. This unique approach significantly shortens the time of operation which is advantageous to reducing the adverse effects of qutrit decoherence and cavity decay on fidelity of the protocol. Furthermore, the protocol involves no measurement on either the sta…
Motivated by the need for communication of coherent state-based qubits in quantum computers, we introduce a method for perfect transferring of an arbitrary superposition of coherent states between two distant nodes of a linear array of three semiconductor QDs. The QDs trapped in a system of coupled cavities. In this method, the field mode of the cavities, as the resource of transferring of quantum states, are only virtually excited which minimizes the effect of decoherence due to photon loss.
In this paper, we study the effect of classical driving field on the spontaneous emission spectrum of a qubit embedded in a dissipative cavity. Furthermore, we monitor the entanglement dynamics of the driven qubit with its radiative decay under the action of the classical field. Afterwards, we carry out an investigation on the possibility of entanglement swapping between two such distinct driven qubits. The swapping will be feasible with the aid of a Bell state measurement performing on the photons leaving the cavities. It is demonstrated that the classical driving field has a beneficial effec…
We propose a one-step scheme to implement a multiqubit controlled phase gate of one qubit simultaneously controlling multiple qubits with three-level atoms at distant nodes in coupled cavity arrays. The selective qubit-qubit couplings are achieved by adiabatically eliminating the atomic excited states and photonic states and the required phase shifts between the control qubit and any target qubit can be realized through suitable choices of the parameters of the external fields. Moreover, the effective model is robust against decoherence because neither the atoms nor the field modes during the …
We show that the temperature of a cavity field can be drastically varied by its interaction with suitably-entangled atom pairs (dimers) traversing the cavity under realistic atomic decoherence. To this end we resort to the hitherto untapped resource of naturally entangled dimers whose state can be simply controlled via molecular dissociation, collisions forming the dimer, or unstable dimers such as positronium. Depending on the chosen state of the dimer, the cavity-field mode can be driven to a steady-state temperature that is either much lower or much higher than the ambient temperature, desp…
We propose a method for transferring quantum entangled states of two photonic cat-state qubits (cqubits) from two microwave cavities to the other two microwave cavities. This proposal is realized by using four microwave cavities coupled to a superconducting flux qutrit. Because of using four cavities with different frequencies, the inter-cavity crosstalk is significantly reduced. Since only one coupler qutrit is used, the circuit resources is minimized. The entanglement transfer is completed with a single-step operation only, thus this proposal is quite simple. The third energy level of the co…
We propose a way to prepare Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) entangled photon Fock states of three cavities, by using a superconducting flux qutrit coupled to the cavities. This proposal does not require the use of classical microwave pulses and measurement during the entire operation. Thus, the operation is greatly simplified and the circuit engineering complexity and cost is much reduced. The proposal is quite general and can be applied to generate three-cavity GHZ entangled photon Fock states when the three cavities are coupled by a different three-level physical system such as a supercond…
We study dynamics of local quantum uncertainty (LQU) for a system of two cavities and two reservoirs. In the start, the cavities treated as two qubits are quantum correlated with each other, whereas reservoirs are neither correlated with each other nor with cavities. We answer two main questions in this work. First, how local quantum uncertainty decays from two quantum correlated cavities and grows among reservoirs. The second question is the examination of LQU developed among four qubits and also shed some light on its dynamics. We observe that LQU develops among reservoirs as kind of mirror …
We propose to produce entanglement by measuring the transmission of an optical cavity. Conditioned on the detection of a reflected photon, pairs of atoms in the cavity are prepared in maximally entangled states. The success probability depends on the cavity parameters, but high quality entangled states may be produced with a high probability even for cavities of moderate quality.
We investigate the generation and transfer of entangled states between two coupled microtoroidal cavities considering two different types of couplings, namely i) via a bridge qubit and ii) via evanescent fields. The cavities support two counter-propagating whispering-gallery modes (WGMs) that may also interact with each other. We firstly show that it is possible to transfer, with high fidelity, a maximally entangled state between the two modes of the first cavity (cavity 1) to the two modes of the second cavity (cavity 2), independently of the type of coupling. Interesting differences, though,…
Finding strategies to preserve quantum resources in open systems is nowadays a main requirement for reliable quantum-enhanced technologies. We address this issue by considering structured cavities embedding qubits driven by a control technique known as frequency modulation. We first study a single qubit in a lossy cavity to determine optimal modulation parameters and qubit-cavity coupling regime allowing a gain of four orders of magnitude concerning coherence lifetimes. We relate this behavior to the inhibition of the qubit effective decay rate rather than to stronger memory effects (non-Marko…
A potential scheme is proposed to generate complete sets of entangled photons in the context of cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED). The scheme includes twice interactions of atoms with cavities, in which the first interaction is made in two-mode optical cavities and the second one exists in a microwave cavity. In the optical cavities the atoms are resonant with the cavity modes, while the detuned interaction of the atoms with a single-mode of the microwave cavity is driven by a classical field. We show that our scheme is carried out with higher efficiency than previeous schemes, and is close…
We propose a scheme for the generation of entangled states for two atoms trapped in separate cavities coupled to each other. The scheme is based on the competition between the unitary dynamics induced by the classical fields and the collective decays induced by the dissipation of two delocalized field modes. Under certain conditions, the symmetric or asymmetric entangled state is produced in the steady state. The analytical result shows that the distributed steady entanglement can be achieved with high fidelity independent of the initial state, and is robust against parameter fluctuations. We …
Josephson junctions have been shown to be a promising solid-state system for implementation of quantum computation. The significant two-qubit gates are generally realized by the capacitive coupling between the nearest neighbour qubits. We propose an effective Hamiltonian to describe charge qubits coupled through the cavity. We find that nontrivial two-qubit gates may be achieved by this coupling. The ability to interconvert localized charge qubits and flying qubits in the proposed scheme implies that quantum network can be constructed using this large scalable solid-state system.
Cavity-based large-scale quantum information processing (QIP) needs a large number of qubits and placing all of them in a single cavity quickly runs into many fundamental and practical problems such as the increase of cavity decay rate and decrease of qubit-cavity coupling strength. Therefore, future QIP most likely will require quantum networks consisting of a large number of cavities, each hosting and coupled to multiple qubits. In this work, we propose a way to prepare a $W$-class entangled state of spatially-separated multiple qubits in different cavities, which are connected to a coupler …
Constructing compact quantum circuits for universal quantum gates on solid-state systems is crucial for quantum computing. We present some compact quantum circuits for a deterministic solid-state quantum computing, including the CNOT, Toffoli, and Fredkin gates on the diamond nitrogen-vacancy centers confined inside cavities, achieved by some input-output processes of a single photon. Our quantum circuits for these universal quantum gates are simple and economic. Moreover, additional electron qubits are not employed, but only a single-photon medium. These gates have a long coherent time. We di…
We analyze a coupling scheme for qubits in different cavities of circuit-QED architecture. In contrast to the usual scheme where the cavities are coupled by an interface capacitance we employ a bridge qubit connecting cavities to mediate two-qubit coupling. This active coupling scheme makes it possible to switch on/off and adjust the strength of qubit-qubit coupling, which is essential for scalability of quantum circuit. By transforming the Hamiltonian we obtain an exact expression of two-qubit coupling in the rotating-wave approximation. For the general case of $n$ qubits the Hamiltonian can …
Cavity resonators are promising resources for quantum technology, while native nonlinear interactions for cavities are typically too weak to provide the level of quantum control required to deliver complex targeted operations. Here we investigate a scheme to engineer a target Hamiltonian for photonic cavities using ancilla qubits. By off-resonantly driving dispersively coupled ancilla qubits, we develop an optimized approach to engineering an arbitrary photon-number-dependent (PND) Hamiltonian for the cavities while minimizing the operation errors. The engineered Hamiltonian admits various app…
We propose a dissipative scheme to prepare a three-dimensional entangled state for two atoms trapped in separate coupled cavities. Our work shows that both atomic spontaneous emission and cavity decay, which are two typical obstacles in unitary-dynamics-based schemes, could be utilized as resources for high-dimensional entangled state preparation without specifying initial state and controlling time precisely. Final numerical simulation with one group of experimental parameters indicates that the performance of our scheme is better than the unitary-dynamics-based scheme.
We show how one can prepare three-qubit entangled states like W states, Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states as well as two-qutrit entangled states using the multiatom two-mode entanglement. We propose a technique of preparing such a multi-particle entanglement using stimulated Raman adiabatic passage. We consider a collection of three-level atoms in $Λ$ configuration simultaneously interacting with a resonant two-mode cavity for this purpose. Our approach permits a variety of multiparticle extensions.
We propose a way for transferring Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) entangled states from $n$ qubits in one cavity onto another $n$ qubits in the other cavity. It is shown that $n$-qubit GHZ states $α\left\vert 00...0\right\rangle +β\left\vert 11...1\right\rangle $ with arbitrary degree of entanglement can be transferred deterministically. Both of the GHZ state transfer and the operation time are not dependent on the number of qubits, and there is no need of measurement. This proposal is quite general and can be applied to accomplish the same task for a wide range of physical qubits. Furthermo…
We investigate the lazy states, entangled states and discordant states for 2-qubit systems. We show that many lazy states are discordant, many lazy states are entangled, and many mixed entangled states are not lazy. With these investigations, we provide a laziness-discord-entanglement hierarchy diagram about 2-qubit quantum correlations.
Bipartite correlations in multi-qubit systems cannot be shared freely. The presence of entanglement or classical correlation on certain pairs of qubits may imply correlations on other pairs. We present a method of characterization of bi-partite correlations in multi-qubit systems using a concept of entangled graphs that has been introduced in our earlier work [M.Plesch and V.Buzek, Phys. Rev. A 67, 012322 (2003)]. In entangled graphs each qubit is represented by a vertex while the entanglement and classical correlations are represented by two types of edges. We prove by construction that any e…
Quantum error detection has always been a fundamental challenge in a fault-tolerant quantum computer. Hence, it is of immense importance to detect and deal with arbitrary errors to efficiently perform quantum computation. Several error detection codes have been proposed and realized for lower number of qubit systems. Here we present an error detection code for a (2n+1)-qubit entangled state using two syndrome qubits and simulate it on IBM's 16-qubit quantum computer for a 13-qubit entangled system. The code is able to detect an arbitrary quantum error in any one of the first 2n qubits of the (…
We present a generalized criterion for maximally entangled nine-qubit states, whose minimum averaged subsystem purity should be equal to 1/14. In this note, we prove that absolutely maximally entangled state for nine qubits does not exist. Further, we construct a new genuine nine-qubit maximally entangled states of 110,15 and 1 balanced purities equal to 1/16, , 1/8 and and 1/4, respectively. We found that, the marginal density matrices for subsystems of 1,2,3- qubits all completely mixed in these states, therefore, maximally entangled nine-qubit state is a 3-uniform state.
Paolo Facchi et al.[Phys. Rev. A. 77, 060304(R) (2009)] presented a maximally multipartite entangled state(MMES). Here we give the criterion for four-qubit state.and some new characterizations of the maximally entangled four-qubit state are given.
We propose an optical scheme to generate genuine entangled states of four atomic qubits in optical cavities using a single-photon source, beam splitters and single photon detectors. We show how to generate deterministically sixteen orthonormal and independent genuine entangled states of four atomic qubits. It is found that the sixteen genuine entangled states form a new type of representation of the four-atomic-qubit system, i.e., the genuine entangled-state representation. This representation brings new interesting insight onto better understanding multipartite entanglement.
We show that frequent nondemolition measurements of a quantum system immersed in a thermal bath allow the extraction of work in a closed cycle from the system-bath interaction (correlation) energy, a hitherto unexploited work resource. It allows for work even if no information is gathered or the bath is at zero temperature, provided the cycle is within the bath memory time. The predicted work resource may be the basis of quantum engines embedded in a bath with long memory time, such as the electromagnetic bath of a high-Q cavity coupled to two-level systems.
Four-qubit Smolin bound entangled state has a distinct feature: the state is not distillable when every qubit is seperated from each other; but it makes two separated qubit entangled if the other qubits group together. Here the feature is applied to quantum secret sharing, a QSS protocol similar to Ekert 91 protocol of QKD is proposed. The security problem, disadvantage and advantageof this protocol are disscused.
Introducing classical fields, we can transfer entanglement completely from discrete qubits into entangled coherent state. The entanglement also can be retrieved from the continuous-variable state of the cavities to the atomic qubits. Via postselection measure, atomic entangled state and entangled coherent state can be mutual transformed fully.
Distribution of the entangled state of trapped atomic ions to long distance using quantum repeater protocol is considered. Indeed, the long distance is divided into short parts, and then using entanglement generation and entanglement swapping techniques in optomechanical cavities, the entanglement is distributed. To do the task, we perform interaction between trapped atomic ions in optomechanical cavities, operate proper measurements on trapped ions and also make Bell state measurement as a well-known way to swap the entanglement. Accordingly, the entanglement is distributed between target ion…
Important tasks in cavity quantum electrodynamics include the generation and control of quantum states of spatially-separated particles distributed in different cavities. An interesting question in this context is how to prepare entanglement among particles located in different cavities, which are important for large-scale quantum information processing. We here consider a multi-cavity system where cavities are coupled to a superconducting (SC) qubit and each cavity hosts many SC qubits. We show that all intra-cavity SC qubits plus the coupler SC qubit can be prepared in an entangled Greenberg…
Contrary to A.Borras et al.'s [1] conjecture, a genuine maximally seven-qubit entangled state is presented. We find a seven-qubit state whose marginal density matrices for subsystems of 1,2- qubits are all completely mixed and for subsystems of 3-qubits is almost completely mixed.
First, we present a Bell type inequality for n qubits, assuming that m out of the n qubits are independent. Quantum mechanics violates this inequality by a ratio that increases exponentially with m. Hence an experiment on n qubits violating of this inequality sets a lower bound on the number m of entangled qubits. Next, we propose a definition of maximally entangled states of n qubits. For this purpose we study 5 different criteria. Four of these criteria are found compatible. For any number n of qubits, they determine an orthogonal basis consisting of maximally entangled states generalizing t…
The transfer of quantum entanglement (or quantum coherence) is not only fundamental in quantum mechanics but also important in quantum information processing. We here propose a way to achieve the coherent transfer of $W$-class entangled states of qubits among different cavities. Because no photon is excited in each cavity, decoherence caused by the photon decay is suppressed during the transfer. In addition, only one coupler qubit and one operational step are needed and no classical pulses are used in this proposal, thus the engineering complexity is much reduced and the operation is greatly s…
We experimentally generate and tomographically characterize a mixed, genuinely non-Gaussian bipartite continuous-variable entangled state. By testing entanglement in 2$\times$2-dimensional two-qubit subspaces, entangled qubits are localized within the density matrix, which, firstly, proves the distillability of the state and, secondly, is useful to estimate the efficiency and test the applicability of distillation protocols. In our example, the entangled qubits are arranged in the density matrix in an asymmetric way, i.e. entanglement is found between diverse qubits composed of different photo…
The structure of all completely positive quantum operations is investigated which transform pure two-qubit input states of a given degree of entanglement in a covariant way. Special cases thereof are quantum NOT operations which transform entangled pure two-qubit input states of a given degree of entanglement into orthogonal states in an optimal way. Based on our general analysis all covariant optimal two-qubit quantum NOT operations are determined. In particular, it is demonstrated that only in the case of maximally entangled input states these quantum NOT operations can be performed perfectl…
