Nonlocal sets of orthogonal product states (OPSs) are widely used in quantum protocols owing to their good property. Thus a lot of attention are paid to how to construct a nonlocal set of orthogonal product states though it is a difficult problem. In this paper, we propose a novel general method to construct a nonlocal set of orthogonal product states in $\mathbb{C}^{d} \otimes \mathbb{C}^{d}$ for $d\geq3$. We give an ingenious proof for the local indistinguishability of those product states. The set of product states, which are constructed by our method, has a very good structure. Subsequently, we give a construction of nonlocal set of OPSs with smaller members in $\mathbb{C}^{d} \otimes \mathbb{C}^{d}$ for $d\geq3$. On the other hand, we present two construction methods of nonlocal sets of OPSs in $\mathbb{C}^{m} \otimes \mathbb{C}^{n}$, where $m\geq3$ and $n\geq3.$ Furthermore, we propose the concept of isomorphism for two nonlocal sets of OPSs. Our work is of great help to understand the structure and classification of locally indistinguishable OPSs.
The nonlocal properties for a kind of generic N-dimensional bipartite quantum systems are investigated. A complete set of invariants under local unitary transformations is presented. It is shown that two generic density matrices are locally equivalent if and only if all these invariants have equal values in these density matrices.
Many three-party correlations, including some that are commonly described as genuinely tripartite nonlocal, can be simulated by a network of underlying subsystems that display only bipartite nonsignaling nonlocal behavior. Quantum mechanics predicts three-party correlations that admit no such simulation, suggesting there are versions of nonlocality in nature transcending the phenomenon of bipartite nonsignaling nonlocality. This paper introduces a rigorous framework for analyzing tripartite correlations that can be simulated by bipartite-only networks. We confirm that expected properties of so…
In this letter, a nonlocal effect for a bipartite system which is induced by a local cyclic evolution of one of its subsystem is suggested. This effect vanishes when the system is at a disentangled pure state but can be observed for some disentangled mixed states. As a paradigm, we study the effect for the system of two qubits in detail. It is interesting that the effect is directly related to the degree of entanglement for pure state of qubit pairs. Furthermore, we suggest a Bell-type experiment to measure this nonlocal effect for qubit pairs.
We show how to convert an arbitrary stabilizer code into a bipartite quantum code. A bipartite quantum code is one that involves two senders and one receiver. The two senders exploit both nonlocal and local quantum resources to encode quantum information with local encoding circuits. They transmit their encoded quantum data to a single receiver who then decodes the transmitted quantum information. The nonlocal resources in a bipartite code are ebits and nonlocal information qubits and the local resources are ancillas and local information qubits. The technique of bipartite quantum error correc…
We study the nonlocality of arbitrary dimensional bipartite quantum states. By computing the maximal violation of a set of multi-setting Bell inequalities, an analytical and computable lower bound has been derived for general two-qubit states. This bound gives the necessary condition that a two-qubit state admits no local hidden variable models. The lower bound is shown to be better than that from the CHSH inequality in judging the nonlocality of some quantum states. The results are generalized to the case of high dimensional quantum states, and a sufficient condition for detecting the non-loc…
We show that some tripartite quantum correlations are inexplicable by any causal theory involving bipartite nonclassical common causes and unlimited shared randomness. This constitutes a device-independent proof that Nature's nonlocality is fundamentally at least tripartite in every conceivable physical theory - no matter how exotic. To formalize this claim we are compelled to substitute Svetlichny's historical definition of genuine tripartite nonlocality with a novel theory-agnostic definition tied to the framework of Local Operations and Shared Randomness (LOSR). A companion article [PRA. 10…
In certain cases the communication time required to deterministically implement a nonlocal bipartite unitary using prior entanglement and LOCC (local operations and classical communication) can be reduced by a factor of two. We introduce two such "fast" protocols and illustrate them with various examples. For some simple unitaries, the entanglement resource is used quite efficiently. The problem of exactly which unitaries can be implemented by these two protocols remains unsolved, though there is some evidence that the set of implementable unitaries may expand at the cost of using more entangl…
Any bipartite nonlocal unitary operation can be carried out by teleporting a quantum state from one party to the other, performing the unitary gate locally, and teleporting a state back again. This paper investigates unitaries which can be carried out using less prior entanglement and classical communication than are needed for teleportation. Large families of such unitaries are constructed using (projective) representations of finite groups. Among the tools employed are: a diagrammatic approach for representing entangled states, a theorem on the necessary absence of information at certain tim…
Entanglement is an useful resource because some global operations cannot be locally implemented using classical communication. We prove a number of results about what is and is not locally possible. We focus on orthogonal states, which can always be globally distinguished. We establish the necessary and sufficient conditions for a general set of 2x2 quantum states to be locally distinguishable, and for a general set of 2xn quantum states to be distinguished given an initial measurement of the qubit. These results reveal a fundamental asymmetry to nonlocality, which is the origin of ``nonlocali…

Two dual questions in quantum information theory are to determine the communication cost of simulating a bipartite unitary gate, and to determine their communication capacities. We present a bipartite unitary gate with two surprising properties: 1) simulating it with the assistance of unlimited EPR pairs requires far more communication than with a better choice of entangled state, and 2) its communication capacity is far lower than its capacity to create entanglement. This suggests that 1) unlimited EPR pairs are not the most general model of entanglement assistance for two-party communication…
Measurement-induced nonlocality is a measure of nonlocalty introduced by Luo and Fu [Phys. Rev. Lett \textbf{106}, 120401 (2011)]. In this paper, we study the problem of evaluation of Measurement-induced nonlocality (MIN) for an arbitrary $m\times n$ dimensional bipartite density matrix $ρ$ for the case where one of its reduced density matrix, $ρ^{a}$, is degenerate (the nondegenerate case was explained in the preceding reference). Suppose that, in general, $ρ^{a}$ has $d$ degenerate subspaces with dimension $m_{i} (m_{i} \leq m, i=1, 2, ..., d)$. We show that according to the degeneracy of $ρ…
We show that there is a stronger form of bipartite quantum nonlocality in which systems that never interacted are as nonlocal as allowed by no-signaling. For this purpose, we first show that nonlocal boxes, theoretical objects that violate a bipartite Bell inequality as much as the no-signaling principle allows and which are physically impossible for most scenarios, are feasible if the two parties have 3 measurements with 4 outputs. Then we show that, in this case, entanglement swapping allows us to prepare mixtures of nonlocal boxes using systems that never interacted.
In this paper we present a necessary and sufficient condition of distinguishability of bipartite quantum states. It is shown that the operators to reliably distinguish states need only rounds of projective measurements and classical comunication. We also present a necessary condition of distinguishability of bipartite quantum states which is simple and general. With this condition one can get many cases of indistinguishability. The conclusions may be useful in understanding the essence of nonlocality and calculating the distillable entanglement and the bound of distillable entanglement.
Recently, much attention have been paid to the constructions of nonlocal multipartite orthogonal product states. Among the existing results, some are relatively complex in structure while others have many constraint conditions. In this paper, we firstly give a simple method to construct a nonlocal set of orthogonal product states in $\otimes_{j=1}^{n}\mathbb{C}^{d}$ for $d\geq 2$. Then we give an ingenious proof for local indistinguishability of the set constructed by our method. According to the characteristics of this construction method, we get a new construction of nonlocal set with fewer …
In the topic of perfect local distinguishability of orthogonal multipartite quantum states, most results obtained so far pertain to bipartite systems whose subsystems are of specific dimensions. In contrast very few results for bipartite systems whose subsystems are of arbitrary dimensions, are known. This is because a rich variety of (algebraic or geometric) structure is exhibited by different sets of orthogonal states owing to which it is difficult to associate some common property underlying them all, i.e., a common property that would play a crucial role in the local distinguishability of …

The construction of nonlocal sets of quantum states has attracted much attention in recent years. We first introduce two Lemmas related to the triviality of orthogonality-preserving local measurements. Then we propose a general construction of nonlocal set of $n(d-1)+1$ orthogonal product states in $(\mathbb{C}^{d})^{\otimes n}$. The sets of nonlocal orthogonal product states are also put forward for the multipartite quantum systems with arbitrary dimensions. Our novel construction gives rise to nonlocal sets of orthogonal product states with much less members and thus reveals the phenomenon o…

Reproducing with elementary resources the correlations that arise when a quantum system is measured (quantum state simulation), allows one to get insight on the operational and computational power of quantum correlations. We propose a family of models that can simulate von Neumann measurements in the x-y plane of the Bloch sphere on n-partite GHZ states using only bipartite nonlocal boxes. For the tripartite and fourpartite states, the models use only bipartite nonlocal boxes; they can be translated into classical communication schemes with finite average communication cost.

We study the constructions of nonlocal orthogonal product states in multipartite systems that cannot be distinguished by local operations and classical communication. We first present two constructions of nonlocal orthogonal product states in tripartite systems $\mathcal{C}^{d}\otimes\mathcal{C}^{d}\otimes\mathcal{C}^{d}~(d\geq3)$ and $\mathcal{C}^d\otimes \mathcal{C}^{d+1}\otimes \mathcal{C}^{d+2}~(d\geq 3)$. Then for general tripartite quantum system $\mathcal{C}^{n_{1}}\otimes\mathcal{C}^{n_{2}}\otimes\mathcal{C}^{n_{3}}$ $(3\leq n_{1}\leq n_{2}\leq n_{3})$, we obtain $2(n_{2}+n_{3}-1)-n_{1…
It is known that there exist sets of pure orthogonal product states which cannot be perfectly distinguished by local operations and classical communication (LOCC). Such sets are nonlocal sets which exhibit nonlocality without entanglement. These nonlocal sets can be completable or uncompletable. In this work both completable and uncompletable small nonlocal sets of multipartite orthogonal product states are constructed. Apart from nonlocality, these sets have other interesting properties. In particular, the completable sets lead to the construction of a class of complete orthogonal product bas…
The intriguing and powerful capability of nonlocality in communication field ignites the research of the nonlocality distillation. The first protocol presented in Ref[Phys. Rev. Lett. 102, 120401] shows that the nonlocality of bipartite binary-input and binary-output nonsignaling correlated boxes could be amplified by 'wiring' two copies of weaker-nonlocality boxes. Several optimized distillation protocols were presented later for bipartite binary-input and binary-output nonsignaling correlated boxes. In this paper, we focus on the bipartite binary-input and multi-nary-output nonsignaling corr…
We show a transitivity property of nonlocal correlations: There exist tripartite nonsignaling correlations of which the bipartite marginals between A and B as well as B and C are nonlocal and any tripartite nonsignaling system between A, B, and C consistent with them must be such that the bipartite marginal between A and C is also nonlocal. This property represents a step towards ruling out certain alternative models for the explanation of quantum correlations such as hidden communication at finite speed. Whereas it is not possible to rule out this model experimentally, it is the goal of our a…
In this article, we investigate the dynamics of a bipartite system under the action of a local non-Hermitian system. We study the quantum correlation of the bipartite system quantified by the entanglement, measurement-induced nonlocality (MIN) based on Hilbert-Schmidt norm, trace distance, and Bell inequality. We find that the quantum correlations of the system depend on the initial conditions and system parameters. We observe that the states with nonzero quantum correlation obey the Bell inequality even in the absence of entanglement. Moreover, the Bell inequality completely fails to manifest…
Nonlocality without entanglement and its subsequent generalizations offer deep information-theoretic insights and subsequently find several useful applications. Concept of genuinely nonlocal set of product states emerges as a natural multipartite generalization of this phenomenon. Existence of such sets eventually motivates the problem concerning their entanglement-assisted discrimination. Here, we construct examples of genuinely nonlocal product states for arbitrary number of parties. Strength of genuine nonlocality of these sets can be considered minimal as their perfect discrimination is po…
In this paper, we consider the orthogonal product set (OPS) with strong quantum nonlocality. Based on the decomposition of plane geometry, we present a sufficient condition for the triviality of orthogonality-preserving POVM on fixed subsystem and partially answer an open question given by Yuan et al. Phys. Rev. A \textbf{102}, 042228 (2020)}. The connection between the nonlocality and the plane structure of OPS is established. We successfully construct a strongly nonlocal OPS in $\mathcal{C}^{d_{A}}\otimes \mathcal{C}^{d_{B}}\otimes \mathcal{C}^{d_{C}}$ $(d_{A,B,C}\geq 4)$, which contains few…
Starting from several copies of bipartite noisy entangled states, we design a global and optimal local measurement-based protocol in one- and two-dimensional lattices by which any two or more prefix sites can be connected via entanglement. Production of bipartite as well as multipartite entangled states in a network is verified in a device independent way through the violation of Bell inequalities with two settings per site and with continuous range of settings. We also note that if the parties refuse to perform local measurements, the entanglement distribution scheme fails. We obtain critical…
Nonlocality captures one of the counterintuitive features of nature that defies classical intuition. Recent investigations reveal that our physical world's nonlocality is at least tripartite; i.e., genuinely tripartite nonlocal correlations in nature cannot be reproduced by any causal theory involving bipartite nonclassical resources and unlimited shared randomness. Here, by allowing the fair sampling assumption and postselection, we experimentally demonstrate such genuine tripartite nonlocality in a network under strict locality constraints that are ensured by spacelike separating all relevan…
A set of multipartite orthogonal quantum states is strongly nonlocal if it is locally irreducible for every bipartition of the subsystems [Phys. Rev. Lett. 122, 040403 (2019)]. Although this property has been shown in three-, four- and five-partite systems, the existence of strongly nonlocal sets in $N$-partite systems remains unknown when $N\geq 6$. In this paper, we successfully show that a strongly nonlocal set of orthogonal entangled states exists in $(\mathbb{C}^d)^{\otimes N}$ for all $N\geq 3$ and $d\geq 2$, which for the first time reveals the strong quantum nonlocality in general $N$-…
We address perfect discrimination of two separable states. When available states are restricted to separable states, we can theoretically consider a larger class of measurements than the class of measurements allowed in quantum theory. The framework composed of the class of separable states and the above extended class of measurements is a typical example of general probabilistic theories. In this framework, we give a necessary and sufficient condition to discriminate two separable pure states perfectly. In particular, we derive measurements explicitly to discriminate two separable pure states…
We show that standard nonlocal boxes, also known as Popescu-Rohrlich machines, are not sufficient to simulate any nonlocal correlations that do not allow signalling. This was known in the multipartite scenario, but we extend the result to the bipartite case. We then generalize this result further by showing that no finite set containing any finite-output-alphabet nonlocal boxes can be a universal set for nonlocality.

We study the local indistinguishability of mutually orthogonal product basis quantum states in the high-dimensional quantum system. In the quantum system of $\mathbb{C}^d\otimes\mathbb{C}^d$, where $d$ is odd, Zhang \emph{et al} have constructed $d^2$ orthogonal product basis quantum states which are locally indistinguishable in [Phys. Rev. A. {\bf 90}, 022313(2014)]. We find a subset contains with $6d-9$ orthogonal product states which are still locally indistinguishable. Then we generalize our method to arbitrary bipartite quantum system $\mathbb{C}^m\otimes\mathbb{C}^n$. We present a small …
The concept of steering was introduced by Schrodinger in 1935 as a generalization of the EPR paradox for arbitrary pure bipartite entangled states and arbitrary measurements by one party. Until now, it has never been rigorously defined, so it has not been known (for example) what mixed states are steerable (that is, can be used to exhibit steering). We provide an operational definition, from which we prove (by considering Werner states and Isotropic states) that steerable states are a strict subset of the entangled states, and a strict superset of the states that can exhibit Bell-nonlocality. …
We introduce the entanglement gauge describing the combined effects of local operations and nonlocal unitary transformations on bipartite quantum systems. The entanglement gauge exploits the invariance of nonlocal properties for bipartite systems under local (gauge) transformations. This new formalism yields observable effects arising from the gauge geometry of the bipartite system. In particular, we propose a non-Abelian gauge theory realized via two separated spatial modes of the quantized electromagnetic field manipulated by linear optics. In this linear optical realization, a bi-partite st…
The nonlocal properties of arbitrary dimensional bipartite quantum systems are investigated. A complete set of invariants under local unitary transformations is presented. These invariants give rise to both sufficient and necessary conditions for the equivalence of quantum states under local unitary transformations: two density matrices are locally equivalent if and only if all these invariants have equal values.
General tradeoff relations present in nonlocal correlations of bipartite systems are studied, regardless of any specific quantum states and measuring directions. Extensions to multipartite scenarios are possible and very promising. Tsirelson's bound can be derived out in particular. The close connection with uncertainty relations is also presented and discussed.
A set of multipartite orthogonal product states is locally irreducible, if it is not possible to eliminate one or more states from the set by orthogonality-preserving local measurements. An effective way to prove that a set is locally irreducible is to show that only trivial orthogonality-preserving local measurement can be performed to this set. In general, it is difficult to show that such an orthogonality-preserving local measurement must be trivial. In this work, we develop two basic techniques to deal with this problem. Using these techniques, we successfully show the existence of unexten…
We show that the entanglement witnesses based on local orthogonal observables which are introduced in [S. Yu and N.-L. Liu, Phys. Rev. Lett. 95, 150504 (2005)] and [O. Gühne, M. Mechler, G. Tóth and P. Adam, Phys. Rev. A 74, 010301 (2006)] in linear and nonlinear forms can be optimized, respectively. As applications, we calculate the optimal nonlinear witnesses of pure bipartite states and show a lower bound on the I-concurrence of bipartite higher dimensional systems with our method.
A set of multipartite orthogonal product states is strongly nonlocal if it is locally irreducible in every bipartition. Most known constructions of strongly nonlocal orthogonal product set (OPS) are limited to tripartite systems, and they are lack of intuitive structures. In this work, based on the decomposition for the outermost layer of an $n$-dimensional hypercube for $n= 3,4,5$, we successfully construct strongly nonlocal OPSs in any possible three, four and five-partite systems, which answers an open question given by Halder et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett.122, 040403 (2019)] and Yuan et al. [Phy…
