We define form factors and scattering amplitudes in Conformal Field Theory as the coefficient of the singularity of the Fourier transform of time-ordered correlation functions, as $p^2 \to 0$. In particular, we study a form factor $F(s,t,u)$ obtained from a four-point function of identical scalar primary operators. We show that $F$ is crossing symmetric, analytic and it has a partial wave expansion. We illustrate our findings in the 3d Ising model, perturbative fixed points and holographic CFTs.
We investigate a new algebra-based approach of finding Grassmannian formulas for scattering amplitudes. Our prime motivation is massive amplitudes of 4D $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM, and therefore we consider a 6D Grassmannian formula, where we can take advantage of massless kinematics. We next use symmetry arguments, and in particular, 6D dual conformal symmetry generalized to arbitrary dual conformal weights. Assuming a rational ansatz in terms of Plücker coordinates (i.e. minors) for the integrand, this approach leads to a set of algebraic equations. As an example, we explicitly find the solution fo…
We revisit the construction of the 2d conformal blocks of primary operator four-point functions as bilocal vertex operator correlators. We find an additional interpretation as a path integral over the reparametrizations of an intermediate cylinder. As a consequence we bridge the gap between the Kähler quantization of virasoro coadjoint orbits, $SL(2,\mathbb{R})$ Chern-Simons theory and the reparametrization formalism of 2d CFT that has made an appearance in recent literature.
We study scattering amplitudes in the shadow conformal primary basis, which satisfies the same defining properties as the original conformal primary basis and has many advantages over it. The shadow celestial amplitudes exhibit locality manifestly on the celestial sphere, and behave like correlation functions in conformal field theory under the operator product expansion (OPE) limit. We study the OPE limits for three-point shadow celestial amplitude, and general $2\to n-2$ shadow celestial amplitudes from a large class of Feynman diagrams. In particular, we compute the conformal block expansio…
The extended BMS algebra contains a conformal subgroup that acts on the celestial sphere as SO(3,1). It is of interest to perform mode expansions of free fields in Minkowski spacetime that realize this symmetry in a simple way. In the present work we perform such a mode expansion for massive scalar fields using the unitary principal series representations of SO(3,1) with a view to developing a holographic approach to gravity in asymptotically flat spacetime. These mode expansions are also of use in studying holography in three-dimensional de Sitter spacetime.
We discuss the properties of recently constructed "single-valued" celestial four-gluon amplitudes. We show that the amplitude factorizes into the "current" part and the "scalar" part. The current factor is given by the group-dependent part of the Wess-Zumino-Witten correlator of four holomorphic currents with a non-vanishing level of Kač-Moody algebra. The scalar factor can be expressed in terms of a complex integral of the Koba-Nielsen form, similar to the integrals describing four-point correlators in Coulomb gas models and, more generally, in the infinite central charge limit of Liouville t…
In a recent paper, here referred to as part I, we considered the celestial four-gluon amplitude with one gluon represented by the shadow transform of the corresponding primary field operator. This correlator is ill-defined because it contains branch points related to the presence of conformal blocks with complex spin. In this work, we adopt a procedure similar to minimal models and construct a single-valued completion of the shadow correlator, in the limit when the shadow is "soft." By following the approach of Dotsenko and Fateev, we obtain an integral representation of such a single-valued c…
The 4D 4-point scattering amplitude of massless scalars via a massive exchange is expressed in a basis of conformal primary particle wavefunctions. This celestial amplitude is expanded in a basis of 2D conformal partial waves on the unitary principal series, and then rewritten as a sum over 2D conformal blocks via contour deformation. The conformal blocks include intermediate exchanges of spinning light-ray states, as well as scalar states with positive integer conformal weights. The conformal block prefactors are found as expected to be quadratic in the celestial OPE coefficients.
Off-shell celestial amplitudes with both time-like and space-like external legs are defined. The Feynman rules for scalar amplitudes, viewed as a set of recursion relations for off-shell momentum space amplitudes, are transformed to the celestial sphere using the split representation. For four-point celestial amplitudes, the Feynman expansion is shown to be equivalent to a conformal partial wave decomposition, providing an interpretation of conformal partial wave expansion coefficients as integrals over off-shell three-point structures. A conformal partial wave decomposition for a simple four-…
In celestial conformal field theory, gluons are represented by primary fields with dimensions $Δ=1+iλ$, $λ\in\mathbb{R}$ and spin $J=\pm 1$, in the adjoint representation of the gauge group. All two- and three-point correlation functions of these fields are zero as a consequence of four-dimensional kinematic constraints. Four-point correlation functions contain delta-function singularities enforcing planarity of four-particle scattering events. We relax these constraints by taking a shadow transform of one field and perform conformal block decomposition of the corresponding correlators. We com…
