Let $R$ a commutative ring, $\mathfrak{a} \subset R$ an ideal, $I$ an injective $R$-module and $S \subset R$ a multiplicatively closed set. When $R$ is Noetherian it is well-known that the $\mathfrak{a}$-torsion sub-module $Γ_{\mathfrak{a}}(I)$, the factor module $I/Γ_{\mathfrak{a}}(I)$ and the localization $I_S$ are again injective $R$-modules. We investigate these properties in the case of a commutative ring $R$ by means of a notion of relatively-$\mathfrak{a}$-injective $R$-modules. In particular we get another characterization of weakly pro-regular sequences in terms of relatively injective modules. Also we present examples of non-Noetherian commutative rings $R$ and injective $R$-modules for which the previous properties do not hold. Moreover, under some weak pro-regularity conditions we obtain results of Mayer-Vietoris type.
A commutative ring is said to have ITI with respect to an ideal a if the a-torsion functor preserves injectivity of modules. Classes of rings with ITI or without ITI with respect to certain sets of ideals are identified. Behaviour of ITI under formation of rings of fractions, tensor products and idealisation is studied. Applications to local cohomology over non-noetherian rings are given.
Let $R$ be a Gorenstein local ring, $\frak{a}$ an ideal in $R$, and $M$ an $R$-module. The local cohomology of $M$ supported at $\frak{a}$ can be computed by applying the $\frak{a}$-torsion functor to an injective resolution of $M$. Since $R$ is Gorenstein, $M$ has a complete injective resolution, so it is natural to ask what one gets by applying the $\frak{a}$-torsion functor to it. Following this lead, we define stable local cohomology for modules with complete injective resolutions. This gives a functor to the stable category of Gorenstein injective modules. We show that in many ways this b…
Let $R$ be a Noetherian ring and let $C$ be a semidualizing $R$-module. In this paper, we are concerned with the tensor and torsion product of $C$-injective modules. Firstly, it is shown that the tensor product of any two $C$-injective $R$-modules is $C$-injective if and only if the injective hull of $C$ is $C$-flat. Secondly, it is proved that $C$ is a pointwise dualizing $R$-module if and only if $Tor^R_i(M,N)$ is $C$-injective for all $C$-injective $R$-modules $M$ and $N$, and all $ i \geq 0$. These results recover the celebrated theorems of Enochs and Jenda \cite{EJ2}.
Over a noetherian ring, it is a classic result of Matlis that injective modules admit direct sum decompositions into injective hulls of quotients by prime ideals. We show that over a Cohen-Macaulay ring admitting a dualizing module, Gorenstein injective modules admit similar filtrations. We also investigate Tor-modules of Gorenstein injective modules over such rings. This extends work of Enochs and Huang over Gorenstein rings. Furthermore, we give examples showing the following: (1) the class of Gorenstein injective $R$-modules need not be closed under tensor products, even when $R$ is local a…
Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian ring of Krull dimension $d$ admitting a dualizing complex $D$ and let $\frak a$ be any ideal of $R$, we prove that $Γ_{\frak a}(G)$ is Gorenstein injective for any Gorenstein injective $R$-module $G$. Let $(R,\frak m)$ be a local ring and $M$ be a finitely generated $R$-module. We show that ${\rm Gid}{\bf R}Γ_{\frak m}(M)<\infty$ if and only if ${\rm Gid}_{\hat{R}}(M\otimes_R\hat{R})<\infty$. We also show that if ${\rm Gfd}_R{\bf R}Γ_{\frak m}(M)<\infty$, then ${\rm Gfd}_RM<\infty$. Let $(R,\frak m)$ be a Cohen-Macaulay local ring and $M$ be a Cohen-Macaulay…

Let $(R, \mathfrak{m})$ be a commutative Noetherian local ring with total quotient ring $K$. An $R$-module $M$ is called simple divisible, if $M$ is divisible $\neq 0$, but every proper submodule $0 \neq U \subsetneqq M$ is not divisible. Dually, $M$ is called simple torsion free, if $M$ ist torsion free $\neq 0$, but, for every proper submodule $0 \neq U \subsetneqq M$, the factor module $M/U$ is not torsion free. Our first result is that $M \neq 0$ is simple torsion free iff $M$ is a submodule of $κ(\mathfrak{p}) = R_{\mathfrak{p}}/\mathfrak{p} R_{\mathfrak{p}}$ for a maximal element $\mathf…
Let $A$ be a commutative noetherian ring, let $\mathfrak{a}\subseteq A$ be an ideal, and let $I$ be an injective $A$-module. A basic result in the structure theory of injective modules states that the $A$-module $Γ_{\mathfrak{a}}(I)$ consisting of $\mathfrak{a}$-torsion elements is also an injective $A$-module. Recently, de Jong proved a dual result: If $F$ is a flat $A$-module, then the $\mathfrak{a}$-adic completion of $F$ is also a flat $A$-module. In this paper we generalize these facts to commutative noetherian DG-rings: let $A$ be a commutative non-positive DG-ring such that $\mathrm{H}^…
A complex $X$ is called Ding injective if there exists an exact sequence of injective complexes $\ldots \rightarrow E_1 \rightarrow E_0 \rightarrow E_{-1} \rightarrow \ldots$ such that $X = Ker(E_0 \rightarrow E_{-1})$, and the sequence remains exact when the functor $Hom(A,-)$ is applied to it, for any $FP$-injective complex $A$. We prove that, over any ring $R$, a complex is Ding injective if and only if it is a complex of Ding injective modules. We use this to show that the class of Ding injective complexes is enveloping over any ring.
In this paper, we study a particular case of Gorenstein projective, injective, and flat modules, which we call, respectively, strongly Gorenstein projective, injective, and flat modules. These last three modules give us a new characterization of the first modules, and confirm that there is an analogy between the notion of Gorenstein projective, injective, and flat modules and the notion of the usual projective, injective, and flat modules.
We investigate commutative Noetherian rings of prime characteristic such that the Frobenius functor applied to any injective module is again injective. We characterize the class of one-dimensional local rings with this property and show that it includes all one-dimensional F-pure rings.
Let R be a commutative Noetherian ring and A an Artinian R-module. We prove that if A has finite Gorenstein injective dimension, then A possesses a Gorenstein injective envelope which is special and Artinian. This, in particular, yields that over a Gorenstein ring any Artinian module possesses a Gorenstein injective envelope which is special and Artinian.
We introduce and investigate a new injective version of the complete intersection dimension of Avramov, Gasharov, and Peeva. It is like the complete intersection injective dimension of Sahandi, Sharif, and Yassemi in that it is built using quasi-deformations. Ours is different, however, in that we use a Hom functor in place of a tensor product. We show that (a) this invariant characterizes the complete intersection property for local rings, (b) it fits between the classical injective dimension and the G-injective dimension of Enochs and Jenda, (c) it provides modules with Bass numbers that are…
In two recent papers, the author has developed a theory of graded annihilators of left modules over the Frobenius skew polynomial ring over a commutative Noetherian ring $R$ of prime characteristic $p$, and has shown that this theory is relevant to the theory of test elements in tight closure theory. One result of that work was that, if $R$ is local and the $R$-module structure on the injective envelope $E$ of the simple $R$-module can be extended to a structure as a torsion-free left module over the Frobenius skew polynomial ring, then $R$ is $F$-pure and has a tight closure test element. One…
This paper generalize the idea of the authors in \cite{Bennis and Mahdou1}. Namely, we define and study a particular case of modules with Gorenstein projective, injective, and flat dimension less or equal than $n\geq 0$, which we call, respectively, strongly n-Gorenstein projective, injective and flat modules. These three classes of modules give us a new characterization of the first modules, and they are a generalization of the notions of strongly Gorenstein projective, injective, and flat modules respectively.
Let $(R,\frak m)$ be a commutative Noetherian local ring and let $M$ and $N$ be finitely generated $R$-modules of finite injective dimension and finite Gorenstein injective dimension, respectively. In this paper we prove a generalization of Ischebeck Formula, that is $\depth_RM+\sup\{i| {0.1cm}\Ext_R^i(M,N)\neq 0\}=\depth R.$
We give a sufficient condition for the class of Gorenstein injective modules be precovering: if $R$ is right noetherian and if the class of Gorenstein injective modules, $\mathcal{GI}$, is closed under filtrations, then $\mathcal{GI}$ is precovering in $R-Mod$. The converse is also true when we assume that $\mathcal{GI}$ is covering. We extend our results to the category of complexes. We prove that if the class of Gorenstein injective modules is closed under filtrations then the class of Gorenstein injective complexes is precovering in $Ch(R)$. We also give a sufficient condition for the exist…
Let R be a ring. In this paper, Gorenstein (n,d)-flat and (n,d)-Gorenstein (n,d)-injective modules and some of their basic properties are studied. Moreover, some characterizations of rings over Gorenstein (n,d)-flat and (n,d)-Gorenstein (n,d)-injective modules are given. Also, some known results can be obtained as corollaries
It is proven that the weak dimension of each FP-injective module over a chain ring which is either Archimedean or not semicoherent is less or equal to 2.
We study modules for the divided power algebra $D$ in a single variable over a commutative noetherian ring $k$. Our first result states that $D$ is a coherent ring. In fact, we show that there is a theory of Gröbner bases for finitely generated ideals, and so computations with finitely presented $D$-modules are in principle algorithmic. We go on to determine much about the structure of finitely presented $D$-modules, such as: existence of certain nice resolutions, computation of the Grothendieck group, results about injective dimension, and how they interact with torsion modules. Our results a…
Let R be a ring, X a class of R-modules and n>1 an integer. In this paper, via special finitely presented modules, we introduce the concepts of Gorenstein n-X-injective and n-X-flat modules. And aside, we obtain some equivalent properties of these modules on n-X-coherent rings. Then, we investigate the relations among Gorenstein n-X-injective, n-X-flat, injective and flat modules on X-FC-rings (i.e., self n-X-injective and n-X-coherent rings). Several known results are generalized to this new context
Let $\text{Red}(M)$ be the sum of all reduced submodules of a module $M$. For modules over commutative rings, $\text{Soc}(M)\subseteq \text{Red}(M)$. By drawing motivation from how $\text{Soc}$-injective modules were defined by Amin et. al. in \cite{amin2005}, we introduce $\text{Red}$-injective modules, study their properties and use them to characterize quasi-Frobenius rings and $V$-rings.
It is well-known that a class of all modules, which are torsion-free with respect to a set of ideals, is closed under injective envelopes. In this paper, we consider a kind of a dual to this statement - are the divisibility classes closed under flat covers? - and argue that this is seldom the case. More precisely, we show that the class of all divisible modules over an integral domain R is closed under flat covers if and only if R is almost perfect. Also, we show that if the class of all s-divisible modules, where s is a regular element of a commutative ring R, is closed under flat covers then…
Let $R$ be a ring, and $n$ a fixed nonnegative integer. An $R$-module $W$ is called $L_{n}$-injective if ${\rm Ext}_{R}^{1}(M,W)=0$ for any $R$-module $M$ with flat dimension at most $n$. In this paper, we prove first that ($\mathcal{F}_{n},\mathcal{L}_{n}$) is a complete hereditary cotorsion theory, where $\mathcal{F}_n$ (resp. $\mathcal{L}_n$) denotes the class of all $R$-modules with flat dimension at most $n$ (resp. $L_{n}$-injective $R$-modules). Then we introduce the $L_{n}$-injective dimension of a module and $L_n$-global dimension of a ring. Finally, over rings with weak global dimensi…
It is shown that a ring is left semihereditary if and only each homomorphic image of its injective hull as left module is FP-injective. It is also proven that a commutative ring R is reduced and arithmetical if and only if E/U if FP-injective for any FP-injective R-module E and for any submodule U of finite Goldie dimension. A characterization of commutative rings for which each module of finite Goldie dimension is of injective dimension at most one is given. Let R be a chain ring and Z its subset of zerodivisors. It is proven that E/U is FP-injective for each FP-injective R-module E and each …
We prove that the class of Gorenstein injective modules is both enveloping and covering over a two sided noetherian ring such that the character modules of Gorenstein injective modules are Gorenstein flat. In the second part of the paper we consider the connection between the Gorenstein injective modules and the strongly cotorsion modules. We prove that when the ring R is commutative noetherian of finite Krull dimension, the class of Gorenstein injective modules coincides with that of strongly cotorsion modules if and only if the ring R is in fact Gorenstein.
Following the well-established terminology in commutative algebra, any (not necessarily commutative) finite-dimensional local algebra $A$ with radical $J$ will be said to be short provided $J^3 = 0$. As in the commutative case, we show: if a short local algebra $A$ has an indecomposable non-projective Gorenstein-projective module $M$, then either $A$ is self-injective (so that all modules are Gorenstein-projective) and then $|J^2| \le 1$, or else $|J^2| = |J/J^2| - 1$ and $|JM| = |J^2||M/JM|$. More generally, we focus the attention to semi-Gorenstein-projective and $\infty$-torsionfree modules…
The principle "Every result in classical homological algebra should have a counterpart in Gorenstein homological algebra" is given in [3]. There is a remarkable body of evidence supporting this claim (cf. [2] and [3]). Perhaps one of the most glaring exceptions is provided by the fact that tensor products of Gorenstein projective modules need not be Gorenstein projective, even over Gorenstein rings. So perhaps it is surprising that tensor products of Gorenstein injective modules over Gorenstein rings of finite Krull dimension are Gorenstein injective. Our main result is in support of the princ…
