Attack the ping-pong protocol without eavesdropping.
We suggest an attack on a symmetric non-ideal quantum coin-tossing protocol suggested by Mayers Salvail and Chiba-Kohno. The analysis of the attack shows that the protocol is insecure.
We discuss the robustness of two-way quantum communication protocols against Trojan horse attack and introduce a novel attack, delay-photon Trojan horse attack. Moreover, we present a practical way for two-way quantum communication protocols to prevent the eavesdropper from stealing the information transmitted with Trojan horse attacks. It means that two-way quantum communication protocols is also secure in a practical application.
We propose a double blinding-attack on entangled-based quantum key distribution protocols. The principle of the attack is the same as in existing blinding attack except that instead of blinding the detectors on one side only, Eve is blinding the detectors of both Alice and Bob. In the BBM92 protocol, the attack allows Eve to get a full knowledge of the key and remain undetected even if Alice and Bob are using 100% efficient detectors. We show that the revised KKKP protocol proposed by Kye and Kim [Phys. Rev. Lett. 95,040501(2005)] is still insecure with coherent states by a type of beamsplitting attack. We then further revise the KKKP protocol so that it is secure under such type of beamsplitting attack. The revised scheme can be used for not-so-weak coherent state quantum key distribution.

The differential phase shift quantum key distribution protocol is of high interest due to its relatively simple practical implementation. This protocol uses trains of coherent pulses and allows the legitimate users to resist individual attacks. In this paper, a new attack on this protocol is proposed which is based on the idea of information extraction from the part of each coherent state and then making decision about blocking the rest part depending on the amount of extracted information.

We develop a new method to quantify the secret key rate for permutation-invariant protocols for coherent attacks and finite resources. The method reduces the calculation of secret key rates for coherent attacks to the calculation for collective attacks by bounding the smooth min-entropy of permutation-invariant states via the smooth min-entropy of corresponding tensor-product states. In this paper we review and comment on "A novel protocol-authentication algorithm ruling out a man-in-the-middle attack in quantum cryptography", [M. Peev et al., Int. J. Quant. Inform., 3, 225, (2005)]. In particular, we point out that the proposed primitive is not secure when used in a generic protocol, and needs additional authenticating properties of the surrounding quantum-cryptographic protocol.

We propose a new kind of individual attack, based on randomly selected dissipation, on Bennett-Brassard 1984 protocol of practical quantum key distribution (QKD) system with lossy and noisy quantum channel. Since an adversary with super quantum channel can disguise loss and errors induced by his attack as that of the system, he can obtain innegligible amount of information for a practical QKD system, without being detected by legal participants.

We investigate limitations imposed by sequential attacks on the performance of differential-phase-shift quantum key distribution protocols that use pulsed coherent light. In particular, we analyze two sequential attacks based on unambiguous state discrimination and minimum error discrimination, respectively, of the signal states emitted by the source. This is a study of the security of the Coherent One-Way (COW) protocol for quantum cryptography, proposed recently as a simple and fast experimental scheme. In the zero-error regime, the eavesdropper Eve can only take advantage of the losses in the transmission. We consider new attacks, based on unambiguous state discrimination, which perform better than the basic beam-splitting attack, but which can be detected by a careful analysis of the detection statistics. These results stress the importance of testing several statistical parameters in order to achieve higher rates of secret bits.
We calculate eavesdropper's optimal information on raw bits in Bennett-Brassard 1984 quantum key distribution (BB84 QKD) and six-state scheme in coherent attacks, using a formula by Lo and Chau [Science 283 (1999) 2050] with single photon assumption. We find that eavesdropper's optimal information in QKD without public announcement of bases [Phys. Lett. A 244 (1998) 489] is the same as that of a corresponding QKD WITH it in the coherent attack. In this work we review the security vulnerability of Quantum Cryptography with respect to "man-in-the-middle attacks" and the standard authentication methods applied to counteract these attacks. In this paper we investigate limits to error rate and signal losses that can be tolerated by future protocols and proofs.
We show that when the speed of control is bounded, there is a widely applicable minimal-time control problem for which a coherent feedback protocol is optimal, and is faster than all measurement-based feedback protocols, where the latter are defined in a strict sense. We propose a framework of bit commitment protocol using a comparison scheme and present a compound comparison scheme based on counterfactual cryptography. Finally, we propose a counterfactual quantum bit commitment protocol. In security analysis, we give the proper security parameters for counterfactual quantum bit commitment and prove that intercept attack and intercept/resend attack are ineffective attack for our protocol.
