The photonuclear reactions which is induced by high-energetic photon are one of the important type of reactions in the nuclear structure studies. In this reaction, a target material is bombarded by photons with the energies in the range of gamma-ray energy scale and the photons can statistically be absorbed by a nucleus in the target material. In order to get rid of the excess energies of the excited target nuclei, it can first emit protons, neutrons, alphas and light particles according to the separation energy thresholds. After this emitting process, generally an unstable nucleus can be formed. By the investigation of this products forming after photonuclear reactions, nuclear structure information can be obtained. In the present work, (γ, n) photonuclear reaction cross-sections on stable p-shell nuclei have been estimated by using neural network method. The main purpose of this study is to find neural network structures that give the best estimations on the cross-sections and to compare them with each other and available literature data. According to the results, the method is convenient for this task.
We present for the first-time the photonuclear cross section of $^{10}$B calculated within the ab-initio No Core Shell Model framework. Realistic two-nucleon (NN) chiral forces up to next-to-next-to-next-order (N3LO), which have been softened by the similarity renormalization group method (SRG) to $λ=2.02$ fm$^{-1}$, were utilized. The electric-dipole response function is calculated using the Lanczos method. The effects of the continuum were accounted for by including neutron escape widths derived from R-matrix theory. The calculated cross section agrees well with experimental data in terms of…
A model for the description of photonuclear reactions in the multi-GeV range is described that combines the coherent initial state interactions (shadowing) of the incoming photon with an incoherent coupled channel description of final state interactons of outgoing particles. Particle production itself is treated either, at low energies, through nucleon resonance decays or, at higher energies, through string fragmentation. The initial state nucleons can be far-off-shell due to ground state correlations. Results are shown for semi-inclusive meson production.
The photonuclear reactions 16O(gamma,n)15O and 16O(gamma,p)15N are simultaneously described within a coupled channels framework based on a continuum shell model formulation. The inclusion of Delta(1232) isobar degrees of freedom improves the description of the available data, however, complete quantitative agreement is still lacking.
Previous studies of proton and neutron spectra from Non-Mesonic Weak Decay of eight Lambda-Hypernuclei (A = 5-16) have been revisited. New values of the ratio of the two-nucleon and the one-proton induced decay widths, Gamma_2N/Gamma_p, are obtained from single proton spectra, Gamma_2N/Gamma_p = 0.50 +/- 0.24, and from neutron and proton coincidence spectra, Gamma_2N/Gamma_p = 0.36 +/- 0.14stat +0.05sys -0.04sys , in full agreement with previously published ones. With these values, a method is developed to extract the one-proton induced decay width in units of the free Lambda decay width, Gamm…
A recapitulatory analysis of total nuclear cross sections of various nuclei is presented, which yields detailed knowledge on the different physical processes such as potential/resonance scatter and nuclear reactions. The physical base for potential/resonance scatter and the threshold energy resulting from Coulomb repulsion of nuclei are collective/oscillator models. The part pertaining to the nuclear reactions can only be determined by the microscopic theory (Schrödinger equation and strong interactions). The physical impact is the fluence decrease of proton beams in different media and the sc…
Quasi-elastic (QEL) scattering measurements have been performed using $^{28}$Si projectile off a $^{90}$Zr target at energies around the Coulomb barrier. A Bayesian analysis within the framework of coupled channels (CC) calculations is performed in a large parameter space of quadrupole and hexadecapole deformations ($β_{2}$ and $β_{4}$) of $^{28}$Si. Our results clearly show that $^{28}$Si is an oblate shaped nucleus with $β_{2}$=-$0.38 \pm 0.01$ which is in excellent agreement with electromagnetic probes. A precise value of hexadecapole deformation for $^{28}$Si, $β_{4}$=+$0.03 \pm 0.01$, alo…
We develop a fully relativistic DWIA model for photonuclear reactions using the relativistic mean field theory for the bound state and the Pauli reduction of the scattering state which is calculated from a relativistic optical potential. Results for the 12C(gamma,p) and 16O(gamma,p) differential cross sections and photon asymmetries are displayed in a photon energy range between 60 and 257 MeV, and compared with nonrelativistic DWIA calculations. The effects of the spinor distortion and of the effective momentum approximation for the scattering state are discussed. The sensitivity of the model…
It is shown how the recent shell-model determination of Lambda-N spin dependent interaction terms in Lambda hypernuclei allows for a reliable deduction of Lambda-Lambda separation energies in Lambda-Lambda hypernuclei across the nuclear p shell. Comparison is made with the available data, highlighting 11(Lambda-Lambda)Be and 12(Lambda-Lambda)Be which have been suggested as possible candidates for the KEK-E373 Hida event.

Nuclei exhibit both single-particle and collective degrees of freedom, with the latter often subdivided into vibrational and rotational motions. Experimentally identifying the relative roles of these collective modes is extremely challenging, particularly in the face of possible shape coexistence. Model-independent, invariant quantities describing the deformation of a nucleus in the intrinsic frame have long been known but their determination potentially requires a large quantity of experimental data to achieve convergence. Through comparison with the nuclear shell model, the question of conve…

Photodisintegration reaction rates involving charged particles are of relevance to the p-process nucleosynthesis that aims at explaining the production of the stable neutron-deficient nuclides heavier than iron. In this study, the cross sections and astrophysical rates of (g,p) and (g,a) reactions for about 3000 target nuclei with 10<Z<100 ranging from stable to proton dripline nuclei are computed. To study the sensitivity of the calculations to the optical model potentials (OMPs), both the phenomenological Woods-Saxon and the microscopic folding OMPs are taken into account. The systematic com…
Electron capture and beta-decay rates on nuclei in the mass range A=45-65 play an important role in many astrophysical environments. The determination of these rates by large-scale shell model calculations is desirable, but it requires to reproduce the Gamow-Teller strength distributions and spectra of the pf shell nuclei. We show in this paper that large-scale shell model calculations, employing a slightly monopole-corrected version of the wellknown KB3 interaction, fulfill these necessary requirements. In particular, our calculations reproduce the experimentally available GT+ and GT- strengt…
Topics related to the construction, phenomenological determination, and effects of the effective three-body forces within the traditional nuclear shell model approach are discussed. The manifestations of the three-body forces in realistic nuclei in the 0f7/2 and 1s0d shell model valence spaces are explored.
The information on pygmy resonances reveals new aspects on the isospin dynamics of the nucleus with important astrophysical consequences. In this connection, the precise knowledge of nuclear response functions plays a key role in the determination of photonuclear reactions cross sections which are of importance for the synthesis of heavy neutron-rich elements. For that purpose, a theoretical method based on density functional theory and multi-phonon approach is applied for investigations of nuclear excitations with different multipolarities and energies in stable and exotic nuclei. The possibl…
Nuclear fission is still one of the most complex physical processes we can observe in nature due to the interplay of macroscopic and microscopic nuclear properties that decide the result. An example of this coupling is the presence of nuclear dissipation as an important ingredient that contributes to drive the dynamics and has a clear impact on the time of the process. However, different theoretical interpretations, and scarce experimental data make it poorly understood. In this letter, we present the first experimental determination of the dissipation energy in fission as a function of the fr…
Existing cross-section data for 1p-shell knockout in the reaction 12C(e,e'p) - as obtained under different kinematic conditions - are shown to be mutually consistent, apart from a recent measurement performed in Mainz. New data have been collected at the Amsterdam Pulse Stretcher that confirm the normalization of the older measurements. An analysis of the world's 12C(e,e'p) data has yielded precise values of the spectroscopic factor for 1p-shell and 1s-shell knockout from 12C. These values have been used to evaluate the transparency of the 12C nucleus for 1p-shell and 1s-shell protons separate…

With the development of radioactive beam facilities, studies concerning the shell evolution of unstable nuclei have recently gained prominence. Intruder components, particularly s-wave intrusion, in the low-lying states of light neutron-rich nuclei near N=8 are of importance in the study of shell evolution. The use of single-nucleon transfer reactions in inverse kinematics has been a sensitive tool that can be used to quantitatively investigate the single-particle orbital component of selectively populated states. The spin-parity, spectroscopic factor (or single-particle strength), and effecti…
The first excited 2+ energy states of nuclei give many substantial information related to the nuclear structure. Including these levels, all excited states of nuclei are shown regularities in spin, parity and energy. In the even-even nuclei, the first excited state is generally 2+ and the energy values of them increase as the closed shells are approached. The excited levels in nuclei can be investigated by using theoretical nuclear models such nuclear shell model. In the present study for the first time, we have used artificial neural networks for the determination of the energies of first 2+ …
The dynamical symmetries of the Fermion Dynamical Symmetry Model are used as a principle of truncation for the spherical shell model. Utilizing the usual principle of energy-dictated truncation to select a valence space, and symmetry-dictated truncation to select a collective subspace of that valence space, we are able to reduce the full shell model space to one of manageable dimensions with modern supercomputers, even for the heaviest nuclei. The resulting shell model then consists of diagonalizing an effective Hamiltonian within the restricted subspace. This theory is not confined to any sym…
We present a detailed study of nuclear corrections in the deuteron (D) by performing an analysis of data from deep inelastic scattering off proton and D, dilepton pair production in $pp$ and pD interactions, and W^+- and Z boson production in pp and p pbar collisions. In particular, we discuss the determination of the off-shell function describing the modification of the parton distribution functions in bound nucleons in the context of global QCD fits. Our results are consistent with the ones obtained independently from the study of deep inelastic scattering data off heavy nuclei with $A\geq4$…
The structure of $^6$Li, $^7$Li and $^{11}$Li nuclei is investigated in a model space which includes all configurations with oscillator energy up to $3\hbarω$ above the ground state configuration. The energy spectra and electromagnetic properties of the low-lying states are determined with various two-body interactions, which are derived from the Bonn potential. The results of these shell-model calculations depend on the strength of the tensor component contained in the NN interaction and also on the treatment of the Dirac spinors for the nucleons in the nuclear medium. In addition the calcula…
The evolution of the N=50 gap is analyzed as a function of the occupation of the proton f5/2 and p3/2 orbits. It is based on experimental atomic masses, using three different methods of one or two-neutron separation energies of ground or isomeric states. We show that the effect of correlations, which is maximized at Z=32 could be misleading with respect to the determination of the size of the shell gap, especially when using the method with two-neutron separation energies. From the methods that are the least perturbed by correlations, we estimate the N=50 spherical shell gap in 78Ni. Whether 7…
The effect of an octupole term in a quadrupole deformed single particle potential is studied from the classical and quantum mechanical view point. Whereas the problem is nonintegrable, the quantum mechanical spectrum nevertheless shows some shell structure in the superdeformed prolate case for particular, yet fairly large octupole strengths; for spherical or oblate deformation the shell structure disappears. This result is associated with classical periodic orbits which are found by employing the removal of resonances method; this approximation method allows determination of the shape of the o…
We apply a spin-projection method to calculate microscopically the level densities of a family of nickel isotopes $^{59-64}$Ni using the shell model Monte Carlo approach in the complete $pfg_{9/2}$ shell. Accurate ground-state energies of the odd-mass nickel isotopes, required for the determination of excitation energies, are determined using the Green's function method recently introduced to circumvent the odd particle-number sign problem. Our results are in excellent agreement with recent measurements based on proton evaporation spectra and with level counting data at low excitation energies…
We report a direct measurement of the Q-value of the neutrinoless double-beta-decay candidate 48Ca at the TITAN Penning-trap mass spectrometer, with the result that Q = 4267.98(32) keV. We measured the masses of both the mother and daughter nuclides, and in the latter case found a 1 keV deviation from the literature value. In addition to the Q-value, we also present results of a new calculation of the neutrinoless double-beta-decay nuclear matrix element of 48Ca. Using diagrammatic many-body perturbation theory to second order to account for physics outside the valence space, we constructed an…
Chiral effective lagrangians may differ in their prediction of meson-nucleon scattering amplitudes off-meson-mass-shell, but must yield identical S-matrix elements. We argue that the effective meson mass in nuclear matter obtained from chiral effective lagrangians is also unique. Off-mass-shell amplitudes obtained using the PCAC choice of pion field must therefore not be viewed as fundamental constraints on the dynamics, the determination of the effective meson mass in nuclear matter or the possible existence of meson condensates in the ground state of nuclear matter. This hypothesis is borne …
Shell corrections are important in the determination of nuclear ground-state masses and shapes. Although general arguments favor a regular single-particle dynamics, symmetry-breaking and the presence of chaotic layers cannot be excluded. The latter provide a natural framework that explains the observed differences between experimental and computed masses.
Proton threshold states in 23Mg are important for the astrophysically relevant proton capture reaction 22Na(p,gamma)23Mg. In the indirect determination of the resonance strength of the lowest states, which were not accessible by direct methods, some of the spin-parity assignments remained experimentally uncertain. We have investigated these states with Shell Model, Coulomb displacement, and Thomas-Ehrman shift calculations. From the comparison of calculated and observed properties we relate the lowest relevant resonance state at E=7643 keV to an excited 3/2+ state in accordance with a recent e…
The calculated nuclear matrix elements for the neutrinoless double-beta ($0νββ$) decay suffer from several limitations. Predicted matrix-element values depend on the many-body method used to calculate them and, in addition, they may need to be "quenched", albeit by an unknown amount due to the relatively high momentum transferred in the decay. These uncertainties are hard to figure out from theoretical calculations alone because of the unique character of $0νββ$ decay, not clearly related to other nuclear structure observables. We present recent progress in the determination of the nuclear mat…
