${\mathbb Z}_2\times {\mathbb Z}_2$-graded mechanics admits four types of particles: ordinary bosons, two classes of fermions (fermions belonging to different classes commute among each other) and exotic bosons. In this paper we construct the basic ${\mathbb Z}_2\times {\mathbb Z}_2$-graded worldline multiplets (extending the cases of one-dimensional supersymmetry) and compute, based on a general scheme, their invariant classical actions and worldline sigma-models. The four basic multiplets contain two bosons and two fermions. They are $(2,2,0)$, with two propagating bosons and two propagating fermions, $(1,2,1)_{[00]}$ (the ordinary boson is propagating, while the exotic boson is an auxiliary field), $(1,2,1)_{[11]}$ (the converse case, the exotic boson is propagating, while the ordinary boson is an auxiliary field) and, finally, $(0,2,2)$ with two bosonic auxiliary fields. Classical actions invariant under the ${\mathbb Z}_2\times {\mathbb Z}_2$-graded superalgebra are constructed for both single multiplets and interacting multiplets. Furthermore, scale-invariant actions can possess a full ${\mathbb Z}_2\times {\mathbb Z}_2$-graded conformal invariance spanned by $10$ generators and containing an $sl(2)$ subalgebra.
In the recent paper, Bruce and Duplij introduced a double-graded version of supersymmetric quantum mechanics (SQM). It is an extension of Lie superalgebraic nature of ${\cal N}=1$ SQM to a $\mathbb{Z}_2^2$-graded superalgebra. In this work, we propose an extension of Bruce-Duplij model to higher values of $\cal N.$ Furthermore, it is shown that our construction of double-graded SQM is a special case of the method which converts a given Lie superalgebra to a $\mathbb{Z}_2^2$-graded superalgebra. By employing this method one may convert a model of superconformal mechanics to its double-graded ve…
This paper presents the classification, over the fields of real and complex numbers, of the minimal ${\mathbb Z}_2\times{\mathbb Z}_2$-graded Lie algebras and Lie superalgebras spanned by $4$ generators and with no empty graded sector. The inequivalent graded Lie (super)algebras are obtained by solving the constraints imposed by the respective graded Jacobi identities. A motivation for this mathematical result is to systematically investigate the properties of dynamical systems invariant under graded (super)algebras. Recent works only paid attention to the special case of the one-dimensional $…
In the previous paper arXiv:2003.06470 we introduced the notion of ${\mathbb Z}_2\times{\mathbb Z}_2$-graded classical mechanics and presented a general framework to construct, in the Lagrangian setting, the worldline sigma models invariant under a ${\mathbb Z}_2\times{\mathbb Z}_2$-graded superalgebra. In this work we discuss at first the classical Hamiltonian formulation of some of these models and later present their canonical quantization. As the simplest application of the construction we recover the ${\mathbb Z}_2\times{\mathbb Z}_2$-graded quantum Hamiltonian introduced by Bruce and Dup…
It is shown that the ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric quantum mechanics (SQM) can be extended to a $\mathbb{Z}_2^n$-graded superalgebra. This is done by presenting quantum mechanical models which realize, with the aid of Clifford gamma matrices, the $\mathbb{Z}_2^n$-graded Poincaré algebra in one-dimensional spacetime. Reflecting the fact that the $\mathbb{Z}_2^n$-graded Poincaré algebra has a number of central elements, a sequence of models defining the $\mathbb{Z}_2^n$-graded version of SQM are provided for a given value of $n.$ In a model of the sequence, the central elements having the same $\m…
The recent surge of interest in ${\mathbb Z}_2\times {\mathbb Z}_2$-graded invariant mechanics poses the challenge of understanding the physical consequences of a ${\mathbb Z}_2\times{\mathbb Z}_2$-graded symmetry. In this paper it is shown that non-trivial physics can be detected in the multiparticle sector of a theory, being induced by the ${\mathbb Z}_2\times{\mathbb Z}_2$-graded parastatistics obeyed by the particles. The toy model of the ${\cal N}=4$ supersymmetric/ ${\mathbb Z}_2\times {\mathbb Z}_2$-graded oscillator is used. In this set-up the one-particle energy levels and their degen…
The superalgebra of $\Z_2^2$-graded supersymmetric quantum mechanics is shown to be realizable in terms of a single bosonic degree of freedom. Such an approach is directly inspired by a description of the corresponding $\Z_2$-graded superalgebra in the framework of a Calogero-Vasiliev algebra or, more generally, of a generalized deformed oscillator algebra. In the case of the $\Z_2^2$-graded superalgebra, the central element $Z$ has the property of distinguishing between degenerate eigenstates of the Hamiltonian.
A quantum mechanical model that realizes the $ \mathbb{Z}_2 \times \mathbb{Z}_2$-graded generalization of the one-dimensional supertranslation algebra is proposed. This model shares some features with the well-known Witten model and is related to parasupersymmetric quantum mechanics, though the model is not directly equivalent to either of these. The purpose of this paper is to show that novel "higher gradings" are possible in the context of non-relativistic quantum mechanics.
We examine the question of the integrability of the recently defined $\mathbb{Z}_2\times \mathbb{Z}_2$-graded sine-Gordon model, which is a natural generalisation of the supersymmetric sine-Gordon equation. We do this via appropriate auto-Bäcklund transformations, construction of conserved spinor-valued currents and a pair of infinite sets of conservation laws.
We propose a natural $\mathbb{Z}_2 \times \mathbb{Z}_2$-graded generalisation of $d=2$, $\mathcal{N}=(1,1)$ supersymmetry and construct a $\mathbb{Z}_2^2$-space realisation thereof. Due to the grading, the supercharges close with respect to, in the classical language, a commutator rather than an anticommutator. This is then used to build classical (linear and non-linear) sigma models that exhibit this novel supersymmetry via mimicking standard superspace methods. The fields in our models are bosons, right-handed and left-handed Majorana-Weyl spinors, and exotic bosons. The bosons commute with …
The first-order differential Lévy-Leblond equations (LLE's) are the non-relativistic analogs of the Dirac equation, being square roots of ($1+d$)-dimensional Schrödinger or heat equations. Just like the Dirac equation, the LLE's possess a natural supersymmetry. In previous works it was shown that non supersymmetric PDE's (notably, the Schrödinger equations for free particles or in the presence of a harmonic potential), admit a natural ${\mathbb Z}_2$-graded Lie symmetry. In this paper we show that, for a certain class of supersymmetric PDE's, a natural ${\mathbb Z}_2\times{\mathbb Z}_2$-graded…
Galilean conformal algebras can be constructed by contracting a finite number of conformal algebras, and enjoy truncated $\mathbb{Z}$-graded structures. Here, we present a generalisation of the Galilean contraction procedure, giving rise to Galilean conformal algebras with truncated $\mathbb{Z}^{\otimesσ}$-gradings, $σ\in\mathbb{N}$. Detailed examples of these multi-graded Galilean algebras are provided, including extensions of the Galilean Virasoro and affine Kac-Moody algebras. We also derive the associated Sugawara constructions and discuss how these examples relate to multivariable extensi…
Using the Zhu algebra for a certain category of $\mathbb{C}$-graded vertex algebras $V$, we prove that if $V$ is finitely $Ω$-generated and satisfies suitable grading conditions, then $V$ is rational, i.e. has semi-simple representation theory, with one dimensional level zero Zhu algebra. Here $Ω$ denotes the vectors in $V$ that are annihilated by lowering the real part of the grading. We apply our result to the family of rank one Weyl vertex algebras with conformal element $ω_μ$ parameterized by $μ\in \mathbb{C}$, and prove that for certain non-integer values of $μ$, these vertex algebras, wh…
We extend the notion of super-Minkowski space-time to include $\mathbb{Z}_2^n$-graded (Majorana) spinor coordinates. Our choice of the grading leads to spinor coordinates that are nilpotent but commute amongst themselves. The mathematical framework we employ is the recently developed category of $\mathbb{Z}_2^n$-manifolds understood as locally ringed spaces. The formalism we present resembles $\mathcal{N}$-extended superspace (in the presence of central charges), but with some subtle differences due to the exotic nature of the grading employed.
This paper introduces the parastatistics induced by ${\mathbb Z}_2\times {\mathbb Z}_2$-graded algebras. It accommodates four kinds of particles: ordinary bosons and three types of parabosons which mutually anticommute when belonging to different type (so far, in the literature, only parastatistics induced by ${\mathbb Z}_2\times {\mathbb Z}_2$-graded superalgebras and producing parafermions have been considered). It is shown how to detect ${\mathbb Z}_2\times {\mathbb Z}_2$-graded parabosons in the multi-particle sector of a quantum model. The difference with respect to a system composed by o…
A $\mathbb{Z}_2 \times \mathbb{Z}_2$-graded generalisation of the quantum superplane is proposed and studied. We construct a bicovariant calculus on what we shall refer to as the \emph{double-graded quantum superplane}. The commutation rules between the coordinates, their differentials and partial derivatives are explicitly given. Furthermore, we show that an extended version of the double-graded quantum superplane admits a natural Hopf $\mathbb{Z}_2^2$-algebra structure.
The "$10$-fold way" refers to the combined classification of the $3$ associative division algebras (of real, complex and quaternionic numbers) and of the $7$, ${\mathbb Z}_2$-graded, superdivision algebras (in a superdivision algebra each homogeneous element is invertible). The connection of the $10$-fold way with the periodic table of topological insulators and superconductors is well known. Motivated by the recent interest in ${\mathbb Z}_2\times{\mathbb Z}_2$-graded physics (classical and quantum invariant models, parastatistics) we classify the associative ${\mathbb Z}_2\times {\mathbb Z}_…
We introduce, for every $\mathbb{Z}$-graded manifold, a formal exponential map defined in a purely algebraic way and study its properties. As an application, we give a simple new construction of a Fedosov type resolution of the algebra of smooth functions of $\mathbb{Z}$-graded manifolds and we extend the Emmrich--Weinstein theorem to the context of $\mathbb{Z}$-graded manifolds.
We consider genus one n-point functions for a vertex operator superalgebra with a real grading. We compute all n-point functions for rank one and rank two fermion vertex operator superalgebras. In the rank two fermion case, we obtain all orbifold n-point functions for a twisted module associated with a continuous automorphism generated by a Heisenberg bosonic state. The modular properties of these orbifold n-point functions are given and we describe a generalization of Fay's trisecant identity for elliptic functions.
