Field-dependent magnetic structure of a layered Dirac material EuMnBi$_2$ was investigated in detail by the single crystal neutron diffraction and the resonant x-ray magnetic diffraction techniques. On the basis of the reflection conditions in the antiferromagnetic phase at zero field, the Eu moments were found to be ordered ferromagnetically within the $ab$ plane and stacked antiferromagnetically along the $c$ axis in the sequence of up-up-down-down. Upon the spin-flop transition under the magnetic field parallel to the $c$ axis, the Eu moments are reoriented from the $c$ to the $a$ or $b$ directions forming two kinds of spin-flop domains, whereas the antiferromagnetic structure of the Mn sublattice remains intact as revealed by the quantitative analysis of the change in the neutron diffraction intensities. The present study provides a concrete basis to discuss the dominant role of the Eu sublattice on the enhanced two-dimensionality of the Dirac fermion transport in EuMnBi$_2$.
The crystal structure and physical properties of the layered material EuMnBi2 have been characterized by measurements on single crystals. EuMnBi2 is isostructural with the Dirac material SrMnBi2 based on single crystal x-ray diffraction, crystallizing in the I4/mmm space group (No. 139). Magnetic susceptibility measurements suggest antiferromagnetic (AFM) ordering of moments on divalent Eu ions near T_N=22K. For low fields, the ordered Eu moments are aligned along the c-axis, and a spin-flop is observed near 5.4T at 5K. The moment is not saturated in an applied field of 13T at 5K, which is unc…
We report here a comprehensive study of the AFM structures of the Eu and Mn magnetic sublattices as well as the interplay between Eu and Mn magnetism in this compound by using both polarized and non-polarized single-crystal neutron diffraction. Magnetic susceptibility, specific heat capacity measurements and the temperature dependence of magnetic diffractions suggest that the AFM ordering temperature of the Eu and Mn moments is at 22 and 337 K, respectively. The magnetic moments of both Eu and Mn ions are oriented along the crystallographic $c$ axis, and the respective magnetic propagation vec…
The magnetic structure of the "nonmetallic metal" FeCrAs, a compound with the characters of both metals and insulators, was examined as a function of temperature using single-crystal neutron diffraction. The magnetic propagation vector was found to be $\mathit{k}$ = (1/3, 1/3, 0), and the magnetic reflections disppeared above $\mathit{T_{N}}$ = 116(1) K. In the ground state, the Cr sublattice shows an in-plane spiral antiferromagnetic order. The moment sizes of the Cr ions were found to be small, due to strong magnetic frustration in the distorted Kagome lattice or the itinerant nature of the …
We show that interlayer spins play a dual role in the Cairo pentagonal magnet Bi$_4$Fe$_5$O$_{13}$F, on one hand mediating the three-dimensional (3D) magnetic order and on the other driving spin-reorientation transitions both within and between the planes. The corresponding sequence of magnetic orders unraveled by neutron diffraction and Mössbauer spectroscopy features two orthogonal magnetic structures described by opposite local vector chiralities, and an intermediate, partly disordered phase with nearly collinear spins. A similar collinear phase has been predicted theoretically to be stabil…

Structural and physical properties determined by measurements on large single crystals of the anisotropic ferromagnet MnBi are reported. The findings support the importance of magneto-elastic effects in this material. X-ray diffraction reveals a structural phase transition at the spin reorientation temperature $T_{SR}$ = 90 K. The distortion is driven by magneto-elastic coupling, and upon cooling transforms the structure from hexagonal to orthorhombic. Heat capacity measurements show a thermal anomaly at the crystallographic transition, which is suppressed rapidly by applied magnetic fields. E…
Magnetic structure evolution of multiferroic hexagonal $YMn_{1-x}Fe_{x}O_{3}$ (${x} = 0, 0.05,$ and $0.1$) has been studied by carrying out detailed temperature-dependent neutron diffraction at zero- and 5T-fields. Thermodynamic data confirm antiferromagnetic ordering at $T_{N}$ in all the compositions. Our sub-$T_{N}$ neutron diffraction results assign the magnetic structure of pure $YMnO_3$ to $Γ_{1}$ irreducible representation. Over the perturbative-doping range, the magnetic configuration changes via $Γ_{1}+Γ_{2}$ for $YMn_{0.95}Fe_{0.05}O_{3}$ on to $Γ_{2}$ for $YMn_{0.9}Fe_{0.1}O_{3}$, a…
Polarization hysteresis loops, x-ray diffraction (XRD) and temperature dependent dielectric constant under different electric fields for <110> oriented 0.7 Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-0.3PbTiO3 single crystals were measured. The field-induced phase transition and the process of depolarization were discussed. The results show that with the electric field increasing, the crystal form changes along via polar-axis reorientation and polarization rotation. However, the depolarization process is not just the reversal of the polarization process. It is noticed that just from the temperature dependent dielectric …
The lattice strain and domain switching behaviour was investigated as a function of cyclic field and grain orientation for a pseudorhombohedral composition of the high Curie point piezoelectric system xBiScO3 - (1-x)PbTiO3 (x = 0.40) by in-situ electric field diffraction technique with high energy synchrotron x-rays. Along the field direction, the system exhibts five time large strain along 100 as compared to the 111 direction. A one-to-one correspondence between the 200 lattice strain and the 111 domain switching suggests a strong correlation between the two phenomena.
Numerous applications of hexagonal ferrites are related to their easy axis or easy plane magnetocrystalline anisotropy configurations. Certain W-type ferrites undergo spin reorientation transitions (SRT) between different anisotropy states on magnetic field or temperature variation. The transition point can be tuned by modifying the chemical composition, which suggests a potential application of hexaferrites in room temperature magnetic refrigeration. Here we present the results of structural and magnetic characterization of BaCo_xZn_{2-x}Fe_{16}O_{27} (0.7 \leq x \leq 2) doped barium ferrites…
The present work reports the preparation of polycrystalline multiferroic $GdFeO_3$ (GdFO) and characterization with x-ray diffraction (XRD), magnetization, temperature dependent Raman spectroscopy, temperature and magnetic field dependent $^{57}Fe$ M$\ddot{o}$ssbauer spectroscopy measurements. The sample is found to be phase pure from Rietveld refinement of XRD pattern. The M$\ddot{o}$ssbauer spectra measured in the presence of external magnetic field show the signatures of field induced spin reorientation transition, which are corroborated by magnetization measurements. From the temperature d…
Using combined theoretical and experimental approaches, we studied the structural and electronic origin of the magnetic structure in hexagonal LuFeO$_3$. Besides showing the strong exchange coupling that is consistent with the high magnetic ordering temperature, the previously observed spin reorientation transition is explained by the theoretically calculated magnetic phase diagram. The structural origin of this spin reorientation that is responsible for the appearance of spontaneous magnetization, is identified by theory and verified by x-ray diffraction and absorption experiments.
By exploiting photo-induced reorientation in azo-polymer thin films, we demonstrate all-optical polarization-encoded information storage with a scanning near-field optical microscope. In the writing routine, 5-level bits are created by associating different bit values to different birefringence directions, induced in the polymer after illumination with linearly polarized light. The reading routine is then performed by implementing polarization-modulation techniques on the same near-field microscope, in order to measure the encoded birefringence direction.
We report the experimental observation of spin reorientation in the double perovskite Ho$_2$FeCoO$_6$. The magnetic phase transitions in this compound are characterized and studied through magnetization and specific heat, and the magnetic structures are elucidated by neutron powder diffraction. Two magnetic phase transitions are observed in this compound - one at $T_\mathrm{N1} \approx$ 250~K, from paramagnetic to antiferromagnetic, and the other at $T_\mathrm{N2} \approx$ 45~K, from a phase with mixed magnetic structures to a single phase through a spin reorientation process. The magnetic str…
Using complementary polarized and unpolarized single-crystal neutron diffraction, we have investigated the temperature-dependent magnetic structures of Eu$_{0.5}$Ca$_{0.5}$Fe$_{2}$As$_{2}$. Upon 50 \% dilution of the Eu sites with isovalent Ca$^{2+}$, the Eu sublattice is found to be still long-range ordered below $\mathit{T_{Eu}}$ = 10 K, in the A-typed antiferromagnetic (AFM) structure. The moment size of Eu$^{2+}$ spins is estimated to be as large as 6.74(4) $μ_{B}$ at 2.5 K. The Fe sublattice undergoes a spin-density-wave transition at $\mathit{T_{SDW}}$ = 192(2) K and displays an in-plane…
A combination of synchrotron X-ray, neutron powder diffraction, magnetization, heat capacity and electrical resistivity measurements reveals that NdMnAsO is an antiferromagnetic semiconductor with large Neel temperature (TN = 359(2) K). At room temperature the magnetic propagation vector k = 0 and the Mn moments are directed along the crystallographic c-axis (mMn = 2.41(6) BM). Upon cooling a spin reorientation (SR) transition of the Mn moments into the ab-plane occurs (TSR = 23 K). This coincides with the long range ordering of the Nd moments, which are restricted to the basal plane. The magn…
Orthoferrites are a class of magnetic materials with a magnetic ordering temperature above 600 K, predominant G-type antiferromagnetic ordering of the Fe-spin system and, depending on the rare-earth ion, a spin reorientation of the Fe spin taking place at lower temperatures. DyFeO3 is of particular interest since the spin reorientation is classified as a Morin transition with the transition temperature depending strongly on the Dy-Fe interaction. Here, we report a detailed study of the magnetic and structural properties of microcrystalline DyFeO3 powder and bulk single crystal using neutron di…
Three-dimensional (3D) X-ray diffraction methods were used to analyze the evolution of the load-induced rearrangements of monoclinic twin microstructures within bulk nickel-titanium specimens in 3D and across six orders of magnitude in length scales: changes in lattice plane spacings and orientations at the nanoscale, growth and nucleation of martensite twin variants at the microscale, and localization of plastic strain into deformation bands at the macroscale. Portions of the localized deformation bands were reconstructed in situ and in 3D. Analyses of the data elucidate the sequence of twin …
The perovskite TbFe$_{0.5}$Cr$_{0.5}$O$_3$ shows two anomalies in the magnetic susceptibility at $T_N$ = 257K and $T_{SR}$ = 190K which are respectively, the antiferromagnetic and spin reorientation transition that occur in the Fe/Cr sublattice. Analysis of the magnetic susceptibility reveals signatures of Griffiths-like phase in this compound. Neutron diffraction analysis confirms that, as the temperature is reduced from 350K, a spin reorientation transition from $Γ_2$ (F$_x$, C$_y$, G$_z$) to $Γ_4$ (G$_x$, A$_y$, F$_z$) occurs at $T_N$ = 257K and subsequently, a second spin reorientation tak…
The structural and magnetic properties of polycrystalline YMn1-xMxO3 (M = Ti, Fe, Ga; x = 0, 0.1) have been studied by neutron powder diffraction and magnetic measurements to probe the effect of Mn site doping on the frustration behavior and magnetic structure of these compounds. The compounds are isostructural and crystallize with hexagonal structure in P63cm space group. We find that doping with these three ions, Ti4+ (d0), Fe3+ (d5) and Ga3+ (d10), influences both the TN and magnetic structure, unlike other Mn-site dopants reported previously. The magnetic structure of YMnO3 is described by…
The magnetic structures and the magnetic phase transitions in the Mn-doped orthoferrite TbFeO$_3$ studied using neutron powder diffraction are reported. Magnetic phase transitions are identified at $T^\mathrm{Fe/Mn}_N \approx$ 295~K where a paramagnetic-to-antiferromagnetic transition occurs in the Fe/Mn sublattice, $T^\mathrm{Fe/Mn}_{SR} \approx$ 26~K where a spin-reorientation transition occurs in the Fe/Mn sublattice and $T^\mathrm{R}_N \approx$ 2~K where Tb-ordering starts to manifest. At 295~K, the magnetic structure of the Fe/Mn sublattice in TbFe$_{0.5}$Mn$_{0.5}$O$_3$ belongs to the ir…
Analysis of neutron diffraction, dc magnetization, ac magnetic susceptibility, heat capacity, and electrical resistivity for DyRuAsO in an applied magnetic field are presented at temperatures near and below those at which the structural distortion (T_S = 25 K) and subsequent magnetic ordering (T_N = 10.5 K) take place. Powder neutron diffraction is used to determine the antiferromagnetic order of Dy moments of magnitude 7.6(1) mu_B in the absence of a magnetic field, and demonstrate the reorientation of the moments into a ferromagnetic configuration upon application of a magnetic field. Dy mag…
The magnetic structure of the mixed antiferromagnet NdMn$_{0.8}$Fe$_{0.2}$O$_3$ was resolved. Neutron powder diffraction data definitively resolve the Mn-sublattice with a magnetic propagation vector ${\bf k} = (000)$ and with the magnetic structure (A$_x$, F$_y$, G$_z$) for 1.6~K~$< T < T_N (\approx 59$~K). The Nd-sublattice has a (0, f$_y$, 0) contribution in the same temperature interval. The Mn sublattice undergoes spin-reorientation transition at $T_1 \approx 13$~K while the Nd magnetic moment keep ordered abruptly increases at this temperature. Powder X-ray diffraction shows a strong mag…
Cubic spinel GeNi2O4 exhibits intriguing magnetic properties with two successive antiferromagnetic phase transitions (TN1 12.1 and TN2 11.4 K) with the absence of any structural transition. We have performed detailed heat capacity and magnetic measurements in different crystallographic orientations. A new magnetic phase in presence of magnetic field (H > 4 T) along the [111] direction is revealed, which is not observed when the magnetic field is applied along the [100] and [110] directions. High field neutron powder diffraction measurements confirm such a change in magnetic phase, which could …
We report neutron diffraction and magnetization studies of the magnetic order in multiferroic BiFeO3. In ferroelectric monodomain single crystals, there are three magnetic cycloidal domains with propagation vectors equivalent by crystallographic symmetry. The cycloid period slowly grows with increasing temperature. The magnetic domain populations do not change with temperature except in the close vicinity of the N¶eel temperature, at which, in addition, a small jump in magneti- zation is observed. No evidence for the spin-reorientation transitions proposed in previous Raman and dielectric stud…
The effects of high magnetic fields applied perpendicular to the spontaneous ferroelectric polarization on single crystals of BiFeO$_3$ were investigated through magnetization, magnetostriction, and neutron diffraction measurements. The magnetostriction measurements revealed lattice distortion of $2\times 10^{-5}$, during the reorientation process of the cycloidal spin order by applied magnetic fields. Furthermore, anomalous changes in magnetostriction and electric polarization at a larger field demonstrate an intermediate phase between cycloidal and canted antiferromagnetic states, where a la…
Zircaloy-4 is used as a fuel cladding material for water reactors, as it has good mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, and a low thermal neutron absorption cross section. However, the mechanical performance of Zircaloy-4 can be reduced during service due to hydrogen uptake and hydride formation. These hydrides are brittle, and often reduce the strength and toughness of materials as well as increase susceptibility to delayed hydride cracking (DHC). In this work, large grain Zircaloy-4 with hydrides was prepared and then cross sectioned using cryo-ion beam polishing, using plasma focused…
Van der Waals magnet VI$_3$ demonstrates intriguing magnetic properties that render it great for use in various applications. However, its microscopic magnetic structure has not been determined yet. Here, we report neutron diffraction and susceptibility measurements in VI$_3$ that revealed a ferromagnetic order with the moment direction tilted from the $c$-axis by ~36° at 4 K. A spin reorientation accompanied by a structure distortion within the honeycomb plane is observed at a temperature of ~27 K, before the magnetic order completely disappears at $T_C$ = 50 K. The refined magnetic moment of…
The triangular spin lattice of NiBr$_{2}$ is a canonical example of a frustrated helimagnet that shows a temperature-driven phase transition from a collinear commensurate antiferromagnetic structure to an incommensurate spin helix on cooling. Employing neutron diffraction, bulk magnetization, and magnetic susceptibility measurements, we have studied the f\hspace*{.5pt}ield-induced magnetic states of the NiBr$_{2}$ single crystal. Experimental f\hspace*{.5pt}indings enable us to recapitalize the driving forces of the spin spiral ordering in the triangular spin-lattice systems, in general. Neutr…
YBaCo4O7 belongs to a new class of geometrically frustrated magnets like the pyrochlores, in which Co-spins occupy corners of tetrahedra. The structure can be viewed as an alternating stacking of Kagome and triangular layers. Exactly half of the triangular units of the Kagome plane are capped by Co ions to form columns running perpendicular to the Kagome sheets. Neutron powder diffraction reveals a broad temperature range of diffuse magnetic scattering, followed by long range magnetic ordering below 110K. A unique low-temperature magnetic structure simultaneously satisfies an S=0 arrangement i…
Herein, we report the discovery of a novel Gd-based magnetic compound GdPt$_2$B with a chiral crystal structure. X-ray diffraction and chemical composition analyses reveal a CePt$_2$B-type crystal structure (space group: $P6_422$) for GdPt$_2$B. Moreover, we successfully grew single crystals of GdPt$_2$B using the Czochralski method. Magnetization measurements and the Curie$-$Weiss analysis demonstrate that the ferromagnetic interaction is dominant in GdPt$_2$B. A clear transition is observed in the temperature dependence of electrical resistivity, magnetic susceptibility, and specific heat at…
We report a comprehensive study of single crystals of the noncentrosymmetric rare-earth compound EuPtSi$_{3}$ grown by the optical floating-zone technique. Measurements of the magnetization, ac susceptibility, and specific heat consistently establish antiferromagnetic order of localized Eu$^{2+}$ moments below the Néel temperature $T_{\mathrm{N}} = 17~\mathrm{K}$, followed by a second magnetic transition at $T_{\mathrm{N1}} = 16~\mathrm{K}$. For a magnetic field along the easy $[001]$ axis, the magnetic phase diagram is composed of these two phases. For fields applied in the magnetically hard …
Changes in lattice structure across sub-regions of protein crystals are challenging to assess when relying on whole crystal measurements. Because of this difficulty, macromolecular structure determination from protein micro and nano crystals requires assumptions of bulk crystallinity and domain block substructure. To evaluate the fidelity of these assumptions in protein nanocrystals we map lattice structure across micron size areas of cryogenically preserved three-dimensional peptide crystals using a nano-focused electron beam. This approach produces diffraction from as few as 1,500 molecules …
The monoclinic double-perovskite Sr2YRuO6 has recently gained a renewed interest in order to get a deeper insight into the exotic magnetic ground states associated with geometric frustration. Striking discrepancies between the spin order derived from the neutron diffraction refinements and the macroscopic magnetic and thermal responses is a major challenge that must be addressed. In this work, detailed neutron diffraction measurements as a function of temperature yield a completely different interpretation of the patterns. We show that at low temperatures a spin structure of the K2NiF4-type is…
Polycrystalline samples of Lu{1-x}Sc{x}MnSi (x= 0, 0.25, 0.50) are studied using powder x-ray diffraction (XRD), heat capacity Cp, magnetization M, magnetic susceptibility chi, and electrical resistivity rho measurements versus temperature T and magnetic field H. This system crystallizes in the primitive orthorhombic TiNiSi-type structure (space group Pnma) as previously reported. The rho(T) data indicate metallic behavior. The Cp(T), chi(T), and rho(T) measurements consistently indicate long-range antiferromagnetic (AF) transitions with AF ordering temperatures TN = 246, 215 and 188 K for x =…
The low temperature properties of the Kagome-type system Co3V2O8 have been studied by powder neutron diffraction both in zero field and in applied magnetic field of up to 8 T. Below 6 K, the zero-field ground state is ferromagnetic with the magnetic moments aligned along the a-axis. The size of the moment on one of the two Co sites, the so called cross-tie site, is considerably reduced compared to the fully polarized state. The application of a magnetic field in this phase is found to rapidly enhance the cross-tie site magnetic moment, which reaches the expected value of ~3muB by the maximum a…
We investigate the structural and magnetic origins of the unusual ultrafast second-harmonicgeneration (SHG) response of femtosecond-laser-excited nickel oxide (NiO) previously attributed to oscillatory reorientation dynamics of the magnetic structure induced by d-d excitations. Using time-resolved x-ray diffraction from the (3/2 3/2 3/2) magnetic planes, we show that changes in the magnitude of the magnetic structure factor following ultrafast optical excitation are limited to $Δ<F_m>/<F_m>$ = 1.5% in the first 30 ps. An extended investigation of the ultrafast SHG response reveals a strong dep…
A complex magnetic order of the multiferroic compound Co3TeO6 has been revealed by neutron powder diffraction studies on ceramics and crushed single crystals. The compound adopts a monoclinic structure (s.g. C2/c) in the studied temperature range 2 K - 300 K but exhibits successive antiferromagnetic transitions at low temperature. Incommensurate antiferromagnetic order with the propagation vector k1 = (0, 0.485, 0.055) sets in at 26 K. A transition to a second antiferromagnetic structure with k2 = (0, 0, 0) takes place at 21.1 K. Moreover, a transition to a commensurate antiferromagnetic struc…
A variable temperature neutron and synchrotron diffraction study have been performed on the giant magnetoresistant oxypnictides LnMnAsO (Ln = La, Nd). The low temperature magnetic structures have been studied and results show a spin reorientation of the Mn2+ spins below TN (Nd) for NdMnAsO. The Mn2+ spins rotate from alignment along c to alignment into the basal plane and the Mn2+ and Nd3+ moments refine to 3.54(4) μB and 1.93(4) μB respectively at 2 K. In contrast there is no change in magnetic structure with temperature for LaMnAsO. There is no evidence of a structural transition down to 2 K…
Eu-based compounds often exhibit unusual magnetism, which is critical for nontrivial topological properties seen in materials such as EuCd2As2. We investigate the structure and physical properties of EuZn2As2 through measurements of the electrical resistivity, Hall effect, magnetization, and neutron diffraction. Our data show that EuZn2As2 orders antiferromagnetically with an A-type spin configuration below TN = 19 K. Surprisingly, there is strong evidence for dominant ferromagnetic fluctuations above TN, as reflected by positive Curie-Weiss temperature and extremely large negative magnetoresi…
The role of doping Fe on the structural, magnetic and dielectric properties of frustrated antiferromagnet YMn1-xFexO3 (x less than or equal to 0.5) has been investigated. The neutron diffraction analysis shows that the structure of these polycrystalline samples changes from hexagonal phase (space group P63cm) to orthorhombic phase (space group Pnma) for x > 0.2. The frustration parameter decreases with Fe substitution. All the compounds are antiferromagnetic and the magnetic structure is described as a mixture of Γ3 and Γ4 irreducible representation (IR) in the hexagonal phase and the ratio of…
The mixed ferrite-cobaltites LnFe0.5Co0.5O3, with Ln = Eu & Dy have been prepared by a sol-gel method and the samples have been characterized using X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy. The magnetic investigations reveal that both samples ordered in canted antiferromagnetic structures near room temperature. The Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya or antisymmetric exchange interaction induces weak ferromagnetism due to canting of the antiferromagnetically ordered spins. In the case of Ln-Fe-Co orthoferrites, two magnetic sublattices (Ln3+-4f and Fe3+/Co3+-3d) generally align in opposite directions and i…
The strain dependence of electric and magnetic properties has been widely investigated, both from a fundamental science perspective and an applications point of view. Electromechanical coupling through field-induced polarization rotation (PRO) and polarization reorientation (PRE) in piezoelectric single crystals can provide an effective strain in film/substrate epitaxial heterostructures. However, the specific pathway of PRO and PRE is a complex thermodynamic process, depending on chemical composition, temperature, electric field and mechanical load. Here, systematic studies of the temperature…
Pronounced anisotropy of magnetic properties and complex magnetic order of a new oxi-halide compound Co7(TeO3)4Br6 has been investigated by powder and single crystal neutron diffraction, magnetization and ac susceptibility techniques. Anisotropy of susceptibility extends far into the paramagnetic temperature range. A principal source of anisotropy are anisotropic properties of the involved octahedrally coordinated single Co(2+) ions, as confirmed by angular-overlap-model calculations presented in this work. Incommensurate antiferromagnetic order sets in at TN=34 K. Propagation vector is strong…
Eu-based Zintl-phase materials EuA$_2$Pn$_2$ (A = Mg, In, Cd, Zn; Pn = Bi, Sb, As, P) have generated significant recent interest owing to the complex interplay of magnetism and band topology. Here, we investigated the electronic, magnetic, and electronic properties of the layered Zintl-phase single crystals of EuMg$_2$Sb$_2$ with the trigonal CaAl$_2$Si$_2$ crystal structure (space group $P\bar{3}m1$). Electrical resistivity measurements complemented with angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) studies find an activated behavior with the intrinsic conductivity at high temperatures in…
Detailed investigation of the incommensurate magnetic ordering in a single crystal of multiferroic NdMn2O5 has been performed using both non-polarized and polarized neutron diffraction techniques. Below TN = 30.5 K magnetic Bragg reflections corresponding to the non-chiral type magnetic structure with propagation vector k1 = (0.5 0 kz1) occurs. Below about 27 K a new distorted magnetic modulation with a similar vector kz2 occurs, which is attributed to the magnetization of the Nd3+ ions by the Mn-sub-lattice. Strong temperature hysteresis in the occurrence of the incommensurate magnetic phases…

Li3Co2SbO6 is prepared by molten salt ion exchange and its structure refined by the Rietveld method confirming the honeycomb-type Co/Sb ordering of its Na precursor. Monoclinic rather than trigonal symmetry of Na3Co2SbO6 is directly demonstrated for the first time by peak splitting in the high-resolution synchrotron XRD pattern. The long-range antiferromagnetic order is established at TN about 6.7 K and 9.9 K in Na3Co2SbO6 and Li3Co2SbO6, respectively, confirmed by both the magnetic susceptibility and specific heat. Spin-wave analysis of specific heat data indicates the presence of 3D AFM magn…
The physical properties of self-flux grown EuPd2As2 single crystals have been investigated by magnetization M, magnetic susceptibility chi, specific heat Cp, and electrical resistivity rho measurements versus temperature T and magnetic field H. The crystal structure was determined by powder x-ray diffraction measurements, which confirmed the ThCr2Si2-type body-centered tetragonal structure (space group I4/mmm) reported previously. The rho(T) data indicate that state of EuPd2As2 is metallic. Long-range antiferromagnetic (AFM) ordering is apparent from the chi(T), Cp(T), and rho(T) measurements.…
