It has been shown recently that additional information can be obtained from charged particle multiplicity distribution by investigating their modified combinants $C_j$, which exhibit periodic oscillatory behaviour. The modified combinants obtained from experimental data can be expressed in a recurrent form involving the probability of obtaining $N$ charged particles $P(N)$, scaled by the void probability $P(0)$. The effects of various experimental observables such as $|η|$, $p_T$ and centre-of-mass collision energy $\sqrt{s}$ on the oscillatory behaviour of $C_j$ will be discussed.
Oscillations in modified combinants ($C_j$s) have been of interest to multiparticle production mechanisms since the 1990s. Recently, there has been a discussion on how these oscillations can be reproduced by compounding a binomial distribution with a negative binomial distribution. In this work, we explore a stochastic branching model based on a simple interaction term $λ\overlineψϕψ$ for partons and propose a hadronization scheme to arrive at the final multiplicity distribution. We study the effects that compounding our model with a binomial distribution has on $C_j$s and explore its physical…
As shown recently, one can obtain additional information from the measured charged particle multiplicity distributions, $P(N)$, by investigating the so-called modified combinants, $C_j$, extracted from them. This information is encoded in the observed specific oscillatory behaviour of $C_j$, which phenomenologically can be described only by some combinations of compound distributions based on the Binomial Distribution. So far this idea has been checked in $pp$ and $e^+e^-$ processes (where observed oscillations are spectacularly strong). In this paper, we continue observation of multiparticle …
Multiplicity distributions of charged particles measured by the ATLAS Collaboration in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=8$ and 13 TeV are analyzed in the framework of a weighted superposition of three negative binomial distribution functions. The examination of the experimental data confirms the existence of a narrow peak at low multiplicities found earlier at $\sqrt{s}=0.9$ and 7 TeV. The peak is described by the third separate component of the total distribution. The energy dependence of the multiplicity characteristics of the three-component scenario is studied. It is demonstrated that…
The mechanism of deuteron production in heavy-ion collisions is shown to have a significant impact on the shape of the modified combinants of their multiplicity distribution. In light of this observation, an experimental study is proposed to tackle the long-standing problem of nuclei synthesis in hadronic and nuclear collisions. The proposed approach has the potential to provide stringent constraints on the models of deuteron synthesis.
The experimentally measured multiplicity distributions exhibit, after closer inspection, peculiarly enhanced void probability and oscillatory behavior of the modified combinants. We show that both these features can be used as additional sources of information, not yet fully explored, on the mechanism of multiparticle production. We provide their theoretical understanding within the class of compound distributions.
As shown recently, one can obtain additional information from the measured multiplicity distributions, $P(N)$, by extracting the so-called modified combinants, $C_j$. This information is encoded in their specific oscillatory behavior, which can be described only by some combinations of compound distributions, the basic part of which is the Binomial Distribution. So far this idea was applied to $pp$ and $p\bar{p}$ processes; in this note we show that an even stronger effect is observed in the $C_j$ deduced from $e^+e^-$ collisions. We present its possible explanation in terms of the so called G…
Multiparticle production processes provide valuable information about the mechanism of the conversion of the initial energy of projectiles into a number of secondaries by measuring their multiplicity distributions and their distributions in phase space. They therefore serve as a reference point for more involved measurements. Distributions in phase space are usually investigated using the statistical approach, very successful in general but failing in cases of small colliding systems, small multiplicities, and at the edges of the allowed phase space, in which cases the underlying dynamical eff…
Neutrino flavour oscillations are analyzed in a model in which particles experience an effective Schwarzschild geometry modified by maximal acceleration corrections. These imply a quantum violation of the equivalence principle. The corresponding shifts in the phase of the neutrino mass eigenstates are calculated and discussed.
It is shown that F(R)-modified gravitational theories lead to curvature oscillations in astrophysical systems with rising energy density. The frequency and the amplitude of such oscillations could be very high and would lead to noticeable production of energetic cosmic ray particles.
The neutrino oscillation probabilities at the long-baseline accelerator neutrino experiments are expected to be modified by matter effects. We search for evidence of such modification in the data of T2K and NO$ν$A, by fitting the data to the hypothesis of (a) matter modified oscillations and (b) vacuum oscillations. We find that vacuum oscillations provide as good a fit to the data as matter modified oscillations. Even extended runs of T2K and NO$ν$A, with 5 years in neutrino mode $(5 ν)$ and five years in anti-neutrino mode $(5 \barν)$, can {\bf not} make a $3~σ$ distinction between vacuum an…
Atmospheric neutrinos travel very long distances through earth matter. It is expected that the matter effects lead to significant changes in the neutrino survival and oscillation probabilities. Initial analysis of atmospheric neutrino data by the Super- Kamiokande collaboration is done using the vacuum oscillation hypothesis, which provided a good fit to the data. In this work, we did a study to differentiate the effects of vacuum oscillations and matter modified oscillations in the atmospheric neutrino data. We find that magnetized iron detector, ICAL at INO, can make a 3 sigma discrimination…
Field mixing transformations are studied in quantum field theory and the generator of the transformations is found to induce an SU(2) coherent structure in the vacuum state, both for bosons and for fermions. The Fock space for mixed fields is unitarily inequivalent to the Fock space of the unmixed fields in the infinite volume limit. We study neutrino mixing and oscillations and find that the oscillation amplitude is depressed by a factor which is momentum and mass dependent. The usual formula is recovered in the relativistic limit. Phenomenological features of the modified oscillation formula…
Motivated by the interest in searches for violation of CPT invariance, we study its possible effects in the flavour ratios of high-energy neutrinos coming from cosmic accelerators. In particular, we focus on the effect of an energy independent new physics contribution to the neutrino flavour oscillation phase and explore whether it is observable in future detectors. Such a contribution could be related not only to CPT violation but also to a nonuniversal coupling of neutrinos to a torsion field. We conclude that this extra phase contribution only becomes observable, in the best case, at energi…
We study the consequences of CPT and lepton number violation in neutrino sector. For CPT violation we take gravity with which neutrino and antineutrino couple differently. Gravity mixes neutrino and antineutrino in an unequal ratio to give two mass eigenstates. Lepton number violation interaction together with CPT violation gives rise to neutrino-antineutrino oscillation. Subsequently, we study the neutrino flavor mixing and oscillation under the influence of gravity. It is found that gravity changes flavor oscillation significantly which influences the relative abundance of different flavors …
That muon neutrinos $ν_μ$ oscillating into the mixture of tau neutrinos $ν_τ$ and sterile neutrinos $ν_{s}$ has been studied to explain the atmospheric $ν_μ$ disappearance. In this scenario, the effect of Earth matter is a key to determine the fraction of $ν_{s}$. Considering that the Earth matter density has uncertainty and this uncertainty has significant effects in some neutrino oscillation cases, such as the CP violation in very long baseline neutrino oscillations and the day-night asymmetry for solar neutrinos, we study the effects caused by this uncertainty in the above atmospheric $ν_μ$…
When neutrinos propagate in a background, their gravitational couplings are modified by their weak interactions with the particles in the background. In a medium that contains electrons but no muons or taons, the matter-induced gravitational couplings of neutrinos are different for the various neutrino flavors, and they must be taken into account in describing the phenomena associated with the neutrino oscillations in the presence of strong gravitational fields. Here we incorporate those couplings in that description, including also the effects of a magnetic field, and consider the implication…
We shall proceed with the construction of normalizable Dirac wave packets for {\em fermionic} particles (neutrinos) with dynamics governed by a ``modified'' Dirac equation with a non-minimal coupling with an external magnetic field. We are not only interested on the analytic solutions of the ``modified'' Dirac wave equation but also on the construction of Dirac wave packets which can be used for describing the dynamics of some observable physical quantities which are relevant in the context of the quantum oscillation phenomena. To conclude, we discuss qualitatively the applicability of this fo…
We analyse the MOdified Gravity (MOG) theory, proposed by Moffat, in a cosmological context. We use data from Type Ia Supernovae (SNe Ia), Baryon Acoustic Oscillations (BAO) and Cosmic Chronometers (CC) to test MOG predictions. For this, we perform $χ^2$ tests considering fixed values of $H_0$ and $V_G$, the self-interaction potential of one of the scalar fields in the theory. Our results show that the MOG theory is in agreement with all data sets for some particular values of $H_0$ and $V_G$, being the BAO data set the most powerful tool to test MOG predictions, due to its constraining power.

One possible feature of quantum gravity may be the violation of Lorentz invariance. In this paper we consider one particular manifestation of the violation of Lorentz invariance, namely modified dispersion relations for massive neutrinos. We show how such modified dispersion relations may affect atmospheric neutrino oscillations. We then consider how neutrino telescopes, such as ANTARES, may be able to place bounds on the magnitude of this type of Lorentz invariance violation.
A unique description avoiding confusion is presented for all flavor oscillation experiments in which particles of a definite flavor are emitted from a localized source. The probability for finding a particle with the wrong flavor must vanish at the position of the source for all times. This condition requires flavor-time and flavor-energy factorizations which determine uniquely the flavor mixture observed at a detector in the oscillation region; i.e. where the overlaps between the wave packets for different mass eigenstates are almost complete. Oscillation periods calculated for ``gedanken'' t…
Quantum decoherence, the evolution of pure states into mixed states, may be a feature of quantum gravity. In this paper, we show how these effects can be modelled for atmospheric neutrinos and illustrate how the standard oscillation picture is modified. We examine how neutrino telescopes, such as ANTARES, are able to place upper bounds on these quantum decoherence effects.
Three-generation MSW effect in curved spacetime is studied and a brief discussion on the gravitational correction to the neutrino self-energy is given. The modified mixing parameters and corresponding conversion probabilities of neutrinos after traveling through celestial objects of constant densities are obtained. The method to distinguish between the normal hierarchy and inverted hierarchy is discussed in this framework. Due to the gravitational redshift of energy, in some extreme situations, the resonance energy of neutrinos might be shifted noticeably and the gravitational effect on the se…
A gravitationally-induced modification to de Broglie wave-particle duality is presented. At Planck scale, the gravitationally-modified matter wavelength saturates to a few times the Planck length in a momentum independent manner. In certain frameworks, this circumstance freezes neutrino oscillations in the Planck realm. This effect is apart, and beyond, the gravitational red-shift. A conclusion is drawn that in a complete theory of quantum gravity the notions of ``quantum'' and ``gravity'' shall carry new meanings -- meanings, that are yet to be deciphered from theory and observations in their…
The Starobinsky model of modified gravity suggested to explain dark energy may be also considered in the astrophysical context. Recently it has been pointed out that in contracting regions curvature oscillations around the GR value may lead to the production of high energy particles which contribute to the cosmic ray flux. We revisit these calculations in the Einstein frame and show that the continuous approximation for the matter density used in the original calculations is not valid. We show that this problem is generic in $F(R)$-gravity models introduced to describe the dark energy. We go b…
In the view of the quantum dynamic theory of measurement developed from the Hepp-Colemen (HC) model (K. Hepp, Hev.Phys.Acta, {\bf 45}, 237 (1972)), the quantum decoherence in neutrino flavor oscillation caused by an environment surrounding neutrinos is generally considered in this paper. The Ellis, Hagelin, Nanopoulos and Srednicki (EHNS) mechanism for solving the solar neutrino problem can be comprehended in a framework of the ordinary quantum mechanics. In the weak- coupling limit, a microscopic model is proposed to describe the transition of two neutrino system from a pure state to a mixed …
We suggest that the presence of a quantum gravity induced minimal length can be explored using neutrino oscillation probabilities. Neutrinos seem ideally suited for this investigation because they can propagate freely over large distances and can therefore pile up minimal length effects beyond detectable thresholds. We determine the modified survival probability in a scenario with a minimal length and find deviations from the classical behaviour for high energies. We find that for the currently available experimental statistics the deviations from the standard oscillations do only allow for a …
