In this proceeding, we present the new precise directed flow $v_{1}$, measurement of $π$, $K$, $p$ and $ϕ$ in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 27, 54.4 GeV and deuteron at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 7.7, 11.5, 14.5 and 19.6 GeV. The first measurement of pseudorapidity and centrality dependence of the $v_{1}$ of high-$p_{T}$ ($>$5 GeV/$c$) charged hadrons in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 200 GeV are reported. The elliptic flow $v_{2}$, of identified hadrons ($π$, $K$, $p$, $ϕ$, $K^{0}_{S}$, $Λ$, $Ξ$, $Ω$) in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 54.4 GeV are also presented. The results are compared with model calculations to discuss the physics implications.
Measurements of anisotropic flow in heavy-ion collisions provide insight into the early stage of the system's evolution. This proceedings presents directed and elliptic flow for Au+Au collisions at 39, 11.5 and 7.7 GeV, and for Cu+Cu at 22.4 GeV, measured in the STAR Experiment at RHIC. Differential measurements of directed and elliptic flow of charged particles as a function of centrality, transverse momentum and pseudorapidity are discussed.
The directed and elliptic flow of protons and charged pions has been observed from the semi-central collisions of a 158 GeV/nucleon Pb beam with a Pb target. The rapidity and transverse momentum dependence of the flow has been measured. The directed flow of the pions is opposite to that of the protons but both exhibit negative flow at low pt. The elliptic flow of both is fairly independent of rapidity but rises with pt.
New data with a minimum bias trigger for 158 GeV/nucleon Pb + Pb have been analyzed. Directed and elliptic flow as a function of rapidity of the particles and centrality of the collision are presented. The centrality dependence of the ratio of elliptic flow to the initial space elliptic anisotropy is compared to models.
We have studied the rapidity-odd directed flow in $^{197}$Au+$^{197}$Au collisions in the beam energy range from $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 7.7 to 39 GeV within the framework of an extended multiphase transport model with both partonic and hadronic mean-field potentials incorporated. Effects of the partonic scatterings, mean-field potentials, hadronization, and hadronic evolution on the directed flow are investigated, and it is found that the final directed flow is mostly sensitive to the partonic scatterings and the hadronization mechanism. Our study shows that a negative slope of the proton directed …
Directed and elliptic flow of protons and positively charged pions has been studied in the target fragmentation region using the Plastic Ball detector in the WA98 experiment. The results exhibit a strong dependence on centrality, rapidity, and transverse momentum. The rapidity dependence can be described by a Gaussian distribution. The model comparisons reveal a large discrepancy of the flow strength obtained from the data and the simulations.
We present the measurements of strange hadron elliptic flow at mid-rapidity in Au + Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 7.7 - 200 GeV using the STAR detector in the years 2010 and 2011. The transverse momentum and collision centrality dependence of elliptic flow is presented. At the intermediate transverse momentum $Ω$ baryon and $ϕ$-meson show baryon-meson separation effect similar to proton and pion for minimum-bias Au+Au collision at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ =200 GeV. This indicates formation of collective flow at the early partonic phase. The separation between baryons and mesons at intermediate tra…
Directed and elliptic flow measurements for charged pions and protons are reported as a function of transverse momentum, rapidity, and centrality for 40 and 158A GeV Pb + Pb collisions as recorded by the NA49 detector. Both the standard method of correlating particles with an event plane, and the cumulant method of studying multiparticle correlations are used. In the standard method the directed flow is corrected for conservation of momentum. In the cumulant method elliptic flow is reconstructed from genuine 4, 6, and 8-particle correlations, showing the first unequivocal evidence for collecti…
PHOBOS measurements of elliptic flow are presented as a function of pseudorapidity, centrality, transverse momentum, energy and nuclear species. The elliptic flow in Cu-Cu is surprisingly large, particularly for the most central events. After scaling out the geometry through the use of an alternative form of eccentricity, called the participant eccentricity, which accounts for nucleon position fluctuations in the colliding nuclei, the relative magnitude of the elliptic flow in the Cu-Cu system is qualitatively similar to that measured in the Au-Au system.
We present the analyses of single electrons from semileptonic bottom and charm hadron decays at mid-rapidity in $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 and 54.4 GeV Au+Au collisions (talk in Heavy-Flavor session III). The data at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV incorporate information from the Heavy Flavor Tracker which enables the topological separation of electrons originating from bottom and charm hadron decays. We report the first STAR measurements at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV of $v_{2}$ for bottom decay electrons as a function of $p_{T}$ and $v_{1}$ for charm decay electrons as a function of electron rapidity. A…
We present the measurement of centrality dependence of multi-strange hadron ($Ω$, $Ξ$ and $ϕ$) elliptic flow ($v_{2}$) at mid-rapidity in Au+Au collision at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV. We investigate number-of-constituents quark (NCQ) scaling of identified hadrons $v_{2}$ for different collision centralities. Maximum deviation from ideal NCQ scaling observed at the level of 10% for centrality 30-80$%$ at $(m_{T} - m_{0})/n_{q}$ $>$ 0.6 GeV/$c^{2}$. This may indicate smaller contribution to the collectivity from the partonic phase in the peripheral collisions. We also observe the mass ordering o…
Directed and elliptic flow are reported for charged pions and protons as a function of transverse momentum, rapidity, and centrality in 40 and 158 AGeV Pb + Pb collisions. The standard method of correlating particles with an event plane is used. The directed flow of protons is small and shows little variation near to midrapidity, but rises fast towards projectile rapidity in the 40 AGeV data. For most peripheral collisions the flat region becomes negative resulting in $v_1$ changing sign three times. Elliptic flow doesn't seem to change very much from 40 AGeV to 158 AGeV. The difference is sma…
In these proceedings, we present the measurements of elliptic ($v_2$) and triangular ($v_3$) flow of (multi-)strange hadrons and $ϕ$ mesons in 19.6 and 14.6 GeV Au+Au collisions from STAR. The number of constituent quark (NCQ) scaling of $v_2$ and $v_3$ holds well at $\sqrt{ s_{\mathrm{ NN }} } $ = 19.6 GeV, which indicates the collective flow is built up in the partonic stage. At these energies, the anti-particles show better NCQ scaling than the particles for both $v_2$ and $v_3$, which may be caused by the different contributions from the produced and transported quarks.
The directed flow of particles produced in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions at SPS and RHIC is so small that currently available methods of analysis are at the border of applicability. Standard two-particle and flow-vector methods are biased by large nonflow correlations. On the other hand, cumulants of four-particle correlations, which are free from this bias, are plagued by large statistical errors. Here, we present a new method based on three-particle correlations, which uses the property that elliptic flow is large at these energies. This method may also be useful at intermediate ene…
We report the elliptic flow ($v_{2}$) of $K_{s}^{0}$, $Λ$, $\barΛ$, $ϕ$, $Ξ^{-}$, and $\overlineΞ^{+}$ at mid-rapidity for Ru+Ru and Zr+Zr collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm {NN}}}$ = 200 GeV. The transverse momentum ($p_{T}$) and centrality dependence of $v_{2}$ have been studied. The number of constituent quark (NCQ) scaling for all the (multi-)strange hadrons has also been tested. The dependence in the ratio of average $v_{2}$ ($\langle$$v_{2}$$\rangle$) on centrality shows a deviation from unity indicating a difference in nuclear structure and deformation between the isobars. The results show…
We compare microscopic transport model calculations to recent data on the directed and elliptic flow of various hadrons in 2 - 10 A GeV Au+Au and Pb (158 A GeV) Pb collisions. For the Au+Au excitation function a transition from the squeeze-out to an in-plane enhanced emission is consistently described with mean field potentials corresponding to one incompressibility. For the Pb (158 A GeV) Pb system the elliptic flow prefers in-plane emission both for protons and pions, the directed flow of protons is opposite to that of the pions, which exhibit anti-flow. Strong directed transverse flow is pr…
The directed and elliptic flow in collisions of $^{112}Sn$ + $^{112}Sn$ at energies from 35 to 90 MeV/nucleon were studied in an isospin-dependent quantum molecule dynamics model (IQMD). With increasing incident energy, the directed flow rises from the negative flow to the positive flow. Its magnitude depends on the nuclear equation of state (EOS). However, the elliptic flow shows decrease with increasing incident energy and its magnitude is not very sensible to EOS. Systematic studies of the impact parameter dependence and cluster mass dependence were also performed. The study of directed flo…
Strange hadrons, especially multi-strange hadrons are good probes for the early partonic stage of heavy ion collisions due to their small hadronic cross sections. In this paper, I give a brief review on the elliptic flow measurements of strange and multi-strange hadrons in relativistic heavy ion collisions at Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and Large Hadron Collider (LHC).
The elliptic flow of electrons from beauty hadron decays at midrapidity ($|y|$ $<$ 0.8) is measured in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The azimuthal distribution of the particles produced in the collisions can be parameterized with a Fourier expansion, in which the second harmonic coefficient represents the elliptic flow, $v_{\rm 2}$. The $v_{\rm 2}$ coefficient of electrons from beauty-hadron decays is measured for the first time in the transverse momentum ($p_{\rm{T}}$) range 1.3-6 GeV/$c$ in the centrality class 30-50%. The measurement …
Directed and elliptic flow for the Au + Au system at incident energies between 40 and 150 MeV per nucleon has been measured using the INDRA 4 pi multi-detector. For semi-central collisions, the elliptic flow of Z <= 2 particles switches from in-plane to out-of-plane enhancement at around 100 MeV per nucleon, in good agreement with the result reported by the FOPI Collaboration. The directed flow changes sign at a bombarding energy between 50 and 60 MeV per nucleon and remains negative at lower energies. The conditions for the appearance and possible origins of negative flow are discussed.
Elliptic ($v_2$) and triangular ($v_3$) anisotropic flow coefficients for inclusive and identified charged hadrons (~$π^\pm$, $K^\pm$, $p$, $\bar{p}$~) at midrapidity in Au+Au collisions, measured by the STAR experiment in the Beam Energy Scan (BES) at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = $11.5$ - $62.4$ GeV, are presented. We observe that the triangular flow signal ($v_3$) of identified hadrons exhibits similar trends as first observed for $v_2$ in Au+Au collisions, i.e. (i) mass ordering at low transverse momenta, $p_T < 2$ GeV/c, (ii) meson/baryon splitting at intermedia…
We present the directed flow measurement ($v_1$) from Au+Au collisions at $\sqrtsNN = 62$ GeV. Over the pseudorapidity range we have studied, which covers $η$ from -1.2 to 1.2 and $2.4 < |η| < 4$, the magnitude of $v_1$ for charged particles is found to increase monotonously with pseudorapidity for all centralities. No ``$v_1$ wiggle'', as predicted by various theoretical models, is observed at midrapidity. Elliptic flow ($v_2$) from moderate high $p_t$ particles ($3-6 GeV/c$) at $\sqrtsNN = 200$ GeV is presented as a function of impact parameter. It is found that models that are based on {\it…
The elliptic azimuthal anisotropy coefficient ($v_2$) is measured for charm (D$^0$) and strange (K$_\mathrm{S}^0$, $Λ$, $Ξ^-$, and $Ω^-$) hadrons, using a data sample of pPb collisions collected by the CMS experiment, at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s_{_\mathrm{NN}}} =$ 8.16 TeV. A significant positive $v_2$ signal from long-range azimuthal correlations is observed for all particle species in high-multiplicity pPb collisions. The measurement represents the first observation of possible long-range collectivity for open heavy flavor hadrons in small systems. The results suggest…
The first measurements for rapidity-odd directed flow of $Ξ$ and $Ω$ in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm {NN}}}=$ 27 and 200 GeV are reported. The coalescence sum rule is examined with various combinations of hadrons where all constituent quarks are produced, such as $K^{\!^-}\!\!({ \bar{u}}{s})$, $\bar{p}({\bar{u}\bar{u}}{\bar{d}})$, $\barΛ(\bar{u}\bar{d}\bar{s})$, $ϕ({s}{\bar{s}})$, $\barΞ^{+}(\bar{d}\bar{s}\bar{s})$, $Ω^{-}(sss)$, and $\barΩ^{+}(\bar{s}\bar{s}\bar{s})$. For such combinations, a systematic violation of the sum rule is observed with increasing difference in the electric …
We present a detailed analysis of the beam energy dependence of the mechanisms for the generation of directed and elliptic flows in Au+Au collisions focusing on the role of hadronic rescattering and spectator shadowing within a microscopic transport model JAM with different equation of state. A systematic study of the beam energy dependence is performed for Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} =2.3 - 62.4$ GeV. The transition of the dynamical origin of the directed flow is observed. We find that the initial Glauber type nucleon-nucleon collisions generate negative $v_1$ for nucleons at midrapidi…
The splitting of elliptic flow measured in different regions of the momentum space of produced hadrons has been recently studied in transport models and proposed as a sensitive probe of the angular momentum carried by the fireball produced in a relativistic heavy ion collision. The initial state angular momentum also gives rise to rapidity odd directed flow which has been measured. We consider a relativistic hydrodynamic framework with the initial matter distribution suitably calibrated to describe the observed directed flow and apply it to study the spilt in the elliptic flow. Our study sugge…
In this paper we propose to thoroughly investigate asymmetric nuclear collisions both in the fixed target mode at the laboratory energy below 5 GeV per nucleon and in the collider mode with a center of mass energy below 11 GeV per nucleon. Using the UrQMD transport model, we demonstrate a strong enhancement of directed and elliptic flow coefficients for the midcentral asymmetric nuclear collisions compared to symmetric collisions. We argue that such an enhancement is due to the disappearance of the nuclear shadowing effect on the side of the smaller projectile nucleus. An analysis of the energ…
Collective flow reflects dynamical evolution in high-energy heavy ion collisions. In particular, the strange hadron elliptic flow reflects early collision dynamics. We present results from a systematic analysis of the centrality dependence of strange hadron elliptic flow ($v_2$) measurement of $K_{S}^{0}$, $Λ$ and $Ξ$ for Cu + Cu collisions at 200 GeV. Results for Cu + Cu collisions are compared with results previously reported for Au + Au collisions. We will also compare our data with results from ideal hydrodynamic calculations.
The elliptic flow of electrons from heavy-flavour hadron decays at mid-rapidity ($|y|$ $<$ 0.7) is measured in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 2.76$ TeV with ALICE at the LHC. The particle azimuthal distribution with respect to the reaction plane can be parametrized with a Fourier expansion, where the second coefficient ($v_{\rm 2}$) represents the elliptic flow. The $v_{\rm 2}$ coefficient of inclusive electrons is measured in three centrality classes (0-10%, 10-20% and 20-40%) with the event plane and the scalar product methods in the transverse momentum ($p_{\rm T}$) intervals 0.5-…
We present a calculation of the elliptic flow of electrons from beauty-hadron decays in semi-central Pb--Pb collisions at centre-of-mass energy per colliding nucleon pair, represented as $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$, of 2.76 TeV. The result is obtained by the subtraction of the charm quark contribution in the elliptic flow of electrons from heavy-flavour hadron decays in semi-central Pb--Pb collisions at \snn = 2.76 TeV recently made publicly available by the ALICE collaboration.
The elliptic flow, $v_{2}$, of muons from heavy-flavour hadron decays at forward rapidity ($2.5 < y < 4$) is measured in Pb--Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$~=~2.76 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The scalar product, two- and four-particle $Q$ cumulants and Lee-Yang zeros methods are used. The dependence of the $v_2$ of muons from heavy-flavour hadron decays on the collision centrality, in the range 0--40\%, and on transverse momentum, $p_{\rm T}$, is studied in the interval $3 < p_{\rm T} < 10$~GeV/$c$. A positive $v_2$ is observed with the scalar product and two-particle $Q$ cumu…
We present the ALICE results on the nuclear modification factor and elliptic flow of electrons and muons from open heavy-flavour hadron decays at mid-rapidity and forward rapidity in Pb--Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 2.76 and 5.02 TeV for different centrality intervals. The results are compared to model calculations that include interactions of heavy quarks with the medium.
We extend our POWLANG transport setup for the modelling of heavy-flavour production in heavy-ion collisions to the case of full 3+1 simulations, dropping the approximation of longitudinal boost-invariance of the background medium. This enables us to provide predictions for observables for which the rapidity dependence is essential in order to obtain a non-vanishing signal, like the directed flow $v_1$, and to get reliable results also for kinematic distributions of heavy-flavour particles at forward rapidity. We compare our predictions with experimental data obtained in Au-Au and Pb-Pb collisi…
The effect of hadronic rescattering on the elliptic flow has been investigated by the Cooper-Frye hadronization model from hydrodynamic evolution following by the afterburner hadronic rescattering model for 200 GeV/c Au + Au at 20-40% centrality. It is found that the hadronic rescattering can suppress elliptic flow $v_2$ in momentum space especially in lower transverse momentum region. In addition, the hadronic rescattering effects on transverse momentum spectra and anisotropy coordinate space of hadrons are studied.
The first measurement at the LHC of charge-dependent directed flow ($v_{1}$) relative to the spectator plane is presented for Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV. Results are reported for charged hadrons and $\rm D^{0}$ mesons for the transverse momentum intervals $p_{\rm T}>0.2$ GeV/$c$ and $3<p_{\rm T}<$ 6 GeV/$c$ in the 5-40% and 10-40% centrality classes, respectively. The difference between the positively and negatively charged hadron $v_{1}$ has a positive slope as a function of pseudorapidity $η$, ${\rm d}Δ{v_1}/{\rm d}η=$[1.68 $\pm$ 0.49 (stat.) $\pm$ 0.41 (syst.)] $\tim…
Elliptic flow of hadrons observed at relativistic heavy-ion collision experiments at Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC) and Large Hadron Collider (LHC), provides us an important signature of possible de-confinement transition from hadronic phase to partonic phase. However, hadronization processes of de-confined partons back into final hadrons are found to play a vital role in the observed hadronic flow. In the present work, we use coalescence mechanism also known as Recombination (ReCo) to combine quarks into hadrons. To get there, we have used Boltzmann transport equation in relaxation ti…
Within the framework of a multiphase transport (AMPT) model that includes both initial partonic and final hadronic interactions, we show that including mean-field potentials in the hadronic phase leads to a splitting of the elliptic flows of particles and their antiparticles, providing thus a plausible explanation of the different elliptic flows between $p$ and ${\bar p}$, $K^+$ and $K^-$, and $π^+$ and $π^-$ observed in recent Beam Energy Scan (BES) program at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC).
The measurement of the elliptic flow, $v_{2}$, provides a powerful tool for studying the properties of hot and dense medium created in high-energy nuclear collisions. We present the measurement of $v_{2}$ of multi-strange hadrons ($ϕ$, $Ξ$ and $Ω$) in $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$= 200 GeV Au + Au collisions at STAR. In minimum-bias Au + Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV, a significant amount of elliptic flow, almost identical to other mesons and baryons, is observed for multi-strange hadrons. Experimental observations of $p_{T}$ dependence of $v_{2}$ of identified particles at RHIC support partoni…
We report on the first evidence for a non-zero rapidity-odd directed flow ($v_{1}$) for $D^{0}$ and $\overline{D^{0}}$ mesons in 10-80\% centrality Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 200~GeV measured with the STAR detector at RHIC. The slope of the $v_1$ rapidity dependence ($dv_{1}/dy$) averaged over $D^{0}$ and $\overline{D^{0}}$ mesons is -0.081 $\pm$ 0.021 $\pm$ 0.017, while that of charged kaons is -0.0030 $\pm$ 0.0001 $\pm$ 0.0002, suggesting significantly larger slope for the $D^{0}$ mesons. Models indicate that the large $dv_{1}/dy$ of $D^{0}$ mesons is sensitive to the initiall…
Recently the splitting of elliptic flow $v_2$ at finite rapidities has been proposed as a result of the global vorticity in non-central relativistic heavy ion collisions. In this study, we find that this left-right (i.e., on opposite sides of the impact parameter axis) splitting of the elliptic flow at finite rapidities is a result of the non-zero directed flow $v_1$, with the splitting magnitude $\approx 8v_1(1-3v_2)/(3π)$. We also use a multi-phase transport model, which automatically includes the vorticity field and flow fluctuations, to confirm the $v_2$ splitting. In addition, we find tha…
Directed and elliptic flow of light nuclei and hypernuclei in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}}=3$ GeV: Coalescence vs. Statistical Fragmentation
We study the elliptic flow coefficient v_2(eta,b) in Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s)=200 A GeV as a function of pseudorapidity eta and impact parameter b. Using a hybrid approach which combines early ideal fluid dynamical evolution with late hadronic rescattering, we demonstrate strong dissipative effects from the hadronic rescattering stage on the elliptic flow. With Glauber model initial conditions, hadronic dissipation is shown to be sufficient to fully explain the differences between measured v_2 values and ideal hydrodynamic predictions. Initial conditions based on the Color Glass Condensate …
The first measurement of the $ρ^{0}$ - vector meson elliptic flow $v_{2}$ at mid-rapidity ($|y |$ $<$ 0.5) in $40 - 80$ $%$ centrality in $Au+Au$ collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 200$ GeV from the STAR experiment at RHIC is presented. The study is through the $π^{+} π^{-}$ hadronic decay channel of $ρ^{0}$ which has a branching ratio of $\sim$ 100 %. The analysis is being carried out in two different methods. The $v_{2}$ results obtained in these methods are consistent. Number of Constituent Quark (NCQ) scaling of $v_{2}$ of $ρ^{0}$ meson with respect to other hadrons at intermediate $p_{T}$ is …
We have revisited several interesting questions on how the rapidity-odd directed flow is developed in relativistic $^{197}$Au+$^{197}$Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 and 39 GeV based on a multiphase transport model. As the partonic phase evolves with time, the slope of the parton directed flow at midrapidity region changes from negative to positive as a result of the later dynamics at 200 GeV, while it remains negative at 39 GeV due to the shorter life time of the partonic phase. The directed flow splitting for various quark species due to their different initial eccentricities is obser…
Following the Boz$\dot{\textrm{e}}$k-Wyskiel parametrization tilted initial condition, an alternative way to construct a longitudinal tilted fireball based on the Glauber collision geometry is presented. This longitudinal tilted initial condition combined with the Ideal-CLVisc (3 + 1)D hydrodynamic model, a nonvanishing directed flow coefficient $v_{1}$ in a wide rapidity range is observed. After comparing the model's results with experimentally observed data of directed flow coefficient $v_{1}(η)$ from $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV Cu + Cu, Au + Au collisions at RHIC energy to $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 2…
Hadron resonance gas models provide a good description of the equation of state of quantum chromodynamics determined by lattice QCD calculations at temperatures $T \sim 100-155$ MeV. In this paper we investigate the effects of an exponentially increasing hadron mass spectrum (Hagedorn spectrum) on the azimuthal anisotropy of the rapidly expanding matter formed in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions. If the temperature at which the conversion from fluid degrees of freedom to hadrons is sufficiently close to the Hagedorn temperature, the production of Hagedorn resonances suppresses the differ…
We present recent results of the mid-rapidity elliptic flow ($v_2$) for multi-strange hadrons and the $ϕ$ meson as a function of centrality in Au + Au collisions at the center of mass energy $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV. The transverse momentum dependence of $ϕ$ and $Ω$ $v_2$ is similar to that of pion and proton, indicating that the heavier strange ($s$) quark flows as strongly as the lighter up ($u$) and down ($d$) quarks. These observations constitute a clear piece of evidence for the development of partonic collectivity in heavy-ion collisions at the top RHIC energy. In addition, the mass ord…
It has been proposed that strong electromagnetic fields produced in the early stages of heavy-ion collisions can lead to splitting of the rapidity-odd directed flow of positive and negative hadrons. For light hadrons, the interpretation of such measurements is complicated by the low magnitude of directed flow as well as by ambiguities arising from transported quarks. To overcome these complications, we propose measurements using only hadrons carrying produced quarks ($\bar{u},\bar{d},s,\bar{s}$). We discuss how to identify the kinematics where such hadrons are produced via the coalescence mech…
Elliptic flow signals the presence of multiple interactions between the constituents of the created matter in heavy-ion collisions. This includes possible contributions from the different phases, including the hadronic phase. In these proceedings I will first show that the energy dependence of elliptic flow, based on recent ALICE and STAR beam energy scan measurements, can largely be understood in terms of a boosted thermal system. In addition, a detailed comparison between the identified particle elliptic flow measured by the ALICE collaboration and viscous hydrodynamical model calculations w…
We use an event-by-event hydrodynamical description of the heavy-ion collision process with Glauber initial conditions to calculate the thermal emission of photons. The photon rates in the hadronic phase follow from a spectral function approach and a density expansion, while in the partonic phase they follow from the AMY perturbative rates. The calculated photon elliptic flows are lower than those reported recently by both the ALICE and PHENIX collaborations.
We analyze the directed flow of protons and pions in high-energy heavy-ion collisions in the incident energy range from $\sqrt{s_{\scriptscriptstyle NN}}=7.7$ to 27 GeV within a microscopic transport model. Standard hadronic transport approaches do not describe the collapse of directed flow below $\sqrt{s_{\scriptscriptstyle NN}}\simeq 20$ GeV. By contrast, a model which simulates effects of a softening of the equation of state, well describes the behavior of directed flow data recently obtained by the STAR Collaboration~\cite{STARv1}. We give a detailed analysis of how directed flow is genera…
We present STAR results on the elliptic flow v_2 of charged hadrons, strange and multi-strange particles from sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV Au+Au collisions at RHIC. The detailed study of the centrality dependence of v_2 over a broad transverse momentum range is presented. Comparison of different analysis methods are made in order to estimate systematic uncertainties. In order to discuss the non-flow effect, we have performed the first analysis of v_2 with the Lee-Yang Zero method for K_s^0 and Lambda. In the relatively low p_T region, p_T <= 2 GeV/c, a scaling with m_T - m is observed for identified h…
We examine whether the breakdown in elliptic flow quark number scaling observed at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) energy scan is related to the turning off of deconfinement by testing the hypothesis that hydrodynamics and parton coalescence always apply, but are obscured, at lower energies, by variations in the widths of quark and anti-quark rapidity distribution. We find that this effect is enough to spoil quark number scaling in elliptic flow. A lack of scaling in data therefore does not signal the absence of partonic degrees of freedom and hadronization by coalescence. In a coal…
In this paper, we have discussed the transverse momentum dependence of elliptic flow measured in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. The transverse momentum dependence of the number of constituent quarks ($n_{q}$) scaled $v_{2}$ is obtained for all the measured identified hadrons. The $n_{q}$ scaled $ϕ$ $v_{2}$ is found to be similar to $n_{q}$ scaled $Ω$ $v_{2}$. This indicates that both $ϕ$ and $Ω$ are produced through quark recombination at RHIC energies. We also find $n_{q}$ scaled proton $v_{2}$ ($v_{2}$ of light quarks) is higher than $n_{q}$ scaled $ϕ$ and $Ω$ $v_{2}$ ($v_{2}$ of strange…
Recent measurements of elliptic flow (v_2) and the nuclear modification factor (R_{CP}) of strange mesons and baryons in the intermediate p_T domain in Au+Au collisions demonstrate a scaling with the number of constituent-quarks. This suggests hadron production via quark coalescence from a thermalized parton system. Measuring the elliptic flow of charmed hadrons, which are believed to originate rather from fragmentation than from coalescence processes, might therefore change our view of hadron production in heavy ion collisions. While direct v_2 measurements of charmed hadrons are currently no…
