In this paper, we have discussed the transverse momentum dependence of elliptic flow measured in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. The transverse momentum dependence of the number of constituent quarks ($n_{q}$) scaled $v_{2}$ is obtained for all the measured identified hadrons. The $n_{q}$ scaled $ϕ$ $v_{2}$ is found to be similar to $n_{q}$ scaled $Ω$ $v_{2}$. This indicates that both $ϕ$ and $Ω$ are produced through quark recombination at RHIC energies. We also find $n_{q}$ scaled proton $v_{2}$ ($v_{2}$ of light quarks) is higher than $n_{q}$ scaled $ϕ$ and $Ω$ $v_{2}$ ($v_{2}$ of strange quarks) at $p_{T}/n_{q}$ $<$ 1.0 GeV/c. This can be explained by considering quark $v_{2}$ is proportional to its transverse kinetic energy considering mass of deconfined light and strange quarks equal to $\sim $4 MeV and $\sim$ 140 MeV, respectively.
Elliptic flow of hadrons observed at relativistic heavy-ion collision experiments at Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC) and Large Hadron Collider (LHC), provides us an important signature of possible de-confinement transition from hadronic phase to partonic phase. However, hadronization processes of de-confined partons back into final hadrons are found to play a vital role in the observed hadronic flow. In the present work, we use coalescence mechanism also known as Recombination (ReCo) to combine quarks into hadrons. To get there, we have used Boltzmann transport equation in relaxation ti…
We study the elliptic flow coefficient v_2(eta,b) in Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s)=200 A GeV as a function of pseudorapidity eta and impact parameter b. Using a hybrid approach which combines early ideal fluid dynamical evolution with late hadronic rescattering, we demonstrate strong dissipative effects from the hadronic rescattering stage on the elliptic flow. With Glauber model initial conditions, hadronic dissipation is shown to be sufficient to fully explain the differences between measured v_2 values and ideal hydrodynamic predictions. Initial conditions based on the Color Glass Condensate …
The elliptic flows in both Cu+Cu and Au+Au collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider are studied in a multi-phase transport model. For both collisions at same reduced impact parameter and minimum bias collisions, the elliptic flow of partons in Cu+Cu collisions is about a factor of three smaller than that in Au+Au collisions at same energy. The reduction factor is similar to the ratio of the sizes of the two colliding systems and is also related to the combined effects of initial energy density and spatial elliptic deformation in the two reactions. A similar system size dependence is a…
Hadron resonance gas models provide a good description of the equation of state of quantum chromodynamics determined by lattice QCD calculations at temperatures $T \sim 100-155$ MeV. In this paper we investigate the effects of an exponentially increasing hadron mass spectrum (Hagedorn spectrum) on the azimuthal anisotropy of the rapidly expanding matter formed in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions. If the temperature at which the conversion from fluid degrees of freedom to hadrons is sufficiently close to the Hagedorn temperature, the production of Hagedorn resonances suppresses the differ…
We use an event-by-event hydrodynamical description of the heavy-ion collision process with Glauber initial conditions to calculate the thermal emission of photons. The photon rates in the hadronic phase follow from a spectral function approach and a density expansion, while in the partonic phase they follow from the AMY perturbative rates. The calculated photon elliptic flows are lower than those reported recently by both the ALICE and PHENIX collaborations.
We predict a new effect due to the presence of the global vorticity in non-central relativistic heavy-ion collisions, namely a splitting of the elliptic flow parameter $v_2$ at non-zero rapidity. The size of the splitting is proposed as a new observable that can be used to constrain the initial vortical configuration of the produced QCD matter in experiments. The new findings are demonstrated by numerical calculations employing the parton cascade model, Boltzmann Approach of MultiParton Scatterings (BAMPS), for non-central Au + Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 200 \ GeV$.
We examine whether the breakdown in elliptic flow quark number scaling observed at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) energy scan is related to the turning off of deconfinement by testing the hypothesis that hydrodynamics and parton coalescence always apply, but are obscured, at lower energies, by variations in the widths of quark and anti-quark rapidity distribution. We find that this effect is enough to spoil quark number scaling in elliptic flow. A lack of scaling in data therefore does not signal the absence of partonic degrees of freedom and hadronization by coalescence. In a coal…
A simultaneous blast-wave fit to particle yields and elliptic flow ($v_{2}$) measured as a function of transverse momentum in Pb-Pb collisions at LHC energies is presented. A compact formula for the calculation of $v_2(p_T)$ for an elliptic freeze-out surface is used which follows from the Cooper-Frye ansatz without further assumptions. Over the full available $p_T$ range, the $Υ$ elliptic flow data is described by the prediction based on the fit to lighter particles. This prediction shows that, due to the large $Υ$ mass, a sizable elliptic flow is only expected at transverse momenta above 10 …
The effect of hadronic rescattering on the elliptic flow has been investigated by the Cooper-Frye hadronization model from hydrodynamic evolution following by the afterburner hadronic rescattering model for 200 GeV/c Au + Au at 20-40% centrality. It is found that the hadronic rescattering can suppress elliptic flow $v_2$ in momentum space especially in lower transverse momentum region. In addition, the hadronic rescattering effects on transverse momentum spectra and anisotropy coordinate space of hadrons are studied.
Based on the (3+1)-dimensional hydrodynamic model, the space-time evolution of hot and dense nuclear matter produced in non-central relativistic heavy-ion collisions is discussed. The elliptic flow parameter v_2 is obtained by Fourier analysis of the azimuthal distribution of pions and protons which are emitted from the freeze-out hypersurface. As a function of rapidity, the pion and proton elliptic flow parameters both have a peak at midrapidity.
Hadronic resonances, having very short lifetime, like $\rm{K}^{*0}$, can act as useful probes to understand and estimate lifetime of hadronic phase in ultra-relativistic proton-proton, p--Pb and heavy-ion collisions. Resonances with relatively longer lifetime, like $ϕ$ meson, can serve as a tool to locate the QGP phase boundary. We estimate a lower limit of hadronic phase lifetime in Cu--Cu and Au--Au collisions at RHIC, and in pp, p--Pb and Pb--Pb collisions at different LHC collision energies. Also, we obtain the effective temperature of $ϕ$ meson using Boltzmann-Gibbs Blast-Wave function, w…
Within the framework of a multiphase transport (AMPT) model that includes both initial partonic and final hadronic interactions, we show that including mean-field potentials in the hadronic phase leads to a splitting of the elliptic flows of particles and their antiparticles, providing thus a plausible explanation of the different elliptic flows between $p$ and ${\bar p}$, $K^+$ and $K^-$, and $π^+$ and $π^-$ observed in recent Beam Energy Scan (BES) program at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC).
It is shown that the recently developed hybrid code VISHNU, which couples a relativistic viscous fluid dynamical description of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) with a microscopic Boltzmann cascade for the late hadronic rescattering stage, yields an excellent description of charged and identified hadron spectra and elliptic flow measured in 200 A GeV Au+Au collisions at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC). Using initial conditions that incorporate event-by-event fluctuations in the initial shape and orientation of the collision fireball and values eta/s for the specific shear viscosity of t…
A transport model is developed to describe hadron emission from a strongly coupled quark-gluon plasma formed in relativistic heavy ion collisions. The quark-gluon plasma is controlled by ideal hydrodynamics, and the hadron motion is characterized by a transport equation with loss and gain terms. The two sets of equations are coupled to each other, and the hadronization hypersurface is determined by both the hydrodynamic evolution and the hadron emission. The model is applied to calculate the transverse momentum distributions of mesons and baryons, and most of the results agree well with the ex…
Using the (2+1)-dimensional viscous hydrodynamic code VISH2+1, we present systematic studies of the dependence of pion and proton transverse momentum spectra and their elliptic flow in 200 A GeV Au+Au collisions on the parameters of the hydrodynamic model (thermalization time, initial entropy density distribution, decoupling temperature, equation of state, and specific shear viscosity eta/s). We identify a tension between the slope of the proton spectra, which (within hydrodynamic simulations that assume a constant shear viscosity to entropy density ratio) prefer larger eta/s values, and the s…
A comprehensive viscous hydrodynamic fit of spectra and elliptic flow for charged hadrons and identified pions and protons from Au+Au collisions of all centralities measured at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider is performed and used as the basis for predicting the analogous observables for Pb+Pb collisions at the Large Hadron Collider at sqrt(s)=2.76 and 5.5 A TeV. Comparison with recent measurements of the elliptic flow of charged hadrons by the ALICE experiment shows that the model slightly over-predicts the data if the same (constant) specific shear viscosity eta/s is assumed at both coll…
Strange hadrons, especially multi-strange hadrons are good probes for the early partonic stage of heavy ion collisions due to their small hadronic cross sections. In this paper, I give a brief review on the elliptic flow measurements of strange and multi-strange hadrons in relativistic heavy ion collisions at Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and Large Hadron Collider (LHC).
In this proceeding, we present the new precise directed flow $v_{1}$, measurement of $π$, $K$, $p$ and $ϕ$ in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 27, 54.4 GeV and deuteron at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 7.7, 11.5, 14.5 and 19.6 GeV. The first measurement of pseudorapidity and centrality dependence of the $v_{1}$ of high-$p_{T}$ ($>$5 GeV/$c$) charged hadrons in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 200 GeV are reported. The elliptic flow $v_{2}$, of identified hadrons ($π$, $K$, $p$, $ϕ$, $K^{0}_{S}$, $Λ$, $Ξ$, $Ω$) in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 54.4 GeV are also presented. …
Based on the framework of an extended multiphase transport model with mean-field potentials in both the partonic phase and the hadronic phase, we explain the elliptic flow difference between $π^+$ and $π^-$ in the beam-energy scan program at the relativistic heavy-ion collider by incorporating the vector-isovector potential for quarks and antiquarks with different isospins. It is found that the isospin splitting of pion elliptic flow favors a strong vector-isovector interaction, and thus serves as a probe of the quark matter equation of state as well as the QCD phase structure at finite baryon…
Transverse spherocity is an event shape observable, which separates the events based on their geometrical shapes. In this work, we use transverse spherocity to study the identified light flavor production in heavy-ion collisions using A Multi-Phase Transport (AMPT) model. We obtain the elliptic flow coefficients for pions, kaons and protons in Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}} = 5.02$ TeV as a function of transverse spherocity and collision centrality. Also, we study the number of constituent-quark (NCQ) scaling of elliptic flow which interprets the dominance of the quark degrees of free…
Using the newly developed hybrid model VISHNU which connects viscous hydrodynamics with a hadron cascade model, we study the differential and integrated elliptic flow v_2 at different centrality bins for 200 A GeV Au+Au collisions and 2.76 A TeV Pb+Pb collisions. We find that the average Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP) specific shear viscosity eta/s slightly increases from Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) to Large Hadron Collider (LHC) energies. However, a further study assuming different temperature dependencies for (eta/s)_QGP shows that one cannot uniquely constrain the form of (eta/s)_QGP(T…
We investigate the transverse dynamics in Au+Au collisions at \sqrt{s_NN}=200 GeV by emphasis upon the interplay between soft and hard components through p_T dependences of particle spectra, ratios of yields, suppression factors, and elliptic flow for identified hadrons. From hydrodynamics combined with traversing minijets which go through jet quenching in the hot medium, we calculate interactions of hard jets with the soft hydrodynamic components. It is shown by the explicit dynamical calculations that the hydrodynamic radial flow and the jet quenching of hard jets are the keys to understand …
We analyze the second Fourier coefficient $v_2$ of the pion azimuthal distribution in non-central heavy-ion collisions in a relativistic hydrodynamic model. The exact treatment of the decay kinematics of resonances leads to almost vanishing azimuthal anisotropy of pions near the midrapidity, while the matter elliptic flow is in-plane at freeze-out. In addition, we reproduce the rapidity dependence of $v_2$ for pions measured in non-central Pb + Pb collisions at 158$A$ GeV. This suggests that resonance particles as well as stable particles constitute the in-plane flow and are important ingredie…
We construct a theoretical framework to describe the evolution of heavy flavors produced in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. The in-medium energy loss of heavy quarks is described using our modified Langevin equation that incorporates both quasi-elastic scatterings and the medium-induced gluon radiation. The space-time profiles of the fireball is described by a (2+1)-dimensional hydrodynamics simulation. A hybrid model of fragmentation and coalescence is utilized for heavy quark hadronization, after which the produced heavy mesons together with the soft hadrons produced from the bulk QGP are…
We present the measurements of strange hadron elliptic flow at mid-rapidity in Au + Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 7.7 - 200 GeV using the STAR detector in the years 2010 and 2011. The transverse momentum and collision centrality dependence of elliptic flow is presented. At the intermediate transverse momentum $Ω$ baryon and $ϕ$-meson show baryon-meson separation effect similar to proton and pion for minimum-bias Au+Au collision at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ =200 GeV. This indicates formation of collective flow at the early partonic phase. The separation between baryons and mesons at intermediate tra…
I compare the first viscous hydrodynamic prediction for integrated elliptic flow in Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC with the first data released by the ALICE collaboration. These new data are found to be consistent with hydrodynamic extrapolations of RHIC data with no change in medium parameters (e.g., average viscosity). I also discuss how, in general, a precise comparison of data to theoretical calculations requires an understanding of some subtleties of the measurement -- most notably the cut on transverse momentum of the particles used and the differing sensitivities to flow fluctuations and n…
The production of light nuclei in relativistic heavy-ion collisions is well described by both the thermal model, where light nuclei are in equilibrium with all other hadron species present in a fireball, and by the coalescence model, where light nuclei are formed due to final state interactions after the fireball decays. A method is proposed to falsify one of the models. We suggest to measure a hadron-deuteron correlation function which carries information about the source of the deuterons and allows one to determine whether a deuteron is directly emitted from the fireball or if it is formed a…
Within a relativistic transport (ART) model for heavy-ion collisions, we show that the recently observed characteristic change from out-of-plane to in-plane elliptic flow of protons in mid-central Au+Au collisions as the incident energy increases is consistent with the calculated results using a stiff nuclear equation of state (K=380 MeV). We have also studied the elliptic flow of pions and the transverse momentum dependence of both the nucleon and pion elliptic flow in order to gain further insight about the collision dynamics.
We simulate the dynamics of Au+Au collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) with a hybrid model that treats the dense early quark-gluon plasma (QGP) stage macroscopically as an ideal fluid, but models the dilute late hadron resonance gas (HG) microscopically using a hadronic cascade. By comparing with a pure hydrodynamic approach we identify effects of hadronic viscosity on the transverse momentum spectra and differential elliptic flow v_2(p_T). We investigate the dynamical origins of the observed mass-ordering of v_2(p_T) for identified hadrons, focusing on dissipative effects …
We present a transport theoretical analysis of hadron attenuation in deep inelastic lepton scattering (DIS) off complex nuclei in the kinematic regime of the HERMES experiment. The HERMES data indicate the presence of strong prehadronic final state interactions shortly after the elementary lepton-nucleon interaction. The contribution of such (pre-)hadronic final state interactions to the observed jet quenching in ultra-relaticistic heavy ion collisions (HIC) at RHIC is estimated under the assumption that a similar space-time picture for hadronization also holds in a hot hadronic medium. Our re…
Collective flow reflects dynamical evolution in high-energy heavy ion collisions. In particular, the strange hadron elliptic flow reflects early collision dynamics. We present results from a systematic analysis of the centrality dependence of strange hadron elliptic flow ($v_2$) measurement of $K_{S}^{0}$, $Λ$ and $Ξ$ for Cu + Cu collisions at 200 GeV. Results for Cu + Cu collisions are compared with results previously reported for Au + Au collisions. We will also compare our data with results from ideal hydrodynamic calculations.
We present the measurement of centrality dependence of multi-strange hadron ($Ω$, $Ξ$ and $ϕ$) elliptic flow ($v_{2}$) at mid-rapidity in Au+Au collision at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV. We investigate number-of-constituents quark (NCQ) scaling of identified hadrons $v_{2}$ for different collision centralities. Maximum deviation from ideal NCQ scaling observed at the level of 10% for centrality 30-80$%$ at $(m_{T} - m_{0})/n_{q}$ $>$ 0.6 GeV/$c^{2}$. This may indicate smaller contribution to the collectivity from the partonic phase in the peripheral collisions. We also observe the mass ordering o…
Elliptic flow ($v_2$) measurements of inclusive charged hadrons at mid-rapidity ($|η| <$ 1.0) in Au+Au collisions at $E_{lab} = 35\mathrm{~A~GeV}$ using the Parton Hadron String Dynamics (PHSD) model are presented as a function of centrality, transverse momentum ($p_\mathrm{T}$) and pseudo-rapidity ($η$). The $v_2$ results are obtained using the $η$-sub event plane method with respect to event plane angle ($ψ_{2}$) and participant plane angle ($ψ_{2}^{PP}$). $p_\mathrm{T}$-integrated charged hadron $v_2$ shows a strong centrality dependence in Au+Au collisions at $E_{lab} = 35\mathrm{~A~GeV}$.…
Based on the extended hadronic transport model of relativistic heavy-ion collisions, the incompressibility of dense hadronic matter created in relativistic Au+Au heavy-ion collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 3$ GeV is studied. By comparing experimental proton directed flow, productions of strange hadrons $ϕ$, $K^{-}$ as well as their ratio $ϕ/K^{-}$, proton high-order cumulants to the model calculations, a large incompressibility of dense hadronic matter is obtained from nucleon observabels while a rather small incompressibility is needed to fit the data of strange hadrons. This may indicate hadron…
We develop for charmed hadron production in relativistic heavy-ion collisions a comprehensive coalescence model that includes an extensive set of $s$ and $p$-wave hadronic states as well as the strict energy-momentum conservation, which ensures the boost invariance of the coalescence probability and the thermal limit of the produced hadron spectrum. By combining our hadronization scheme with an advanced Langevin-hydrodynamics model that incorporates both elastic and inelastic energy loss of heavy quarks inside the dynamical quark-gluon plasma, we obtain a successful description of the $p_\math…
A hybrid (hydrodynamics + hadronic transport) theoretical framework is assembled to model the bulk dynamics of relativistic heavy-ion collisions at energies accessible in the Beam Energy Scan (BES) program at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC) and the NA61/SHINE experiment at CERN. The system's energy-momentum tensor and net baryon current are evolved according to relativistic hydrodynamics with finite shear viscosity and non-zero net baryon diffusion. Our hydrodynamic description is matched to a hadronic transport model in the dilute region. With this fully integrated theoretical fram…
We investigate the influence of a temperature-dependent shear viscosity over entropy density ratio eta/s on the transverse momentum spectra and elliptic flow of hadrons in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions. We find that the elliptic flow in sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV Au+Au collisions at RHIC is dominated by the viscosity in the hadronic phase and in the phase transition region, but largely insensitive to the viscosity of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP). At the highest LHC energy, the elliptic flow becomes sensitive to the QGP viscosity and insensitive to the hadronic viscosity.
We investigate the suppression factor and the azimuthal correlation function for high $p_T$ hadrons in central Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=200$ GeV by using a dynamical model in which hydrodynamics is combined with explicitly traveling jets. We study the effects of parton energy loss in a hot medium, intrinsic $k_T$ of partons in a nucleus, and $p_{\perp}$ broadening of jets on the back-to-back correlations of high $p_T$ hadrons. Parton energy loss is found to be a dominant effect on the reduction of the away-side peaks in the correlation function.
In these proceedings, we present the measurements of elliptic ($v_2$) and triangular ($v_3$) flow of (multi-)strange hadrons and $ϕ$ mesons in 19.6 and 14.6 GeV Au+Au collisions from STAR. The number of constituent quark (NCQ) scaling of $v_2$ and $v_3$ holds well at $\sqrt{ s_{\mathrm{ NN }} } $ = 19.6 GeV, which indicates the collective flow is built up in the partonic stage. At these energies, the anti-particles show better NCQ scaling than the particles for both $v_2$ and $v_3$, which may be caused by the different contributions from the produced and transported quarks.
With the parameters fitted by the particle multiplicity, the energy density at chemical freeze-out, and the charged particle elliptic flow, we have studied the effects of the hadronic mean-field potentials on the Hanbury-Brown and Twiss (HBT) correlation in relativistic heavy-ion collisions based on a multiphase transport model. The hadronic mean-field potentials are found to delay the emission time of the system and lead to large HBT radii extracted from the correlation function. Effects on the energy dependence of $R_o^2-R_s^2$ and $R_{o}/ R_{s}$ as well as the eccentricity of the emission s…
We report the elliptic flow ($v_{2}$) of $K_{s}^{0}$, $Λ$, $\barΛ$, $ϕ$, $Ξ^{-}$, and $\overlineΞ^{+}$ at mid-rapidity for Ru+Ru and Zr+Zr collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm {NN}}}$ = 200 GeV. The transverse momentum ($p_{T}$) and centrality dependence of $v_{2}$ have been studied. The number of constituent quark (NCQ) scaling for all the (multi-)strange hadrons has also been tested. The dependence in the ratio of average $v_{2}$ ($\langle$$v_{2}$$\rangle$) on centrality shows a deviation from unity indicating a difference in nuclear structure and deformation between the isobars. The results show…
The bulk motion of nuclear matter at the ultra-high temperatures created in heavy-ion collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider and the Large Hadron Collider is well described in terms of nearly inviscid hydrodynamics, thereby establishing this system of quarks and gluons as the most perfect fluid in nature. A revolution in the field is underway, spearheaded by the discovery of similar collective, fluid-like phenomena in much smaller systems including p+p, p+A, d+Au, and $^3$He$+$Au collisions. We review these exciting new observations and their implications.
We present a calculation of the elliptic flow of electrons from beauty-hadron decays in semi-central Pb--Pb collisions at centre-of-mass energy per colliding nucleon pair, represented as $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$, of 2.76 TeV. The result is obtained by the subtraction of the charm quark contribution in the elliptic flow of electrons from heavy-flavour hadron decays in semi-central Pb--Pb collisions at \snn = 2.76 TeV recently made publicly available by the ALICE collaboration.
We present the ALICE results on the nuclear modification factor and elliptic flow of electrons and muons from open heavy-flavour hadron decays at mid-rapidity and forward rapidity in Pb--Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 2.76 and 5.02 TeV for different centrality intervals. The results are compared to model calculations that include interactions of heavy quarks with the medium.
An expanding fireball model with two freeze-outs, which assumes that the chemical freeze-out occurs earlier at higher temperature and the thermal freeze-out occurs later at lower temperature, is developed and successfully applied to fit simultaneously the hadron ratios, transverse momentum spectra of measured hadrons and rapidity distribution of charged hadrons measured in Au+Au collision at 200 A$\cdot$GeV by STAR, PHENIX and PHOBOS collaborations. The quality of all the fittings is very good and the resulting parameters are in agreement with published values.
We update briefly our understanding of hadron production in relativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions in terms of statistical models with emphasis on the relation of the data to the QCD phase boundary and on a puzzle in the beam energy dependence.
The elliptic flow of electrons from beauty hadron decays at midrapidity ($|y|$ $<$ 0.8) is measured in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The azimuthal distribution of the particles produced in the collisions can be parameterized with a Fourier expansion, in which the second harmonic coefficient represents the elliptic flow, $v_{\rm 2}$. The $v_{\rm 2}$ coefficient of electrons from beauty-hadron decays is measured for the first time in the transverse momentum ($p_{\rm{T}}$) range 1.3-6 GeV/$c$ in the centrality class 30-50%. The measurement …
Estimates for elliptic flow in collisions of polarized light nuclei with spin $j\ge1$ with a heavy nucleus are presented. In such collisions the azimuthal symmetry is broken via polarization of the wave function of the light nucleus, resulting in nonzero one-body elliptic flow coefficient evaluated relative to the polarization axis. Our estimates involve experimentally well known features of light nuclei, such as their quadrupole moment and the charge radius, yielding the one-body elliptic flow coefficient in the range from 1\% for collisions with the deuteron to 5\% for for collisions with $^…
Elliptic ($v_2$) and triangular ($v_3$) anisotropic flow coefficients for inclusive and identified charged hadrons (~$π^\pm$, $K^\pm$, $p$, $\bar{p}$~) at midrapidity in Au+Au collisions, measured by the STAR experiment in the Beam Energy Scan (BES) at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = $11.5$ - $62.4$ GeV, are presented. We observe that the triangular flow signal ($v_3$) of identified hadrons exhibits similar trends as first observed for $v_2$ in Au+Au collisions, i.e. (i) mass ordering at low transverse momenta, $p_T < 2$ GeV/c, (ii) meson/baryon splitting at intermedia…
The elliptic azimuthal anisotropy coefficient ($v_2$) is measured for charm (D$^0$) and strange (K$_\mathrm{S}^0$, $Λ$, $Ξ^-$, and $Ω^-$) hadrons, using a data sample of pPb collisions collected by the CMS experiment, at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s_{_\mathrm{NN}}} =$ 8.16 TeV. A significant positive $v_2$ signal from long-range azimuthal correlations is observed for all particle species in high-multiplicity pPb collisions. The measurement represents the first observation of possible long-range collectivity for open heavy flavor hadrons in small systems. The results suggest…
The measurement of the elliptic flow, $v_{2}$, provides a powerful tool for studying the properties of hot and dense medium created in high-energy nuclear collisions. We present the measurement of $v_{2}$ of multi-strange hadrons ($ϕ$, $Ξ$ and $Ω$) in $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$= 200 GeV Au + Au collisions at STAR. In minimum-bias Au + Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV, a significant amount of elliptic flow, almost identical to other mesons and baryons, is observed for multi-strange hadrons. Experimental observations of $p_{T}$ dependence of $v_{2}$ of identified particles at RHIC support partoni…
Three-particle azimuthal correlation measurements with a high transverse momentum trigger particle are reported for pp, d+Au, and Au+Au collisions at 200 GeV by the STAR experiment. Dijet structures are observed in pp, d+Au and peripheral Au+Au collisions. An additional structure is observed in central Au+Au data, signaling conical emission of correlated charged hadrons. The conical emission angle is found to be 1.37 +- 0.02(stat) +0.06-0.07(syst), independent of pt.
Using the VISHNU hybrid model that couples (2+1)-dimensional viscous hydrodynamics to a microscopic hadronic transport model, we calculate the multiplicity, p_T spectra and elliptic flow for pions, kaons, and protons in 2.76 A TeV Pb+Pb collisions, using MC-KLN initializations with smoothed initial conditions, obtained by averaging over a large number of events. The results from our calculations are compared to data from the ALICE collaboration, showing nice agreement over several centrality bins. Using the same inputs, we predict the p_T spectra and elliptic flow for phi mesons and explore it…
We present recent results of the mid-rapidity elliptic flow ($v_2$) for multi-strange hadrons and the $ϕ$ meson as a function of centrality in Au + Au collisions at the center of mass energy $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV. The transverse momentum dependence of $ϕ$ and $Ω$ $v_2$ is similar to that of pion and proton, indicating that the heavier strange ($s$) quark flows as strongly as the lighter up ($u$) and down ($d$) quarks. These observations constitute a clear piece of evidence for the development of partonic collectivity in heavy-ion collisions at the top RHIC energy. In addition, the mass ord…
Elliptic flow signals the presence of multiple interactions between the constituents of the created matter in heavy-ion collisions. This includes possible contributions from the different phases, including the hadronic phase. In these proceedings I will first show that the energy dependence of elliptic flow, based on recent ALICE and STAR beam energy scan measurements, can largely be understood in terms of a boosted thermal system. In addition, a detailed comparison between the identified particle elliptic flow measured by the ALICE collaboration and viscous hydrodynamical model calculations w…
We present STAR results on the elliptic flow v_2 of charged hadrons, strange and multi-strange particles from sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV Au+Au collisions at RHIC. The detailed study of the centrality dependence of v_2 over a broad transverse momentum range is presented. Comparison of different analysis methods are made in order to estimate systematic uncertainties. In order to discuss the non-flow effect, we have performed the first analysis of v_2 with the Lee-Yang Zero method for K_s^0 and Lambda. In the relatively low p_T region, p_T <= 2 GeV/c, a scaling with m_T - m is observed for identified h…
Recent measurements of event-by-event elliptic flow in Au+Au collisions at sqrt(sNN) = 200 GeV exhibit large relative fluctuations of about 40~50%. The data are well described by fluctuations in the shape of the initial collision region, as estimated event-by-event with the participant eccentricity using Glauber Monte Carlo. These results, combined with the demonstrated participant eccentricity scaling of the elliptic flow across nuclear species, constitute evidence of transverse granularity in the initial matter production in these collisions.
Recent measurements of elliptic flow (v_2) and the nuclear modification factor (R_{CP}) of strange mesons and baryons in the intermediate p_T domain in Au+Au collisions demonstrate a scaling with the number of constituent-quarks. This suggests hadron production via quark coalescence from a thermalized parton system. Measuring the elliptic flow of charmed hadrons, which are believed to originate rather from fragmentation than from coalescence processes, might therefore change our view of hadron production in heavy ion collisions. While direct v_2 measurements of charmed hadrons are currently no…
This paper describes the measurement of elliptic flow for charged particles in Au+Au collisions at sqrt(sNN)=200 GeV using the PHOBOS detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). The measured azimuthal anisotropy is presented over a wide range of pseudorapidity for three broad collision centrality classes for the first time at this energy. Two distinct methods of extracting the flow signal were used in order to reduce systematic uncertainties. The elliptic flow falls sharply with increasing eta at 200 GeV for all the centralities studied, as observed for minimum-bias collisions at s…
Two particle azimuthal correlation functions are presented for charged hadrons produced in Au+Au collisions at RHIC ($\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=130$ GeV). The measurements allow for the determination of elliptic flow without event-by-event estimation of the reaction plane. The measured correlation functions indicate elliptic flow values ($v_2$) which show significant sensitivity to both the collision centrality and the transverse momenta of emitted hadrons.
