We study coherent perfect absorption (CPA) theoretically based on a weakly coupled atom-cavity system with an optically pumped second-order nonlinear crystal (SOC) embedded in the cavity. Our system does not require a strong coupling, which is often needed for CPA in previous studies but is challenging to implement experimentally in some systems. The role of the SOC is to introduce a tunable effective decay rate of the cavity, which can lead to CPA in the weak coupling regime. The proposed system exhibits bistable behaviors, with bistable patterns switchable between conventional and unconventional shapes. By varying the properties of the SOC, the operation point of CPA can be tuned to be inside or outside the bistable regime. It can also be located at the upper or the lower stable branch or even the unstable branch of the bistable hysteresis loop. It is however robust against the parameters of the SOC for any fixed effective decay rate. Our system can potentially be applied to realize optical devices such as optical switches in the weakly coupled regime.
Here, we study the controllable optical responses in a two-cavity optomechanical system, especially on the $\mathit{perfect}$ optomechanically induced transparency (OMIT) in the model which has never been studied before. The results show that the perfect OMIT can still occur even with a large mechanical damping rate, and at the perfect transparency window the long-lived slow light can be achieved. In addition, we find that the conversion between the perfect OMIT and optomechanically induced absorption can be easily achieved just by adjusting the driving field strength of the second cavity. We …
We study transfer of single photon in an one-dimensional finite Glauber-Fock cavity array whose coupling strengths satisfy a square root law. The evolved state in the array can be mapped to an upper truncated coherent state if the cavities are resonant. Appropriate choices of resonance frequencies provide perfect transfer of a photon between any two cavities in the array. Perfect transfer of the photon allows perfect quantum state transfer between the cavities. Our findings may help in realizing quantum communication and information processing in photonic lattices.
We introduce a scheme for perfect routing of quantum states and entanglement in regular cavity QED networks. The couplings between the cavities are quasi-uniform and each cavity is doped with a two-level atom. Quasi-uniform couplings leads the system to evolve in invariant subspaces. Combination the evolutions of the system in its invariant subspaces with quite simple local operations on atoms in the networks, gives the perfect routing of quantum states and entanglement through the network. To provide the protocol be robust due to decoherence arisen from photon loss, the field mode of the cavi…
We study the interaction of an atom with a quantum guided field in a weakly driven fiber-Bragg-grating (FBG) cavity. We present an effective Hamiltonian and derive the density-matrix equations for the combined atom-cavity system. We calculate the mean photon number, the second-order photon correlation function, and the atomic excited-state population. We show that, due to the confinement of the guided cavity field in the fiber cross-section plane and in the space between the FBG mirrors, the presence of the atom in the FBG cavity can significantly affect the mean photon number and the photon s…
We study the optomechanically induced amplification and perfect transparency in a double-cavity optomechanical system. We find if two control lasers with appropriate amplitudes and detunings are applied to drive the system, the phenomenon of optomechanically induced amplification for a probe laser can occur. In addition, perfect optomechanically induced transparency phenomenon, which is robust to mechanical dissipation, can be realized by the same type of drive. These results are very important for signal amplification, light storage, fast light and slow light in the quantum information proces…
Nonreciprocal devices are indispensable for building quantum networks and ubiquitous in modern communication technology. Here, we use optomechanical interaction and linearly-coupled interaction to realize optical nonreciprocal transmission in a double-cavity optomechanical system. The scheme relies on the interference between the two interactions. We derive the essential conditions to realize perfect optical nonreciprocity in the system, and analyse the properties of optical nonreciprocal transmission and the output fields from mechanical mode. These results can be used to control optical tran…
We show how to enhance the detection sensitivity of magnon Kerr nonlinearity (MKN) in cavity magnonics. The considered cavity-magnon system consists of a three-dimensional microwave cavity containing two yttrium iron garnet (YIG) spheres, where the two magnon modes (one has the MKN, while the other is linear) in YIG spheres are simultaneously coupled to microwave photons. To obtain the effective gain of the cavity mode, we feed two input fields into the cavity. By choosing appropriate parameters, the coherent perfect absorption of the two input fields occurs, and the cavity-magnon system can b…
The long coherence time of a single nitrogen vacancy (NV) center spin in diamond is a crucial advantage for implementing quantum information processing. However, the realization of strong coupling between single NV spins is challenging. Here we propose a method to greatly enchance the interaction between two single NV spins in diamond which are only weakly coupled to an electromechanical cavity. Owing to the presence of a critical point for the linearized electromechanical subsystem, the coupling between a single NV spin and the high-frequency polariton (formed by the mechanical and cavity mod…
We propose and analyze a scheme for realizing tunable coherent perfect absorption (CPA) and reflection (CPR) in a three-level $Λ$-type atom-cavity system. With EIT-type interference induced by a coherent coupling laser, the scheme provides a new method of attaining tunable near CPR at two-photon resonance. By different coupling strength, the system can be excited from linear CPA regime into nonlinear even bistable CPA regime without changing the frequency of the probe field, where the hysteresis cycle of the bistability is controllable. In addition, the CPA regime can be transferred into the n…
The squeezing properties of a cavity Second Harmonic Generation (SHG) system with an added Kerr effect-like nonlinearity are studied as a function of the intra-cavity photon number. The competition between the second and the third order non-linearities shifts the Hopf bifurcation of the standard SHG towards higher intra-cavity energies eventually completely stabilizing the system. Remarkably, the noise suppression is at the same time strongly enhanced, so that almost perfect squeezing is obtained for arbitrarily large intra-cavity photon numbers. Possible experimental implementations are final…
We propose a hybrid cavity magnomechanical system to realize and transfer the bipartite entanglements and Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) steerings between magnons, photons, and phonons in the regime of stability of the system. As a parity-time-symmetric-like structure exhibiting the natural magnetostrictive magnon-phonon interaction, our passive-active cavity system can be explored to enhance the robust distant quantum entanglement and generate the relatively obvious asymmetric (even directional) EPR steering that is useful for the task with the highly asymmetric trusts of the bidirectional loc…
We derive the effective cavity pumping and decay rates for the master equation of a quantum dot-microcavity system in presence of $N$ weakly coupled dots. We show that the in-flow of photons is not linked to the out-flow by thermal equilibrium relationships.
We analyze a scheme for controlling coherent photon absorption by cavity electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in a three-level atom-cavity system. Coherent perfect absorption (CPA) can occur when time-reversed symmetry of lasing process is obtained and destructive interference happens at the cavity interfaces. Generally, the frequency range of CPA is dependent on the decay rates of cavity mirrors. When the control laser is settled, the smaller cavity decay rate causes the wider frequency range of CPA, and the input intensity is larger to satisfy CPA condition for a given frequency. W…
A practical scheme for the demonstration of perfect one-sided device-independent quantum secret sharing is proposed. The scheme involves a three-mode optomechanical system in which a pair of independent cavity modes is driven by short laser pulses and interact with a movable mirror. We demonstrate that by tuning the laser frequency to the blue (anti-Stokes) sideband of the average frequency of the cavity modes, the modes become mutually coherent and then may collectively steer the mirror mode to a perfect Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen state. The scheme is shown to be experimentally feasible, it is r…
We use the scattering matrix formalism to analyze photon blockade in coherently-driven CQED systems with a weak drive. By approximating the weak coherent drive by an input single- and two-photon Fock state, we reduce the computational complexity of the transmission and the two-photon correlation function from exponential to polynomial in the number of emitters. This enables us to easily analyze cavity-based systems containing $\sim$50 quantum emitters with modest computational resources. Using this approach we study the coherence statistics of polaritonic photon blockade while increasing the n…
We investigate a system composed of $N$ coupled cavities and two-level atoms interacting one at a time. Adjusting appropriately the atom-field detuning, and make the hopping rate of photons between neighboring cavities, $A$, greater than the atom-field coupling $g$ (i.e. $A>>g$), we can eliminate the interaction of the atom with the nonresonant normal modes reducing the dynamics to the interaction of the atom with only a single-mode. As an application of this interaction, we analyze the transmission of an arbitrary atomic quantum state between distant coupled cavities. In the ideal case, we ob…
In recent studies [Liew et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 104, 183601 (2010); Bamba et al., Phys. Rev. A 83, 021802(R) (2011)], due to destructive interference between different paths for two-photon excitation, strong photon antibunching can be obtained in a photonic molecule consisting of two coupled cavity modes with weak Kerr nonlinearity when one of the cavity modes is driven resonantly. Here, we study the photon statistics in a nonlinear photonic molecule with both the two cavity modes being driven coherently. We show that the statistical properties of the photons can be controlled by regulating t…
We study the photon-photon correlation properties of two-photon transport in a one-dimensional waveguide coupled to a nonlinear cavity via a real-space approach. It is shown that the intrinsic dissipation of the nonlinear cavity has an important effect upon the correlation of the transported photons. More importantly, strongly correlated photons can be obtained in the transmitted photons even when the nonlinear interaction strength is weak in the cavity. The strong photon-photon correlation is induced by the Fano resonance involving destructive interference between the plane wave and bound sta…
We propose a scheme for the resonant generation of counter-polarized single photons in double asymmetric cavities with a small Kerr optical nonlinearity (as that created by a semiconductor quantum well) compared to the mode broadening. Due to the interplay between spatial intercavity tunneling and polarization coupling, by weakly exciting with circularly polarized light one of the cavities, we predict strong antibunching of counter-polarized light emission from the non-pumped auxiliary cavity. This scheme due to quantum interference is robust against surface scattering of pumping light, which …
We theoretically study the conditions under which two laser fields can undergo Coherent Perfect Absorption (CPA) when shined on a single-mode bi-directional optical cavity coupled with two two- level quantum emitters (natural atoms, artificial atoms, quantum dots, qubits, etc.). In addition to being indirectly coupled through the cavity-mediated field, in our Tavis-Cummings model the two quantum emitters (QEs) are allowed to interact directly via the dipole-dipole interaction (DDI). Under the mean-field approximation and low-excitation assumption, in this work, we particularly focus on the imp…
I show a scheme which allows a perfect transfer of an unknown single-qubit atomic state from one atom to another by letting two atoms interact simultaneously with a cavity QED. During the interaction between atom and cavity, the cavity is only virtually excited and accordingly the scheme is insensitive to the cavity field states and cavity decay. Based on this scheme, a network for transfer of an arbitrary single-qubit atomic state between atoms is engineered. Then the scheme is generalized to perfectly transfer an arbitrary 2-qubit atomic state and accordingly a network for transfer of an arb…
A qubit memory is the building block for quantum information. Cavity-enhanced spin-wave-photon entanglement has been achieved by applying dual-control modes. However, owing to cross readouts between the modes, the qubit retrieval efficiency is about one quarter lower than that for a single spin-wave mode at all storage times. Here, we overcome cross readouts using a multiplexed ring cavity. The cavity is embedded with a polarization interferometer, and we create a write-out photonic qubit entangled with a magnetic-field-insensitive spin-wave qubit by applying a single-mode write-laser beam to …
We investigate the fluorescence spectrum of a two-level atom in a cavity when the atom is driven by a classical field. We show that forbidden dipole transitions in the Jaynes-Cummings Ladder structure are induced in the presence of the cavity damping, which deteriorates the degree of otherwise perfect destructive interference among the transition channels. With the larger cavity decay, these transitions are more enhanced.
We derive a master equation for the motion of a polarizable particle weakly interacting with one or several strongly pumped cavity modes. We focus here on massive particles with complex internal structure such as large molecules and clusters, for which we assume a linear scalar polarizability mediating the particle-light interaction. The predicted friction and diffusion coefficients are in good agreement with former semiclassical calculations for atoms and small molecules in weakly pumped cavities, while the current rigorous quantum treatment and numerical assessment sheds a light on the feasi…
In this letter, we demonstrate that a non-Hermitian Random Matrix description can account for both spectral and spatial statistics of resonance states in a weakly open chaotic wave system with continuously distributed losses. More specifically, the statistics of resonance states in an open 2D chaotic microwave cavity are investigated by solving the Maxwell equations with lossy boundaries subject to Ohmic dissipation. We successfully compare the statistics of its complex-valued resonance states and associated widths with analytical predictions based on a non-Hermitian effective Hamiltonian mode…
We analyze the behaviour of a coherent field driving a single mode optical cavity with one perfectly reflecting moving mirror and a partially reflecting fixed mirror, and show that this system's output exhibits optical bistability due to radiation pressure acting over the moving mirror.
Single photon sources (SPS) based on semiconductor quantum dot (QD) platforms are restricted to low temperature (T) operation due to the presence of strong dephasing processes. Despite the integration of QD in optical cavities provides an enhancement of its emission properties, the technical requirements for maintaining high indistinguishability (I) at high T are beyond the state of the art. Recently, new theoretical approaches have shown promising results by implementing two-dipole-coupled-emitter systems. Here, we have developed a theory to estimate I in a two-emitter system with strong deph…
We introduce a method for calculating the stationary state of a translation invariant array of weakly coupled cavities in the presence of dissipation and coherent as well as incoherent drives. Instead of computing the full density matrix our method directly calculates the correlation functions which are relevant for obtaining all local quantities of interest. It considers an expansion of the correlation functions and their equations of motion in powers of the photon tunneling rate between adjacent cavities, leading to an exact second order solution for any number of cavities. Our method provid…
The dispersive coupling between a qubit and a cavity mode is widely used for performing non-destructive readout of the qubit state. In this approach, it is typically required that the dispersive strong coupling regime is achieved. Here we show that the use of an auxiliary cavity mode reduces by orders of magnitude the required value of the dispersive coupling, for a given decay rate of the cavity mode. The analysis is performed within the input-output formalism, in terms of the photon scattering matrix elements and of the signal-to-noise ratio. We derive simple analytical expressions for the o…
We investigate the photon pumping effect in a topological model consisting of a periodically driven spin-1/2 coupled to a quantum cavity mode out of the adiabatic limit. In the strong-drive adiabatic limit, a quantized frequency conversion of photons is expected as the temporal analog of the Hall current. We numerically establish a novel photon pumping phenomenon in the experimentally accessible nonadiabatic driving regime for a broad region of the parameter space. The photon frequency conversion efficiency exhibits strong fluctuations and high efficiency that can reach up 80% of the quantized…
We propose a quantum state readout mechanism of a weakly coupled qubit in dispersive regime. The hybrid system consists of ferromagnetic insulator and a superconducting qubit in a microwave cavity. The enhancement of the measurement sensitivity is achieved by exerting torque on the ferromagnetic insulator magnetization, which compensates the damping of the system leading to an exceptional point. The proposed machanism allows to measure the qubit state either via the transmission of the cavity or the FMR signal of the magnetic material.
The time-reversal mirror (TRM) prescribes the reverse playback of a signal to focalize an acoustic excitation as a Loschmidt echo. In the quantum domain, the perfect inverse filter (PIF) processes this signal to ensure an exact reversion provided that the excitation originated outside the cavity delimited by the transducers. We show that PIF takes a simple form when the initial excitation is created inside this cavity. This also applies to the acoustical case, where it corrects the TRM and improves the design of an acoustic bazooka. We solve an open chaotic cavity modeling a quantum bazooka an…
A pulsed cooling scheme for optomechanical systems is presented that is capable of cooling at much faster rates, shorter overall cooling times, and for a wider set of experimental scenarios than is possible by conventional methods. The proposed scheme can be implemented for both strongly and weakly coupled optomechanical systems in both weakly and highly dissipative cavities. We study analytically its underlying working mechanism, which is based on interferometric control of optomechanical interactions, and we demonstrate its efficiency with pulse sequences that are obtained by using methods f…
A system of two coupled cavities with $N-1$ photons is shown to be dynamically equivalent to an array of $N$ coupled cavities containing one photon. Every transition in the two cavity system has a dual phenomenon in terms of photon transport in the cavity array. This duality is employed to arrive at the required coupling strengths and nonlinearities in the cavity array so that controlled photon transfer is possible between any two cavities. This transfer of photons between two of the cavities in the array is effected without populating the other cavities. The condition for perfect transport en…
For some cavity-quantum-electrodynamics systems, such as a single electron spin coupled to a passive cavity, it is challenging to reach the strong-coupling regime. In such a weak-coupling regime, the conventional dispersive readout technique cannot be used to resolve the quantum states of the spin. Here we propose an improved dispersive readout method to measure the quantum states of a weakly coupled qubit by harnessing either one or two auxiliary cavities linearly coupled to the passive cavity containing the qubit. With appropriate parameters in both cases, the system excluding the qubit can …
We measure the quantum speed of the state evolution of the field in a weakly-driven optical cavity QED system. To this end, the mode of the electromagnetic field is considered as a quantum system of interest with a preferential coupling to a tunable environment: the atoms. By controlling the environment, i.e., changing the number of atoms coupled to the optical cavity mode, an environment assisted speed-up is realized: the quantum speed of the state re-population in the optical cavity increases with the coupling strength between the optical cavity mode and this non-Markovian environment (the n…
We have analyzed the quadrature squeezing in a cavity mode driven by coherent light and interacting with a two-level atom. We have found that the cavity mode is in a squeezed state, with the maximum quadrature squeezing being $50\%$ below the vacuum-state level. We have also considered the superposition of a pair of cavity modes, each driven by coherent light and interacting with a two-level atom. We have found that the superposed cavity modes are in a squeezed state and the squeezing occurs in both quadratures. We have established that the uncertainty relation perfectly holds for this case. I…
Spin ensembles with a comb-shaped spectrum have shown exciting properties as efficient quantum memories. Here, we present a rigorous theoretical study of such atomic frequency combs in the strong coupling limit of cavity QED, based on a full quantum treatment using tensor-network methods. Our results demonstrate that arbitrary multi-photon states in the cavity are almost perfectly absorbed by the spin ensemble and re-emitted as parity-flipped states at periodic time intervals. Fidelity values near unity are achieved in these revived states by compensating for energy shifts induced by the stron…
We investigate the quantum fluctuations of a single atom in a weakly driven cavity, where the center of mass motion of the atom is quantized in one dimension. We present analytic results for the second order intensity correlation function $g^{(2)}(τ)$ and the intensity-field correlation function $h_θ(τ)$, for both transmitted and fluorescent light for weak driving fields. We find that the coupling of the center of mass motion to the intracavity field mode can be deleterious to nonclassical effects in photon statistics; less so for the intensity-field correlations.
We study the photon statistics of symmetric and antisymmetric modes in a photonic molecule consisting of two linearly coupled nonlinear cavity modes. Our calculations show that strong photon antibunching of both symmetric and antisymmetric modes can be obtained even when the nonlinearity in the photonic molecule is weak. The strong antibunching effect results from the destructive interference between different paths for two-photon excitation. Moreover, we find that the optimal frequency detunings for strong photon antibunching in the symmetric and antisymmetric modes are linearly dependent on …
In this paper, we propose a scheme for the controlled teleportation of an arbitrary two-atom entangled state $|ϕ>_{12}=a|gg>_{12}+b|ge>_{12}+c|eg>_{12}+d|ee>_{12}$ in driven cavity QED. An arbitrary two-atom entangled state can be teleported perfectly with the help of the cooperation of the third side by constructing a three-atom GHZ entangled state as the controlled channel. This scheme does not involve apparent (or direct) Bell-state measurement and is insensitive to the cavity decay and the thermal field. The probability of the success in our scheme is 1.0.
We investigate steady state entanglement in an open quantum system, specifically a single atom in a driven optical cavity with cavity loss and spontaneous emission. The system reaches a steady pure state when driven very weakly. Under these conditions, there is an optimal value for atom-field coupling to maximize entanglement, as larger coupling favors a loss port due to the cavity enhanced spontaneous emission. We address ways to implement measurements of entanglement witnesses and find that normalized cross-correlation functions are indicators of the entanglement in the system. The magnitude…
Over the last decade, conditions for perfect state transfer in quantum spin chains have been discovered, and their experimental realizations addressed. In this paper, we consider an extension of such studies to quantum state transfer in a coupled cavity array including the effects of atoms in the cavities which can absorb and emit photons as they propagate down the array. Our model is equivalent to previously examined spin chains in the one-excitation sector and in the absence of emitters. We introduce a Monte Carlo approach to the inverse eigenvalue problem which allows the determination of t…
Considering ultracold atoms traversing a high-Q Fabry-Perot cavity, we theoretically demonstrate a quantum nondemolition measurement of the photon number. This fully quantum mechanical approach may be understood utilizing concepts as effective mass and group velocity of the atom. The various photon numbers induce a splitting of the atomic wave packet, and a time-of-flight measurement of the atom thereby reveals the photon number. While repeated atomic measurements increase the efficiency of the protocol, it is shown that by considering long interaction times only a few atoms are needed to reso…
We study quantum non-Markovianity in the early stage of the emission process of a two-level atom coupled to a semi-infinite waveguide, where the waveguide termination behaves as a perfect mirror. Specifically, we restrict to the analysis of the process for times shorter than twice the time delay t_d, where t_d is the duration of a round trip along the atom-mirror path. We show the emergence of a threshold in the parameters space separating the Markovian and non-Markovian regions.
We theoretically propose a photonic flash based on a linearly coupled cavity system. Via driving the two side cavities by external fields, it forms a cyclic energy-level diagram and therefore the phase difference between the driving fields acts as a controller of the steady state due to the quantum interference effect. In the optical trimer structure, we show that the perfect photonic flash can be realized in the situation of resonant driving. The perfect photonic flash scheme is furthermore generalized to multiple coupled cavity system, where the cavities with odd and even number turn bright …
Cold atoms from a magneto-optic trap have been used as a nonlinear medium in a nearly resonant cavity. Squeezing in a probe beam passing through the cavity was demonstrated. The measured noise reduction is 40% for free atoms and 20% for weakly trapped atoms.
We compute the interaction energies of a two-atom system placed in the middle of a perfectly reflecting planar cavity, in the perturbative regime. Explicit expressions are provided for the van der Waals potentials of two polarisable atomic dipoles as well as for the electrostatic potential of two induced dipoles. For the van der Waals potentials, several scenarios are considered, namely, a pair of atoms in their ground states, a pair of atoms both excited, and a pair of dissimilar atoms with one of them excited. In addition, the corresponding phase-shift of the two-atom wavefunction is calcula…
We present a semiconductor master equation technique to study the input/output characteristics of coherent photon transport in a semiconductor waveguide-cavity system containing a single quantum dot. We use this approach to investigate the effects of photon propagation and anharmonic cavity-QED for various dot-cavity interaction strengths, including weakly-coupled, intermediately-coupled, and strongly-coupled regimes. We demonstrate that for mean photon numbers much less than 0.1, the commonly adopted weak excitation (single quantum) approximation breaks down, even in the weak coupling regime.…
We investigate the quantum fluctuations of a single atom in a weakly driven cavity, with an intracavity optical lattice. The weak driving field is on resonance with the atoms and the cavity, and is the second-harmonic of the lattice beam. In this special case we can find eigenstates of the Hamiltonian in terms of Mathieu functions. We present analytic results for the second order intensity correlation function $g^{(2)}(τ)$ and the intensity-field correlation function $h_θ(τ)$, for both transmitted and fluorescent light for weak driving fields. We find that the coupling of the center of mass mot…
We investigate theoretically the model of a cavity-quantum-electrodynamics (QED) system that consists of two two-level atoms coupled to a single-mode cavity in the weak coupling regime, where the system is driven by quantum light. The dynamics behavior of the entire system is tackled in the framework of a cascaded quantum system. We find that the two-photon blockade with two-photon bunching and three-photon antibunching can be obtained even when the strong system dissipation is included. This result shows that our work has potential for realizing entangled photon pairs in a weakly coupled cavi…
A light-storage experiment with a total (storage and retrieval) efficiency $η=58 \pm 5%$ is carried out by enclosing a sample, with a single pass absorption of 10%, in an impedance-matched cavity. The experiment is carried out using the Atomic Frequency Comb (AFC) technique in a praseodymium-doped crystal ($0.05%Pr^{3+}:Y_2SiO_5$) and the cavity is created by reflection coating the crystal surfaces. The AFC technique has previously by far demonstrated the highest multi-mode capacity of all quantum memory concepts tested experimentally. We claim that the present work shows that it is realistic …
Single Cesium atoms are cooled and trapped inside a small optical cavity by way of a novel far-off-resonance dipole-force trap (FORT), with observed lifetimes of 2 to 3 seconds. Trapped atoms are observed continuously via transmission of a strongly coupled probe beam, with individual events lasting ~ 1 s. The loss of successive atoms from the trap N = 3 -> 2 -> 1 -> 0 is thereby monitored in real time. Trapping, cooling, and interactions with strong coupling are enabled by the FORT potential, for which the center-of-mass motion is only weakly dependent on the atom's internal state.
