We define a free product of connected simple graphs that is equivalent to several existing definitions when the graphs are vertex-transitive but differs otherwise. The new definition is designed for the automorphism group of the free product to be as large as possible, and we give sufficient criteria for it to be non-discrete. Finally, we transfer Tits' classification of automorphisms of trees and simplicity criterion to free products of graphs.
Inspired by the definition of generalized wreath product of permutation groups, we define the generalized wreath product of graphs, containing the classical Cartesian and wreath product of graphs as particular cases. We prove that the generalized wreath product of Cayley graphs of finite groups is the Cayley graph of the generalized wreath product of the corresponding groups.
We prove the exponential growth of product replacement graphs for a large class of groups. Much of our effort is dedicated to the study of product replacement graphs of Grigorchuk groups, where the problem is most difficult.
In this paper, we discuss the structural information about 2-arc-transitive (non-bipartite and bipartite) graphs of product action type. It is proved that a 2-arc-transitive graph of product action type requires certain restrictions on either the vertex-stabilizers or the valency. Based on the existence of some equidistant linear codes, a construction is given for 2-arc-transitive graphs of non-diagonal product action type, which produces several families of such graphs. Besides, a nontrivial construction is given for 2-arc-transitive bipartite graphs of diagonal product action type
The power graph $P(G)$ of a finite group $G$ is the graph with vertex set $G$ and two distinct vertices are adjacent if either of them is a power of the other. Here we show that the power graph $P(G_1 \times G_2)$ of the direct product of two groups $G_1$ and $G_2$ is not isomorphic to either of the direct, cartesian and normal product of their power graphs $P(G_1)$ and $P(G_2)$. A new product of graphs, namely generalized product, has been introduced and we prove that the power graph $P(G_1 \times G_2)$ is isomorphic to a generalized product of $P(G_1)$ and $P(G_2)$.
In this paper we give a recursive formula for the conjugacy growth series of a graph product in terms of the conjugacy growth and standard growth series of subgraph products. We also show that the conjugacy and standard growth rates in a graph product are equal provided that this property holds for each vertex group. All results are obtained for the standard generating set consisting of the union of generating sets of the vertex groups.
We obtain a complete classification of graph products of finite abelian groups whose Cayley graphs with respect to the standard presentations are planar.
We study $(G,2)$-arc-transitive graphs for innately transitive permutation groups $G$ such that $G$ can be embedded into a wreath product $\symΓ\wr\sy\ell$ acting in product action on $Γ^\ell$. We find two such connected graphs: the first is Sylvester's double six graph with 36 vertices, while the second is a graph with $120^2$ vertices whose automorphism group is $\aut\sp 44$. We prove that under certain conditions no more such graphs exist.
We describe an underlying right angled building structure of any graph product of buildings. We describe the automorphism group of the graph product of buildings. We show that the notion of generalized graph product of a collection of groups, each with an action on a building, corresponds to the group of automorphisms generated via lifts. It follows that if each building is finite, then the generalized graph product is residually finite.
We define graph products of families of pairs of groups and study the question when two such graph products are commensurable. As an application we prove linearity of certain graph products.
A notion of \emph{graph-wreath product} is introduced. We obtain sufficient conditions for these products to satisfy the topologically inspired finiteness condition type $\operatorname{F}_n$. Under various additional assumptions we show that these conditions are necessary. Our results generalise results of Cornulier about wreath products in case $n=2$. Graph-wreath products include classical permutational wreath products and semidirect products of right-angled Artin groups by groups of automorphisms amongst others.
We prove that the class of residually C groups is closed under taking graph products, provided that C is closed under taking subgroups, finite direct products and that free-by-C groups are residually C. As a consequence, we show that local embeddability into various classes of groups is stable under graph products. In particular, we prove that graph products of residually amenable groups are residually amenable, and that locally embeddable into amenable groups are closed under taking graph products.
Given a finite simplicial graph $Γ=(V,E)$ with a vertex-labelling $φ:V\rightarrow\left\{\text{non-trivial finitely generated groups}\right\}$, the graph product $G_Γ$ is the free product of the vertex groups $φ(v)$ with added relations that imply elements of adjacent vertex groups commute. For a quasi-isometric invariant $\mathcal{P}$, we are interested in understanding under which combinatorial conditions on the graph $Γ$ the graph product $G_Γ$ has property $\mathcal{P}$. In this article our emphasis is on number of ends of a graph product $G_Γ$. In particular, we obtain a complete character…
Weak amenability of discrete groups was introduced by Haagerup and co-authors in the 1980's. It is an approximation property known to be stable under direct products and free products. In this paper we show that graph products of weakly amenable discrete groups are weakly amenable (with Cowling-Haagerup constant 1). Along the way we construct a wall space associated to the word length structure of a graph product and also give a method for extending completely bounded functions on discrete groups to a completely bounded function on their graph product.
Given an edge-independent random graph G(n,p), we determine various facts about the cohomology of graph products of groups for the graph G(n,p). In particular, the random graph product of a sequence of finite groups is a rational duality group with probability tending to 1 as n goes to infinity. This includes random right angled Coxeter groups as a special case.
In this paper, we generalise Magnus' Freiheitssatz and solution to the word problem for one-relator groups by considering one relator quotients of certain classes of right-angled Artin groups and graph products of locally indicable polycyclic groups.
The goal of the paper "A new graph over semi-direct products of groups" is to define a graph Γ(G) on a group G when G splits over a normal subgroup. We demonstrate herein that the graph is ill-defined. We also attempt to ascertain causes for the discrepancies.
We show that any graph product of finitely generated groups is hierarchically hyperbolic relative to its vertex groups. We apply this result to answer two questions of Behrstock, Hagen, and Sisto: we show that the syllable metric on any graph product forms a hierarchically hyperbolic space, and that graph products of hierarchically hyperbolic groups are themselves hierarchically hyperbolic groups. This last result is a strengthening of a result of Berlai and Robbio by removing the need for extra hypotheses on the vertex groups. We also answer two questions of Genevois about the geometry of the…
If $G$ is a solvable group, we take $Δ(G)$ to be the character degree graph for $G$ with primes as vertices. We prove that if $Δ(G)$ is a square, then $G$ must be a direct product.
An automorphism of a graph product of groups is conjugating if it sends each factor to a conjugate of a factor (possibly different). In this article, we determine precisely when the group of conjugating automorphisms of a graph product satisfies Kazhdan's property (T) and when it satisfies some vastness properties including SQ-universality.
We construct torsion-free hyperbolic groups without unique product whose subgroups up to some given finite index are themselves non-unique product groups. This is achieved by generalising a construction of Comerford to graphical small cancellation presentations, showing that for every subgroup $H$ of a graphical small cancellation group there exists a free group $F$ such that $H*F$ admits a graphical small cancellation presentation.
A graph product kernel means the kernel of the natural surjection from a graph product to the corresponding direct product. We prove that a graph product kernel of countable groups is special, and a graph product of finite or cyclic groups is virtually cocompact special in the sense of Haglund and Wise. The proof of this yields conditions for a graph over which the graph product of arbitrary nontrivial groups (or some cyclic groups, or some finite groups) contains a hyperbolic surface group. In particular, the graph product of arbitrary nontrivial groups over a cycle of length at least five, o…
We compute: * the cohomology with group ring coefficients of Artin groups (or actually, of their associated Salvetti complexes), Bestvina-Brady groups, and graph products of groups, * the L^2-Betti numbers of Bestvina-Brady groups and of graph products of groups, * the weighted L^2-Betti numbers of graph products of Coxeter groups. In the case of arbitrary graph products there is an additional proviso: either all factors are infinite or all are finite.(However, for graph products of Coxeter groups this proviso is unnecessary.)
In this short note we classify the Cartan subalgebras in all von Neumann algebras associated with graph product groups and their free ergodic measure preserving actions on probability spaces.
This article studies automorphism groups of graph products of arbitrary groups. We completely characterise automorphisms that preserve the set of conjugacy classes of vertex groups as those automorphisms that can be decomposed as a product of certain elementary automorphisms (inner automorphisms, partial conjugations, automorphisms associated to symmetries of the underlying graph). This allows us to completely compute the automorphism group of certain graph products, for instance in the case where the underlying graph is finite, connected, leafless and of girth at least $5$. If in addition the…
We first show that the braid group over a graph topologically containing no $Θ$-shape subgraph has a presentation related only by commutators. Then using discrete Morse theory and triple Massey products, we prove that a graph topologically contains none of four prescribed graphs if and only if its 4-braid groups is a right-angled Artin group.
We find a set of generators for the automorphism group of a graph product of finitely generated abelian groups entirely from a certain labeled graph. In addition, we find generators for the important subgroup of star-automorphisms defined in [7]. We follow closely the plan of M. Laurence's paper [11].
