We investigate the effects of an analytic boundary metric for smooth asymptotically anti-de Sitter gravitational solutions. The boundary dynamics is then completely determined by the initial data due to corner conditions that all smooth solutions must obey. We perturb a number of familiar static solutions and explore the boundary dynamics that results. We find evidence for a nonlinear asymptotic instability of the planar black hole in four and six dimensions. In four dimensions we find indications of at least exponential growth, while in six dimensions, it appears that a singularity may form in finite time on the boundary. This instability extends to pure AdS (at least in the Poincare patch). For the class of perturbations we consider, there is no sign of this instability in five dimensions.
We give a general analysis of AdS boundary conditions for spin-3/2 Rarita-Schwinger fields and investigate boundary conditions preserving supersymmetry for a graviton multiplet in AdS_4. Linear Rarita-Schwinger fields in AdS_d are shown to admit mixed Dirichlet-Neumann boundary conditions when their mass is in the range $0 \leq |m| < 1/2l_{AdS}$. We also demonstrate that mixed boundary conditions are allowed for larger masses when the inner product is "renormalized" accordingly with the action. We then use the results obtained for |m| = 1/l_{AdS} to explore supersymmetric boundary conditions f…
We construct, to second order, the effective action of General Relativity for small excitations generated by a vector field and use it to study conformal symmetry in the boundary of AdS$_3$. By requiring finiteness of the boundary effective action(s) for certain asymptotic transformations, we derive the well-known Virasoro algebra and central charge associated with the boundary of AdS$_3$. The bulk action for these transformations can be arbitrarily small.
In this note, I describe an attempt to construct a phenomenological gravitational model at the boundary of the AdS manifold from the variation of boundary terms in the gravitational action. I find that for an AdS vacuum in the bulk, geometric constraints require that the energy-momentum tensor has constant trace.
Pure three-dimensional gravity in anti-de Sitter space can be formulated as an SL(2,R) $\times $ SL(2,R) Chern-Simons theory, and the latter can be reduced to a WZW theory at the boundary. In this paper we show that AdS$_3$ gravity with free boundary conditions is described by a string at the boundary whose target spacetime is also AdS$_3$. While boundary conditions in the standard construction of Coussaert, Henneaux, and van Driel are enforced through constraints on the WZW currents, we find that free boundary conditions are partially enforced through the string Virasoro constraints.
We describe a new class of boundary conditions for AdS_{d+1} under which the boundary metric becomes a dynamical field. The key technical point is to show that contributions from boundary counter-terms in the bulk gravitational action render such fluctuations normalizable. In the context of AdS/CFT, the analogue of Neumann boundary conditions for AdS promotes the CFT metric to a dynamical field but adds no explicit gravitational dynamics; the gravitational dynamics is just that induced by the conformal fields. Other AdS boundary conditions couple the CFT to a gravity theory of choice. We use t…
An S-matrix analog is defined for anti-de Sitter space by constructing ``in'' and ``out'' states that asymptote to the timelike boundary. A derivation parallel to that of the LSZ formula shows that this ``boundary S-matrix'' is given directly by correlation functions in the boundary conformal theory. This provides a key entry in the AdS to CFT dictionary.
We find a simple relation between the first subleading terms in the asymptotic expansion of the metric field in AdS$_3$, obeying the Brown-Henneaux boundary conditions, and the stress tensor of the underlying Liouville theory on the boundary. We can also provide an more explicit relation between the bulk metric and the boundary conformal field theory when it is described in terms of a free field with a background charge.
We investigate the Wightman function, the mean field squared and the vacuum expectation values of energy-momentum tensor for a scalar field in AdS spacetime, in the presence of a brane perpendicular to the AdS boundary. On the brane the field operator obeys Robin boundary condition. The vacuum expectation values are decomposed into the boundary-free AdS and brane-induced contributions. In this way, for points away from the brane, the renormalization is reduced to the one in pure AdS spacetime. It is shown that at proper distances from the brane larger than the AdS curvature radius the brane-in…
In order to better understand how AdS holography works for sub-regions, we formulate a holographic version of the Reeh-Schlieder theorem for the simple case of an AdS Klein-Gordon field. This theorem asserts that the set of states constructed by acting on a suitable vacuum state with boundary observables contained within any subset of the boundary is dense in the Hilbert space of the bulk theory. To prove this theorem we need two ingredients which are themselves of interest. First, we prove a purely bulk version of Reeh-Schlieder theorem for an AdS Klein-Gordon field. This theorem relies on th…
We present a modified version of the boundary counterterm method for removing divergences from the action of an asymptotically $AdS$ spacetime. The standard approach renders the action finite but leaves diffeomorphism invariance partially broken if the dimension of the spacetime is odd. We show that this symmetry is restored by a new boundary counterterm, needed to cancel a divergence that appears in dimensional regularization. The result is a finite, diffeomorphism invariant action appropriate for gravitational physics. As an example we calculate the action for the Kerr-$AdS_5$ black hole. Un…
We classify solutions to Einstein's equations in AdS with Ricci-flat boundary metric and with covariantly constant boundary stress tensor, which in general is not diagonalizable, i.e. it does not admit a reference frame. New solutions are found, and in the context of the AdS/CFT duality they should describe a boundary QFT in certain non-equilibrium steady states. Further imposing the absence of scalar curvature singularities leads to a subset of metrics that can be seen as null deformations of AdS or of the AdS soliton. We also outline the procedure of solving the equations when a scalar is co…
A finite action principle for three-dimensional gravity with negative cosmological constant, based on a boundary condition for the asymptotic extrinsic curvature, is considered. The bulk action appears naturally supplemented by a boundary term that is one half the Gibbons-Hawking term, that makes the Euclidean action and the Noether charges finite without additional Dirichlet counterterms. The consistency of this boundary condition with the Dirichlet problem in AdS gravity and the Chern-Simons formulation in three dimensions, and its suitability for the higher odd-dimensional case, are also di…
We provide examples of gravitational collapse and black hole formation in AdS, either from collapsing matter shells or in analogy to the Oppenheimer-Sneider solution. We then investigate boundary properties of the corresponding states. In particular, we describe the boundary two-point function corresponding to a shell outside its horizon; if the shell is quasistatically lowered into the horizon, the resulting state is the Boulware state. We also describe the more physical Hartle-Hawking state, and discuss its connection to the quasistatic shell states and to thermalization on the boundary.
New chiral boundary conditions are found for quantum gravity with matter on AdS3. The associated asymptotic symmetry group is generated by a single right-moving U(1) Kac-Moody-Virasoro algebra with c_R = 3l/2G. The Kac-Moody zero mode generates global left-moving translations and equals, for a BTZ black hole, the sum of the total mass and spin. The level is positive about the global vacuum and negative in the black hole sector, corresponding to ergosphere formation. Realizations arising in Chern-Simons gravity and string theory are analyzed. The new boundary conditions are shown to naturally a…
In a two-dimensional AdS space, a dynamical boundary of AdS space was described by a one-dimensional quantum-mechanical Hamiltonian with a coupling between the bulk and boundary system. In this paper, we present a Lagrangian corresponding to the Hamiltonian through the Legendre transformation with a constraint. In Dirac's constraint analysis, we find two primary constraints without secondary constraints; however, they are fully second-class. In order to make the second-class constraint system into a first-class constraint system, we employ the Batalin-Tyutin Hamiltonian method, where the exten…
We construct an anti-de-Sitter (AdS) geometry from a conformal field theory (CFT) defined on a general conformally flat manifold via a flow equation associated with the curved manifold, which we refer to as the primary flow equation. We explicitly show that the induced metric associated with the primary flow equation becomes AdS whose boundary is the curved manifold. Interestingly, it turns out that such an AdS metric with conformally flat boundary is obtained from the usual Poincare AdS by a simple bulk diffeomorphism transformation. We also demonstrate that the emergence of such an AdS space…
In the bulk reconstruction program, one constructs boundary representations of bulk fields. We investigate the relation between the global/Poincare and AdS-Rindler representations for AdS$_2$. We obtain the AdS-Rindler smearing function for massive and massless fields and show that the global and AdS-Rindler boundary representations are related by conformal transformations. We also use the boundary representations of creation and annihilation operators to compute the Bogoliubov transformation relating global modes to AdS-Rindler modes for both massive and massless particles.
Boundary conditions for massive fermions are investigated in AdS_d for $d \ge 2$. For fermion masses in the range $0 \le |m| < 1/2\ell$ with $\ell$ the AdS length, the standard notion of normalizeability allows a choice of boundary conditions. As in the case of scalars at or slightly above the Breitenlohner-Freedman (BF) bound, such boundary conditions correspond to multi-trace deformations of any CFT dual. By constructing appropriate boundary superfields, for d=3,4,5 we identify joint scalar/fermion boundary conditions which preserve either ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetry or ${\cal N}=1$ superconf…
In AdS, scalar fields with masses slightly above the Breitenlohner-Freedman bound admit a variety of possible boundary conditions which are reflected in the Lagrangian of the dual field theory. Generic small changes in the AdS boundary conditions correspond to deformations of the dual field theory by multi-trace operators. Here we extend this discussion to the case of vector gauge fields in the bulk spacetime using the results of Ishibashi and Wald [hep-th/0402184]. As in the context of scalar fields, general boundary conditions for vector fields involve multi-trace deformations which lead to …
In Lorentzian AdS/CFT there exists a mapping between local bulk operators and nonlocal CFT operators. In global AdS this mapping can be found through use of bulk equations of motion and allows the nonlocal CFT operator to be expressed as a local operator smeared over a range of positions and times. We argue that such a construction is not possible if there are bulk normal modes with exponentially small near boundary imprint. We show that the AdS-Schwarzschild background is such a case, with the horizon introducing modes with angular momentum much larger than frequency, causing them to be trapp…
The first law for entanglement entropy in CFT in an odd-dimensional asymptotically AdS black hole is studied by using the AdS/CFT duality. The entropy of CFT considered here is due to the entanglement between two subsystems separated by the horizon of the AdS black hole, which itself is realized as the conformal boundary of a black droplet in even-dimensional global AdS bulk spacetime. In $(2+1)$-dimensional CFT, the first law is shown to be always satisfied by analyzing a class of metric perturbations of the exact solution of a $4$-dimensional black droplet. In $(4+1)$-dimensions, the first l…
Computing the holographic entanglement entropy proposed by Ryu-Takayanagi shows that thermal energy near boundary region in $AdS_3$ gain maximum of the temperature. The absolute maxima of temperature is $T^{Max}_{E}= \frac{4G_3 ε_{\infty}}{l}$. By simple physical investigations it has become possible to predict a phase transition of first order at critical temperature $T_c\leq T_{E}$. As they predict a tail or root towards which the AdS space ultimately tend, the boundary is considered thermalized. The Phase transitions of this form have received striking theoretical and experimental verificat…
We propose a set of consistent boundary conditions containing the spacelike warped black holes solutions of Topologically Massive Gravity. We prove that the corresponding asymptotic charges whose algebra consists in a Virasoro algebra and a current algebra are finite, integrable and conserved. A similar analysis is performed for the timelike warped AdS_3 spaces which contain a family of regular solitons. The energy of the boundary Virasoro excitations is positive while the current algebra leads to negative (for the spacelike warped case) and positive (for the timelike warped case) energy bound…
Resorting to the notion of a stress tensor induced on the boundary of a spacetime, we compute the conserved charges associated to exact solutions of New Massive Gravity that obey weakened versions of AdS_3 asymptotic boundary conditions. The computation requires the introduction of additional counterterms, which play the role of regularizing the semiclassical stress tensor in the boundary theory. We show that, if treated appropriately, different ways of prescribing asymptotically AdS_3 boundary conditions yield finite conserved charges for the solutions. The consistency of the construction man…
We investigate how changes in the boundary metric affect the shape of AdS black holes. Most of our work is analytic and based on the AdS C-metric. Both asymptotically hyperbolic and compact black holes are studied. It has recently been shown that the AdS C-metric contains configurations of highly deformed black holes, and we show that these deformations are usually the result of similar deformations of the boundary metric. However, quite surprisingly, we also find cases where the horizon is insensitive to certain large changes in the boundary geometry. This motivates the search for a new famil…
In this work we consider AdS$_3$ gravitational theory with certain mixed boundary conditions at spatial infinity. Using the Chern-Simons formalism of AdS$_3$ gravity, we find that these boundary conditions lead to non-trivial boundary terms, which, in turn, produce exactly the spectrum of the $T\bar{T}/J\bar{T}$-deformed CFTs. We then follow the procedure for constructing asymptotic boundary dynamics of AdS$_3$ to derive the constrained $T\bar{T}$-deformed WZW model from Chern-Simons gravity. The resulting theory turns out to be the $T\bar{T}$-deformed Alekseev-Shatashvili action after disenta…
We consider two instances of boundary conditions for massless scalars on $AdS_2$ that interpolate between the Dirichlet and Neumann cases while preserving scale invariance. Assessing invariance under the full $SL(2;\mathds{R})$ conformal group is not immediate given their non-local nature. To further clarify this issue, we compute holographically 2- and 4-point correlation functions using the aforementioned boundary conditions and study their transformation properties. Concretely, motivated by the dual description of some multi-parametric families of Wilson loops in ABJM theory, we look at the…
The Teukolsky master equation and its associated spin-weighted spheroidal harmonic decomposition simplify considerably the study of linear gravitational perturbations of the Kerr(-AdS) black hole. However, the formulation of the problem is not complete before we assign the physically relevant boundary conditions. We find a set of two Robin boundary conditions (BCs) that must be imposed on the Teukolsky master variables to get perturbations that are asymptotically global AdS, i.e. that asymptotes to the Einstein Static Universe. In the context of the AdS/CFT correspondence, these BCs allow a no…
We consider the most general asymptotically anti-de Sitter boundary conditions in three-dimensional Einstein gravity with negative cosmological constant. The metric contains in total twelve independent functions, six of which are interpreted as chemical potentials (or non-normalizable fluctuations) and the other half as canonical boundary charges (or normalizable fluctuations). Their presence modifies the usual Fefferman-Graham expansion. The asymptotic symmetry algebra consists of two sl(2)_k current algebras, the levels of which are given by k=l/(4G_N), where l is the AdS radius and G_N the …
Quantum field theory on anti-de Sitter spacetime requires the introduction of boundary conditions at its conformal boundary, due essentially to the absence of global hyperbolicity. Here we calculate the renormalized stress-energy tensor $T_{μν}$ for a scalar field $ϕ$ on the Poincaré patch of $\text{AdS}_2$ and study how it depends on those boundary conditions. We show that, except for the Dirichlet and Neumann cases, the boundary conditions break the maximal $\textrm{AdS}$ invariance. As a result, $\langleϕ^2\rangle$ acquires a space dependence and $\langle T_{μν}\rangle$ is no longer proport…
We use geodesic probes to recover the entire bulk metric in certain asymptotically AdS spacetimes. Given a spectrum of null geodesic endpoints on the boundary, we describe two remarkably simple methods for recovering the bulk information. After examining the issues which affect their application in practice, we highlight a significant advantage one has over the other from a computational point of view, and give some illustrative examples. We go on to consider spacetimes where the methods cannot be used to recover the complete bulk metric, and demonstrate how much information can be recovered i…
For charged black hole, within the grand canonical ensemble, the decay rate from thermal AdS to the black hole at a fixed high temperature increases with the chemical potential. We check that this feature is well captured by a phenomenological matrix model expected to describe its strongly coupled dual. This comparison is made by explicitly constructing the kink and bounce solutions around the de-confinement transition and evaluating the matrix model effective potential on the solutions.
Scalars in AdS${}_{d+1}$ with squared masses in the Breitenlohner-Freedman window $-d^2/4 \le m^2 < -d^2/4 +1$ (in units with the AdS scale $\ell$ set to 1) are known to enjoy a variety of boundary conditions. For larger masses $m^2 > -d^2/4 +1$, unitarity bounds in possible dual CFTs suggest that such general boundary conditions should lead to ghosts. We show that this is not always the case as, for conformally-invariant boundary conditions in Poincaré AdS that would naively violate unitarity bounds, the system is generically ghost-free. Conflicts with unitarity bounds are avoided due to the …
The AdS/CFT correspondence provides a new perspective on recurrent questions in General Relativity such as the allowed boundary conditions at infinity and the definition of gravitational conserved charges. Here we review the main insights obtained in this direction over the last decade and apply the new techniques to Topologically Massive Gravity. We show that this theory is dual to a non-unitary CFT for any value of its parameter mu and becomes a Logarithmic CFT at mu = 1.
A definite form for the boundary term that produces the finiteness of both the conserved quantities and Euclidean action for any Lovelock gravity with AdS asymptotics is presented. This prescription merely tells even from odd bulk dimensions, regardless the particular theory considered, what is valid even for Einstein-Hilbert and Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet AdS gravity. The boundary term is a given polynomial of the boundary extrinsic and intrinsic curvatures (also referred to as Kounterterms series). Only the coupling constant of the boundary term changes accordingly, such that it always preserves …
The greybody factors for spin 1/2 particles in the BTZ black holes are discussed from 2D CFT in bulk-boundary correspondence. It is found that the initial state of spin 1/2 particle in the BTZ black holes can be described by the Poincaré vacuum state in boundary 2D CFT, and the nonlinear coordinate transformation causes the thermalization of the Poincaré vacuum state. For special case, our results for the greybody factors agree with the semiclassical calculation.
We consider a perturbation of the Einstein gravity with the Neumann boundary condition, which is regarded as an end of the world brane (ETW brane) of the AdS/BCFT correspondence, in the AdSd+1 spaectime where d is larger than 2. We obtain the mode expansion of the perturbations explicitly for the tensionless ETW brane case. We also show that the energy-momentum tensor in a d-dimensional BCFT should satisfy nontrivial constraints other than the ones for the boundary conformal symmetry if the BCFT can couple to a d-dimensional gravity with a specific boundary condition, which can be the Neumann …
We parametrize the (2+1)-dimensional AdS space and the BTZ black hole with Fefferman-Graham coordinates starting from the AdS boundary. We consider various boundary metrics: Rindler, static de Sitter and FRW. In each case, we compute the holographic stress-energy tensor of the dual CFT and confirm that it has the correct form, including the effects of the conformal anomaly. We find that the Fefferman-Graham parametrization also spans a second copy of the AdS space, including a second boundary. For the boundary metrics we consider, the Fefferman-Graham coordinates do not cover the whole AdS spa…
We consider general-symmetry higher spin fields in AdS_5 and derive expressions for their one-loop corrections to vacuum energy E and the associated 4d boundary conformal anomaly a-coefficient. We a propose a similar expression for the second conformal anomaly c-coefficient. We show that all the three quantities (E, a, c) computed for N=8 gauged 5d supergravity are -1/2 of the values for N=4 conformal 4d supergravity and also twice the values for N=4 Maxwell multiplet. This gives 5d derivation of the fact that the system of N=4 conformal supergravity and four N=4 Maxwell multiplets is anomaly …
It has been recently observed that a scalar field with Robin boundary conditions (RBCs) can trigger both a superradiant and a bulk instability for a BTZ black hole (BH). To understand the generality and scrutinize the origin of this behavior, we consider here the superradiant instability of a Kerr BH confined either in a mirror-like cavity or in AdS space, triggered also by a scalar field with RBCs. These boundary conditions are the most general ones that ensure the cavity/AdS space is an isolated system, and include, as a particular case, the commonly considered Dirichlet boundary conditions …
Large black holes in an asymptotically AdS spacetime have a dual description in terms of approximately thermal states in the boundary CFT. The reflecting boundary conditions of AdS prevent such black holes from evaporating completely. On the other hand, the formulation of the information paradox becomes more stringent when a black hole is allowed to evaporate. In order to address the information loss problem from the AdS/CFT perspective we then need the boundary to become partially absorptive. We present a simple model that produces the necessary changes on the boundary by coupling a bulk scal…
We discuss alternative definitions of the semiclassical partition function in two-dimensional CFTs with higher spin symmetry, in the presence of sources for the higher spin currents. Theories of this type can often be described via Hamiltonian reduction of current algebras, and a holographic description in terms of three-dimensional Chern-Simons theory with generalized AdS boundary conditions becomes available. By studying the CFT Ward identities in the presence of non-trivial sources, we determine the appropriate choice of boundary terms and boundary conditions in Chern-Simons theory for the …
Boundary actions for three-dimensional quantum gravity in the discretized formalism of Ponzano-Regge are studied with a view towards understanding the boundary degrees of freedom. These degrees of freedom postulated in the holography hypothesis are supposed to be characteristic of quantum gravity theories. In particular it is expected that some of these degrees of freedom reside on black hole horizons. This paper is a study of these ideas in the context of a theory of quantum gravity that requires no additional structure such as supersymmetry or special gravitational backgrounds. Lorentzian as…
On $\text{AdS}_2 \times \mathbb{S}^2$, we construct the two-point correlation functions for the ground and thermal states of a real Klein-Gordon field admitting generalized $(γ,v)$-boundary conditions. We follow the prescription recently outlined in [1] for two different choices of secondary solutions. For each of them, we obtain a family of admissible boundary conditions parametrized by $γ\in\left[0,\fracπ{2}\right]$. We study how they affect the response of a static Unruh-DeWitt detector. The latter not only perceives variations of $γ$, but also distinguishes between the two families of seco…
The bound states of the D1D5 brane system have a known gravitational description: flat asymptotics, an anti-de Sitter region, and a 'cap' ending the AdS region. We construct perturbations that correspond to the action of chiral algebra generators on Ramond ground states of D1D5 branes. Abstract arguments in the literature suggest that the perturbation should be pure gauge in the AdS region; our perturbation indeed has this structure, with the nontrivial deformation of the geometry occurring at the 'neck' between the AdS region and asymptotic infinity. This 'non-gauge' deformation is needed to …
Using the dictionary between Bondi and Fefferman-Graham gauges, we identify the analogues of the Bondi news, Bondi mass and Bondi angular momentum aspects at the boundary of generic asymptotically locally (A)dS$_4$ spacetimes. We introduce the $Λ$-BMS$_4$ group as the residual symmetry group of the metric in Bondi gauge after boundary gauge fixing. This group consists of infinite-dimensional non-abelian supertranslations and superrotations and it reduces in the asymptotically flat limit to the extended BMS$_4$ group. Furthermore, we present new boundary conditions for asymptotically locally Ad…
We discuss the relation between singularities of correlation functions and causal properties of the bulk spacetime in the context of the AdS/CFT correspondence. In particular, we argue that the boundary field theory correlation functions are singular when the insertion points are connected causally by a bulk null geodesic. This implies the existence of "bulk-cone singularities" in boundary theory correlation functions which lie inside the boundary light-cone. We exhibit the pattern of singularities in various asymptotically AdS spacetimes and argue that this pattern can be used to probe the bu…
We consider AdS gravity duals to CFT on background spacetimes with a null infinity. Null infinity on the conformal boundary may extend to an extremal horizon in the bulk. For example it does so for Poincare-AdS, although does not for planar Schwarzschild-AdS. If null infinity does extend into an extremal horizon in the bulk, we show that the bulk near-horizon geometry is determined by the geometry of the boundary null infinity. Hence the `infra-red' geometry of the bulk is fixed by the large scale behaviour of the CFT spacetime. In addition the boundary stress tensor must have a particular dec…
A finite action principle for Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet AdS gravity is presented. The boundary term, which is different for even and odd dimensions, is a functional of the boundary metric, intrinsic curvature and extrinsic curvature. For even dimensions, the boundary term corresponds to the maximal Chern form of the spacetime, and the asymptotic AdS condition for the curvature suffices for the well-posedness of this action. For odd dimensions, the action is stationary under a boundary condition on the variation of the extrinsic curvature. The background-independent Noether charges associated to as…
We present a simple general relation between tree-level exchanges in AdS and dS. This relation allows to directly import techniques and results for AdS Witten diagrams, both in position and momentum space, to boundary correlation functions in dS. In this work we apply this relation to define Mellin amplitudes and a spectral representation for exchanges in dS. We also derive the conformal block decomposition of a dS exchange, both in the direct and crossed channels, from their AdS counterparts. The relation between AdS and dS exchanges itself is derived using a recently introduced Mellin-Barnes…
In this paper, we study the Aggrawal, Ciambelli, Detournay, and Somerhausen (ACDS) boundary conditions ref[42] for Warped AdS$_3$ (WAdS$_3$) in the framework of General Massive Gravity (GMG) in the quadratic ensemble. We construct the phase space, the asymptotic structure, and the asymptotic symmetry algebra. We know that the global surface charges are finite, but not integrable, and also we find the conditions to make them integrable. In addition, to confirm that the phase space has the same symmetry as that of Warped Conformal Field Theory (WCFT), we compare the bulk entropy of Warped BTZ (W…
We review the results of investigations for brane-induced effects on the local properties of quantum vacuum in background of AdS spacetime. Two geometries are considered: a brane parallel to the AdS boundary and a brane intersecting the AdS boundary. For both these cases the contribution in the vacuum expectation value (VEV) of the energy-momentum tensor is separated explicitly and its behavior in various asymptotic regions of the parameters is studied. It is shown that the influence of the gravitational field on the local properties of the quantum vacuum is essential at distance from the bran…
We examine the dynamics induced on the four dimensional boundary of a five dimensional anti-deSitter spacetime by the five dimensional Chern-Simons theory with gauge group the direct product of SO(4,2) with U(1). We show that, given boundary conditions compatible with the geometry of 5d AdS spacetime in the asymptotic region, the induced surface theory is the $WZW_4$ model.
