In this work we consider AdS$_3$ gravitational theory with certain mixed boundary conditions at spatial infinity. Using the Chern-Simons formalism of AdS$_3$ gravity, we find that these boundary conditions lead to non-trivial boundary terms, which, in turn, produce exactly the spectrum of the $T\bar{T}/J\bar{T}$-deformed CFTs. We then follow the procedure for constructing asymptotic boundary dynamics of AdS$_3$ to derive the constrained $T\bar{T}$-deformed WZW model from Chern-Simons gravity. The resulting theory turns out to be the $T\bar{T}$-deformed Alekseev-Shatashvili action after disentangling the constraints. Furthermore, by adding a $U(1)$ gauge field associated to the current $J$, we obtain one type of the $J\bar T$-deformed WZW model, and show that its action can be constructed from the gravity side. These results provide a check on the correspondence between the $T\bar{T}/J\bar{T}$-deformed CFTs and the deformations of boundary conditions of AdS$_3$, the latter of which may be regarded as coordinate transformations.
We perform canonical quantization of the WZW model with defects and permutation branes. We establish symplectomorphism between phase space of WZW model with $N$ defects on cylinder and phase space of Chern-Simons theory on annulus times $R$ with $N$ Wilson lines, and between phase space of WZW model with $N$ defects on strip and Chern-Simons theory on disc times $R$ with $N+2$ Wilson lines. We obtained also symplectomorphism between phase space of the $N$-fold product of the WZW model with boundary conditions specified by permutation branes, and phase space of Chern-Simons theory on sphere wit…
In this talk we discuss symmetry preserving D-branes on a line of a marginally deformed SU(2) WZW model. A semiclassical and a quantum theoretical approach are presented.
The WZW functional in D=4 can be derived directly from the Chern-Simons functional of a compactified D=5 gauge theory and the boundary fermions it supplants. A simple pedagogical model based on U(1) gauge groups illustrates how this works. A bulk-boundary system with the fermions eliminated manifestly evinces anomaly cancelations between CS and WZW terms.
We consider Hanany-Witten setups of 3- and 5-branes in type IIB string theory that realize N=(1,0),(2,0) and (1,1) gauged WZW models in 1+1 dimensions. The gauged WZW models arise as theories residing on the boundary of D3 branes ending on D5 branes. From the point of view of low energy dynamics the D5 branes play the role of half-BPS co-dimension-1 defects (domain walls) in 3d N=1 or N=2 Chern-Simons theories. Extending the analysis of previous works on the subject of boundary conditions in (supersymmetric) Chern-Simons theory, we discuss in detail the field theory construction of a large cla…
We study the WZW, Chern-Simons, and 2d qYM theories with gauge group U(N). The U(N) WZW model is only well-defined for odd level K, and this model is shown to exhibit level-rank duality in a much simpler form than that for SU(N). The U(N) Chern-Simons theory on Seifert manifolds exhibits a similar duality, distinct from the level-rank duality of SU(N) Chern-Simons theory on S^3. When q = e^{2 pi i/(N+K)}, the observables of the 2d U(N) qYM theory can be expressed as a sum over a finite subset of U(N) representations. When N and K are odd, the qYM theory exhibits N <--> K duality, provided q = …
We consider noncommutative gauge theory with Dirac or Majorana fermions in odd dimensional spacetime and compute the induced noncommutative Chern-Simons action generated at 1-loop. We observe that the Chern-Simons term induced by a Dirac fermion has a smooth limit when $þ---> 0$, but there is a finite jump for the Chern-Simons term induced by a Majorana spinor. The induced Chern-Simons action from a Majorana spinor is nonvanishing even in the $þ---> 0$ limit, a discontinuity that shares a similar characteristic as the UV/IR singularity discovered originally by Minwalla, Raamsdonk and Seiberg. …
We investigate a class of current-current, Gross-Neveu like, perturbations of WZW models in which the full left-right affine symmetry is broken to the diagonal global algebra only. Our analysis focuses on those supergroups for which such a perturbation preserves conformal invariance. A detailed calculation of the 2-point functions of affine primary operators to 3-loops is presented. Furthermore, we derive an exact formula for the anomalous dimensions of a large subset of fields to all orders in perturbation theory. Possible applications of our results, including the study of non-perturbative d…
A general Lagrangian formulation of integrably deformed G/H-coset models is given. We consider the G/H-coset model in terms of the gauged Wess-Zumino-Witten action and obtain an integrable deformation by adding a potential energy term $Tr(gTg^{-1}\Tb )$, where algebra elements $T, \Tb $ belong to the center of the algebra {\bf h} associated with the subgroup H. We show that the classical equation of motion of the deformed coset model can be identified with the integrability condition of certain linear equations which makes the use of the inverse scattering method possible. Using the linear equ…
WZW models live on a moduli space parameterized by current-current deformations. The moduli space defines an ensemble of conformal field theories, which generically have $N$ abelian conserved currents and central charge $c > N$. We calculate the average partition function and show that it can be interpreted as a sum over 3-manifolds. This suggests that the ensemble-averaged theory has a holographic dual, generalizing recent results on Narain CFTs. The bulk theory, at the perturbative level, is identified as $U(1)^{2N}$ Chern-Simons theory coupled to additional matter fields. From a mathematica…
In this paper, we study the restoration of gauge symmetry and up to half the supersymmetry (N=(2,0) or N=(1,1) in two dimensions) for N=2 non-Abelian Chern-Simons theories in the presence of a boundary. We describe the boundary action which is a supersymmetric WZW model coupled to the bulk Chern-Simons theory. Unlike the N=1 case, higher supersymmetry (N=(2,0)) will endow the group manifold of the WZW model with a complex structure. Therefore, the N=(2,0) WZW model in our paper is constructed via a coset space $G_c/G$, where $G$ is the same as the gauge group in the Chern-Simons action.
We study the effect of the gravitational Chern-Simons term (GCST) in the (2+1)-dimensional anti-de Sitter (AdS$_{2+1}$) geometry. In the context of the gauge gravity, we obtain black hole solution and its boundary WZW theory. The BTZ black hole solution can still be retrieved but its gravitational mass and angular momentum become different from their inherent values. The deformation on these quantities due to the GCST can be summarized as $SO(1,1)$ times rescaling. The boundary WZW theory is found to be chiral, i.e., composed of the right moving part and the left moving part with different Kac…
A dynamical system is canonically associated to every Drinfeld double of any affine Kac-Moody group. The choice of the affine Lu-Weinstein-Soibelman double gives a smooth one-parameter deformation of the standard WZW model. In particular, the worldsheet and the target of the classical version of the deformed theory are the ordinary smooth manifolds. The quasitriangular WZW model is exactly solvable and it admits the chiral decomposition. Its classical action is not invariant with respect to the left and right action of the loop group, however it satisfies the weaker condition of the Poisson-Lie…
We investigate a relationship between a particular class of two-dimensional integrable non-linear $σ$-models and variations of Hodge structures. Concretely, our aim is to study the classical dynamics of the $λ$-deformed $G/G$ model and show that a special class of solutions to its equations of motion precisely describes a one-parameter variation of Hodge structures. We find that this special class is obtained by identifying the group-valued field of the $σ$-model with the Weil operator of the Hodge structure. In this way, the study of strings on classifying spaces of Hodge structures suggests …
We study Chern-Simons theory with a complex G_C or a real G x G gauge group on a manifold with boundary - this includes Lorentzian and Euclidean (anti-) de Sitter (E/A)dS gravity for G=SU(2) or G=SL(2,R). We show that there is a canonical choice of boundary conditions that leads to an unambiguous, fully covariant and gauge invariant, off-shell derivation of the boundary action - a G_C/G or G WZW model, coupled in a gauge invariant way to the boundary value of the gauge field. In particular, for (E/A)dS gravity, the boundary action is a WZW model with target space (E/A)dS_3, reminiscent of a wo…
We study deformed WZW models on supergroups with vanishing Killing form. The deformation is generated by the isotropic current-current perturbation which is exactly marginal under these assumptions. It breaks half of the global isometries of the original supergroup. The current corresponding to the remaining symmetry is conserved but its components are neither holomorphic nor anti-holomorphic. We obtain the exact two- and three-point functions of this current and a four-point function in the first two leading orders of a 1/k expansion but to all orders in the deformation parameter. We further …
The standard model $SU(2)_L\times U(1)_Y$ gauging of the Wess-Zumino-Witten term requires a modified counterterm when background fields, needed to generate the full set of currents, are introduced. The modified counterterm plays an essential role in properly defining covariant global currents and their anomalies. For example, it is required in order to correctly derive the gauge invariant baryon number current and its anomalous divergence. The background fields can also be promoted to a description of the physical spin-1 vector and axial-vector mesons in QCD and the counterterm leads to novel …
We demonstrate that the known expressions for the thermal partition function of large $N$ Chern-Simons matter theories admit a simple Hilbert space interpretation as the partition function of an associated ungauged large $N$ matter theory with one additional condition: the Fock space of this associated theory is projected down to the subspace of its \emph{quantum} singlets i.e.~singlets under the Gauss law for Chern-Simons gauge theory. Via the Chern-Simons / WZW correspondence, the space of quantum singlets are equivalent to the space of WZW conformal blocks. One step in our demonstration inv…
The $T\bar{T}$ deformed 2D CFTs correspond to AdS$_3$ gravity with Dirichlet boundary condition at finite cutoff or equivalently a mixed boundary condition at spatial infinity. In this work, we use the latter perspective and Chern-Simons formalism of AdS$_3$ gravity to construct the surface charges and associated algebra in $T\bar{T}$ deformed theories. Starting from the Bañados geometry, we obtain the Chern-Simons gauge fields for the $T\bar{T}$ deformed geometry, which are parametrized by two independent charges. With help of the mixed boundary condition, the residual gauge symmetries of the…
Within the superfield formalism, we calculate the two-point functions and the effective potential for the mass-deformed ${\cal N}=3$ Chern-Simons-matter theory and discuss the related renormalization group issues.
Noncommutative Chern - Simons' system is non-perturbatively investigated at a full deformed level. A deformed "commutative" phase space is found by a non-canonical change between two sets of deformed variables of noncommutative space. It is explored that in the "commutative" phase space all calculations are similar to the case in commutative space. Spectra of the energy and angular momentum of the Chern - Simons' system are obtained at the full deformed level. The noncommutative-commutative correspondence is clearly showed. Formalism for the general dynamical system is briefly presented. Some …
We study the $λ$--deformation of symmetric coset models from the viewpoint of a four dimensional Chern-Simons theory \cite{CY3}. In addition, by applying the "dual" boundary conditions of the ones used in the construction $η$--deformed PCM in the trigonometric description \cite{TRIGYB} we construct a $λ$--deformation type model.
We give explicit field theoretical representations for the observables of 2+1 dimensional Chern-Simons theory in terms of gauge invariant composites of 2D WZW fields. To test our identification we compute some basic Wilson loop correlators reobtaining known results.
In this paper, from the $q$-gauge covariant condition we define the $q$-deformed Killing form and the second $q$-deformed Chern class for the quantum group $SU_{q}(2)$. Developing Zumino's method we introduce a $q$-deformed homotopy operator to compute the $q$-deformed Chern-Simons and the $q$-deformed cocycle hierarchy. Some recursive relations related to the generalized $q$-deformed Killing forms are derived to prove the cocycle hierarchy formulas directly. At last, we construct the $q$-gauge covariant Lagrangian and derive the $q$-deformed Yang-Mills equation. We find that the components of…
The super-$σ$-model of dynamics of the super-charged loop in an ambient supermanifold in the presence of worldsheet defects of arbitrary topology is formalised within Gawȩdzki's higher-cohomological approach, drawing inspiration from the precursor arXiv:0808.1419 [hep-th]. A distinguished class of the corresponding backgrounds (supertargets with additional bicategorial supergeometric data), organised into simplicial hierarchies, is considered. To these, configurational (super)symmetry of the bulk field theory is lifted coherently, whereby the notion of a maximally (super)symmetric background, …
We present the construction of the $λ$-deformation of $AdS_5\times S^5$ superstring from the four dimensional Chern-Simons-type gauge theory. The procedure is applicable to all the semi-symmetric coset models and generalizes the previous construction of $λ$-deformation of the symmetric coset models.
In this paper we will study non-abelian Chern-Simons theory on a deformed superspace. We will deform the superspace in such a way that it includes the noncommutativity between bosonic and fermionic coordinates. We will first analyse the BRST and the anti-BRST symmetries of the Chern-Simons theory on this deformed superspace. Then we will analyse the extended BRST and the extended anti-BRST symmetries of this theory in the Batalin-Vilkovisky (BV) formalism. Finally, we will express these extended BRST and extended anti-BRST symmetries in extended superspace formalism by introducing new Grassman…
We extend the analysis of the canonical structure of the Wess-Zumino-Witten theory to the bulk and boundary coset G/H models. The phase spaces of the coset theories in the closed and in the open geometry appear to coincide with those of a double Chern-Simons theory on two different 3-manifolds. In particular, we obtain an explicit description of the canonical structure of the boundary G/G coset theory. The latter may be easily quantized leading to an example of a two-dimensional topological boundary field theory.
In this paper we propose a holographic duality for classical gravity on a three-dimensional de Sitter space. We first show that a pair of SU$(2)$ Chern-Simons gauge theories reproduces the classical partition function of Einstein gravity on a Euclidean de Sitter space, namely $\mathbb{S}^3$, when we take the limit where the level $k$ approaches $-2$. This implies that the CFT dual of gravity on a de Sitter space at the leading semi-classical order is given by an SU$(2)$ Wess-Zumino-Witten (WZW) model in the large central charge limit $k\to -2$. We give another evidence for this in the light of…
We study the boundary conditions in the topologically twisted Chern-Simons matter theories with the Lie 3-algebraic structure. We find that the supersymmetric boundary conditions and the gauge invariant boundary conditions can be unified as the complexified gauge invariant boundary conditions which lead to the supergroup WZW models. We propose that the low-energy effective field theories on the two-dimensional intersection of multiple M2-branes on a holomorphic curve inside K3 with two non-parallel M5-branes on the K3 are supergroup WZW models from the topologically twisted BLG-model and the A…
We study $η$-deformations of principal chiral model (PCM) from the viewpoint of a 4D Chern-Simons (CS) theory. The $η$-deformed PCM has originally been derived from the 4D CS theory by Delduc, Lacroix, Magro and Vicedo [arXiv:1909.13824]. The derivation is based on a twist function in the rational description. On the other hand, we start with a twist function in the trigonometric description and discuss possible boundary conditions. We show that a certain boundary condition reproduces the usual $η$-deformed PCM and another one leads to a new kind of Yang-Baxter deformation.
We formulate a 4-dimensional higher gauge theoretic Chern-Simons theory. Its symmetry is encoded in a semistrict Lie 2-algebra equipped with an invariant non singular bilinear form. We analyze the gauge invariance of the theory and show that action is invariant under a higher gauge transformation up to a higher winding number. We find that the theory admits two seemingly inequivalent canonical quantizations. The first is manifestly topological, it does not require a choice of any additional structure on the spacial 3-fold. The second, more akin to that of ordinary Chern-Simons theory, involves…
We introduce two-types of topologically twisted Chern-Simons-matter theories on the direct product of circle and genus-h Riemann surface (S^1 \times Σ_h). The partition functions of first model agrees with the partition functions of a generalizations of G/G gauged WZW model. We also find that correlation functions of Wilson loops in first type Chern-Simons-matter theory coincide with correlation functions of G elements in the generalization of G/G gauged WZW model. The partition function of this model also has nice interpretations as norms of eigen states of Hamiltonian in the quantum integrab…
We investigate the scattering matrix in mass-deformed N>=4 Chern-Simons models including as special cases the BLG and ABJM theories of multiple M2 branes. Curiously the structure of this scattering matrix in three spacetime dimensions is equivalent to (a) the two-dimensional worldsheet matrix found in the context of AdS/CFT integrability and (b) the R-matrix of the one-dimensional Hubbard model. The underlying reason is that all three models are based on an extension of the psu(2|2) superalgebra which constrains the matrix completely. We also compute scattering amplitudes in one-loop field the…
This thesis is devoted to the study of three problems on the Wess-Zumino-Witten (WZW) and Chern-Simons (CS) supergravity theories in the Hamiltonian framework: 1) The two-dimensional super WZW model coupled to supergravity is constructed. The canonical representation of Kac-Moody algebra is extended to the super Kac-Moody and Virasoro algebras. Then, the canonical action is constructed, invariant under local supersymmetry transformations. The metric tensor and Rarita-Schwinger fields emerge as Lagrange multipliers of the components of the super energy-momentum tensor. 2) In higher dimensions, …
We deform the interaction between nonrelativistic point particles on a plane and a Chern-Simons field to obtain an action invariant with respect to time-dependent area-preserving diffeomorphisms. The deformed and undeformed Lagrangians are connected by a point transformation leading to a classical Seiberg-Witten map between the corresponding gauge fields. The Schroedinger equation derived by means of Moyal-Weyl quantization from the effective two-particle interaction exhibits - a singular metric, leading to a splitting of the plane into an interior (bag-) and an exterior region, - a singular p…
The maximal extension of supersymmetric Chern-Simons theory coupled to fundamental matter has $\mathcal{N} = 3$ supersymmetry. In this short note, we provide the explicit form of the action for the mass-deformed $\mathcal{N} = 3$ supersymmetric $U(N)$ Chern-Simons-Matter theory. The theory admits a unique triplet mass deformation term consistent with supersymmetry. We explicitly construct the mass-deformed $\mathcal{N} = 3$ theory in $\mathcal{N} = 1$ superspace using a fundamental and an anti-fundamental superfield.
We study Chern-Simons theory on 3-manifolds $M$ that are circle-bundles over 2-dimensional surfaces $Σ$ and show that the method of Abelianisation, previously employed for trivial bundles $Σ\times S^1$, can be adapted to this case. This reduces the non-Abelian theory on $M$ to a 2-dimensional Abelian theory on $Σ$ which we identify with q-deformed Yang-Mills theory, as anticipated by Vafa et al. We compare and contrast our results with those obtained by Beasley and Witten using the method of non-Abelian localisation, and determine the surgery and framing presecription implicit in this path int…
Pure three-dimensional gravity in anti-de Sitter space can be formulated as an SL(2,R) $\times $ SL(2,R) Chern-Simons theory, and the latter can be reduced to a WZW theory at the boundary. In this paper we show that AdS$_3$ gravity with free boundary conditions is described by a string at the boundary whose target spacetime is also AdS$_3$. While boundary conditions in the standard construction of Coussaert, Henneaux, and van Driel are enforced through constraints on the WZW currents, we find that free boundary conditions are partially enforced through the string Virasoro constraints.
Recently, a variety of deformed $T^{1,1}$ manifolds, with which 2D non-linear sigma models (NLSMs) are classically integrable, have been presented by Arutyunov, Bassi and Lacroix (ABL) [arXiv:2010.05573]. We refer to the NLSMs with the integrable deformed $T^{1,1}$ as the ABL model for brevity. Motivated by this progress, we consider deriving the ABL model from a 4D Chern-Simons (CS) theory with a meromorphic one-form with four double poles and six simple zeros. We specify boundary conditions in the CS theory that give rise to the ABL model and derive the sigma-model background with target-spa…
The explicit expression of all the WZW effective actions for a simple group G broken down to a subgroup H is established in a simple and direct way, and the formal similarity of these actions to the Chern-Simons forms is explained. Applications are also discussed.
We construct a Chern-Simons action for q-deformed gauge theory which is a simple and straightforward generalization of the usual one. Space-time continues to be an ordinary (commuting) manifold, while the gauge potentials and the field strengths become q-commuting fields. Our approach, which is explicitly carried out for the case of `minimal' deformations, has the advantage of leading naturally to a consistent Hamiltonian structure that has essentially all of the features of the undeformed case. For example, using the new Poisson brackets, the constraints form a closed algebra and generate q-d…
We present an analysis of the canonical structure of the WZW theory with untwisted conformal boundary conditions. The phase space of the boundary theory on a strip is shown to coincide with the phase space of the Chern-Simons theory on a solid cylinder (a disc times a line) with two Wilson lines. This reveals a new aspect of the relation between two-dimensional boundary conformal field theories and three-dimensional topological theories. A decomposition of the Chern-Simons phase space on a punctured disc in terms of the one on a punctured sphere and of coadjoint orbits of the loop group easily…
Rényi and entanglement entropies are constructed for 2d q-deformed topological Yang-Mills theories with gauge group $U(N)$, as well as the dual 3d Chern-Simons (CS) theory on Seifert manifolds. When $q=\exp[2πi/(N+K)]$, and $K$ is odd, the topological Rényi entropy and Wilson line observables of the CS theory can be expressed in terms of the modular transformation matrices of the WZW theory, $\rm{\hat{U}(N)}_{K,N(K+N)}$. If both $K$ and $N$ are odd, there is a level-rank duality of the 2d qYM theory and of the associated CS theory, as well as that of the Rényi and entanglement entropies, and W…
In the so-called (2,2) theory, which is the U(N)^4 circular quiver superconformal Chern-Simons theory with levels (k,0,-k,0), it was known that the instanton effects are described by the free energy of topological strings whose Gopakumar-Vafa invariants coincide with those of the local D_5 del Pezzo geometry. By considering two types of one-parameter rank deformations U(N) x U(N+M) x U(N+2M) x U(N+M) and U(N+M) x U(N) x U(N+M) x U(N), we classify the known diagonal BPS indices by degrees. Together with other two types of one-parameter deformations, we further propose the topological string exp…
We consider the quantum-mechanical algebra of observables generated by canonical quantization of $SL(2,R)$ Chern-Simons theory with rational charge on a space manifold with torus topology. We produce modular representations generalizing the representations associated to the $SU(2)$ WZW models and we exhibit the explicit polynomial representations of the corresponding fusion algebras. The relation to Kac-Wakimoto characters of highest weight $\widehat{sl}(2)$ representations with rational level is illustrated. Talk given at the Como Conference on ``Integrable Quantum Field Theories'', September…
We study the $T\bar{T}$ deformation of the chiral bosons and show the equivalence between the chiral bosons of opposite chiralities and the scalar fields at the Hamiltonian level under the deformation. We also derive the deformed Lagrangian of more generic theories which contain an arbitrary number of chiral bosons to all orders. By using these results, we derive the $T\bar{T}$ deformed boundary action of the AdS$_3$ gravity theory in the Chern-Simons formulation. We compute the deformed one-loop torus partition function, which satisfies the $T\bar{T}$ flow equation up to the one-loop order. F…
By exploiting a correspondence between Random Regge triangulations (i.e., Regge triangulations with variable connectivity) and punctured Riemann surfaces, we propose a possible characterization of the SU(2) Wess-Zumino-Witten model on a triangulated surface of genus g. Techniques of boundary CFT are used for the analysis of the quantum amplitudes of the model at level k=1. These techniques provide a non-trivial algebra of boundary insertion operators governing a brane-like interaction between simplicial curvature and WZW fields. Through such a mechanism, we explicitly characterize the partitio…
We construct mass deformed SU(N) L-BLG theory together with $U(M-N)_k$ Chern-Simons theory. This mass deformed L-BLG theory is a low energy world volume theory of a stack of $N$ number of M2-brane far away from $C^4/Z_k$ singularity. We carry out this by defining a special scaling limit of the fields of this theory and simultaneously sending the Chern-Simons level to infinity.
We study the relationship between refined Chern-Simons theory on lens spaces S^3/Z_p and (q,t)-deformed Yang-Mills theory on the sphere S^2. We derive the instanton partition function of (q,t)-deformed U(N) Yang-Mills theory and describe it explicitly as an analytical continuation of the semi-classical expansion of refined Chern-Simons theory. The derivations are based on a generalization of the Weyl character formula to Macdonald polynomials. The expansion is used to formulate q-generalizations of beta-deformed matrix models for refined Chern-Simons theory, as well as conjectural formulas for…
The usual description of 2+1 dimensional Einstein gravity as a Chern-Simons (CS) theory is extended to a one parameter family of descriptions of 2+1 Einstein gravity. This is done by replacing the Poincare' gauge group symmetry by a q-deformed Poincare' gauge group symmetry, with the former recovered when q-> 1. As a result, we obtain a one parameter family of Hamiltonian formulations for 2+1 gravity. Although formulated in terms of noncommuting dreibeins and spin-connection fields, our expression for the action and our field equations, appropriately ordered, are identical in form to the ordin…
We study the approaches to two-dimensional integrable field theories via a six-dimensional(6D) holomorphic Chern-Simons theory defined on twistor space. Under symmetry reduction, it reduces to a four-dimensional Chern-Simons theory, while under solving along fibres it leads to four-dimensional(4D) integrable theory, the anti-self-dual Yang-Mills or its generalizations. From both four-dimensional theories, various two-dimensional integrable field theories can be obtained. In this work, we try to investigate several two-dimensional integrable deformations in this framework. We find that the $λ$-…
We consider 3+1-dimensional gauge theories at finite temperature and a finite density of charges which couple to a 2+1-dimensional Chern-Simons operator, giving rise to a theta-term with constant spatial gradient of theta. The strong-coupling limit of thermal N=4 super-Yang-Mills theory with this kind of anisotropic deformation has been used in the context of the AdS/CFT correspondence as a model for strongly coupled anisotropic quark-gluon plasma. In this paper we work out the thermodynamics and the (nontrivial) phase diagram in the limit of vanishing gauge coupling and compare with the corre…
Higher dimensional Chern-Simons theories, even though constructed along the same topological pattern as in 2+1 dimensions, have been shown recently to have generically a non-vanishing number of degrees of freedom. In this paper, we carry out the complete Dirac Hamiltonian analysis (separation of first and second class constraints and calculation of the Dirac bracket) for a group GxU(1). We also study the algebra of surface charges that arise in the presence of boundaries and show that it is isomorphic to the WZW4 discussed in the literature. Some applications are then considered. It is shown, …
In this note we consider the symplectic reduction of a four-dimensional holomorphic Chern-Simons theory recently introduced in arXiv:1908.02289 for describing integrable field theories. We work out explicitly the case of the lambda deformed Principal Chiral Model (PCM) and show that the symplectic reduction works as a localization mechanism. The reduced Chern-Simons theory restricts to the set of poles of the twist function underlying the theory, where the known classical integrability of the lambda deformed PCM can be reconstructed from the phase space data associated to this set of points in…
