Let f_1 and f_2 be real analytic germs of independent variables. In this paper, we assume that f_1, f_2 and f = f_1 + f_2 satisfy a_f -condition. Then we show that the tubular Milnor fiber of f is homotopy equivalent to the join of tubular Milnor fibers of f_1 and f_2.
We study the analytic and topological invariants associated with complex normal surface singularities. Our goal is to provide topological formulae for several discrete analytic invariants whenever the analytic structure is generic (with respect to a fixed topological type), under the condition that the link is a rational homology sphere. The list of analytic invariants include: the geometric genus, the cohomology of certain natural line bundles, the cohomology of their restrictions on effective cycles (supported on the exceptional curve of a resolution), the cohomological cycle of natural line…
We use topological methods to prove a semicontinuity property of the Hodge spectra for analytic germs defined on an isolated surface singularity. For this we introduce an analogue of the Seifert matrix (the fractured Seifert matrix), and of the Levine--Tristram signatures associated with it, defined for null-homologous links in arbitrary three dimensional manifolds. Moreover, we establish Murasugi type inequalities in the presence of cobordisms of links. It turns out that the fractured Seifert matrix determines the Hodge spectrum and the Murasugi type inequalities can be read as spectrum semic…
In this note we provide a formula for the Tjurina number of a join of isolated hypersurface singularities in separated variables. From this we are able to provide a characterization of isolated hypersurface singularities whose difference between the Milnor and Tjurina numbers is less or equal than two arising as the join of isolated hypersurface singularities in separated variables. Also, we are able to provide new upper bounds for the quotient of Milnor and Tjurina numbers of certain join of isolated hypersurface singularities. Finally, we deduce an upper bound for the quotient of Milnor and …
We compute Bernstein-Sato polynomials of some pairs of topologically equivalent plane curve singularities. Some pairs have the same Tjurina number but distinct Bernstein-Sato polynomials, which implies that they are not analytically equivalent.
We give partial answers to a metric version of Zariski's multiplicity conjecture. In particular, we prove the multiplicity of complex analytic surface (not necessarily isolated) singularities in $\mathbb{C}^3$ is a bi-Lipschitz invariant.
We study the sheaf of locally square integrable holomorphic section of vector bundle with semi-positive curved singular Hermitian metric. We confirm the coherence when its induced determinant metric has analytic singularities.
We associate (under a minor assumption) to any analytic isolated singularity of dimension $n\geq 2$ the `analytic lattice cohomology' ${\mathbb H}^*_{an}=\oplus_{q\geq 0}{\mathbb H}^q_{an}$. Each ${\mathbb H}^q_{an}$ is a graded ${\mathbb Z}[U]$--module. It is the extension to higher dimension of the `analytic lattice cohomology' defined for a normal surface singularity with a rational homology sphere link. This latest one is the analytic analogue of the `topological lattice cohomology' of the link of the normal surface singularity, which conjecturally is isomorphic to the Heegaard Floer cohom…
An \emph{$\mathbb{R}$-join-type curve} is a curve in $\mathbb{C}^2$ defined by an equation of the form \begin{equation*} a\cdot\prod_{j=1}^\ell (y-β_j)^{ν_j} = b\cdot\prod_{i=1}^m (x-α_i)^{λ_i}, \end{equation*} where the coefficients $a$, $b$, $α_i$ and $β_j$ are \emph{real} numbers. For generic values of $a$ and $b$, the singular locus of the curve consists of the points $(α_i,β_j)$ with $λ_i,ν_j\geq 2$ (so-called \emph{inner} singularities). In the non-generic case, the inner singularities are not the only ones: the curve may also have \emph{`outer'} singularities. The fundamental groups of …
By using superisolated surface singularities whose link is a rational homology sphere we give counterexamples to some of the most important conjetures concernig invariants of normal surface singularities.
In this paper, the notion of local algebraic fundamental groups of normal complex analytic singularities are generalized to certain profinite groups called $D$-local algebraic fundamental groups which turns out to be useful even for the study of usual local algebraic fundamental groups and the Lefshetz type theorem for $D$-local algebraic fundamental groups is proved under certain conditions. The theorem yields, for example, the finiteness of the local algebraic fundamental groups of a certain class of four dimensional singularities and will be useful for the classification of three dimensiona…
The main question we target is the following: If one fixes a topological type of a complex normal surface singularity then what are the possible analytic types supported by it, and/or, what are the possible values of the geometric genus? We answer the question for a specific (in some sense pathological) topological type, which supports rather different analytic structures. These structures are listed together with some of their key analytic invariants.
We prove the logarithmic divergence of equivariant analytic torsion for one-parameter degenerations of projective algebraic manifolds, when the coefficient vector bundle is given by a Nakano semi-positive vector bundle twisted by the relative canonical bundle.
We explore the existence of irreducible and reducible arc-sections in an irreducible hypersurface singularity germ along finite projections. In particular we provide examples of irreducible isolated hypersurface singularities for which no irreducible arc-sections exist, and show that reducible ones always exist. Moreover, we give an algorithm to check if a given projection allows irreducible arc-sections, and find them if they exist.
Generalized analytic functions over generalized analytic manifolds are build from sums of convergent real power series with non-negative real exponents (and some well-ordering condition on the support). In a paper by Martín-Villaverde, Rolin and Sanz-Sánchez it is established a result of local reduction of singularities for such a functions. In this paper we deal with a first approach of the global problem. Namely, we prove that a germ of generalized analytic function can be transformed by a finite sequence of blowing-ups with closed centers into a function which is locally of monomial type wi…
We provide combinatorial/topological formula for the multiplicity of a complex analytic normal surface singularity whenever the analytic structure on the fixed topological type is generic.
We construct the analytic lattice cohomology associated with the analytic type of any complex normal surface singularity. It is the categorification of the geometric genus of the germ, whenever the link is a rational homology sphere. It is the analytic analogue of the topological lattice cohomology, associated with the link of the germ whenever it is a rational homology sphere. This topological lattice cohomology is the categorification of the Seiberg--Witten invariant, and conjecturally it is isomorphic with the Heegaard Floer cohomology. We compare the two lattice cohomologies: in some simpl…
We construct the equivariant analytic lattice cohomology associated with the analytic type of a complex normal surface singularity whenever the link is a rational homology sphere. It is the categorification of the equivariant geometric genus of the germ. This is the analytic analogue of the topological lattice cohomology, associated with the link of the germ, and indexed by the spin$^c$--structures of the link (which is a categorification of the Seiberg--Witten invariant and conjecturally it is isomorphic with the Heegaard Floer cohomology).
We prove that for two germs of analytic mappings $f,g\colon (\mathbb{C}^n,0) \rightarrow (\mathbb{C}^p,0)$ with the same Newton polyhedra which are (Khovanskii) non-degenerate and their zero sets are complete intersections with isolated singularity at the origin, there is a piecewise analytic family $\{f_t\}$ of analytic maps with $f_0=f, f_1=g$ which has a so-called {\it uniform stable radius for the Milnor fibration}. As a corollary, we show that their Milnor numbers are equal. Also, a formula for the Milnor number is given in terms of the Newton polyhedra of the component functions. This is…
We introduce graded, enriched characteristic cycles as a method for encoding Morse modules of strata with respect to a constructible complex of sheaves. Using this new device, we obtain results for arbitrary complex analytic functions on arbitrarily singular complex analytic spaces.
This is a part survey part research paper studying the local topology of complex analytic spaces. We review and strengthen the results of Kapovich--Kollár "Fundamental groups of links of isolated singularities" (1109.4047) and incorporate the paper "Dual graphs of exceptional divisors" (1203.2640) into the current one. A new result is the characterization of the fundamental group of links of Cohen-Macaulay singularities. The last section lists numerous open problems and conjectures. Version 2: Questions 62--65 revised following comments of Shaneson and Maxim. Version 3: Many small changes, esp…
Let (X,O) be a real analytic isolated surface singularity at the origin o of a real analytic manifold M equipped with a real analytic metric g. Given a real analytic function f:(M,O) --> (R,0) singular at O, we prove that the gradient trajectories for the metric g|(X,O) of the restriction f|X escaping from or ending up at the origin O do not oscillate. Such a trajectory is thus a sub-pfaffian set. Moreover, in each connected component of XØwhere the restricted gradient does not vanish, there is always a trajectory accumulating at O and admitting a formal asymptotic expansion at O
The singularity space consists of all germs $(X,x)$, with $X$ a Noetherian scheme and $x$ a point, where we identify two such germs if they become the same after an analytic extension of scalars. This is a Polish space for the metric given by the order to which infinitesimal neighborhoods, or jets, agree after base change. In other words, the classification of singularities up to analytic extensions of scalars is a smooth problem in the sense of descriptive set-theory. Over $\mathbb C$, the following two classification problems up to isomorphism are now smooth: (i) analytic germs; and (ii) pol…
We discuss Hironaka's theorem on resolution of singularities in charactetistic 0 as well as more recent progress, both on simplifying and improving Hironaka's method of proof and on new results and directions on families of varieties, leading to joint work on toroidal orbifolds with Michael Temkin and Jarosław Włodarczyk.
By Hironaka Desingularization Theorem, any real analytic function has only normal crossing singularities after a suitable modification. We focus on the analytic equivalence of such functions with only normal crossing singularities. We prove that for such functions $C^{\infty}$ right equivalence implies analytic equivalence. We prove moreover that the cardinality of the set of equivalence classes is zero or countable.
We define Chern and Segre forms, or rather currents, associated with a Griffiths positive singular hermitian metric $h$ with analytic singularities on a holomorphic vector bundle $E$. The currents are constructed as pushforwards of generalized Monge-Ampère products on the projectivization of $E$. The Chern and Segre currents represent the Chern and Segre classes of $E$, respectively, and coincide with the Chern and Segre forms of $E$ and $h$, where $h$ is smooth. Moreover, our currents coincide with the Chern and Segre forms constructed by the first three authors and Ruppenthal in the cases wh…
There is presented a method for computing the number of branches of a real analytic curve germ from $R^n$ to $R^m$, where m is greater or equal to n, having a singular point at the origin, and the number of half--branches of the set of double points of an analytic germ from $R^2$ to $R^3$.
This article is concerned with moduli spaces of connections on bundles on Riemann surfaces, where the structure group of the bundle may vary in different regions of the surface. Here we will describe such moduli spaces as complex symplectic manifolds, generalising the complex character varieties of Riemann surfaces.
Any germ of a complex analytic space is equipped with two natural metrics: the outer metric induced by the hermitian metric of the ambient space and the inner metric, which is the associated riemannian metric on the germ. A complex analytic germ is said Lipschitz normally embedded (LNE) if its outer and inner metrics are bilipschitz equivalent. LNE seems to be fairly rare among surface singularities; the only known LNE surface germs outside the trivial case (straight cones) are the minimal singularities. In this paper, we show that a superisolated hypersurface singularity is LNE if and only if…
We prove that if two germs of irreducible complex analytic curves at $0\in\mathbb{C}^2$ have different sequence of characteristic exponents, then there exists $0<α<1$ such that those germs are not $α$-Hölder homeomorphic. For germs of complex analytic plane curves with several irreducible components we prove that if any two of them are $α$-Hölder homeomorphic, for all $0<α<1$, then there is a correspondence between their branches preserving sequence of characteristic exponents and intersection multiplicity of pair of branches. In particular, we recovery the sequence of characteristic exponents…

We target multivariable series associated with resolutions of complex analytic normal surface singularities. In general, the equivariant multivariable analytical and topological Poincaré series are well-defined and have good properties only if the link is a rational homology sphere. We wish to create a model when this assumption is not valid: we analyse the case of cusps. For such germs we define even the motivic versions of these two series, we prove that they are equal, and we provide explicit combinatorial expression for them. This is done via a motivic multivariable series associated with …
Let X be an analytic vector field defined in a real analytic manifold of dimension three. We prove that all the singularities of X can be made elementary by a finite number of blowing-ups in the ambient space. New version: Some misprints have been corrected and the text have been slightly reorganized. The final version appears in Acta Mathematica -Volume 197, Number 2, 167-289.
Let f and g be holomorphic function-germs vanishing at the origin of a complex analytic germ of dimension three. Suppose that they have no common irreducible component and that the real analytic map-germ given by the multiplication of f by the conjugate of g has an isolated critical value at 0. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for the real analytic map-germ to have a Milnor fibration and we prove that in this case the boundary of its Milnor fibre is a Waldhausen manifold. As an intermediate milestone we describe geometrically the Milnor fibre of map-germs given by the multiplication…
Our goal in this work is to develop aspects of Bialynicki-Birula and Morse-Bott theory that can be extended from the classical setting of smooth manifolds to that of complex analytic spaces with a holomorphic $\mathbb{C}^*$ action. We extend prior results on existence of Bialynicki-Birula decompositions for compact, complex Kähler manifolds to non-compact complex manifolds and develop functorial properties of the Bialynicki-Birula decomposition, in particular with respect to blowup along a $\mathbb{C}^*$-invariant, embedded complex submanifold. We deduce the existence of a Bialynicki-Birula de…
We prove a relative Kawamata Viehweg vanishing type theorem for birational morphisms. We use this to prove a Grauert Riemenschneider theorem over log canonical threefolds without zero dimensional log canonical centers, in residue characteristic p greater than five. In large enough residue characteristics, we prove a Grauert Riemenschneider theorem over threefold log canonical singularities with standard coefficients. These vanishing theorems can also be used to study the depth of log canonical singularities at non log canonical centers, as well as the singularities of the log canonical centers…
We study deformations of plane curve singularities from an analytic point of view and obtain some new concrete results. We show some rather unexpected properties of Puiseux coefficients treated as functions on a suitably defined parameter space. The methods used in paper are very elementary.
Let $(X,o)$ be a complex analytic normal surface singularity and let ${\mathcal O}_{X,o}$ be its local ring. We investigate the normal reduction number of ${\mathcal O}_{X,o}$ and related numerical analytical invariants via resolutions $\widetilde{X}\to X$ of $(X,o)$ and cohomology groups of different line bundles ${\mathcal L}\in {\rm Pic}(\widetilde{X})$. The normal reduction number is the universal optimal bound from which powers of certain ideals have stabilization properties. Here we combine this with stability properties of the iterated Abel maps. Some of the main results provide topolog…
We study an analytically irreducible algebroid germ (X, 0) of complex singularity by considering the filtrations of its analytic algebra, and their associated graded rings, induced by the divisorial valuations associated to the irreducible components of the exceptional divisor of the normalized blow-up of the normalization (Y, 0) of (X, 0), centered at the point 0 of Y. If (X, 0) is a quasi-ordinary hypersurface singularity, we obtain that the associated graded ring is an algebra of finite type over the field of complex numbers, namely the coordinate ring of a non necessarily normal affine tor…
We construct a lattice cohomology ${\mathbb H}^*(C,o)=\oplus_{q\geq 0}{\mathbb H}^q(C,o)$ and a graded root ${\mathfrak R}(C,o)$ to any complex isolated curve singularity $(C,o)$. Each ${\mathbb H}^q(C,o)$ is a ${\mathbb Z}$-graded ${\mathbb Z}[U]$-module. The Euler characteristic of ${\mathbb H}^*(C,o)$ is the delta-invariant of $(C,o)$. The construction is based on the multivariable Hilbert series of the multifiltration provided by valuations of the normalization. Several examples are discussed, e.g. Gorenstein curves (where an additional symmetry is established), plane curves (in particular…
Let $X$ be a cubic fourfold that has only simple singularities and does not contain a plane. We prove that the Fano variety of lines on $X$ has the same analytic type of singularity as the Hilbert scheme of two points on a surface with only ADE-singularities. This is shown as a corollary to the characterization of a singularity that is obtained as a $K3^{[2]}$-type contraction and has a unique symplectic resolution.
We report on the problem of the existence of complex and real algebraic curves in the plane with prescribed singularities up to analytic and topological equivalence. The question is whether, for a given positive integer $d$ and a finite number of given analytic or topological singularity types, there exist a plane (irreducible) curve of degree $d$ having singular points of the given type as its only singularities. The set of all such curves is a quasi-projective variety, which we call an equisingular family (ESF). We describe, in terms of numerical invariants of the curves and their singularit…
We study the boundary of the Milnor fibre of real analytic singularities $f: (\bR^m,0) \to (\bR^k,0)$, $m\geq k$, with an isolated critical value and the Thom $a_f$-property. We define the vanishing zone for $f$ and we give necessary and sufficient conditions for it to be a fibre bundle over the link of the singular set of $f^{-1}(0)$. In the case of singularities of the type $\fgbar: (\bC^n,0) \to (\bC,0)$ with an isoalted critical value, $f, g$ holomorphic, we further describe the degeneration of the boundary of the Milnor fibre to the link of $\fgbar$. As a milestone, we also construct a Lê…
We introduce the concept of topological finite-determinacy for germs of analytic functions within a fixed ideal $I$, which provides a notion of topological finite-determinacy of functions with non-isolated singularities. We prove the following statement which generalizes classical results of Thom and Varchenko: let $A$ be the complement in the ideal $I$ of the space of germs whose topological type remains unchanged under a deformation within the ideal that only modifies sufficiently large order terms of the Taylor expansion; then $A$ has infinite codimension in $I$ in a suitable sense. We also…
The Hodge spectrum is an important analytic invariant of singularities encoding the Hodge filtration and the monodromy of the Milnor fiber. Explicit formulas exist for only a few cases. In this article the main result is a combinatorial formula for homogeneous polynomials in three variables whose reduced one define projective curve arrangements having only ordinary multiple points.
The Lojasiewicz inequalities for real analytic functions on Euclidean space were first proved by Stanislaw Lojasiewicz (1965) using methods of semianalytic and subanalytic sets, arguments later simplified by Bierstone and Milman (1988). In this article, we first give an elementary geometric, coordinate-based proof of the Lojasiewicz inequalities in the special case where the function is $C^1$ with simple normal crossings. We then prove, partly following Bierstone and Milman (1997) and using resolution of singularities for real analytic varieties, that the gradient inequality for an arbitrary r…
