Given a vector bundle of arbitrary rank with ample determinant line bundle on a projective manifold, we propose a new elliptic system of differential equations of Hermitian-Yang-Mills type for the curvature tensor. The system is designed so that solutions provide Hermitian metrics with positive curvature in the sense of Griffiths-and even in the dual Nakano sense. As a consequence, if an existence result could be obtained for every ample vector bundle, the Griffiths conjecture on the equivalence between ampleness and positivity of vector bundles would be settled.
In this note we study a positivity notion for the curvature of the Bismut connection; more precisely, we study the notion of \emph{Bismut-Griffiths-positivity} for complex Hermitian non-Kähler manifolds. Since the Kähler-Ricci flow preserves and regularizes the usual Griffiths positivity we investigate the behaviour of the Bismut-Griffiths-positivity under the action of the Hermitian curvature flows. In particular we study two concrete classes of examples, namely, linear Hopf manifolds and six-dimensional Calabi-Yau solvmanifolds with holomorphically-trivial canonical bundle. From these exampl…
Let $ (E,h) $ be a Griffiths semipositive Hermitian holomorphic vector bundle of rank $ 3 $ over a complex manifold. In this paper, we prove the positivity of the characteristic differential form $ c_1(E,h) \wedge c_2(E,h) - c_3(E,h) $, thus providing a new evidence towards a conjecture by Griffiths about the positivity of the Schur polynomials in the Chern forms of Griffiths semipositive vector bundles. As a consequence, we establish a new chain of inequalities between Chern forms. Moreover, we point out how to obtain the positivity of the second Chern form $ c_2(E,h) $ in any rank, starting …
In this paper, we study the Nakano-positivity and dual-Nakano-positivity of certain adjoint vector bundles associated to ample vector bundles. As applications, we get new vanishing theorems about ample vector bundles. For example, we prove that if $E$ is an ample vector bundle over a compact Kähler manifold $X$, $S^kE\ts \det E$ is both Nakano-positive and dual-Nakano-positive for any $k\geq 0$. Moreover, $H^{n,q}(X,S^kE\ts \det E)=H^{q,n}(X,S^kE\ts \det E)=0$ for any $q\geq 1$. In particular, if $(E,h)$ is a Griffiths-positive vector bundle, the naturally induced Hermitian vector bundle $(S^k…
We prove that a "cushioned" Hermitian-Einstein-type equation proposed by Demailly in an approach towards a conjecture of Griffiths on the existence of a Griffiths positively curved metric on a Hartshorne ample vector bundle, has an essentially unique solution when the bundle is stable. This result indicates that the proposed approach must be modified in order to attack the aforementioned conjecture of Griffiths.
The Griffiths conjecture asserts that every ample vector bundle $E$ over a compact complex manifold $S$ admits a hermitian metric with positive curvature in the sense of Griffiths. In this article we give a sufficient condition for a positive hermitian metric on $\mathcal{O}_{\mathbb{P}(E^*)}(1)$ to induce a Griffiths positive $L^2$-metric on the vector bundle $E$. This result suggests to study the relative Kähler-Ricci flow on $\mathcal{O}_{\mathbb{P}(E^*)}(1)$ for the fibration $\mathbb{P}(E^*)\to S$. We define a flow and give arguments for the convergence.
For a holomorphic vector bundle $E$ over a Hermitian manifold $M$ there are two important notions of curvature positivity, the Griffiths positivity and Nakano positivity. We study the consequence of these positivities and the relevant estimates. If $E$ is Griffiths negative over Kähler manifold, then there is a Kähler metric on its total space $E$, and we calculate the curvature and prove the non-positivity of the curvature along the tautological direction. The Nakano positivity can be formulated as a positivity for the Nakano curvature operator and we give estimate the Nakano curvature operat…
We prove that a system of equations introduced by Demailly (to attack a conjecture of Griffiths) has a smooth solution for a direct sum of ample line bundles on a Riemann surface. We also reduce the problem for general vector bundles to an a priori estimate using Leray-Schauder degree theory.
We prove that the $L^2$ metric on the direct image of an adjoint positive line bundle by a locally trivial submersion between projective manifolds is Nakano positive, under the assumption that the typical fiber has zero first Betti number. As a consequence, we get that the symmetric powers of an ample vector bundle tensorized by its determinant are Nakano positive, in particular Griffiths positive. This in turn gives vanishing theorems and an analytic characterization of ample vector bundles.
For an arbitrary-rank vector bundle over a projective manifold, J.-P. Demailly proposed several systems of equations of Hermitian-Yang-Mills type for the curvature tensor to settle a conjecture of Griffiths on the equivalence of Hartshorne ampleness and Griffiths positivity. In this article, we have studied two proposed systems and proved that these equations have smooth solutions for the Vortex bundle using the continuity method.
The purpose of this paper is to prove that the Hermitian Curvature Flow (HCF) on an Hermitian manifold $(M,g,J)$ preserves many natural curvature positivity conditions. Following Wilking, for an $Ad\,{GL(T^{1,0}M)}$-invariant subset $S\subset End(T^{1,0}M)$ and a ncie function $F\colon End(T^{1,0}M)\to\mathbb R$ we construct a convex set of curvature operators $C(S,F)$, which is invariant under the HCF. Varying $S$ and $F$, we prove that the HCF preserves Griffiths positivity, Dual-Nakano positivity, positivity of holomorphic orthogonal bisectional curvature, lower bounds on the second scalar …
Let $X$ be a complex manifold, $(E,h)\to X$ be a rank $r$ holomorphic hermitian vector bundle, and $ρ$ be a sequence of dimensions $0 = ρ_0 < ρ_1 < \cdots < ρ_m = r$. Let $Q_{ρ,j}$, $j=1,\dots,m$, be the tautological line bundles over the (possibly incomplete) flag bundle $\mathbb{F}_ρ(E) \to X$ associated to $ρ$, endowed with the natural metrics induced by that of $E$, with Chern curvatures $Ξ_{ρ,j}$. We show that the universal Gysin formula \textsl{à la} Darondeau--Pragacz for the push-forward of a homogeneous polynomial in the Chern classes of the $Q_{ρ,j}$'s also hold pointwise at the leve…
We introduce a notion of admissible Hermitian metrics on parabolic bundles and define positivity properties for the same. We develop Chern-Weil theory for parabolic bundles and prove that our metric notions coincide with the already existing algebro-geometric versions of parabolic Chern classes. We also formulate a Griffiths conjecture in the parabolic setting and prove some results that provide evidence in its favour for certain kinds of parabolic bundles. For these kinds of parabolic structures, we prove that the conjecture holds on Riemann surfaces. We also prove that a Berndtsson-type resu…
We study the positivity properties of Hermitian (or even Finsler) holomorphic vector bundles in terms of $L^p$-estimates of $\bar\partial$ and $L^p$-extensions of holomorphic objects. To this end, we introduce four conditions, called the optimal $L^p$-estimate condition, the multiple coarse $L^p$-estimate condition, the optimal $L^p$-extension condition, and the multiple coarse $L^p$-extension condition, for a Hermitian (or Finsler) vector bundle $(E,h)$. The main result of the present paper is to give a characterization of the Nakano positivity of $(E,h)$ via the optimal $L^2$-estimate condit…
In this paper, we introduce a flow over the projective bundle $p:P(E^*)\to M$, which is a natural generalization of both Hermitian-Yang-Mills flow and Kähler-Ricci flow. We prove that the semipositivity of curvature of the hyperplane line bundle $\mathcal{O}_{P(E^*)}(1)$ is preserved along this flow under the null eigenvector assumption. As applications, we prove that the semipositivity is preserved along the this flow if the base manifold $M$ is a curve, which implies that the Griffiths semipositivity is preserved along the Hermitian-Yang-Mills flow over a curve. And we also reprove that the …
In this paper, we consider the CM line bundle on the K-moduli space, i.e., the moduli space parametrizing K-polystable Fano varieties. We prove it is ample on any proper subspace parametrizing reduced uniformly K-stable Fano varieties which conjecturally should be the entire moduli space. As a corollary, we prove that the moduli space parametrizing smoothable K-polystable Fano varieties is projective. During the course of proof, we develop a new invariant for filtrations which can be used to test various K-stability notions of Fano varieties.
The Chow-Mumford (CM) line bundle is a functorial line bundle on the base of any family of klt Fano varieties. It is conjectured that it yields a polarization on the moduli space of K-poly-stable klt Fano varieties. Proving ampleness of the CM line bundle boils down to showing semi-positivity/positivity statements about the CM-line bundle for families with K-semi-stable/K-polystable fibers. We prove the necessary semi-positivity statements in the K-semi-stable situation, and the necessary positivity statements in the uniform K-stable situation, including in both cases variants assuming K-stabi…
Given a holomorphic family $f:\mathcal{X} \to S$ of compact complex manifolds of dimension $n$ and a relatively ample line bundle $L\to \mathcal{X}$, the higher direct images $R^{n-p}f_*Ω^p_{\mathcal{X}/S}(L)$ carry a natural hermitian metric. We give an explicit formula for the curvature tensor of these direct images. This generalizes the result of Schumacher, where he computed the curvature of $R^{n-p}f_*Ω^p_{\mathcal{X}/S}(K_{\mathcal{X}/S}^{\otimes m})$ for a family of canonically polarized manifolds. For $p=n$, it coincides with a formula of Berndtsson. Thus, when $L$ is globally ample, w…
This survey article mainly addresses to graduate students and young researchers in complex geometry willing to enter the beautiful word of connections between curvature and Kobayashi hyperbolicity. It is a detailed account of a recent breakthrough by Wu and Yau, shortly after generalized by Tosatti and Yang (and others), which sits on the crossroad between complex differential geometry and Kobayashi hyperbolicity. More specifically, an old conjecture by Kobayashi, stated at the very beginning of the theory, predicts that a compact hyperbolic manifold should have ample canonical bundle. Now, on…
In this work, we show that along a particular choice of Hermitian curvature flow, the non-positivity of Chern-Ricci curvature will be preserved if the initial metric has non-positive bisectional curvature. As an application, we show that the canonical line bundle of a compact Hermitian manifold with nonpositive bisectional curvature and quasi-negative Chern-Ricci curvature is ample.
