The spin-sensitive charge oscillation, controlled by an external magnetic field, was recently proposed as a mechanism of transformations of qubits, defined as two-electron spin-charge Wannier molecules in a square quantum dot. The paper expands this idea by including the effects of Rashba type spin-orbit coupling. The problem is studied theoretically by mapping the system to an analytic effective Hamiltonian for 8 low energy states, comprising singlet and triplet on each dot diagonal. The validity of the mapping is confirmed by comparing the energy and spin of full and mapped system, and also by the reproduction of charge-oscillation dynamics in the presence of magnetic flux. The newly introduced Rashba coupling significantly enriches the system dynamics, affecting the magnitude of charge oscillations and allowing the controlled transitions between singlet and triplet states due to the spin rotations, induced by spin-orbit coupling. The results indicate the possibility for use of the studied system for quantum information processing, while possible extensions of the system to serve as a qubit in a universal quantum computer, fulfilling all five DiVincenzo criteria, are also discussed.
An exact solution is presented for the time-dependent wavefunction of a Kramers doublet which propagates around a quantum ring with tuneable Rashba spin-orbit interaction. By propagating in segments it is shown that Kramers-doublet qubits may be defined for which transformations on the Bloch sphere may be performed for an integral number of revolutions around the ring. The conditions for full coverage of the Bloch sphere are determined and explained in terms of sequential qubit rotations due to electron motion along the segments, with change of rotation axes between segments due to adiabatic c…
We study the lifetime of topological qubits based on Majorana bound states hosted in a one-dimensional Rashba nanowire (NW) with proximity-induced superconductivity and non-uniform chemical potential needed for manipulation and read-out. If nearby gates tune the chemical potential locally so that part of the NW is in the trivial phase, Andreev bound states (ABSs) can emerge which are localized at the interface between topological and trivial phases with energies significantly less than the gap. The emergence of such subgap states strongly decreases the Majorana qubit lifetime at finite tempera…
The electric dipole spin resonance (EDSR) combining strong spin-orbit coupling (SOC) and electric-dipole transitions facilitates fast spin control in a scalable way, which is the critical aspect of the rapid progress made recently in germanium (Ge) hole-spin qubits. However, a puzzle is raised because centrosymmetric Ge lacks the Dresselhaus SOC, a key element in the initial proposal of the hole-based EDSR. Here, we demonstrate that the recently uncovered finite k-linear Rashba SOC of 2D holes offers fast hole spin control via EDSR with Rabi frequencies in excellent agreement with experimental…
We investigate double finger gate (DFG) controlled spin-resolved resonant transport properties in an n-type quantum channel with a Rashba-Zeeman (RZ) subband energy gap. By appropriately tuning the DFG in the strong Rashba coupling regime, resonant state structures in conductance can be found that is sensitive to the length of the DFG system. Furthermore, a hole-like bound state feature below the RZ gap and an electron-like quasi-bound state feature at the threshold of the upper spin branch can be found that is insensitive to the length of the DFG system.
Manipulation of Rashba effects in two-dimensional (2D) electron systems is highly desirable for controllable applications in spintronics and optoelectronics. Here, by combining first-principles investigation and model analysis, we use uniaxial stress to control BiTeI monolayer as a Rashba 2D semiconductor for useful spin and transport properties. We find that the stress-driven electron system can be described by an effective anisotropic Rashba model including all the three Pauli matrixes, and uniaxial stress allows an out-of-plane spin component. When appropriate electron carriers are introduc…
A spin-qubit transformation protocol is proposed for an electron in a mesoscopic quantum ring with tunable Rashba interaction controlled by the external electric field. The dynamics of an electron driven around the ring by a series of Landau-Zenner-like transitions between a finite number of local voltage gates is determined analytically. General single-qubit transformations are demonstrated to be feasible in a dynamical basis of localized pseudo-spin states. It is also demonstrated that by the use of suitable protocols based on changes of the Rashba interaction full Bloch sphere can be covere…
A reconfigurable logic gate is proposed in a two-dimensional double quantum wire system with a coupling window enabled by a Rashba field. Manipulating the spin states of incoming electrons several quantum logic gates (OR, AND, XOR, CNOT) can be implemented. The logic gate functionality can be switched by tuning the Rashba parameter only. In this context, we investigate suitable configurations of the device region by embedding a quantum point contact located in the coupling region to obtain all four logic gates. The ballistic spin polarized transmission functions are calculated using an effecti…
Suspended nanowires are shown to provide mechanically-controlled coherent mixing/splitting of the spin states of transmitted electrons, caused by the Rashba spin-orbit interaction. The sensitivity of the latter to mechanical bending makes the wire a tunable nano-electro-mechanical (NEM) weak link between reservoirs. When the reservoirs are populated with misbalanced "spin up/down" electrons, the wire becomes a source of split spin currents, which are not associated with electric charge transfer and which do not depend on temperature or driving voltages. The mechanical vibrations of the bended …
Ferromagnetic materials are the widely used source of spin-polarized electrons in spintronic devices, which are controlled by external magnetic fields or spin-transfer torque methods. However, with increasing demand for smaller and faster spintronic components, utilization of spin-orbit phenomena provides promising alternatives. New materials with unique spin textures are highly desirable since all-electric creation and control of spin polarization is expected, where the strength, as well as an arbitrary orientation of the polarization, can be defined without the use of a magnetic field. In th…
We propose the mesoscopic device based on the Rashba spin orbit interaction (SOI) that contains a gated ballistic Aharonov-Bohm (AB) ring with incoming lead and two asymmetrically situated outgoing leads. The variations of the Rashba coupling parameter induced by the gate voltage applied to the AB ring is shown to cause the redistribution of the carrier flux between the outgoing leads and spin polarization of the outgoing currents, thus allowing the system to manifest the properties of the quantum splitter and spin filter.
We theoretically analyze the Andreev bound states and their coupling to external radiation in superconductor-nanowire-superconductor Josephson junctions. We provide an effective Hamiltonian for the junction projected onto the Andreev level subspace and incorporating the effects of nanowire multichannel structure, Rashba spin-orbit coupling, and Zeeman field. Based on this effective model, we investigate the dependence of the Andreev levels and the matrix elements of the current operator on system parameters such as chemical potential, nanowire dimensions, and normal transmission. We show that …
We propose a theoretical scheme to realize arbitrary single-qubit gates through two simple device units: one-dimensional semiconductor wires with Dresselhaus spin-orbit coupling (SOC) and Rashba SOC, separately. Qubit information coded by the electron spin can be accurately manipulated by the SOC when crossing the semiconductor wire. The different manipulative behaviors in Dresselhaus and Rashba wires enable us to make the diverse quantum logic gates. Furthermore, by connecting the Dresselhaus and Rashba units in series, we obtain a universal set of single qubit gates: Hadamard, phase, and $π/…
In the presence of extrinsic Rashba spin-orbit coupling, we find that silicene can host a new quantum anomalous Hall state with spin- and valley-polarized edge states, which can be effectively controlled by the exchange field and electric field. In this new state, the pair of nontrivial edge states reside in one specific valley and have a strong but opposite spin polarization. A distinctive feature of this new state is that both of the spin and valley index of the edge states can be switched by reversing the electric field. We also present a microscopic mechanism for the origination of the new…
Strong spin-orbit coupling in noncentrosymmetric materials and interfaces results in remarkable physical phenomena, such as nontrivial spin textures, which may exhibit Rashba, Dresselhaus, and other intricated configurations. This provides a promising basis for nonvolatile spintronic devices and further implications. Here, we simulate from first principles a two-dimensional electron gas in ultrathin platinum and palladium layers grown on ferroelectric PbTiO$_3$(001). The latter allows, in principle, to switch and control the spin-to-charge conversion by the polarization reversal. We show how t…

We address the electromagnetic properties of two-dimensional electron gas confined by a dielectric environment in the presence of both Rashba and Dresselhaus spin-orbit interactions. It is demonstrated that off-diagonal components of the conductivity tensor resulting from a delicate interplay between Rashba and Dresselhaus couplings lead to the hybridization of transverse electric and transverse magnetic surface electromagnetic modes localized at the interface. We show that the characteristics of these hybrid surface waves can be controlled by additional intense external off-resonant coherent …
Spin-1/2 electrons are scattered through one or two diamond-like loops, made of quantum dots connected by one-dimensional wires, and subject to both an Aharonov-Bohm flux and (Rashba and Dresselhaus) spin-orbit interactions. With some symmetry between the two branches of each diamond, and with appropriate tuning of the electric and magnetic fields (or of the diamond shapes) this device completely blocks electrons with one polarization, and allows only electrons with the opposite polarization to be transmitted. The directions of these polarizations are tunable by these fields, and do not depend…
Spin polarization induced by an external electric field in graphene is considered theoretically in the linear response regime. The graphene is assumed to be deposited on a substrate which leads to the spin-orbit interaction of Rashba type. The induced spin polarization is shown to be in the graphene plane and perpendicular to the electric field. However, the spin polarization changes sign when the Fermi level, whose position can be controlled by an external gate voltage, crosses the Dirac points.
In the current work we have investigated the influence of the Rashba spin-orbit coupling on spin-current of a single layer gapped graphene. It was shown that the Rashba coupling has a considerable role in generation of the spin-current of vertical spins in mono-layer graphene. The behavior of the spin-current is determined by density of impurities. It was also shown that the spin-current of the system could increase by increasing the Rashba coupling strength and band-gap of the graphene and the sign of the spin-current could be controlled by the direction of the current-driving electric field.
We report on $\vec{k}\cdot\vec{p}$ calculations of Rashba spin-orbit coupling controlled by external gates in InAs/InAsP core-shell nanowires. We show that charge spilling in the barrier material allows for a stronger symmetry breaking than in homoegenous nano-materials, inducing a specific interface-related contribution to spin-orbit coupling. Our results qualitatively agree with recent experiments [S. Futhemeier \textit{et al.}, Nat. Commun. \textbf{7}, 12413 (2016)] and suggest additional wavefunction engineering strategies to enhance and control spin-orbit coupling.
The generation of spin current and spin polarization in 2DEG Rashba system is considered, in which the spin-orbital coupling (SOC) is modulated by an ac gate voltage. By using non-Abelian gauge field method, we show the presence of an additional electric field. This field induces a spin current generated even in the presence of impurity scattering and is related to the time-modulation of the Rashba SOC strength. In addition, the spin precession can be controlled by modulating the modulation frequency of the Rashba SOC strength. It is shown that at high modulation frequency, the precessional mo…
We study the tunability of the spin-orbit interaction in a two-dimensional electron gas with a front and a back gate electrode by monitoring the spin precession frequency of drifting electrons using time-resolved Kerr rotation. The Rashba spin splitting can be tuned by the gate biases, while we find a small Dresselhaus splitting that depends only weakly on the gating. We determine the absolute values and signs of the two components and show that for zero Rashba spin splitting the anisotropy of the spin-dephasing rate vanishes.
Quasi--one dimensional edge channels are formed at the boundary of a two-dimensional electron system subject to a strong perpendicular magnetic field. We consider the effect of Rashba spin--orbit coupling, induced by structural inversion asymmetry, on their electronic and transport properties. Both our analytical and numerical results show that spin--split quantum--Hall edge channels exhibit properties analogous to that of Rashba--split quantum wires. Suppressed backscattering and a long spin life time render these edge channels an ideal system for observing voltage--controlled spin precession…
We compute the magnetocrystalline anisotropy energy within two-dimensional Rashba models. For a ferromagnetic free-electron Rashba model, the magnetic anisotropy is exactly zero regardless of the strength of the Rashba coupling, unless only the lowest band is occupied. For this latter case, the model predicts in-plane anisotropy. For a more realistic Rashba model with finite band width, the magnetic anisotropy evolves from in-plane to perpendicular and back to in-plane as bands are progressively filled. This evolution agrees with first-principles calculations on the interfacial anisotropy, sug…
We develop a theory of designing slit experiments in two-dimensional electron systems with the Rashba spin-orbit interaction. By simulating the spatiotemporal dynamics of electrons passing through a single slit or a double slit, we find that the interference fringes of the electron probability density attain specific spin orientations via the precession of spins around effective magnetic fields mediated by the Rashba spin-orbit interaction whose directions are determined by the propagation path. The spin orientations of the fringes can be controlled by tuning the Rashba spin-orbit parameter, w…
Electron optics exploits the analogies between rays in geometrical optics and electron trajectories, leading to interesting insights and potential applications. Graphene, with its two-dimensionality and photon-like behavior of its charge carriers, is the perfect candidate for the exploitation of electron optics. We show that a circular gate-controlled region in the presence of Rashba spin-orbit interaction in graphene may indeed behave as a Veselago electronic lens but with two different indices of refraction. We demonstrate that this birefringence results in complex caustics patterns for a ci…

Using the Kubo formalism, the magnetic properties of the system in the linear regime have been investigated. Mainly the effect of non-magnetic substrate on the spin susceptibility is calculated. Results show that the Rashba coupling interaction has a central role in the magnetic response function of the system and it is really remarkable since this type of spin orbit coupling can be effectively controlled by an external gate voltage. Most importantly it was shown that, in the presence of the Rashba interaction a magnetic phase transition could be observed. This magnetic phase corresponds to a …
In this study, the Optical conductivity of substitutionary doped graphene is investigated in presence of the Rashba spin orbit coupling (RSOC). Calculations have been performed within the coherent potential approximation (CPA) beyond the Dirac cone approximation. Results of the current study demonstrate that the optical conductivity is increased by increasing the RSOC strength. Meanwhile it was observed that the anisotropy of the band energy results in a considerable anisotropic optical conductivity (AOC) in monolayer graphene. The sign and magnitude of this anisotropic conductivity was shown …
We experimentally demonstrate quantum process tomography of controlled-Z and controlled-NOT gates using capacitively-coupled superconducting phase qubits. These gates are realized by using the $|2\rangle$ state of the phase qubit. We obtain a process fidelity of 0.70 for the controlled-phase and 0.56 for the controlled-NOT gate, with the loss of fidelity mostly due to single-qubit decoherence. The controlled-Z gate is also used to demonstrate a two-qubit Deutsch-Jozsa algorithm with a single function query.
We propose the lead sulphide (PbS) monolayer as a 2D semiconductor with a large Rashba-like spin-orbit effect controlled by the out-of-plane buckling. The buckled PbS conduction band is found to possess Rashba-like dispersion and spin texture at the $M$ and $Γ$ points, with large effective Rashba parameters of $λ\sim5~$eV$Å~$ and $λ\sim1~$eV$~Å$, respectively. Using a tight-binding formalism, we show that the Rashba effect originates from the very large spin-orbit interaction and the hopping term that mixes the in-plane and out-of-plane $p$ orbitals of Pb and S atoms. The latter, which depends…
In the context of one-dimensional fermionic systems, helical Luttiger liquids are not only characterized by intriguing spin properties, but also by the possibility to be manipulated by means of electrostatic gates, exploiting finite Rashba coupling. We use this property to show that a heterostructure composed of a helical Luttinger liquid, contacted to two metallic leads and supplemented by top gates, can be used as a tunable thermal valve. By relying on bosonization techniques and scattering of plasmonic modes, we investigate the performance of this valve with respect to electron-electron int…
We study the effect of disorder on the intrinsic anomalous Hall (AH) conductivity in a spin-polarized two-dimensional electron gas with a Rashba-type spin-orbit interaction. We find that AH conductivity vanishes unless the lifetime is spin-dependent, similar to the spin Hall (SH) conductivity in the non-magnetic system. In addition, we find that the SH conductivity does not vanish in the presence of magnetic scatterers. We show that the SH conductivity can be controlled by changing the amount of the magnetic impurities.
Using standard quantum network method, we analytically investigate the effect of Rashba spin-orbit coupling (RSOC) and a magnetic field on the spin transport properties of a polygonal quantum ring. Using Landauer-Buttiker formula, we have found that the polarization direction and phase of transmitted electrons can be controlled by both the magnetic field and RSOC. A device to generate a spin-polarized conductance in a polygon with an arbitrary number of sides is discussed. This device would permit precise control of spin and selectively provide spin filtering for either spin up or spin down si…
The design of scalable quantum computers will benefit from predictive models for qubit performance that consider the design and layout of the qubit devices. This approach, has recently been adopted for superconducting qubits, but has received little attention for spin qubits in semiconductors. Here, we employ models for both the device and the quantum mechanical states in the valence band to theoretically investigate the properties of hole spin qubits in laterally gated quantum dots in group-IV materials, which have received significant recent attention. We find that device design impacts qubi…
Within the Kubo formalism, we estimate the spin-Hall conductivity in a two-dimensional electron gas with Rashba spin-orbit interaction and study its variation as a function of disorder strength and system size. The numerical algorithm employed in the calculation is based on the direct numerical integration of the time-dependent Schrodinger equation in a spin-dependent variant of the particle source method. We find that the spin-precession length, L_s controlled by the strength of the Rashba coupling, establishes the critical lengthscale that marks the significant reduction of the spin-Hall con…
The coexistence of Rashba and Dresselhaus spin-orbit interactions (SOIs) in semiconductor quantum wells leads to an anisotropic effective field coupled to carriers' spins. We demonstrate a gate-controlled anisotropy in Aharonov-Casher (AC) spin interferometry experiments with InGaAs mesoscopic rings by using an in-plane magnetic field as a probe. Supported by a perturbation-theory approach, we find that the Rashba SOI strength controls the AC resistance anisotropy via spin dynamic and geometric phases and establish ways to manipulate them by employing electric and magnetic tunings. Moreover, a…
We study the magnetic anisotropy which arises at the interface between a thin film ferromagnet and a 3-d Rashba material. The 3-d Rashba material is characterized by the spin-orbit strength $α$ and the direction of broken bulk inversion symmetry $\hat n$. We find an in-plane uniaxial anisotropy in the $\hat{z}\times\hat{n}$ direction, where $\hat z$ is the interface normal. For realistic values of $α$, the uniaxial anisotropy is of a similar order of magnitude as the bulk magnetocrystalline anisotropy. Evaluating the uniaxial anisotropy for a simplified model in 1-d shows that for small band f…
In an earlier paper [Phys. Rev. B 84, 035323 (2011)], we proposed a spin filter which was based on a diamond-like interferometer, subject to both an Aharonov-Bohm flux and (Rashba and Dresselhaus) spin-orbit interactions. Here we show that the full polarization of the outgoing electron spins remains the same even when one allows leakage of electrons from the branches of the interferometer. Once the gate voltage on one of the branches is tuned to achieve an effective symmetry between them, this polarization can be controlled by the electric and/or magnetic fields which determine the spin-orbit …
The experimental assessment of the strength ($α_R$) of the Rashba spin-orbit coupling is rather indirect and involves the measurement of the spin relaxation length from magnetotransport, together with a model of weak antilocalization. The analysis of the spin relaxation length in nanowires, however, clouds the experimental assessment of the $α_R$ and leads to the prevailing belief that it can be tuned freely with electric field--a central tenant of spintronics. Here, we report direct theory of $α_R$ leading to atomistic calculations of the spin band structure of InAs nanowires upon application…
In this work we study the effects of a longitudinal periodic potential on a parabolic quantum wire defined in a two-dimensional electron gas with Rashba spin-orbit interaction. For an infinite wire superlattice we find, by direct diagonalization, that the energy gaps are shifted away from the usual Bragg planes due to the Rashba spin-orbit interaction. Interestingly, our results show that the location of the band gaps in energy can be controlled via the strength of the Rashba spin-orbit interaction. We have also calculated the charge conductance through a periodic potential of a finite length …
Spin-dependent heat and thermoelectric currents in a quantum ring with Rashba spin-orbit interaction placed in a photon cavity are theoretically calculated. The quantum ring is coupled to two external leads with different temperatures. In a resonant regime, with the ring structure in resonance with the photon field, the heat and the thermoelectric currents can be controlled by the Rashba spin-orbit interaction. The heat current is suppressed in the presence of the photon field due to contribution of the two-electron and photon replica states to the transport while the thermoelectric current is…
Spin-orbit interaction in semiconductor structures with broken space inversion symmetry leads to spin splitting of electron and hole states even in the absence of magnetic field. We discover that, beyond the Rashba and Dresselhaus contributions, there is an additional type of the zero-field spin splitting which is caused by the interplay of the cubic shape of crystal unit cell and macroscopic structure asymmetry. In quantum wells grown along low-symmetry crystallographic axes, this type of spin-orbit interaction couples the out-of-plane component of carrier's spin with the in-plane momentum wh…
We calculate the gate voltage (Vg) dependence of charge conductance in a normal metal (NM)/two dimensional electron gas (2DEG) junction, where Rashba spin-orbit coupling and ferromagnetism exist in the 2DEG. We call this 2DEG as the ferromagnetic Rashba metal (FRM) and the chemical potential of the FRM is controlled by Vg. We clarify the physical origin of the unconventional Vg dependence of charge conductance in the NM/FRM junction found in our previous work [J. Phys. Soc. Jpn. 87, 034710 (2018)], in which the charge conductance increases with Vg, although the number of carries in FRM decreas…
We use $\vec{k}\cdot\vec{p}$ theory to estimate the Rashba spin-orbit coupling (SOC) in large semiconductor nanowires. We specifically investigate GaAs- and InSb-based devices with different gate configurations to control symmetry and localization of the electron charge density. We explore gate-controlled SOC for wires of different size and doping, and we show that in high carrier density SOC has a non-linear electric field susceptibility, due to large reshaping of the quantum states. We analyze recent experiments with InSb nanowires in light of our calculations. Good agreement is found with S…
We perform a numerical study on the spin-resolved transport in a quantum wire (QW) under the modulation of both Rashba spin-orbit coupling (SOC) and a perpendicular magnetic field (MF) by adopting the developed Usuki transfer-matrix method in combination with the Landauer-Buttiker formalism. Wide spin filtering energy windows can be achieved in this system for a spin-unpolarized injection. In addition, both the width of these energy windows and the magnitude of the spin conductance within these energy widows can be tuned by varying the Rashba SOC strength, which can be apprehended by analyzing…
We consider exactly solvable manipulation of spin-qubits confined in a moving harmonic trap and in the presence of the time dependent Rashba interaction. Non-adiabatic Anandan phase for cyclic time evolution is compared to the Wilczek-Zee adiabatic counterpart. It is shown that the ratio of these two phases can for a chosen system be any real number. Next we demonstrate the possibility of arbitrary qubit transformation in a ring with spin-orbit interaction. Finally, we present an example of exact analysis of spin-orbit dynamics influenced by the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck coloured noise.
Electric weak links, the term used for those parts of an electrical circuit that provide most of the resistance against the flow of an electrical current, are important elements of many nanodevices. Quantum dots, nanowires and nano-constrictions that bridge two bulk conductors (or superconductors) are examples of such weak links. Here we consider nanostructures where the electronic spin-orbit interaction is strong in the weak link but is unimportant in the bulk conductors, and explore theoretically the role of the spin-orbit active weak link (which we call a "Rashba spin splitter") as a source…
We analyse non-adiabatic non-Abelian holonomic transformations of spin-qubits confined to a linear time dependent harmonic trap with time dependent Rashba interaction. For this system exact results can be derived for spin rotation angle which also enables exact treatment of white gate-noise effects. We concentrate in particular on the reliability of cyclic transformations quantified by fidelity defined by the probability that the qubit after one full cycle remains in the ground-state energy manifold. The formalism allows exact analysis of spin transformations that optimise final fidelity. Vari…
A proposal of electrically controlled spin transistor in helical magnetic field is presented. In the proposed device, the transistor action is driven by the Landau-Zener transitions that lead to a backscattering of spin polarized electrons and switching the transistor into the high-resistance state (off state). The on/off state of the transistor can be controlled by the all-electric means using Rashba spin-orbit coupling that can be tuned by the voltages applied to the side electrodes.
The response of a 2D electron system to a DC measurement electric field has been investigated in the case when the system is driven out of the equilibrium by the magnetic ultra-high frequency field that leads to combined transitions involving the spin-orbit interaction. It has been shown that the method of non-equilibrium statistical operator in conjunction ith the method of canonical transformations allows one to build a theory of linear response of a non-equilibrium 2D electron gas to a weak "measurement" DC electric field. The proposed theory predicts that such perturbation of the electron …
In this paper, a detailed analysis of anisotropic effects on the phonon induced spin relaxation rate in III-V semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) is carried out. We show that the accidental degeneracy due to level crossing between the first and second excited states of opposite electron spin states in both isotropic and anisotropic QDs can be manipulated with the application of externally applied gate potentials. In particular, anisotropic gate potentials enhance the phonon mediated spin-flip rate and reduce the cusp-like structure to lower magnetic fields, in addition to the lower QDs radii in I…
Exchange-coupled singlet-triplet spin qubits in two gate-defined double quantum dots are considered theoretically. Using charge density operators to describe the double-dot orbital states, we calculate the Coulomb couplings between the qubits, and identify optimal bias points for single- and two-qubit operations, as well as convenient idle positions. The same intuitive formulation is used to derive dephasing rates of these qubits due to the fluctuating charge environment, thereby providing the main considerations for a quantum computation architecture that is within current experimental capabi…
Indium arsenide (InAs) nanowires (NWs) are a promising platform to fabricate quantum electronic devices, among others they have strong spin-orbit interaction (SOI). The controlled tuning of the SOI is desired in spin based quantum devices. In this study we investigate the possibility of tuning the SOI by electrostatic field, which is generated by a back gate and two side gates placed on the opposite sides of the NW. The strength of the SOI is analyzed by weak anti-localization effect. We demonstrate that the strength of SOI can be strongly tuned by a factor of 2 with the electric field across …
In this work, we have studied the spin-dependent ballistic transport and anomalous quantum tunnelling in Bilayer Graphene (BLG) hybrid connected to two Rashba-Zeeman (RZ) leads under an external electric biasing. We investigated the transmission and conductance for the proposed system using scattering matrix formalism and Landauer - Buttiker formula considering a double delta-like barrier under a set of experimentally viable parameters. We found that the transmission characteristics are notably different for up and down spin incoming electrons depending upon the strength of magnetization. More…
