A spin-qubit transformation protocol is proposed for an electron in a mesoscopic quantum ring with tunable Rashba interaction controlled by the external electric field. The dynamics of an electron driven around the ring by a series of Landau-Zenner-like transitions between a finite number of local voltage gates is determined analytically. General single-qubit transformations are demonstrated to be feasible in a dynamical basis of localized pseudo-spin states. It is also demonstrated that by the use of suitable protocols based on changes of the Rashba interaction full Bloch sphere can be covered. The challenges of a possible realization of the proposed system in semiconductor heterostructures are discussed.
An exact solution is presented for the time-dependent wavefunction of a Kramers doublet which propagates around a quantum ring with tuneable Rashba spin-orbit interaction. By propagating in segments it is shown that Kramers-doublet qubits may be defined for which transformations on the Bloch sphere may be performed for an integral number of revolutions around the ring. The conditions for full coverage of the Bloch sphere are determined and explained in terms of sequential qubit rotations due to electron motion along the segments, with change of rotation axes between segments due to adiabatic c…
Spin-1/2 electrons are scattered through one or two diamond-like loops, made of quantum dots connected by one-dimensional wires, and subject to both an Aharonov-Bohm flux and (Rashba and Dresselhaus) spin-orbit interactions. With some symmetry between the two branches of each diamond, and with appropriate tuning of the electric and magnetic fields (or of the diamond shapes) this device completely blocks electrons with one polarization, and allows only electrons with the opposite polarization to be transmitted. The directions of these polarizations are tunable by these fields, and do not depend…

We study the lifetime of topological qubits based on Majorana bound states hosted in a one-dimensional Rashba nanowire (NW) with proximity-induced superconductivity and non-uniform chemical potential needed for manipulation and read-out. If nearby gates tune the chemical potential locally so that part of the NW is in the trivial phase, Andreev bound states (ABSs) can emerge which are localized at the interface between topological and trivial phases with energies significantly less than the gap. The emergence of such subgap states strongly decreases the Majorana qubit lifetime at finite tempera…

We demonstrate the appearance of zero-energy bound states satisfying the $\mathbb{Z}_4$ parafermionic algebra in interacting quantum wires with Rashba spin-orbit coupling and proximity-induced superconductivity. The fourfold degeneracy of these states is protected by time-reversal symmetry and fermion-parity conservation, and leads to an $8 π$ periodicity of the Josephson current due to the tunneling of fractionalized excitations with charge $e/2$. Even in the presence of perturbations, we propose that this periodicity will remain visible in driven, current-biased Shapiro step measurements on …
The spin-sensitive charge oscillation, controlled by an external magnetic field, was recently proposed as a mechanism of transformations of qubits, defined as two-electron spin-charge Wannier molecules in a square quantum dot. The paper expands this idea by including the effects of Rashba type spin-orbit coupling. The problem is studied theoretically by mapping the system to an analytic effective Hamiltonian for 8 low energy states, comprising singlet and triplet on each dot diagonal. The validity of the mapping is confirmed by comparing the energy and spin of full and mapped system, and also …
The electric dipole spin resonance (EDSR) combining strong spin-orbit coupling (SOC) and electric-dipole transitions facilitates fast spin control in a scalable way, which is the critical aspect of the rapid progress made recently in germanium (Ge) hole-spin qubits. However, a puzzle is raised because centrosymmetric Ge lacks the Dresselhaus SOC, a key element in the initial proposal of the hole-based EDSR. Here, we demonstrate that the recently uncovered finite k-linear Rashba SOC of 2D holes offers fast hole spin control via EDSR with Rabi frequencies in excellent agreement with experimental…
We solve analytically the energy eigenvalue problem of narrow semiconductor quantum rings with a general spin-orbit term that includes as a special case the Rashba and Dresselhaus interactions acting simultaneously. The eigenstates and eigenenergies of the system are found for arbitrary values of the spin-orbit coupling constants without making use of approximations. The general eigenstates are expressed as products of a scalar Mathieu function and a spinor factor which is periodic or pseudo-periodic on the ring. Our general solution reduces to the previously found solutions for particular com…
We theoretically analyze the Andreev bound states and their coupling to external radiation in superconductor-nanowire-superconductor Josephson junctions. We provide an effective Hamiltonian for the junction projected onto the Andreev level subspace and incorporating the effects of nanowire multichannel structure, Rashba spin-orbit coupling, and Zeeman field. Based on this effective model, we investigate the dependence of the Andreev levels and the matrix elements of the current operator on system parameters such as chemical potential, nanowire dimensions, and normal transmission. We show that …
We consider a two-dimensional electron gas with Rashba's spin-orbit interaction and two in-plane potentials superimposed along directions perpendicular to each other. The first of these potentials is assumed to be a general periodic potential while the second one is totally arbitrary. A general form for Bloch's amplitude is found and an eigen-value problem for the band structure of the system is derived. We apply the general result to the two particular cases in which either the second potential represents a harmonic in-plane confinement or it is zero. We find that for a harmonic confinement r…
We propose a theoretical scheme to realize arbitrary single-qubit gates through two simple device units: one-dimensional semiconductor wires with Dresselhaus spin-orbit coupling (SOC) and Rashba SOC, separately. Qubit information coded by the electron spin can be accurately manipulated by the SOC when crossing the semiconductor wire. The different manipulative behaviors in Dresselhaus and Rashba wires enable us to make the diverse quantum logic gates. Furthermore, by connecting the Dresselhaus and Rashba units in series, we obtain a universal set of single qubit gates: Hadamard, phase, and $π/…
The Harper-Hofstadter problem for two-dimensional electron gas with Rashba spin-orbit coupling subject to periodic potential and perpendicular magnetic field is studied analytically and numerically. The butterfly-like energy spectrum, spinor wave functions as well as the spin density and average spin polarization are calculated for actual parameters of semiconductor structure. Our calculations show that in two-dimensional electron gas subject to periodic potential and uniform magnetic field the effects of energy spectrum splitting caused by large spin-orbit Rashba coupling can be observed expe…
We investigate the properties of persistent charge current driven by magnetic flux in a quasi-periodic mesoscopic Fibonacci ring with Rashba and Dresselhaus spin-orbit interactions. Within a tight-binding framework we work out individual state currents together with net current based on second-quantized approach. A significant enhancement of current is observed in presence of spin-orbit coupling and sometimes it becomes orders of magnitude higher compared to the spin-orbit interaction free Fibonacci ring. We also establish a scaling relation of persistent current with ring size, associated wit…
We present two theoretical schemes for spin filters in one-dimensional semiconductor quantum wires with spatially modulated Rashba spin-orbit coupling (SOC) as well as weak magnetic potential. For case I, the SOC is periodic and the weak magnetic potential is applied uniformly along the wire. Full spin polarizations with opposite signs are obtained within two separated energy intervals. For case II, the weak magnetic potential is periodic while the SOC is uniform. An ideal negative/positive switching effect for spin polarization is realized by tuning the strength of SOC. The roles of SOC, magn…
In this work we study the effects of a longitudinal periodic potential on a parabolic quantum wire defined in a two-dimensional electron gas with Rashba spin-orbit interaction. For an infinite wire superlattice we find, by direct diagonalization, that the energy gaps are shifted away from the usual Bragg planes due to the Rashba spin-orbit interaction. Interestingly, our results show that the location of the band gaps in energy can be controlled via the strength of the Rashba spin-orbit interaction. We have also calculated the charge conductance through a periodic potential of a finite length …
An ideal switching effect is discovered in a semiconductor nanowire with a spatially-periodic Rashba structure. Bistable `ON' and `OFF' states can be realized by tuning the gate voltage applied on the Rashba regions. The energy range and position of `OFF' states can be manipulated effectively by varying the strength of the spin-orbit coupling (SOC) and the unit length of the periodic structure, respectively. The switching effect of the nanowire is found to be tolerant of small random fluctuations of SOC strength in the periodic structure. This ideal switching effect might be applicable in futu…
We analyze the behaviour of a system of particles living on a periodic crystal in the presence of a magnetic field B. This can be done by involving a periodic potential U(x) and the Rashba interaction of coupling constant k_{so}. By resorting the corresponding spectrum, we explicitly determine the band structures and the Bloch spinors. These allow us to discuss the system symmetries in terms of the polarizations where they are shown to be broken. The dynamical spin will be studied by calculating different quantities. In the limits: k_{so} and U(x)=0, we analyze again the system by deriving dif…
We propose a spin-orbit qubit in a nanowire quantum dot on the surface of a multiferroic insulator with a cycloidal spiral magnetic order. The spiral exchange field from the multiferroic insulator causes an inhomogeneous Zeeman-like interaction on the electron spin in the quantum dot, producing a spin-orbit qubit. The absence of an external magnetic field benefits the integration of such spin-orbit qubit into high-quality superconducting resonators. By exploiting the Rashba spin-orbit coupling in the quantum dot via a gate voltage, one can obtain an effective spin-photon coupling with an effic…
We prove that curvature effects in low-dimensional nanomaterials can promote the generation of topological states of matter by considering the paradigmatic example of quantum wires with Rashba spin-orbit coupling, which are periodically corrugated at the nanometer scale. The effect of the periodic curvature generally results in the appearance of insulating phases with a corresponding novel butterfly spectrum characterized by the formation of fine measure complex regions of forbidden energies. When the Fermi energy lies in the gaps, the system displays localized end states protected by topology…
Flopping mode qubits in double quantum dots (DQDs) allow for coherent spin-photon hybridization and fast qubit gates when coupled to either an alternating external or a quantized cavity electric field. To achieve this, however, electronic systems rely on synthetic spin-orbit interaction (SOI) by means of a magnetic field gradient as a coupling mechanism. Here we theoretically show that this challenging experimental setup can be avoided in heavy-hole (HH) systems in germanium (Ge) by utilizing the sizeable cubic Rashba SOI. We argue that the resulting natural flopping mode qubit possesses highl…
The pseudospin of heavy-holes (HHs) confined in a semiconductor quantum dot (QD) represents a promising candidate for a fast and robust qubit. While hole spin manipulation by a classical electric field utilizing the Dresselhaus spin-orbit interaction (SOI) has been demonstrated, our work explores cavity-based qubit manipulation and coupling schemes for inversion-symmetric crystals forming a planar HH QD. Choosing the exemplary material Germanium (Ge), we derive an effective cavity-mediated ground state spin coupling that harnesses the cubic Rashba SOI. In addition, we propose an optimal set of…
We consider periodically-driven arrays of weakly coupled wires with conduction and valence bands of Rashba type and study the resulting Floquet states. This non-equilibrium system can be tuned into non-trivial phases such as of topological insulators, Weyl semimetals, and dispersionless zero-energy edge mode regimes. In the presence of strong electron-electron interactions, we generalize these regimes to the fractional case, where elementary excitations have fractional charges $e/m$ with $m$ being an odd integer.
We present a scalable hybrid architecture for the 2D surface code combining superconducting resonators and hole-spin qubits in nanowires with tunable direct Rashba spin-orbit coupling. The back-bone of this architecture is a square lattice of capacitively coupled coplanar waveguide resonators each of which hosts a nanowire hole-spin qubit. Both the frequency of the qubits and their coupling to the microwave field are tunable by a static electric field applied via the resonator center pin. In the dispersive regime, an entangling two-qubit gate can be realized via a third order process, whereby …
We study an atomic chain in the presence of modulated charge potential and modulated Rashba spin-orbit coupling (RSOC) of equal period. We show that for commensurate periodicities $λ=4 n$ with integer $n$, the three-dimensional synthetic space obtained by sliding the two phases of the charge potential and RSOC features a topological nodal line semimetal protected by an antiunitary particle-hole symmetry. The location and shape of the nodal lines strongly depend on the relative amplitude between the charge potential and RSOC.
In a quantum ring connected with two external leads the spin properties of an incoming electron are modified by the spin-orbit interaction resulting in a transformation of the qubit state carried by the spin. The ring acts as a one qubit spintronic quantum gate whose properties can be varied by tuning the Rashba parameter of the spin-orbit interaction, by changing the relative position of the junctions, as well as by the size of the ring. We show that a large class of unitary transformations can be attained with already one ring -- or a few rings in series -- including the important cases of t…
The design of scalable quantum computers will benefit from predictive models for qubit performance that consider the design and layout of the qubit devices. This approach, has recently been adopted for superconducting qubits, but has received little attention for spin qubits in semiconductors. Here, we employ models for both the device and the quantum mechanical states in the valence band to theoretically investigate the properties of hole spin qubits in laterally gated quantum dots in group-IV materials, which have received significant recent attention. We find that device design impacts qubi…
We developed the theory of electronic properties of semiconductor quantum rings with the Rashba spin-orbit interaction irradiated by an off-resonant high-frequency electromagnetic field (dressing field). Within the Floquet theory of periodically driven quantum systems, it is demonstrated that the dressing field drastically modifies all electronic characteristics of the rings, including spin-orbit coupling, effective electron mass and optical response. Particularly, the present effect paves the way to controlling the spin polarization of electrons with light in prospective ring-shaped spintroni…
We considered various types of potential noise in gates controlling non-adiabatic holonomic transformations of spin-qubits in one and two dimensional systems with the Rashba interaction. It is shown how exact results can be derived for deviations of spin rotation angle and fidelity of the qubit transformation after a completed transformation. Errors in initial values of gate potentials and time-dependent drivings are considered and exact results for white gate noise are derived and analysed in detail. It is demonstrated how the drivings can be tuned to optimise the final fidelity of the transf…
Spin-dependent electron transport in a periodically stubbed quantum wire in the presence of Rashba spin-orbit interaction (SOI) is studied via the nonequilibrium Green's function method combined with the Landauer-Buttiker formalism. The coexistence of spin filtering, charge and spin switching are found in the considered system. The mechanism of these transport properties is revealed by analyzing the total charge density and spin-polarized density distributions in the stubbed quantum wire. Furthermore, periodic spin-density islands with high polarization are also found inside the stubs, owing t…
We study a periodically driven nanowire with Rashba-like conduction and valence bands in the presence of a magnetic field. We identify topological regimes in which the system hosts zero-energy Majorana fermions. We further investigate the effect of strong electron-electron interactions that give rise to parafermion zero energy modes hosted at the nanowire ends. The first setup we consider allows for topological phases by applying only static magnetic fields without the need of superconductivity. The second setup involves both superconductivity and time-dependent magnetic fields and allows one …
We theoretically investigate the dynamics of a spin-qubit periodically driven in both longitudinal and transverse directions by two classical fields respectively a radio-frequency (RF) and a microwave (MW) field operating at phase difference $ϕ$. The qubit is simultaneously locally subject to a linearly polarized magnetic field which changes its sign at a degeneracy point in the longitudinal direction and remains constant in the transverse direction. We superimpose the RF and MW signals respectively to the longitudinal and transverse components of the magnetic field. The proposed model may be …
We present a detailed analysis of the spin-flip excitations induced by a periodic time-dependent electric field in the Rashba prototype Au(111) noble metal surface. Our calculations incorporate the full spinor structure of the spin-polarized surface states and employ a Wannier-based scheme for the spin-flip matrix elements. We find that the spin-flip excitations associated with the surface states exhibit an important angular modulation which is completely absent in the standard Rashba model \cite{rashba}. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the maximum of the calculated spin-flip absorption rate …
We propose an all-electrical nanoscopic structure where {\em pure} spin current is induced in the transverse voltage probes attached to {\em quantum-coherent} one-dimensional ring when conventional unpolarized charge current is injected through its longitudinal leads. Tuning of the Rashba spin-orbit coupling in semiconductor heterostructure hosting the ring generates quasi-periodic oscillations of the predicted spin Hall current due to {\em spin-sensitive quantum-interference effects} caused by the difference in Aharonov-Casher phase acquired by opposite spins states traveling clockwise and co…
We analyze the dynamics of the helical edge modes of a quantum spin Hall state in the presence of a spatially non-uniform Rashba spin-orbit (SO) interaction. A randomly fluctuating Rashba SO coupling is found to open a scattering channel which causes localization of the edge modes for a weakly screened electron-electron (e-e) interaction. A periodic modulation of the SO coupling, with a wave number commensurate with the Fermi momentum, makes the edge insulating already at intermediate strengths of the e-e interaction. We discuss implications for experiments on edge state transport in a HgTe qu…
Using four-terminal Landauer-Büttiker formalism and Green's function technique, in this present paper, we calculate numerically spin Hall conductance (SHC) and longitudinal conductance of a finite size kagome lattice with Rashba spin-orbit (SO) interaction both in presence and absence of external magnetic flux in clean limit. In the absence of magnetic flux, we observe that depending on the Fermi surface topology of the system SHC changes its sign at different values of Fermi energy, along with the band center. Unlike the infinite system (where SHC is a universal constant $\pm \frac{e}{8 π}$),…
We have numerically solved the Hamiltonian of an electron in a semiconductor double ring subjected to the magnetic flux and Rashba spin-orbit interaction. It is found that the Aharonov-Bohm energy spectrum reveals multi-zigzag periodic structures. The investigations of spin-dependent electron dynamics via Rabi oscillations in two-level and three-level systems demonstrate the possibility of manipulating quantum states. Our results show that the optimal control of photon-assisted inter-ring transitions can be achieved by employing cascade-type and $Λ$-type transition mechanisms. Under chirped pu…
The gate-controlled electron spin interference was observed in nanolithographically defined square loop (SL) arrays fabricated using In$_{0.52}$Al$_{0.48}$As/In$_{0.53}$Ga$_{0.47}$As/In$_{0.52}$Al$_{0.48}$As quantum wells. In this experiment, we demonstrate electron spin precession in quasi-one-dimensional channels that is caused by the Rashba effect. It turned out that the spin precession angle $θ$ was gate-controllable by more than 0.75$π$ for a sample with $L=1.5μ$m, where $L$ is the side length of the SL. Large controllability of $θ$ by the applied gate voltage as such is a necessary requi…
In this article, the modified Kane-Mele Hamiltonian is derived for graphene with wedge disclination and spin orbit couplings (intrinsic and Rashba). The wedge disclination changes the flat lattice into the conical lattice and hence modifies the spin orbit couplings. The Hamiltonian is exactly solved for the intrinsic spin orbit interaction and perturbatively for the Rashba spin orbit interaction. It is shown that there exists the Kramer's degenerate midgap localized spin separated fluxon states around the defect. These zero energy spin separated states occur at the external magnetic flux value…
We study the quantum mechanical states of electrons situated on a cylindrical surface of finite axial length to model a semiconductor core-shell nanowire. We calculate the conductance in the presence of a longitudinal magnetic field by weakly coupling the cylinder to semi-infinite leads. Spin effects are accounted for through Zeeman coupling and Rashba spin-orbit interaction (SOI). Emphasis is on manifestations of flux-periodic (FP) oscillations and we show how factors such as impurities, contact geometry and spin affect them. Oscillations survive and remain periodic in the presence of impurit…
We study ballistic transport of spin-polarized electrons through quantum wires in which the strength of the Rashba spin-orbit interaction (SOI) is spatially modulated. Subband mixing, due to SOI, between the two lowest subbands is taken into account. Simplified approximate expressions for the transmission are obtained for electron energies close to the bottom of the first subband and near the value for which anticrossing of the two lowest subbands occurs. In structures with periodically varied SOI strength, {\it square-wave} modulation on the spin transmission is found when only one subband is…
We consider exactly solvable manipulation of spin-qubits confined in a moving harmonic trap and in the presence of the time dependent Rashba interaction. Non-adiabatic Anandan phase for cyclic time evolution is compared to the Wilczek-Zee adiabatic counterpart. It is shown that the ratio of these two phases can for a chosen system be any real number. Next we demonstrate the possibility of arbitrary qubit transformation in a ring with spin-orbit interaction. Finally, we present an example of exact analysis of spin-orbit dynamics influenced by the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck coloured noise.
We predict the possibility to generate a finite stationary spin current by applying an unbiased ac driving to a quasi-one-dimensional asymmetric periodic structure with Rashba spin-orbit interaction and strong dissipation. We show that under a finite coupling strength between the orbital degrees of freedom the electron dynamics at low temperatures exhibits a pure spin ratchet behavior, {\it i.e.} a finite spin current and the absence of charge transport in spatially asymmetric structures. It is also found that the equilibrium spin currents are not destroyed by the presence of strong dissipatio…
The spin degree of freedom is crucial for both understanding and exploiting the particular properties of the edges of two-dimensional topological insulators. In the absence of superconductivity and magnetism, Rashba coupling is the most relevant single particle perturbation in this system. Since Rashba coupling does not break time reversal symmetry, its influence on transport properties is only visible if processes that do not conserve the single particle energy are included. Paradigmatic examples of such processes are electron-electron interactions and time dependent external drivings. We ana…
We analyse non-adiabatic non-Abelian holonomic transformations of spin-qubits confined to a linear time dependent harmonic trap with time dependent Rashba interaction. For this system exact results can be derived for spin rotation angle which also enables exact treatment of white gate-noise effects. We concentrate in particular on the reliability of cyclic transformations quantified by fidelity defined by the probability that the qubit after one full cycle remains in the ground-state energy manifold. The formalism allows exact analysis of spin transformations that optimise final fidelity. Vari…
The spin precession in a cylindrical semiconductor nanowire due to Rashba spin-orbit coupling has been investigated theoretically using an InAs nanowire containing a surface two-dimensional electron gas as a model. The eigenstates, energy-momentum dispersion, and the energy-magnetic field dispersion relation are determined by solving the Schrödinger equation in a cylindrical symmetry The combination of states with the same total angular momentum but opposite spin orientation results in a periodic modulation of the axial spin component along the axis of the wire. Spin-precession about the wires…
It is of considerable technological importance to achieve an electrical control of magnetism of sufficient magnitude. To overcome the in-plane shape anisotropy, needed is the electrical control of a perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA). It is known, within a free electron model, the Rashba spin-orbit coupling provides such a control. Surprisingly, this same Rashba PMA is enhanced by two to three orders of magnitude when a periodic potential is added. Usually spin Berry phase physics reflects time dependent magnetic fields. Here it is shown, within a time independent model, such physics aris…
We investigate the influence of Rashba spin-orbit coupling in a parabolic nanowire modulated by longitudinal periodic potential. The modulation potential can be obtained from realistically grown supperlattices (SLs). Our study shows that the Rashba spin-orbit interaction induces the level crossing point in the parabolic nanowire SLs. We estimate large anticrossing width (approximately 117 $μeV$) between singlet-triplet states. We study the phonon and electromagnetic field mediated spin transition rates in the parabolic nanowire SLs. We report that the phonon mediated spin transition rate is se…
The aim of presented research is to design a nanodevice based on a gate-defined quantum dot within a MoS$_2$ monolayer in which we confine a single electron. By applying control voltages to the device gates we modulate the confinement potential and force intervalley transitions. The present Rashba spin-orbit coupling additionally allows for spin operations. Moreover, both effects enable the spin-valley SWAP. The device structure is modeled realistically, taking into account feasible dot-forming potential and electric field that controls the Rasha coupling. Therefore, by performing reliable num…
We propose an all-electrically controlled nanodevice - a gated semiconductor nanowire - capable of generating a coherent state of a single electron trapped in a harmonic oscillator or superposition of such coherent states - the Schrödinger cat state. In the proposed scheme, electron in the ground state of the harmonic potential is driven by resonantly oscillating Rashba spin-orbit coupling. This allows for the creation of the Schrödinger cat state with superposition amplitudes depending on the initial electron spin state. Such a method can be used for initialization of a single spin qubit defi…
Recent studies have shown that linear electron optics can be used to generate entangled two-particle states from nonentangled ones if additional measurements of charge or parity are performed. We have investigated such nondeterministic entanglement production in electronic versions of the Mach-Zehnder interferometer, where spin-dependent interference occurs due to the presence of electric-field tunable Rashba spin splitting. Adjustment of the spin-precession length turns out to switch the entangler on and off, as well as control the detailed form of entangled output states.
We develop a theoretical scheme to perform a read-out of the properties of a quasi-periodic system by coupling it to one or two qubits. We show that the decoherence dynamics of a single qubit coupled via a pure dephasing type term to a 1D quasi-periodic system with a potential given by the André-Aubry-Harper (AAH) model and its generalized versions (GAAH model) is sensitive to the nature of the single particle eigenstates (SPEs). More specifically, we can use the non-markovianity of the qubit dynamics as quantified by the backflow of information to clearly distinguish the localized, delocalize…
When the level separation of a qubit is modulated periodically across an avoided crossing, tunneling to the excited state - and consequently Landau-Zener-Stückelberg interference - can occur. The types of modulation studied so far correspond to a continuous change of the level separation. Here we study periodic latching modulation, in which the level separation is switched abruptly between two values and is kept constant otherwise. In this case, the conventional approach based on the asymptotic Landau-Zener (LZ) formula for transition probabilities is not applicable. We develop a novel adiabat…
