We propose using ultracold fermionic atoms trapped in a periodically shaken optical lattice as a quantum simulator of the t-J Hamiltonian, which describes the dynamics in doped antiferromagnets and is thought to be relevant to the problem of high-temperature superconductivity in the cuprates. We show analytically that the effective Hamiltonian describing this system for off-resonant driving is the t-J model with additional pair hopping terms, whose parameters can all be controlled by the drive. We then demonstrate numerically using tensor network methods for a 1D lattice that a slow modification of the driving strength allows near-adiabatic transfer of the system from the ground state of the underlying Hubbard model to the ground state of the effective t-J Hamiltonian. Finally, we report exact diagonalization calculations illustrating the control achievable on the dynamics of spin-singlet pairs in 2D lattices utilising this technique with current cold-atom quantum-simulation technology. These results open new routes to explore the interplay between density and spin in strongly-correlated fermionic systems through their out-of-equilibrium dynamics.
Using a similarity Hamiltonian renormalization procedure, we determine an effective spin-1/2 representation of the Bose-Hubbard model at half-integer filling and at a finite on-site interaction energy U. By means of bosonization, we are able to recast the effective Hamiltonian as that of a spin-1/2 XXZ magnetic chain with pertinently renormalized coupling and anisotropy parameters. We use this mapping to provide analytical estimates of the correlation functions of the Bose-Hubbard model. We then compare such results with those based on DMRG numerical simulations of the Bose-Hubbard model for v…
We obtain exact numerical solutions of the degenerate Hubbard model in the limit of large dimensions (or large lattice connectivity). Successive Mott-Hubbard metal insulator transitions at integer fillings occur at intermediate values of the interaction and low enough temperature in the paramagnetic phase. The results are relevant for transition metal oxides with partially filled narrow degenerate bands.
We investigate the infinite-dimensional two-orbital Hubbard model at arbitrary band fillings. By means of the self-energy functional approach, we discuss the stability of the metallic state in the systems with same and different bandwidths. It is found that the Mott insulating phases are realized at commensurate band fillings. Furthermore, it is clarified that the orbital selective Mott phase with one orbital localized and the other itinerant is stabilized even at fractional band fillings in the system with different bandwidths.
In PRB 68, 153101 (2003), Guoping Zhang presented density-matrix renormalization group (DMRG) results which contradict my DMRG calculations and Hirsch's quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) simulations for the charge-density-wave (CDW) phase boundary in the one-dimensional extended Hubbard model at half filling. In this Comment I show that Zhang's results are inaccurate and that his criticism of my work is groundless.
We complete the proof that the two-dimensional Hubbard model at half-filling is not a Fermi liquid in the mathematically precise sense of Salmhofer, by establishing a lower bound on a second derivative in momentum of the first non-trivial self-energy graph.
We solve analytically the $N\times N$ square lattice Hubbard model for even $N$ at half filling and weak coupling by a new approach. The exact ground state wave function provides an intriguing and appealing picture of the antiferromagnetic order. Like at strong coupling, the ground state has total momentum $K_{tot}=(0,0)$ and transforms as an $s$ wave for even $N/2$ and as a $d$ wave otherwise.
In the present paper metal-insulator transition is studied in a generalized Hubbard model with correlated hopping at half-filling and zero temperature. Single-particle Green function and energy spectrum of electron system are calculated. The expressions for energy gap width and the concentration of polar states (holes or doublons) are obtained. The conditions for metallic and insulating states are found.
We have analyzed the antiferromagnetic (J>0) Kondo-Hubbard lattice with the band at half-filling by means of a perturbative approach in the strong coupling limit, the small parameter is an arbitrary tight-binding band. The results are valid for any band shape and any dimension. We have obtained the energies of elementary charge and spin excitations as well as the magnetic correlations in order to elucidate the magnetic and charge behavior of the Kondo lattice at half-filling. Finally, we have briefly analyzed the ferromagnetic case (J<0), which is shown to be equivalent to an effective antifer…
We present an efficient Monte Carlo method to study the properties of the infinitely repulsive Hubbard model with few holes at finite nonzero temperatures. Using this method, magnetic and specific heat results are presented for a 10 by 10 lattice with two holes. Our results show that the magnetization increases with decreasing temperature for such a finite system.
The diagram technique for the one-band Hubbard model is formulated for the case of moderate to strong Hubbard repulsion. The expansion in powers of the hopping constant is expressed in terms of site cumulants of electron creation and annihilation operators. For Green's function an equation of the Larkin type is derived and solved in a one-loop approximation for the case of two dimensions and nearest-neighbor hopping. With decreasing the electron concentration in addition to the four bands observed at half-filling a narrow band arises near the Fermi level. The dispersion of the new band, its ba…
We generalize the linear discrete dimensional scaling approach for the repulsive Hubbard model to obtain a nonlinear scaling relation that yields accurate approximations to the ground-state energy in both two and three dimensions, as judged by comparison to auxiliary-field quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) data. Predictions are made for the per-site ground-state energies in two and three dimensions for $n$ (filling factor) and $U$ (Coulomb interaction) values for which QMC data are currently unavailable.
We investigate in the Hartree Fock approximation the temperature and filling dependence of the superconducting $π$-phase for the Penson-Kolb-Hubbard model. Due to the presence of the pair-hopping term, the phase survives for repulsive values of the on-site Coulomb interaction, exhibiting an interesting filling and temperature dependence. The structure of the self-consistent equations peculiar to the $π$-phase of the model allows to explicitly solve them for the chemical potential. The phase diagrams are shown and discussed in dimension 2 and 3. We also show that, when a next-nearest neighbours…
By using a state of art tensor network state method, we study the ground-state phase diagram of an extended Bose-Hubbard model on the square lattice with frustrated next-nearest neighboring tunneling. In the hardcore limit, tunneling frustration stabilizes a peculiar half supersolid (HSS) phase with one sublattice being superfluid and the other sublattice being Mott Insulator away from half filling. In the softcore case, the model shows very rich phase diagrams above half filling, including three different types of supersolid phases depending on the interaction parameters. The considered model…
We found that when the spinless model is off the half-filling regime ($μ\neq V$), the Helmholtz free energy (HFE) can be written as two $β$-expansions: one expansion comes from the half-filling configuration and another one that depends on the parameter $x = μ- V$. We show numerically that the chemical potential as a function of temperature satisfies a relation similar to the one derived from the particle-hole symmetry of the fermionic spinless model. We extend the $β$-expansion of the HFE of the one-dimensional fermionic spinless Hubbard model up to order $β^8$.
We investigate the Kagome lattice Hubbard model at half-filling by variational Monte-Carlo with testing the U(1)-Dirac spin liquid, uniform and valence bond crystal states. Even for the large-$U$ case the U(1) Dirac state, being the optimal state in the Heisenberg model, cannot be recovered. While the finite $U$ Hubbard model allows the introduction of vacancies in a different manner compared to the $t-J$ model, the physics appears to have many similarities. In particular a valence bond crystal is formed in the intermediate-$U$ regime. We observe an impact of the formation of this valence bond…
We study with exact diagonalization the zero temperature properties of the quarter-filled extended Hubbard model on a square lattice. We find that increasing the ratio of the intersite Coulomb repulsion, $V$, to the band width drives the system from a metal to a charge ordered insulator. The evolution of the optical conductivity spectrum with increasing $V$ is compared to the observed optical conductivity of several layered molecular crystals with the theta and beta'' crystal structures.
We calculate the photoemission spectral function of the one-dimensional Hubbard model away from half filling using the dynamical density matrix renormalization group method. An approach for calculating momentum-dependent quantities in finite open chains is presented. Comparison with exact Bethe Ansatz results demonstrates the unprecedented accuracy of our method. Our results show that the photoemission spectrum of the quasi-one-dimensional conductor TTF-TCNQ provides evidence for spin-charge separation on the scale of the conduction band width.
We investigate the phase diagram of the three-dimensional Hubbard model at half filling using quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) simulations. The antiferromagnetic Neel temperature T_N is determined from the specific heat maximum in combination with finite-size scaling of the magnetic structure factor. Our results interpolate smoothly between the asymptotic solutions for weak and strong coupling, respectively, in contrast to previous QMC simulations. The location of the metal-insulator transition in the paramagnetic phase above T_N is determined using the electronic compressibility as criterion.
We propose a novel parametrization of the four-point vertex function in the one-loop one-particle irreducible renormalization group (RG) scheme for fermions. It is based on a decomposition of the effective two-fermion interaction into fermion bilinears that interact via exchange bosons. Besides being more efficient than previous N-patch schemes, this parametrization also reduces the ambiguity of introducing boson fields. We apply this parametrization to the two-dimensional (t,t')-Hubbard model using a novel $Ω$-frequency regularization.
We study the Hubbard-Holstein model, which includes both the electron-electron and electron-phonon interactions characterized by $U$ and $g$, respectively, employing the dynamical mean-field theory combined with Wilson's numerical renormalization group technique. A zero temperature phase diagram of metal-insulator and insulator-insulator transitions at half-filling is mapped out which exhibits the interplay between $U$ and $g$. As $U$ ($g$) is increased, a metal to Mott-Hubbard insulator (bipolaron insulator) transition occurs, and the two insulating states are distinct and can not be adiabati…
In the present paper we study chemical potential of a generalized Hubbard model with correlated hopping at half-filling using a generalized mean-field approximation. For the special case of the model the approach reproduces the exact results: metal-insulator transition, ground state energy. Chemical potential of generelized Hubbard model with correlated hoppig as function of hopping integrals at zero temperature is found. It is shown that chemical potential of the model is temperature-dependent. The dependences of chemical potential of a generalized Hubbard model with correlated hopping on the…
We investigate Knight shift and nuclear spin relaxation rate in a charge ordered state of the one-dimensional extended Hubbard model with a quarter filled band by using RPA around the mean-field solution. It is shown that both quantities show splitting below the critical temperature of the charge order, as is experimentally observed. The relationship between the mount of the splitting in the both quantities and the charge disproportionation rate is discussed.
We have investigated the half-filling two-orbital Hubbard model on a triangular lattice by means of the dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT). The densities of states and optical conductivity clearly show the occurence of metal-insulating transition (MIT) at U$_{c}$, U$_{c}$=18.2, 16.8, 6.12 and 5.85 for J=0, 0.01U, U/4 and U/3, respectively. The distinct continuities of double occupation of electrons, local square moments and local susceptibility of the charge, the spin and the orbital at J > 0 suggest that the MIT is the first-order; however at J=0, the MIT is the second-order in the half-filli…
We investigate filling dependence of the zigzag Hubbard ladder, using density matrix renormalization group method. We illustrate the chemical-potential vs. electron-density and spin gap vs. electron density curves, which reflect characteristic properties of the electron state. On the basis of the obtained phase diagram, we discuss the connection to a novel quasi-one-dimensional superconductor Pr$_2$Ba$_4$Cu$_7$O$_{15-δ}$.
Anticipating realization of interacting fermions in an optical lattice with a large gauge field, we consider phase transitions and loop currents in a two-dimensional S=1/2 fermionic-Hubbard model with $π$/2-staggered flux at half filling. We use a variational Monte Carlo method, which is reliable even for strong correlations. As a trial wave function, a coexistent state of antifferomagnetic and staggered-flux orders is studied. In a strongly correlated regime, the ground state becomes an insulating coexistent state with loop currents. By comparing fermions with bosons, we discuss an important …
We propose a new combined approach of the exact diagonalization, the renormalization group and the Bethe ansatz for precise estimates of the charge gap $Δ$ in the one-dimensional extended Hubbard model with the onsite and the nearest-neighbor interactions $U$ and $V$ at quarter filling. This approach enables us to obtain the absolute value of $Δ$ including the prefactor without ambiguity even in the critical regime of the metal-insulator transition (MIT) where $Δ$ is exponentially small, beyond usual renormalization group methods and/or finite size scaling approaches. The detailed results of $…
The ferromagnetism of the checkerboard lattice Hubbard model at quarter filling is one of the few exact ferromagnetic ground states known in the family of Hubbard models. When the nearest neighbor hopping, t1, is negligible compared with the second neighbor one, t2, the system reduces to a collection of Hubbard chains. We find that the 1D character is surprisingly robust as long as t1 < t2. This phenomenon of dimensional reduction due to the geometrical frustration leads to peculiar magnetic orders with 1D character for intermediate U and is responsible for odd-frequency superconducting states…
We prove analyticity theorems in the coupling constant for the Hubbard model at half-filling. The model in a single renormalization group slice of index $i$ is proved to be analytic in $λ$ for $|λ| \le c/i$ for some constant $c$, and the skeleton part of the model at temperature $T$ (the sum of all graphs without two point insertions) is proved to be analytic in $λ$ for $|λ| \le c/|\log T|^{2}$. These theorems are necessary steps towards proving that the Hubbard model at half-filling is {\it not} a Fermi liquid (in the mathematically precise sense of Salmhofer).
Using the Hubbard chain at quarter filling as a model system, we study the ground state properties of highly doped antiferromagnets. In particular, the Hubbard chain at quarter filling is unstable against 2k_F- and 4k_F-periodic potentials, leading to a large variety of charge and spin ordered ground states. Employing the density matrix renormalization group method, we compare the energy gain of the ground state induced by different periodic potentials. For interacting systems the lowest energy is found for a 2k_F-periodic magnetic field, resulting in a band insulator with spin gap. For strong…
We investigate the phase diagram of the one-dimensional repulsive Hubbard model with mass imbalance. Using DMRG, we show that this model has a "triplet" paired phase (dubbed $π\mathrm{SG}$) at generic fillings, consistent with previous theoretical analysis. We study the topological aspect of $π\mathrm{SG}$ phase, determining long-range string orders and the filling anomaly which refers to the relation among the single particle gap, inversion symmetry, and filling imbalance for open chains. We also find, using DMRG, that at $1/3$ filling, commensurate effects lead to two additional phases: a cr…
In the present paper pressure-temperature phase diagram of a generalized Hubbard model with correlated hopping in a paramagnetic state at half-filling is determined by means of the generalized mean-field approximation in the Green function technique. The constructed phase diagram describes metal-to-insulator transition with increasing temperature, and insulator-to-metal transition under the action of external pressure. The phase diagram can explain paramagnetic region of the phase diagrams of some transition metal compounds. We have found that taking into account correlated hopping allows much…
We investigate the optical conductivity in the Mott insulating phase of the one-dimensional extended Hubbard model with alternating hopping terms (dimerization) at quarter band filling. Optical spectra are calculated for the various parameter regimes using the dynamical density-matrix renormalization group method. The study of limiting cases allows us to explain the various structures found numerically in the optical conductivity of this model. Our calculations show that the dimerization and the nearest-neighbor repulsion determine the main features of the spectrum. The on-site repulsion plays…
The Kitaev-Hubbard model of interacting fermions is defined on the honeycomb lattice and, at strong coupling, interpolates between the Heisenberg model and the Kitaev model. It is basically a Hubbard model with ordinary hopping $t$ and spin-dependent hopping $t'$. We study this model in the weak to intermediate coupling regime, at half-filling, using the Cellular Dynamical Impurity Approximation (CDIA), an approach related to Dynamical Mean Field Theory but based on Potthoff's variational principle. We identify four phases in the $(U,t')$ plane: two semi-metallic phases with different numbers …
Equations for the electron Green's function of the two-dimensional Hubbard model, derived using the strong coupling diagram technique, are self-consistently solved for different electron concentrations $n$ and tight-binding dispersions. Comparison of spectral functions calculated for the ratio of Hubbard repulsion to the nearest neighbor hopping $U/t=8$ with Monte Carlo data shows not only qualitative, but in some cases quantitative agreement in position of maxima. General spectral shapes, their evolution with momentum and filling in the wide range $0.7\lesssim n\leq 1$ are also similar. At ha…
We examine the density-density correlation function in the Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid state for the one-dimensional extended Hubbard model with the on-site Coulomb repulsion $U$ and the intersite repulsion $V$ at quarter filling. By taking into account the effect of the marginally irrelevant umklapp scattering operator by utilizing the renormalization-group technique based on the bosonization method, we obtain the generalized analytical form of the correlation function. We show that, in the proximity to the gapped charge-ordered phase, the correlation function exhibits anomalous crossover betwe…
We investigate the effects of quenched disorder on two chain Hubbard models at half-filling by using bosonization and renormalization group methods. It is found that the sufficiently strong forward scattering due to impurities and the random gauge field, which is generated by impurity backward scattering, destroy the charge gaps as well as the spin gaps. Random backward scattering due to impurities then drives the resulting massless phase to the Anderson localization phase. For intermediate strength of random forward scattering, however, the spin gaps still survive, and only one of the charge …
The photoemission spectrum and the specific heat are studied in the Hubbard model of small clusters including orbital degeneracy. We focus on the degeneracy and valence dependence in the limit of a large Coulomb interaction. For integer valence, it is found that the degeneracy increases the width of the photoemission spectrum and it reduces the contribution from the charge degrees of freedom to the specific heat. A deviation from integer valence reduces the width of the photoemission spectrum.
Nonlinear transport in the one dimensional Hubbard model at half-filling under a finite bias voltage is investigated by the adaptive time-dependent density matrix renormalization group method. For repulsive on-site interaction, dielectric breakdown of the Mott insulating ground state to a current-carrying nonequilibrium steady state is clearly observed when the voltage exceeds the charge gap. It is found that by increasing the voltage further the current-voltage characteristics are scaled only by the charge gap and the scaling curve exhibits almost linear dependence on the voltage whose slope …
We use a novel temperature-flow renormalization group technique to analyze magnetic and superconducting instabilities in the two-dimensional t-t' Hubbard model for particle densities close to the van Hove filling as a function of the next-nearest neighbor hopping t'. In the one-loop flow at the van Hove filling, the characteristic temperature for the flow to strong coupling is suppressed drastically around t'_c approx. -0.33t, suggesting a quantum critical point between d-wave pairing at moderate t'>t'_c and ferromagnetism for t'<t'_c. Upon increasing the particle density in the latter regime …
We study the impact of the fermionic self-energy on one-loop functional renormalization group flows of the two-dimensional $t$-$t'$ Hubbard model, with emphasis on electronic densities away from van Hove filling. In the presence of antiferromagnetic hot spots, antiferromagnetic fluctuations lead to a flattening of the Fermi surface, shift magnetic phase boundaries and significantly enhance critical scales. We trace back this effect to the presence of a magnetic first order transition. For some parameters, the first order character of the latter is reduced by self-energy effects. For reliably d…
We reexamine the ground-state phase diagram of the one-dimensional half-filled Hubbard model with on-site and nearest-neighbor repulsive interactions. We calculate second-order corrections to coupling constants in the g-ology to show that the bond-charge-density-wave (BCDW) phase exists for weak couplings in between the charge density wave (CDW) and spin density wave (SDW) phases. We find that the umklapp scattering of parallel-spin electrons destabilizes the BCDW state and gives rise to a bicritical point where the CDW-BCDW and SDW-BCDW continuous-transition lines merge into the CDW-SDW first…
We study the magnetic properties of the 3d Hubbard model at half-filling in the TPSC formalism, previously developed for the 2d model. We focus on the Néel transition approached from the disordered side and on the paramagnetic phase. We find a very good quantitative agreement with Dynamical Mean-Field results for the isotropic 3d model. Calculations on finite size lattices also provide satisfactory comparisons with Monte Carlo results up to the intermediate coupling regime. We point out a qualitative difference between the isotropic 3d case, and the 2d or anisotropic 3d cases for the double oc…
We study the Holstein-Hubbard model at half filling to explore the ordered phases such as the charge density wave and antiferromagnet. The Coulomb interaction is rewritten in terms of auxiliary fields. By treating the auxiliary fields and phonons as classical, we obtain real space features of the system and transition between the phases from weak to strong coupling. When both interactions are weak, mutual competition between them leads to a metallic phase in an otherwise insulator dominated phase diagram. Spatial correlations induced by thermal fluctuations lead to pseudogap features at interm…
We obtain the phase diagram of the half-filled two-dimensional Hubbard model on a square lattice in the presence of Einstein phonons. We find that the interplay between the instantaneous electron-electron repulsion and electron-phonon interaction leads to new phases. In particular, a d$_{x^2-y^2}$-wave superconducting phase emerges when both anisotropic phonons and repulsive Hubbard interaction are present. For large electron-phonon couplings, charge-density-wave and s-wave superconducting regions also appear in the phase diagram, and the widths of these regions are strongly dependent on the p…
We study the phase diagram of two weakly coupled one-dimensional dipolar boson chains at half-odd-integer fillings. We find that the system contains a rich phase diagram. Four different phases are found. They are the Mott insulators, the single-particle resonant superfluid, the paired superfluid, and the bond- or inter-chain density waves. Moreover, the Mott insulating phase can be further classified according to a hidden string order parameter, which is analogous to the one investigated recently in the one-dimensional boson Mott insulator at integer fillings.
Describing the doped Fullerenes using a generalized Hubbard model, we study the Mott transition for different integer fillings of the t_1u band. We use the opening of the energy-gap E_g as a criterion for the transition. E_g is calculated as a function of the on-site Coulomb interaction U using fixed-node diffusion Monte Carlo. We find that for systems with doping away from half-filling the Mott transitions occurs at smaller U than for the half-filled system. We give a simple model for the doping dependence of the Mott transition.
We study the filling-driven Mott transition involving the metallic and paramagnetic insulating phases in SU(N) Fermi-Hubbard models, using dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT) and the numerical renormalization group (NRG) as impurity solver. The compressibility shows a striking temperature dependence: near the critical temperature, it is strongly enhanced in the metallic phase close to the insulating phase. We demonstrate that this compressibility enhancement is associated with the thermal suppression of the quasiparticle peak in the local spectral functions. We also explain that the asymmetric …
We study the one-dimensional Anderson-Hubbard model using the density-matrix renormalization group method. The influence of disorder on the Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid behavior is quantitatively discussed. Based on the finite-size scaling analysis of density-density correlation functions, we find the following results: i) the charge exponent is significantly reduced by disorder at low filling and near half filling, ii) the localization length decays as $ξ\sim Δ^{-2}$, where $Δ$ is the disorder strength, independently of the on-site Coulomb interaction as well as band filling, and iii) the locali…
Photoemission spectra of the paramagnetic insulating (PI) phase of (V_0.972Cr_0.028)_2O_3, taken in ultra high vacuum up to the unusually high temperature (T) of 800 K, reveal a property unique to the Mott-Hubbard (MH) insulator and not observed previously. With increasing T the MH gap is filled by spectral weight transfer, in qualitative agreement with high-T theoretical calculations combining dynamical mean field theory and band theory in the local density approximation.
We apply the dynamical mean-field approach to the four-component SU(4)-symmetric Fermi-Hubbard model to study transitions between different magnetically ordered phases as well as the hysteresis behavior in the unordered regime. At quarter filling (one particle per site) on the square lattice we identify both the two-sublattice and plaquette-ordered antiferromagnetic phases with the corresponding entropy-driven hierarchy for critical temperatures. We also analyze the behavior of thermodynamic characteristics: the local double occupancy, compressibility, and entropy per particle, which are relev…
The two-orbital superconducting state is modeled by on-site intra-orbital negative-U Hubbard correlations together with inter-orbital pair-transfer interactions. The critical temperature is mainly governed by intra-orbital attractive interactions and it can pass through an additional maximum as a function of band filling. For the certain number of electrons the clear interband proximity effect is observable in the superconducting state of the band with a smaller gap. The influence of band fillings and orbital site energies on the temperature dependencies of two-component superconductivity cohe…
We derive an effective electronic Hamiltonian for square lattice Hubbard-Holstein model (HHM) in the strong electron-electron (e-e) and electron-phonon (e-ph) coupling regime and under non-adiabatic conditions ($t/ω_0 \leq 1$), $t$ and $ω_0$ being the electron hopping and phonon frequency respectively. Using Density Matrix Renormalization Group method, we simulate this effective electronic model on $4-$Leg cylinder system at quarter-filling and present a phase diagram in $g-U$ plane where $g$ and $U$ are being the e-ph coupling constant and Hubbard on-site interaction respectively. For larger …
We introduce a local formalism to deal with the Hubbard model on a N times N square lattice (for even N) in terms of eigenstates of number operators, having well defined point symmetry. For U -> 0, the low lying shells of the kinetic energy are filled in the ground state. At half filling, using the 2N-2 one-body states of the partially occupied shell S_{hf}, we build a set of (2N-2 N-1)^{2} degenerate unperturbed ground states with S_{z}=0 which are then resolved by the Hubbard interaction $\hat{W}=U\sum_{r}\hat{n}_{r\ua}\hat{n}_{r\da}$. In S_{hf} we study the many-body eigenstates of the kine…
Possibility of superconductivity from electron repulsion in the Shastry-Sutherland lattice, which has a spin gap at half filling, is explored with the repulsive Hubbard model in the fluctuation-exchange approximation. We find that, while superconductivity is not favored around the half-filling, superconductivity is favored around the quarter-filling. Our results suggest that the Fermi surface nesting is more important than the spin dimerization for superconductivity.
We have studied a one dimensional Hubbard superlattice with different Coulomb correlations at alternating sites for a half-filled band. Mean field calculations based on the Hartree-Fock approximation together with a real space renormalization group technique were used to study the ground state of the system. The phase diagrams obtained in these approaches agree with each other from the weak to the intermediate coupling regime. The mean field results show very quick convergence with system size. The renormalization group results indicate a spatial modulation of local moments that was identified…
We investigate the magnetic and metal-insulator (M-I) phase diagram of the 1/5-depleted square-lattice Hubbard model at 1/4 filling by the mean-field approximation. There exist three magnetic phases of nonmagnetic (N), antiferromagnetic (AF), and ferromagnetic (F) types, each realized for the large intrasquare hopping t1, intersquare hopping t2, and Coulomb interaction U, respectively. Within each magnetic phase, the M-I transition of Lifshitz type emerges and, finally, six kind of phases are identified in the U-t1/t2 plane. When t1=t2, we find that the Dirac cone and nearly flat band around t…
