Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be a complex semisimple Lie algebra. The Beilinson-Bernstein localization theorem establishes an equivalence of the category of $\mathfrak{g}$-modules of a fixed infinitesimal character and a category of modules over a twisted sheaf of differential operators on the flag variety of $\mathfrak{g}$. In this expository paper, we give four detailed examples of this theorem when $\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{sl}(2,\mathbb{C})$. Specifically, we describe the $\mathcal{D}$-modules associated to finite-dimensional irreducible $\mathfrak{g}$-modules, Verma modules, Whittaker modules, discrete series representations of $SL(2,\mathbb{R})$, and principal series representations of $SL(2,\mathbb{R})$.
We prove the Frenkel-Gaitsgory localization conjecture describing regular Kac-Moody representations at critical level via eigensheaves on the affine Grassmannian using categorical Moy-Prasad theory. This extends previous work of the authors.
Theory of the quantized flag manifold as a quasi-scheme (non-commutative scheme) has been developed by Lunts-Rosenberg. They have formulated an analogue of the Beilinson-Bernstein correspondence using the $q$-differential operators introduced in their earlier paper. In this paper we shall establish its modified version using a class of $q$-differential operators, which is (possibly) smaller than the one used by Lunts-Rosenberg.
Let us suppose that $\mathbb{Q}_p$ is the field of $p$-adic numbers and $\mathbb{G}$ is a split connected reductive group scheme over $\mathbb{Z}_p$. In this work we will introduce a sheaf of twisted arithmetic differential operators on the formal flag variety of $\mathbb{G}$, associated to a general character. We will generalize the arguments of C. Huyghe and T. Schmidt, concerning the $\mathcal{D}^†$-affinity of the formal flag variety of $\mathbb{G}$, of certain sheaves of $p$-adically complete twisted arithmetic differential operators associated to an algebraic character, and the calculati…
We prove the rank 1 case of a conjecture of Frenkel-Gaitsgory: critical level Kac-Moody representations with regular central characters localize onto the affine Grassmannian. The method uses an analogue in local geometric Langlands of the existence of Whittaker models for most representations of $GL_2$ over a non-Archimedean field.
Let G be a connected split reductive group over a p-adic field. In the first part of the paper we prove, under certain assumptions on G and the prime p, a localization theorem of Beilinson-Bernstein type for admissible locally analytic representations of principal congruence subgroups in the rational points of G. In doing so we take up and extend some recent methods and results of Ardakov-Wadsley on completed universal enveloping algebras to a locally analytic setting. As an application we prove, in the second part of the paper, a locally analytic version of Smith's theorem on the canonical di…
We present a simple proof of a strengthening of the derived Beilinson-Bernstein localization theorem using the formalism of descent in derived algebraic geometry. The arguments and results apply to arbitrary modules without the need to fix infinitesimal character. Roughly speaking, we demonstrate that all Ug-modules are the invariants, or equivalently coinvariants, of the action of intertwining functors (a refined form of Weyl group symmetry). This is a quantum version of descent for the Grothendieck-Springer simultaneous resolution. In an appendix we present an alternative perspective, which …
Cohomological induction gives an algebraic method for constructing representations of a real reductive Lie group $G$ from irreducible representations of reductive subgroups. Beilinson-Bernstein localization alternatively gives a geometric method for constructing Harish-Chandra modules for $G$ from certain representations of a Cartan subgroup. The duality theorem of Hecht, Mili\vcić, Schmid and Wolf establishes a relationship between modules cohomologically induced from minimal parabolics and the cohomology of the $\ms{D}$-modules on the complex flag variety for $G$ determined by the Beilinson-…
We introduce a $p$-adic analytic analogue of Backelin and Kremnizer's construction of the quantum flag variety of a semisimple algebraic group, when $q$ is not a root of unity and $| q-1|<1$. We then define a category of $λ$-twisted $D$-modules on this analytic quantum flag variety. We show that when $λ$ is regular and dominant and when the characteristic of the residue field does not divide the order of the Weyl group, the global section functor gives an equivalence of categories between the coherent $λ$-twisted $D$-modules and the category of finitely generated modules over $\widehat{U_q^λ}$…
We prove a singular version of Beilinson-Bernstein localization for a complex semi-simple Lie algebra following ideas from the positive characteristic case done by \cite{BMR2}. We apply this theory to translation functors, singular blocks in the Bernstein-Gelfand-Gelfand category $\BGGcat$ and Whittaker modules.
We review the Beilinson-Ginzburg construction of equivariant derived categories of Harish-Chandra modules, and introduce analogues of Zuckerman functors in this setting. They are given by an explicit formula, which works equally well in the case of modules with a given infinitesimal character, which is important if one wants to apply Beilinson-Bernstein localization. We also show how to recover the usual Zuckerman functors from the equivariant ones by passing to cohomology.
Beilinson-Bernstein localization realizes representations of complex reductive Lie algebras as monodromic $D$-modules on the "basic affine space" $G/N$, a torus bundle over the flag variety. A doubled version of the same space appears as the horocycle space describing the geometry of the reductive group $G$ at infinity, near the closed stratum of the wonderful compactification $\overline{G}$, or equivalently in the special fiber of the Vinberg semigroup of $G$. We show that Beilinson-Bernstein localization for $U\mathfrak g$-bimodules arises naturally as the specialization at infinity in $\ove…
For any good tilting module $T$ over a ring $A$, there exists an $n$-symmetric subcategory $\mathscr{E}$ of a module category such that the derived category of the endomorphism ring of $T$ is a recollement of the derived categories of $\mathscr{E}$ and $A$ in the sense of Beilinson-Bernstein-Deligne. Thus the kernel of the total left-derived tensor functor induced by the tilting module is triangle equivalent to the derived category of $\mathscr{E}$.
We prove that the canonical dimension of a coadmissible representation of a semisimple $p$-adic Lie group in a $p$-adic Banach space is either zero or at least half the dimension of a non-zero coadjoint orbit. To do this we establish analogues for $p$-adically completed enveloping algebras of Bernstein's inequality for modules over Weyl algebras, the Beilinson-Bernstein localisation theorem and Quillen's Lemma about the endomorphism ring of a simple module over an enveloping algebra.
Based on a construction by Kashiwara and Rouquier, we present an analogue of the Beilinson- Bernstein localization theorem for hypertoric varieties. In this case, sheaves of differential operators are replaced by sheaves of W-algebras. As a special case, our result gives a localization theorem for rational Cherednik algebras associated to cyclic groups.
We study a category of Whittaker modules over a complex semisimple Lie algebra by realizing it as a category of twisted D-modules on the associated flag variety using Beilinson-Bernstein localization. The main result of this paper is the development of a geometric algorithm for computing the composition multiplicities of standard Whittaker modules. This algorithm establishes that these multiplicities are determined by a collection of polynomials we refer to as Whittaker Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials. In the case of trivial nilpotent character, this algorithm specializes to the usual algorithm fo…
The goal of this paper is to establish Beilinson-Bernstein type localization theorems for quantizations of some conical symplectic resolutions. We prove the full localization theorems for finite and affine type A Nakajima quiver varieties. The proof is based on two partial results that hold in more general situations. First, we establish an exactness result for global section functor if there is a tilting generator that has a rank 1 summand. Second, we examine when the global section functor restricts to an equivalence between categories $\mathcal{O}$.
Let $\Oq(G)$ be the algebra of quantized functions on an algebraic group $G$ and $\Oq(B)$ its quotient algebra corresponding to a Borel subgroup $B$ of $G$. We define the category of sheaves on the "quantum flag variety of $G$" to be the $\Oq(B)$-equivariant $\Oq(G)$-modules and proves that this is a proj-category. We construct a category of equivariant quantum $\mathcal{D}$-modules on this quantized flag variety and prove the Beilinson-Bernsteins localization theorem for this category in the case when $q$ is not a root of unity.
The aim of this paper is to identify a certain tensor category of perverse sheaves on the real loop Grassmannian of a real form $G_{\mathbb R}$ of a connected reductive complex algebraic group $G$ with the category of finite-dimensional representations of a connected reductive complex algebraic subgroup $\check H$ of the dual group $\check G$. The root system of $\check H$ is closely related to the restricted root system of the real form $G_{\mathbb R}$. The fact that $\check H$ is reductive implies that an interesting family of real algebraic maps satisfies the conclusion of the Decomposition…
Beilinson--Bernstein localisation relates representations of a Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ to certain $\mathcal{D}$-modules on the flag variety of $\mathfrak{g}$. In [arXiv:2002.01540], examples of $\mathfrak{sl}_2$-representations which correspond to $\mathcal{D}$-modules on $\mathbb{CP}^1$ were computed. In this expository article, we give a topological description of these and extended examples via the Riemann-Hilbert correspondence. We generalise this to a full characterisation of $\mathfrak{sl}_2$-representations which correspond to holonomic $\mathcal{D}$-modules on $\mathbb{CP}^1$ with a…
We prove a localization theorem for affine $W$-algebras in the spirit of Beilinson--Bernstein and Kashiwara--Tanisaki. More precisely, for any non-critical regular weight $λ$, we identify $λ$-monodromic Whittaker $D$-modules on the enhanced affine flag variety with a full subcategory of Category $\mathscr{O}$ for the $W$-algebra. To identify the essential image of our functor, we provide a new realization of Category $\mathscr{O}$ for affine $W$-algebras using Iwahori--Whittaker modules for the corresponding Kac--Moody algebra. Using these methods, we also obtain a new proof of Arakawa's chara…
We consider the category of modules over the affine Kac-Moody algebra g^ of critical level with regular central character. In our previous paper math.RT/0508382 we conjectured that this category is equivalent to the category of Hecke eigen-D-modules on the affine Grassmannian G((t))/G[[t]]. This conjecture was motivated by our proposal for a local geometric Langlands correspondence. In this paper we prove this conjecture for the corresponding I^0 equivariant categories, where I^0 is the radical of the Iwahori subgroup of G((t)). Our result may be viewed as an affine analogue of the equivalence…
Let L be a finite field extension of Q_p and let G be the group of L-rational points of a split connected reductive group over L. We view G as a locally L-analytic group with Lie algebra g. We define a functor from admissible locally analytic G-representations with prescribed infinitesimal character to a category of equivariant sheaves on the Bruhat-Tits building of G. For smooth representations, the corresponding sheaves are closely related to the sheaves constructed by S. Schneider and U. Stuhler. The functor is also compatible, in a certain sense, with the localization of g-modules on the f…
In math.RT/0205144 we observed that, on the level of derived categories, representations of the Lie algebra of a semisimple algebraic group over a field of finite characteristic with a given (generalized) regular central character can be identified with coherent sheaves on the formal neighborhood of the corresponding (generalized) Springer fiber. In the present paper we treat singular central characters. The basic step is the Beilinson-Bernstein localization of modules with a fixed (generalized) central character as sheaves on the partial flag variety corresponding to the singularity of the ch…
We associate to an arbitrary positive root $α$ of a complex semisimple finite-dimensional Lie algebra $\mfrak{g}$ a twisting endofunctor $T_α$ of the category of $\mfrak{g}$-modules. We apply this functor to generalized Verma modules in the category $\mcal{O}(\mfrak{g})$ and construct a family of $α$-Gelfand--Tsetlin modules with finite $Γ_α$-multiplicities, where $Γ_α$ is a commutative $\C$-subalgebra of the universal enveloping algebra of $\mfrak{g}$ generated by a Cartan subalgebra of $\mfrak{g}$ and by the Casimir element of the $\mfrak{sl}(2)$-subalgebra corresponding to the root $α$. Thi…
We study the behaviour of D-cap-modules on rigid analytic varieties under pushforward along a proper morphism. We prove a D-cap-module analogue of Kiehl's Proper Mapping Theorem, considering the derived sheaf-theoretic pushforward from $\mathcal{D}_X$-cap-modules to $f_*\mathcal{D}_X$-cap-modules for proper morphisms $f: X\to Y$. Under assumptions which can be naturally interpreted as a certain properness condition on the cotangent bundle, we show that any coadmissible $\mathcal{D}_X$-cap-module has coadmissible higher direct images. This implies among other things a purely geometric justifica…
We construct twisted $\mathcal{D}$-modules on the projective line $\mathbb{P}^1$ that are equivariant for the action of the diagonal torus subgroup of $SL_2$. In the most interesting case these arise as extensions from local systems on $\mathbb{C}^{\times}$. We discuss their subquotient structure. Their sheaf cohomology groups are weight modules for the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sl}_2$. We also discuss their subquotient structure and in case these modules are not the familiar highest or lowest weight modules, we give an explicit presentation for them. Our computations illustrate some basic $\math…
In the representation theory of real reductive Lie groups, many objects have finiteness properties. For example, the lengths of Verma modules and principal series representations are finite, and more precisely, they are bounded. In this paper, we introduce a notion of uniformly bounded families of holonomic $\mathscr{D}$-modules to explain and find such boundedness properties. A uniform bounded family has good properties. For instance, the lengths of modules in the family are bounded and the uniform boundedness is preserved by direct images and inverse images. By the Beilinson--Bernstein corre…
We observe that on the level of derived categories, representations of the Lie algebra of a semisimple algebraic group over a field of characteristic $p> h$ (where $h$ is the Coxeter number), with a given (generalized) central character are the same as the coherent sheaves on (generalized) Springer fibers. The first step is to observe that the derived functor of global sections provides an equivalence between the derived category of $D$-modules (with no divided powers) on the flag variety and the appropriate derived category of modules over the corresponding Lie algebra. Thus the ``derived'' v…
In the paper \cite{BK} we defined categories of equivariant quantum $\mathcal{O}_q$-modules and $\mathcal{D}_q$-modules on the quantum flag variety of $G$. We proved that the Beilinson-Bernstein localization theorem holds at a generic $q$. Here we prove that a derived version of this theorem holds at the root of unity case. Namely, the global section functor gives a derived equivalence between category of $U_q$-modules and $\mathcal{D}_q$-modules on the quantum flag variety. For this we first prove that $\mathcal{D}_q$ is an Azumaya algebra over an open subset ofthe cotangent bundle $T^\star X…
We develop a theory of equivariant factorization algebras on varieties with an action of a connected algebraic group $G$, extending the definitions of Francis-Gaitsgory [FG] and Beilinson-Drinfeld [BD1] to the equivariant setting. We define an equivariant analogue of factorization homology, valued in modules over $\text{H}^\bullet_G(\text{pt})$, and in the case $G=(\mathbb{C}^\times)^n$ we prove an equivariant localization theorem for factorization homology, analogous to the classical localization theorem [AtB]. We establish a relationship between $\mathbb{C}^\times$ equivariant factorization …
