The quadrupole collective Hamiltonian, based on relativistic energy density functionals, is extended to include a pairing collective coordinate. In addition to quadrupole shape vibrations and rotations, the model describes pairing vibrations and the coupling between shape and pairing degrees of freedom. The parameters of the collective Hamiltonian are determined by constrained self-consistent relativistic mean-field plus Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (RMF+BCS) calculations in the space of intrinsic shape and pairing deformations. The effect of coupling between shape and pairing degrees of freedom is analyzed in a study of low-energy spectra and transition rates of four axially symmetric $N=92$ rare-earth isotones. When compared to results obtained with the standard quadrupole collective Hamiltonian, the inclusion of dynamical pairing increases the moment of inertia, lowers the energies of excited $0^+$ states and reduces the E0-transition strengths, in better agreement with data.
We present a new analysis of the pairing vibrations around 56Ni, with emphasis on odd-odd nuclei. This analysis of the experimental excitation energies is based on the subtraction of average properties that include the full symmetry energy together with volume, surface and Coulomb terms. The results clearly indicate a collective behavior of the isovector pairing vibrations and do not support any appreciable collectivity in the isoscalar channel.
L=0 proton-neutron ($pn$) pair-addition and pair-removal strengths in $^{40}$Ca and $^{56}$Ni are investigated by means of the $pn$ particle-particle random-phase approximation employing a Skyrme energy-density functional. It is found that the collectivity of the lowest $J^π= 1^+$ state in the adjacent odd-odd nuclei becomes stronger as the strength of the isoscalar (T=0) pairing interaction increases. The results suggest the emergence of the T=0 $pn$-pairing vibrational mode as a possible critical phenomenon toward the T=0 pairing condensation.
In addition to shape oscillations, low-energy excitation spectra of deformed nuclei are also influenced by pairing vibrations. The simultaneous description of these collective modes and their coupling has been a long-standing problem in nuclear structure theory. Here we address the problem in terms of self-consistent mean-field calculations of collective deformation energy surfaces, and the framework of the interacting boson approximation. In addition to quadrupole shape vibrations and rotations, the explicit coupling to pairing vibrations is taken into account by a boson-number non-conserving…
Pairing interactions with various density dependencies (surface/volume mixing) are constrained with the two-neutron separation energy in the Tin isotopic chain. The response associated with pairing vibrations in very neutron-rich nuclei is sensitive to the density dependence of the pairing interaction. Using the same pairing interaction in nuclear matter and in Tin nuclei, the range of densities where the LDA is valid in the pairing channel is also studied.
We propose a method to incorporate the coupling between shape and pairing collective degrees of freedom in the framework of the interacting boson model (IBM), based on the nuclear density functional theory. To account for pairing vibrations, a boson-number non-conserving IBM Hamiltonian is introduced. The Hamiltonian is constructed by using solutions of self-consistent mean-field calculations based on a universal energy density functional and pairing force, with constraints on the axially-symmetric quadrupole and pairing intrinsic deformations. By mapping the resulting quadrupole-pairing poten…
The Giant Pairing Vibration, a two-nucleon collective mode originating from the second shell above the Fermi surface, has long been predicted and expected to be strongly populated in two-nucleon transfer reactions with cross sections similar to those of the normal Pairing Vibration. Recent experiments have provided evidence for this mode in $^{14,15}$C but, despite sensitive studies, it has not been definitively identified either in Sn or Pb nuclei where pairing correlations are known to play a crucial role near their ground states. In this paper we review the basic theoretical concepts of thi…
The collective pairing hamiltonian is obtained in the framework of the generator coordinate method in the gaussian overlap approximation with a slightly modified BCS function used as a generator function. The collective variable alpha, measuring the monopole moment of the pairing field, and the gauge transformation angle phi are chosen as generator coordinates. The vibrational ground states are calculated by diagonalisation of the collective pairing hamiltonian in the harmonic oscillator basis.
In this paper we analyze the possibility of the appearance of quadrupole vibrational states in superdeformed nuclei from the $A\approx 150$ region. We discuss the role of pairing correlations for a proper description of quadrupole vibrations, especially of the $β$ type.
We study pairing vibrations in $^{18,20,22}$O and $^{42,44,46}$Ca nuclei solving the time-dependent Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov equation in coordinate space with spherical symmetry. We use the SLy4 Skyrme functional in the normal part of the energy density functional and a local density dependent functional in its pairing part. Pairing vibrations are excited by two-neutron transfer operators. Strength distributions are obtained using the Fourier transform of the time-dependent response of two-neutron pair-transfer observables in the linear regime. Results are in overall agreement with quasiparticl…
On the basis of time-dependent mean-field picture, we discuss the nature of the low-frequency quadrupole vibrations from small-amplitude to large-amplitude regimes as representatives of surface shape vibrations of a superfluid droplet (nucleus). We consider full five-dimensional quadrupole dynamics including three-dimensional rotations restoring the broken symmetries as well as axially symmetric and asymmetric shape fluctuations. We show that the intimate connections between the BCS pairing and collective vibrations reveal through the inertial masses governing their collective kinetic energies…
The use of radioactive ion beams is shown to offer the possibility to study collective pairing states at high excitation energy, which are not usually accessible with stable projectiles because of large energy mismatch. In the case of two-neutron stripping reactions induced by 6He, we predict a population of the Giant Pairing Vibration in 208Pb or 116Sn with cross sections of the order of a millibarn, dominating over the mismatched transition to the ground state.
Excitation of pairing vibrations in superfluid nuclei is studied by using a kinetic model based on the Vlasov equation with pairing, derived from the time-dependent Hartree-Fock-Bogolyubov theory. The anomalous density response function is used to find the monopole pairing mode and the dynamic variation of the pairing gap associated with this mode. The spectroscopic factor for the excitation of monopole pairing vibrations in two-neutron transfer reaction is estimated. It is found that the pairing correlations give rise to the same coherent contribution to the semiclassical spectroscopic factor…
For studying the collective pairing excitations of nuclei, the two-nucleon transfer reactions in superfluid nuclei (the pairing gap of the ground state is not zero), in particular, the (p,t) reaction, are of the greatest interest. A simple model of monopole pairing excitations in superfluid nuclei on the basis of the semiclassical time-dependent Hartree-Fock-Bogolyubov theory in the limit of small amplitudes is considered. Using the anomalous density response function, the monopole pairing mode in the energy region of double pairing gap and the variation of the pairing gap associated with this…
Coupling shape and pairing vibrations in a collective Hamiltonian based on nuclear energy density functionals (II): low-energy excitation spectra of triaxial nuclei
Two-neutron transfer associated with the pair correlation in superfluid neutron-rich nuclei is studied with focus on low-lying $0^+$ states in Sn isotopes beyond the N=82 magic number. We describe microscopically the two-neutron addition and removal transitions by means of the Skyrme-Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov mean-field model and the continuum quasiparticle random phase approximation formulated in the coordinate space representation. It is found that the pair transfer strength for the transitions between the ground states becomes significantly large for the isotopes with $A \ge 140$, reflecting …
We investigate the possible signature of the presence of giant pairing states at excitation energy of about 10 MeV via two-particle transfer reactions induced by neutron-rich weakly-bound projectiles. Performing particle-particle RPA calculations on $^{208}$Pb and BCS+RPA calculations on $^{116}$Sn, we obtain the pairing strength distribution for two particles addition and removal modes. Estimates of two-particle transfer cross sections can be obtained in the framework of the 'macroscopic model'. The weak-binding nature of the projectile kinematically favours transitions to high-lying states. …
The effect of coupling between pairing and quadrupole triaxial shape vibrations on the low-energy collective states of $γ$-soft nuclei is investigated using a model based on the framework of nuclear energy density functionals (EDFs). Employing a constrained self-consistent mean-field (SCMF) method that uses universal EDFs and pairing interactions, potential energy surfaces of characteristic $γ$-soft Os and Pt nuclei with $A\approx190$ are calculated as functions of the pairing and triaxial quadrupole deformations. Collective spectroscopic properties are computed using a number-nonconserving in…
Low-frequency quadrupole vibrational modes in deformed $^{36,38,40}$Mg close to the neutron drip line are studied by means of the quasiparticle-random-phase approximation based on the coordinate-space Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov formalism. Strongly collective $K^π=0^{+}$ and $2^{+}$ excitation modes carrying 10-20 Weisskopf units in the intrinsic isoscalar quadrupole transition strengths are obtained at about 3 MeV. There are two reasons for the enhancement of the transition strengths. First, the quasiparticle wave functions generating these modes possess spatially very extended structure. The asy…
The role of dynamical pairing in induced fission dynamics is investigated using the time-dependent generator coordinate method in the Gaussian overlap approximation, based on the microscopic framework of nuclear energy density functionals. A calculation of fragment charge yields for induced fission of $^{228}$Th is performed in a three-dimensional space of collective coordinates that, in addition to the axial quadrupole and octupole intrinsic deformations of the nuclear density, also includes an isoscalar pairing degree of freedom. It is shown that the inclusion of dynamical pairing has a pron…
For a description of large-amplitude collective motion associated with nuclear pairing, requantization of time-dependent mean-field dynamics is performed using the stationary-phase approximation (SPA) to the path integral. We overcome the difficulty of the SPA, which is known to be applicable to integrable systems only, by developing a requantization approach combining the SPA with the adiabatic self-consistent collective coordinate method (ASCC+SPA). We apply the ASCC+SPA to multi-level pairing models, which are non-integrable systems, to study the nuclear pairing dynamics. The ASCC+SPA gives…
A model Hamiltonian describing a two-level system with a crossing plus a pairing force is investigated using technique of large-amplitude collective motion. The collective path, which is determined by the decoupling conditions, is found to be almost identical to the one in the Born-Oppenheimer approximation for the case of a strong pairing force. For the weak pairing case, the obtained path describes a diabatic dynamics of the system.
Large amplitude collective motion is investigated for a model pairing Hamiltonian containing an avoided level crossing. A classical theory of collective motion for the adiabatic limit is applied utilising either a time-dependent mean-field theory or a direct parametrisation of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation. A modified local harmonic equation is formulated to take account of the Nambu-Goldstone mode. It turns out that in some cases the system selects a diabatic path. Requantizing the collective Hamiltonian, a reasonable agreement with an exact calculation for the low-lying levels are …
We review the theory of nuclear collective vibrations evolved over decades from phenomenological quasiclassical picture to sophisticated microscopic approaches. The major focus is put on the underlying microscopic mechanisms of emergent effects, which define the properties of giant resonances and soft modes. The response of atomic nuclei to electromagnetic and weak fields is discussed in detail. Astrophysical implications of the giant resonances and soft modes are outlined.
For the first time, a wide range of collective magnetic g-factors g$_{\rm R}$, obtained from a novel analysis of experimental data for multi-quasiparticle configurations in high-K isomers, is shown to exhibit a striking systematic variation with the relative number of proton and neutron quasiparticles, N$_{\rm p}$ - N$_{\rm n}$. Using the principle of additivity, the quasi-particle contribution to magnetism in high-K isomers of Lu - Re, Z = 71 - 75, has been estimated. Based on these estimates, band-structure branching ratio data are used to explore the behaviour of the collective contribution…
A detailed derivation of the collisional widths of collective vibrations is presented in both quantal and semi-classical frameworks by considering the linearized limits of the extended TDHF and the BUU model with a non-Markovian binary collision term. Damping widths of giant dipole and giant quadrupole excitations are calculated by employing an effective Skyrme force, and the results are compared with GDR measurements in Lead and Tin nuclei at finite temperature.
The construction of differential cross sections as a function of excitation energy for systems with a collection of low- and high-lying intrinsic vibrational modes has been attempted in the past. A prescription is proposed that simplifies the implementation of such calculation schemes with a remarkable reduction in computational time.
We present a detailed discussion of the solution of Nambu-Gor'kov equations in superfluid nuclei, which provide a consistent framework to deal with the interplay between particle-hole and particle- particle channel, including the effects of the fragmentation of the quasiparticle strength and of the pairing interaction induced by the exchange of collective vibrations. The coupling between quasiparticle and vibrations is determined from the experimental polarizability of the low-lying collective surface vibrations. This coupling is used to renormalize the properties of quasiparticles obtained fr…
To describe quantal collective phenomena, it is useful to requantize the time-dependent mean-field dynamics. We study the time-dependent Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (TDHFB) theory for the two-level pairing Hamiltonian, and compare results of different quantization methods. The one constructing microscopic wave functions, using the TDHFB trajectories fulfilling the Einstein-Brillouin-Keller quantization condition, turns out to be the most accurate. The method is based on the stationary-phase approximation to the path integral. We also examine the performance of the collective model which assumes th…
The effective field theory (EFT) for triaxially deformed even-even nuclei is generalized to include the vibrational degrees of freedom. The pertinent Hamiltonian is constructed up to next-to-leading order. The leading order part describes the vibrational motion, and the NLO part couples rotations to vibrations. The applicability of the EFT Hamiltonian is examined through the description of the energy spectra of the ground state bands, $γ$-bands, and $K=4$ bands in the $^{108, 110, 112}$Ru isotopes. It is found that by taking into account the vibrational degrees of freedom, the deviations for h…
Important features of low-frequency collective vibrational excitations in neutron drip line nuclei are studied. We emphasize that pairing anti-halo effect in the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB) theory play crucial roles to realize collective motions in loosely bound nuclei. We study the spatial properties of one particle - one hole (1p-1h) states with/without selfconsistent pairing correlations by solving simplified HF(B) equations in coordinate space. Next, by performing Skyrme-HFB plus selfconsistent quasiparticle random phase approximation (QRPA) we investigate the first 2+ states in neutron …
A closed expression is derived for the pair vibrational correlation energy generated in the random phase approximation by the isovector pairing force in the case when Kramers and charge degenerate single-nucleon levels are uniformly distributed in an interval. The expression is used to analyze the spectral density of pair vibrational frequencies relative to that of two-quasinucleon energies. Applications to the analysis of the symmetry energy of the isovector pairing model and to a Strutinskij renormalization of this model are discussed.
Studies of fission dynamics, based on nuclear energy density functionals, have shown that the coupling between shape and pairing degrees of freedom has a pronounced effect on the nonperturbative collective inertia and, therefore, on dynamic (least-action) spontaneous fission paths and half-lives. Collective potentials and nonperturbative cranking collective inertia tensors are calculated using the multidimensionally-constrained relativistic mean-field (MDC-RMF) model. Pairing correlations are treated in the BCS approximation using a separable pairing force of finite range. Pairing fluctuations…
A summary of recent researches on nuclear dynamics with realistic microscopic quantum approaches is presented. The Balian-Vénéroni variational principle is used to derive the time-dependent Hartree-Fock (TDHF) equation describing the dynamics at the mean-field level, as well as an extension including small-amplitude quantum fluctuations which is equivalent to the time-dependent random-phase approximation (TDRPA). Such formalisms as well as their practical implementation in the nuclear physics framework with modern three-dimensional codes are discussed. Recent applications to nuclear dynamics, …
Boson creation operators constructed from linear combinations of q- deformed zero coupled nucleon pair operators acting on the nucleus (A,0), are used to derive pp-RPA equations. The solutions of these equations are the pairing vibrations in (A${\underline{+}}$2) nuclei. For the $0^+_1$ and $0^+_2$ states of the nucleus $^{208}$Pb, the variations of relative energies and transfer cross-sections for populating these states via (t,p) reaction, with deformation parameter $τ$ have been analysed. For $τ=0.405$ the experimental excitation energy of 4.87MeV and the ratio $\frac{σ(0^+_2) }{σ(0^+_1)}=0…
The theoretical approach to consideration of the Hamiltonian with pairing forces using a technique of the finite boson representation is developed. It is shown that a simultaneous description of the pairing vibrational state in $^{56}$Ni and the pairing rotational states with $T$=0 in the neighboring $N=Z$ nuclei is possible if the pairing Hamiltonian takes into account only isovector monopole pairing. However, the calculated energies of the pairing rotational states of $N=Z$ nuclei removed from $^{56}$Ni by 12 and more nucleons exceed significantly the experimental values. The possible reason…
The energy splittings between the proton $1h_{11/2}$ and $1g_{7/2}$ states in the Sb (Z=51) isotopes and the neutron $1i_{13/2}$ and $1h_{9/2}$ states in the ${N=83}$ isotones are analyzed within relativistic quasiparticle-vibration coupling (QVC) model. Although a common viewpoint is that an effective tensor interaction is needed to reproduce these splittings, we show, for the first time, that quasiparticle-vibration coupling also improves their description considerably. The remaining differences between the experiment and the QVC calculations point to a complex scenario in which both tensor …
We discuss novel features of a new continuum RPA formulated in the coordinate-space Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov framework. This continuum quasiparticle RPA takes into account both the one- and two-particle escaping channels. The theory is tested with numerical calculations for monopole, dipole and quadrupole excitations in neutron-rich oxygen isotopes near the drip-line. Effects of the particle-particle RPA correlation caused by the pairing interaction are discussed in detail, and importance of the selfconsistent treatment is emphasized.
The properties of the pairing interaction in the shell model framework are considered with the aid of the exact numerical solution utilizing the quasispin symmetry. We emphasize the features which are out of reach for the usual approximate techniques based on the BCS approach supplemented by the random phase approximation treatment of pair vibrations, especially in the region of weak pairing where the BCS+RPA theory fails. For the first time chaotic aspects of the mixing generated by the pairing interaction are studied. The level repulsion and large information entropy of the eigenstates coexi…
We develop in this article a microscopic version of the successful phenomenological hydrodynamic Bohr-Davydov-Faessler-Greiner (BDFG) model for the collective rotation-vibration motion of a deformed nucleus. The model derivation is not limited to small oscillation amplitudes. The model generalizes the author's previous model to include interaction between collective oscillations in each pair of spatial directions, and to remove many of the previous-model approximations. To derive the model, the nuclear Schrodinger equation is canonically transformed to collective coordinates and then linearize…
We study the linear response of the inner crust of neutron stars within the Random Phase Approximation, employing a Skyrme-type interaction as effective interaction. We adopt the Wigner-Seitz approximation, and consider a single unit cell of the Coulomb lattice which constitutes the inner crust, with a nucleus at its center, surrounded by a sea of free neutrons. With the use of an appropriate operator, it is possible to analyze in detail the properties of the vibrations of the surface of the nucleus and their interaction with the modes of the sea of free neutrons, and to investigate the role o…
We propose a modified pairing functional for nuclear structure calculations which avoids the abrupt phase transition between pairing and non-pairing states. The intended application is the description of nuclear collective motion where the smoothing of the transition is compulsory to remove singularities. The stabilized pairing functional allows a thoroughly variational formulation, unlike the Lipkin-Nogami (LN) scheme which is often used for the purpose of smoothing. First applications to nuclear ground states and collective excitations prove the reliability and efficiency of the proposed sta…
Based on Bohr model, we have presented a general formalism describing the collective motion for any deformed system, in which the collective Hamiltonian is expressed as vibrations in the body-fixed frame, rotation of whole system around the laboratory frame, and coupling between vibrations and rotation. Under the condition of decoupling approximation, we have derived the quantized Hamiltonian operator. Based on the operator, we have calculated the rotational spectra for some special octupole and hexadecapole deformed systems, and shown their dependencies on deformation. The result indicates th…
A collective bands of positive and negative parity could be composed of the vibrations and rotations. The rotations of the octupole configurations can be based either on the axial or the non-axial octupole vibrations. A consistent approach to the quadrupole-octupole collective vibrations coupled with the rotational motion enables to distinguish between various scenarios of disappearance of the E2 transitions in negative-parity bands. The here presented theoretical estimates are compared with the recent experimental energies and transition probabilities in and between the ground-state and low-e…
Collective inertia is strongly influenced at the level crossing at which quantum system changes diabatically its microscopic configuration. Pairing correlations tend to make the large-amplitude nuclear collective motion more adiabatic by reducing the effect of those configuration changes. Competition between pairing and level crossing is thus expected to have a profound impact on spontaneous fission lifetimes. To elucidate the role of nucleonic pairing on spontaneous fission, we study the dynamic fission trajectories of $^{264}$Fm and $^{240}$Pu using the state-of-the-art self-consistent frame…
We derive a microscopic version of the successful phenomenological hydrodynamic model of Bohr-Davydov-Faessler-Greiner for collective rotation-vibration motion of an axially symmetric deformed nucleus. The derivation is not limited to small oscillation amplitude. The nuclear Schrodinger equation is canonically transformed the to collective co-ordinates, which is then linearized using a constrained variational method. The associated constraints are imposed on the wavefunction rather than on the particle co-ordinates. The approach yields three self-consistent, time-reversal invariant, cranking-t…
A simple model, in which nuclei are represented as homogeneous spheres of symmetric nuclear matter, is used to study the effects of a self-consistent pairing interaction on the nuclear response. Effects due to the finite size of nuclei are suitably taken into account. The semiclassical equations of motion derived in a previous paper for the time-dependent Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov problem are solved in an improved (linear) approximation in which the pairing field is allowed to oscillate and to become complex. The new solutions are in good agreement with the old ones and also with the result of w…
Nuclear pairing properties are studied within an approach that includes the quasiparticle-number fluctuation (QNF) and coupling to the quasiparticle-pair vibrations at finite temperature and angular momentum. The formalism is developed to describe non-collective rotations about the symmetry axis. The numerical calculations are performed within a doubly-folded equidistant multilevel model as well as several realistic nuclei. The results obtained for the pairing gap, total energy and heat capacity show that the QNF smoothes out the sharp SN phase transition and leads to the appearance of a therm…
The linear response approach to nuclear transport has been extended to pair correlations. The latter are treated within a mean field approximation to a pairing interaction with constant matrix elements $G$. The constraint of particle number conservation has been accounted for on a time dependent average, which leads to modified response functions, both in the pairing degree of freedom as well as in the shape variable. The former is expressed by the gap parameter $Δ$ and the latter by a $Q$ which specifies the elongation of a fissioning nucleus. The tensors for friction and inertia correspondin…
Based on a recent experimental finding which may suggest the existence of a tri-nuclear molecular structure before the cold ternary fragmentation of $^{252}$Cf takes place, we solved the eigenvalue problem of a certain class of vibrations which are very likely to occur in these molecules. These oscillations are the result of the joined action of rotations of the heavier fragments and the transversal vibrations of the lighter spherical cluster with respect to the fission axis. In the calculation of the interaction between the heavier fragments we took into account higher multipole deformations,…
In the frame of the algebraic Riemann Rotational Model one computes the longitudinal, transverse and toroidal multipoles corresponding to the excitations of low-lying levels in the ground state band of several even-even nuclei by inelastic electron scattering (e,e'). Related to these transitions a new quantity, which accounts for the deviations from the Siegert theorem, is introduced. The intimate connection between the nuclear vorticity and the dynamic toroidal quadrupole moment is underlined. Inelastic differential cross-sections calculated at backscattering angles shows the dominancy of tor…
An iterative method we previously proposed to compute nuclear strength functions is developed to allow it to accurately calculate properties of individual nuclear states. The approach is based on the quasi-particle-random-phase approximation (QRPA) and uses an iterative non-hermitian Arnoldi diagonalization method where the QRPA matrix does not have to be explicitly calculated and stored. The method gives substantial advantages over conventional QRPA calculations with regards to the computational cost. The method is used to calculate excitation energies and decay rates of the lowest lying 2+ a…
We describe the ground state of the isovector pairing Hamiltonian in self-conjugate nuclei by a product of collective quartets of different structure built from two neutrons and two protons coupled to total isospin T=0. The structure of the collective quartets is determined by an iterative variational procedure based on a sequence of diagonalizations of the pairing Hamiltonian in spaces of reduced size. The accuracy of the quartet model is tested for N=Z nuclei carrying valence nucleons outside the $^{16}$O, $^{40}$Ca, and $^{100}$Sn cores. The comparison with the exact solutions of the pairin…
We investigate the use of an operatorial basis in a self-consistent theory of large amplitude collective motion. For the example of the pairing-plus-quadrupole model, which has been studied previously at equilibrium, we show that a small set of carefully chosen state-dependent basis operators is sufficient to approximate the exact solution of the problem accuratly. This approximation is used to study the interplay of quadrupole and pairing degrees of freedom along the collective path for realistic examples of nuclei. We show how this leads to a viable calculational scheme for studying nuclear …
Given a set of collective variables, a method is proposed to obtain the associated conjugated collective momenta and masses starting from a microscopic time-dependent mean-field theory. The construction of pairs of conjugated variables is the first step to bridge microscopic and macroscopic approaches. The method is versatile and can be applied to study a large class of nuclear processes. An illustration is given here with the fission of $^{258}$Fm. Using the quadrupole moment and eventually higher-order multipole moments, the associated collective masses are estimated along the microscopic me…
We propose a self-consistent quasi-particle random phase approximation (QRPA) plus quasi-particle-vibration coupling (QPVC) model with Skyrme interactions to describe the width and the line shape of giant resonances in open-shell nuclei, in which the effect of superfluidity should be taken into account in both the ground state and the excited states. We apply the new model to the Gamow-Teller resonance in the superfluid nucleus $^{120}$Sn, including both the isoscalar spin-triplet and the isovector spin-singlet pairing interactions. The strength distribution in $^{120}$Sn is well reproduced an…
We have studied, for the first time, the influence of the collective quantum effects in the nuclear wave functions on the azimuthal anisotropy coefficients $ε_{2,3}$ in the central Pb+Pb collisions at the LHC energies. With the help of the energy weighted sum rule we demonstrate that the classical treatment with the Woods-Saxon nuclear density overestimates the mean square quadrupole moment of the $^{208}$Pb nucleus by a factor of $\sim 2.2$. The Monte-Carlo Glauber simulation of the central Pb+Pb collisions accounting for the restriction on the quadrupole moment leads to $ε_2/ε_3\approx 0.8$ …
