For a fixed reals $c>0$, $a>0$ and $α>-\frac{1}{2}$, the circular prolate spheroidal wave functions (CPSWFs) or 2d-Slepian functions as some authors call it, are the eigenfunctions of the finite Hankel transform operator, denoted by $\mathcal{H}_c^α$, which is the integral operator defined on $L^2(0,1)$ with kernel $H_c^α(x,y)=\sqrt{cxy}J_α(cxy)$. Also, they are the eigenfunctions of the positive, self-adjoint compact integral operator $\mathcal{Q}_c^α=c\mathcal{H}_c^α\mathcal{H}_c^α.$ The CPSWFs play a central role in many applications such as the analysis of 2d-radial signals. Moreover, a renewed interest on the CPSWFs instead of Fourier-Bessel basis is expected to follow from the potential applications in Cryo-EM and that makes them attractive for steerable of principal component analysis(PCA). For this purpose, we give in this paper a precise non-asymptotic estimates for these eigenvalues, within the three main regions of the spectrum of $\mathcal{Q}_c^α$ as well as these distributions in $(0,1).$ Moreover, we describe a series expansion of CPSWFs with respect to the generalized Laguerre functions basis of $L^2(0,\infty)$ defined by $ψ_{n,α}^a(x)=\sqrt{2}a^{α+1}x^{α+1/2}e^{-\frac{(ax)^2}{2}}\widetilde{L}_n^α(a^2x^2)$, where $\widetilde{L}_n^α$ is the normalised Laguerre polynomial.
We describe large classes of compact self-adjoint Hankel operators whose eigenvalues have power asymptotics and obtain explicit expressions for the coefficient in front of the leading term. The results are stated both in the discrete and continuous representations for Hankel operators. We also elucidate two key principles underpinning the proof of such asymptotic relations. We call them {\it the localization principle} and {\it the symmetry principle}. The localization principle says that disjoint components of the singular support of the symbol of a Hankel operator make independent contributi…
In the power scale, the asymptotic behavior of the singular values of a compact Hankel operator is determined by the behavior of the symbol in a neighborhood of its singular support. In this paper, we discuss the localization principle which says that the contributions of disjoint parts of the singular support of the symbol to the asymptotic behavior of the singular values are independent of each other. We apply this principle to Hankel integral operators and to infinite Hankel matrices. In both cases, we describe a wide class of Hankel operators with power-like asymptotics of singular values.…
In this paper we determine the asymptotics of the determinants of truncated Wiener-Hopf plus Hankel operators $\det(W_R(a)\pm H_R(a))$ as $R$ tends to infinity for symbols $a(x)=(x^2/(1+x^2))^β$ with the parameter $β$ being of small size.
In this article we study the fractional Hankel transform and its inverse on certain Gel'fand-Shilov spaces of type S. The continuous fractional wavelet transform is defined involving the fractional Hankel transform. The continuity of fractional Hankel wavelet transform is discussed on Gel'fand-Shilov spaces of type S. This article goes further to discuss the continuity property of fractional Hankel transform and fractional Hankel wavelet transform on the ultradifferentiable function spaces.
We establish asymptotic formulas for the determinants of finite Toeplitz + Hankel matrices of size N, as N goes to infinity for singular generating functions defined on the unit circle in the special case where the generating function is even, i.e., where the Toeplitz + Hankel matrices are symmetric.
We study the asymptotics in n for n-dimensional Toeplitz determinants whose symbols possess Fisher-Hartwig singularities on a smooth background. We prove the general non-degenerate asymptotic behavior as conjectured by Basor and Tracy. We also obtain asymptotics of Hankel determinants on a finite interval as well as determinants of Toeplitz+Hankel type. Our analysis is based on a study of the related system of orthogonal polynomials on the unit circle using the Riemann-Hilbert approach.
We compute the asymptotics of the determinants of certain $n\times n$ Toeplitz + Hankel matrices $T_n(a)+H_n(b)$ as $n\to\infty$ with symbols of Fisher-Hartwig type. More specifically we consider the case where $a$ has zeros and poles and where $b$ is related to $a$ in specific ways. Previous results of Deift, Its and Krasovsky dealt with the case where $a$ is even. We are generalizing this in a mild way to certain non-even symbols.
The purpose of this paper is to describe asymptotic formulas for determinants of a sum of finite Toeplitz and Hankel matrices with singular generating functions. The formulas are similar to those of the analogous problem for finite Toeplitz matrices for a certain class of symbols. However, the appearance of the Hankel matrices changes the nature of the asymptotics in some instances depending on the location of the singularities. Several concrete examples are also described in the paper.
In this paper we are going to prove two asymptotic formulas for determinants det(I-K_s), as s goes to infinity, where K_s are the Wiener-Hopf-Hankel operators acting on L^2[0,s] with the kernels K(x-y)+K(x+y) and K(x-y)-K(x+y), respectively, and K(t):=sin(t)/(π*t). These formulas were conjectured by Dyson. The identification of the constant term in the asymptotics was an open problem for a long time.
We deal with a class of one-parameter family of integral transforms of Bargmann type arising as dual transforms of fractional Hankel transform. Their ranges are identified to be special subspaces of the weighted hyperholomorphic left Hilbert spaces, generalizing the slice Bergman space of the second kind. Their reproducing kernel is given by closed expression involving the $\star$-regularization of Gauss hypergeometric function. We also discuss their basic properties such as their boundedness and we determinate their singular values. Moreover, we describe their compactness and membership in $p…
In this paper, we extend the concept of continuous Bessel wavelet transform in $L^p$-space and derived the Parseval's as well as the inversion formulas. By using Bessel wavelet coefficients we characterized the Besov- Hankel space.
We will prove an analogue of Landau's necessary conditions [Necessary density conditions for sampling and interpolation of certain entire functions, Acta Math. 117 (1967).] for spaces of functions whose Hankel transform is supported in a measurable subset S of the positive semi-axis. As a special case, necessary density conditions for the existence of Fourier-Bessel frames are obtained.
We establish an asymptotic formula for determinants of truncated Wiener-Hopf+Hankel operators with symbol equal to the exponential of a constant times the characteristic function of an interval. This is done by reducing it to the corresponding (known) asymptotics for truncated Toeplitz+Hankel operators. The determinants in question arise in random matrix theory in determining the limiting distribution for the number of eigenvalues in an interval for a scaled Laguerre ensemble of positive Hermitian matrices.
In this article we study the Poisson summation for Hankel transform in the sense of Braverman-Kazhdan-Ngo in the special case of $L$-embedding $ρ: GL_1\rightarrow GL_2$. We view such a summation formula as the generalization of the classical Voronoi summation formula.
We show that all Hankel operators $H$ realized as integral operators with kernels $h(t+s)$ in $L^2 ({\Bbb R}_{+}) $ can be quasi-diagonalized as $H= {\sf L}^* Σ{\sf L} $. Here ${\sf L}$ is the Laplace transform, $Σ$ is the operator of multiplication by a function (distribution) $σ(λ)$, $λ\in {\Bbb R}$. We find a scale of spaces of test functions where ${\sf L} $ acts as an isomorphism. Then ${\sf L}^*$ is an isomorphism of the corresponding spaces of distributions. We show that $h= {\sf L}^* σ$ which yields a one-to-one correspondence between kernels $h(t)$ and sigma-functions $σ(λ)$ of Hankel…
Let H(f)(x)=\int_{(0,infty)^d} f(v) E_{x}(v) dν(v), be the multivariable Hankel transform, where E_{x}(v)=\prod_{k=1}^d (x_k v_k)^{-a_k+1/2} J_{a_k-1/2}(x_k v_k), dν(v)=v^a dv, a=(a_1,...,a_d). We give sufficient conditions on a bounded continuous function m(v) which guarantee that the operator H(m Hf) is bounded on L^p(dν) and of weak-type (1,1), or bounded on the Hardy space H^1((0,infty)^d, dν) in the sense of Coifman-Weiss.
We obtain asymptotics for Toeplitz, Hankel, and Toeplitz+Hankel determinants whose symbols possess Fisher-Hartwig singularities. Details of the proofs will be presented in another publication.
In this paper we establish several relations between the determinants of the following structured matrices: Hankel matrices, symmetric Toeplitz + Hankel matrices and Toeplitz matrices. Using known results for the asymptotic behavior of Toeplitz determinants, these identities are used in order to obtain Fisher-Hartwig type results on the asymptotics of certain skewsymmetric Toeplitz determinants and certain Hankel determinants.
We show that every Hankel operator $H$ is unitarily equivalent to a pseudo-differential operator $A$ of a special structure acting in the space $L^2 ({\Bbb R}) $. As an example, we consider integral operators $H$ in the space $L^2 ({\Bbb R}_{+}) $ with kernels $P (\ln (t+s)) (t+s)^{-1}$ where $P(x)$ is an arbitrary real polynomial of degree $K$. In this case, $A$ is a differential operator of the same order $K$. This allows us to study spectral properties of Hankel operators $H$ with such kernels. In particular, we show that the essential spectrum of $H$ coincides with the whole axis for $K$ o…
We obtain asymptotics in n for the n-dimensional Hankel determinant whose symbol is the Gaussian multiplied by a step-like function. We use Riemann-Hilbert analysis of the related system of orthogonal polynomials to obtain our results.
We extend to multilinear Hankel operators the fact that truncation of bounded Hankel operators is bounded. We prove and use a continuity property of a kind of bilinear Hilbert transforms on product of Lipschitz spaces and Hardy spaces.
A Pick function of $d$ variables is a holomorphic map from $Π^d$ to $Π$, where $Π$ is the upper halfplane. Some Pick functions of one variable have an asymptotic expansion at infinity, a power series $\sum_{n=1}^\infty ρ_n z^{-n}$ with real numbers $ρ_n$ that gives an asymptotic expansion on non-tangential approach regions to infinity. H. Hamburger in 1921 characterized which sequences $\{ρ_n\} $ can occur. We give an extension of Hamburger's results to Pick functions of two variables.
We study the inverse problem for the Hankel operators in the general case. Following the work of Gérard--Grellier, the spectral data is obtained from the pair of Hankel operators $Γ$ and $ΓS$, where $S$ is the shift operator. The theory of complex symmetric operators provides a convenient language for the description of the spectral data. We introduce the abstract spectral data for the general case, and use the dynamical system approach, to reduce the problem to asymptotic stability of some contraction, constructed from the spectral data. The asymptotic stability is usually the hard part of th…
In this note, we study the asymptotics of the determinant $\det(I_N - βH_N)$ for $N$ large, where $H_N$ is the $N\times N$ restriction of a Hankel matrix $H$ with finitely many jump discontinuities in its symbol satisfying $\|H\|\leq 1$. Moreover, we assume $β\in\mathbb C$ with $|β|<1$ and $I_N$ denotes the identity matrix. We determine the first order asymtoptics as $N\to\infty$ of such determinants and show that they exhibit power-like asymptotic behaviour, with exponent depending on the height of the jumps. For example, for the $N \times N$ truncation of the Hilbert matrix $\mathbf{H}$ with…
The purpose of this paper is to compute the asymptotics of determinants of finite sections of operators that are trace class perturbations of Toeplitz operators. For example, we consider the asymptotics in the case where the matrices are of the form $ (a_{i-j} \pm a_{i+j+1-k})_{i,j=0... N-1} $ with $k$ is fixed. We will show that this example as well as some general classes of operators have expansions that are similar to those that appear in the Strong Szegö Limit Theorem. We also obtain exact identitities for some of the determinants that are analogous to the one derived independently by Ger…
In this paper, we study operator-theoretic properties (boundedness and compactness) of Hankel operators on the Fock-sobolev spaces $ \mathscr{F}^{p,m} $ in terms of $ \mathcal{BMO}_r^p $ and $ \mathcal{VMO}_r^p $ spaces, respectively, for a non-negative integers $ m $, $ 1 \leq p < \infty $ and $ r > 0 $. Along the way, we also study Berezin transform of Hankel operators on $ \mathscr{F}^{p,m} $. The results in this article are analogous to Zhu's characterization and Perälä's characterization of bounded and compact Hankel operators on the Bergman spaces of unit disc and the weighted Fock space…
A characterisation is given of bounded embeddings from weighted $L^2$ spaces on bounded intervals into $L^2$ spaces on the half-plane, induced by isomorphisms given by the Laplace transform onto weighted Hardy and Bergman spaces (Zen spaces). As an application necessary and sufficient conditions are given for the boundedness of truncated Hankel and Toeplitz integral operators, including the weighted case.
We review the asymptotic behavior of a class of Toeplitz (as well as related Hankel and Toeplitz + Hankel) determinants which arise in integrable models and other contexts. We discuss Szego, Fisher-Hartwig asymptotics, and how a transition between them is related to the Painleve V equation. Certain Toeplitz and Hankel determinants reduce, in certain double-scaling limits, to Fredholm determinants which appear in the theory of group representations, in random matrices, random permutations and partitions. The connection to Toeplitz determinants helps to evaluate the asymptotics of related Fredho…
We consider diffusive systems, regarded as input/output systems with a kernel given as the Fourier--Borel transform of a measure in the left half-plane. Associated with these are a family of weighted Hankel integral operators, and we provide conditions for them to be bounded, Hilbert--Schmidt or nuclear, thereby generalizing results of Widom, Howland and others.
Hankel operators with anti-holomorphic symbols are studied for a large class of weighted Fock spaces on $\cn$. The weights defining these Hilbert spaces are radial and subject to a mild smoothness condition. In addition, it is assumed that the weights decay at least as fast as the classical Gaussian weight. The main result of the paper says that a Hankel operator on such a Fock space is bounded if and only if the symbol belongs to a certain BMOA space, defined via the Berezin transform. The latter space coincides with a corresponding Bloch space which is defined by means of the Bergman metric.…
In this paper, we study the behavior of the singular values of Hankel operators on weighted Bergman spaces $A^2_{ω_φ}$, where $ω_φ= e^{-φ}$ and $φ$ is a subharmonic function. We consider compact Hankel operators $H_{\overline ϕ}$, with anti-analytic symbols ${\overline ϕ}$, and give estimates of the trace of $h(|H_{\overline ϕ}|)$ for any convex function $h$. This allows us to give asymptotic estimates of the singular values $(s_n(H_{\overline ϕ}))_n$ in terms of decreasing rearrangement of $|ϕ'|/\sqrt{Δφ}$. For the radial weights, we first prove that the critical decay of $(s_n(H_{\overline ϕ…
We prove Nehari's theorem for integral Hankel and Toeplitz operators on simple convex polytopes in several variables. A special case of the theorem, generalizing the boundedness criterion of the Hankel and Toeplitz operators on the Paley-Wiener space, reads as follows. Let $Ξ= (0,1)^d$ be a $d$-dimensional cube, and for a distribution $f$ on $2Ξ$, consider the Hankel operator $$Γ_f (g)(x)=\int_Ξ f(x+y) g(y) \, dy, \quad x \inΞ.$$ Then $Γ_f$ extends to a bounded operator on $L^2(Ξ)$ if and only if there is a bounded function $b$ on $\mathbb{R}^d$ whose Fourier transform coincides with $f$ on $2…
