T-carbon has been proposed as a new carbon allotrope in 2011, which was successfully synthesized in recent experiments. Because of its fluffy structure, several kinds of atoms can be intercalated into T-carbon, making it a versatile candidate in various applications such as hydrogen storage, perovskite solar cells, lithium ion batteries, thermoelectrics, photocatalyst, etc. Here we show that superconductivity can appear in Na-doped T-carbon with superconducting transition temperature Tc of 11 K at ambient pressure, and Tc can be enhanced to 19 K under pressure of 14 GPa, which results from an enhancement of the electron-phonon coupling due to the shift of the phonon spectral weight to lower frequencies with the increase of pressure. The calculations on specific heat and electrical and thermal conductivities show that the normal state of the Na-doped T-carbon superconductor reveals a non-Fermi liquid behavior. The prediction of superconductivity in Na-doped T-carbon would spur great interest both experimentally and theoretically to explore novel carbon-based superconductors.
Superconductivity with zero resistance transition temperature (Tc) up to 8.4 K and 8.3 K can be obtained by doping cobalt and sodium in alfa-FeSe with the nominal composition of Fe0.92Co0.08Se and Na0.1FeSe, respectively. The electrical resistivity and AC magnetic susceptibility of the prepared samples, measured with physical property measurement system (PPMS), unambiguously consistent with each other to indicate that the samples are superconductive. The respective doping mechanisms for cobalt and sodium into the parent alfa-FeSe are the Fe-site substitution and the interlayer insertion. It is…

For reasonable parameters a hole bound to a Na^{+} acceptor in Ca_{2-x}Na_{x}CuO_{2}Cl_{2} has a doubly degenerate ground state whose components can be represented as states with even (odd) reflection symmetry around the x(y) -axes. The conductance pattern for one state is anisotropic as the tip of a tunneling microscope scans above the Cu-O-Cu bonds along the x(y)-axes. This anisotropy is pronounced at lower voltages but is reduced at higher voltages. Qualitative agreement with recent experiments leads us to propose this effect as an explanation of the broken local rotational symmetry.
Superconductivity at about 15.6 K was achieved in Tb_{1-x}Ca_xFeAsO by partially substituting Tb^{3+} with Ca^{2+} in the nominal doping region x = 0.40 \sim 0.50. A detailed investigation was carried out in a typical sample with doping level of x = 0.44. The upper critical field of this sample was estimated to be 77 Tesla from the magnetic field dependent resistivity data. The domination of hole-like charge carriers in the low-temperature region was confirmed by Hall effect measurements. The comparison between the calcium-doped sample Pr_{1-x}Ca_xFeAsO (non-superconductive) and the Strontium-…
Within the framework of kinetic-energy-driven superconductivity, the asymmetric doping dependence of superconductivity between the hole- and electron-doped triangular-lattice superconductors has been studied. It is shown that although the superconducting transition temperature has a dome-shaped doping dependence for both the hole- and electron-doped triangular-lattice superconductors, superconductivity appears over a wide doping of range in the hole-doped case, while it only exists in a narrow range of the doping in the electron-doped side. Moreover, the maximum superconducting transition temp…
The validity of some experimental data on which the paper was based have been questioned by the report of the Committee of the Bell Labs released on September 2002.
High temperature superconductivity in K-doped 1,2:8,9-dibenzenopentacene (C30H18) has been recently reported [1] with Tc = 33 K, the highest among organic superconductors at ambient pressure. Here we report on our search for superconductivity in K, Ba, and Ca-doped hydrocarbon organic materials. We find that Ba-anthracene (C14H10) and K-Picene (C22H14) show features characteristics of superconducting state, although very weak. The data suggests that Ba-anthracene might be a new organic superconductor with Tc ~ 35 K.
The recent reports on 203 K superconductivity in compressed hydrogen sulfide, H$_3$S, has attracted great interest in sulfur-hydrogen system under high pressure. Here, we investigated the superconductivity of P-doped and Cl-doped H$_3$S using the first-principles calculations based on the supercell method, which gives more reliable results on the superconductivity in doped systems than the calculations based on the virtual crystal approximation reported earlier. The superconducting critical temperature is increased from 189 to 212 K at 200 GPa in a cubic $Im\bar{3}m$ phase by the 6.25 % P dopi…
In 2004 the discovery of superconductivity in heavily boron-doped diamond (C:B) led to an increasing interest in the superconducting phases of wide-gap semiconductors. Subsequently superconductivity was found in heavily boron-doped cubic silicon (Si:B) and recently in the stochiometric ''mixture'' of heavily boron-doped silicon carbide (SiC:B). The latter system surprisingly exhibits type-I superconductivity in contrast to the type-II superconductors C:B and Si:B. Here we will focus on the specific heat of two different superconducting samples of boron-doped SiC. One of them contains cubic and…
This work presents the emergence of superconductivity in Ir - doped Weyl semimetal T$_d$ - MoTe$_{2}$ with broken inversion symmetry. Chiral anomaly induced planar Hall effect and anisotropic magneto-resistance confirm the topological semimetallic nature of Mo$_{1-x}$Ir$_{x}$Te$_{2}$. Observation of weak anisotropic, moderately coupled type-II superconductivity in T$_d$ -Mo$_{1-x}$Ir$_{x}$Te$_{2}$ makes it a promising candidate for topological superconductor.
Scanning tunneling spectroscopies are performed below 100~mK on nano-crystalline boron-doped diamond films characterized by Transmission Electron Microscopy and transport measurements. We demonstrate a strong correlation between the local superconductivity strength and the granular structure of the films. The study of the spectral shape, amplitude and temperature dependence of the superconductivity gap enables us to differentiate intrinsically superconducting grains that follow the BCS model, from grains showing a different behavior involving the superconducting proximity effect.
Sulfur-doped SnSe single crystal was successfully synthesized using a melt and slow-cooling method. The chemical composition and valence state of the obtained sample were analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The pressure range of a diamond anvil cell with boron-doped diamond electrodes was upgraded to 104 GPa using nano-polycrystalline diamond anvil to investigate a pressure effect for the sample. Electrical resistivity measurements of sulfur-doped SnSe single crystal showed the insulator-metal-superconductor transition by applying high pressure up to 75.9 GPa.
Using first-principles calculations, we examine the transition temperature $T_{\rm c}$ of superconductivity in sodium tungsten bronze ( Na$_x$WO$_3$, where $x$ is equal to or less than unity ). Although $T_{\rm c}$ is relatively low $T_{\rm c}( <\sim 3 {\rm K})$, it is interesting that its characteristic exponential dependence on $x$ has been experimentally observed at $\sim 0.2 < x < \sim 0.4$. On the basis of the McMillan equation for $T_{\rm c}$ including the effect of plasmons, we succeed in reproducing the absolute values of $T_{\rm c}$ and its $x$ dependence. We also find that the plasmo…
The discoveries of superconductivity in heavily boron-doped diamond (C:B) in 2004 and silicon (Si:B) in 2006 renew the interest in the superconducting state of semiconductors. Charge-carrier doping of wide-gap semiconductors leads to a metallic phase from which upon further doping superconductivity can emerge. Recently, we discovered superconductivity in a closely related system: heavily-boron doped silicon carbide (SiC:B). The sample used for that study consists of cubic and hexagonal SiC phase fractions and hence this lead to the question which of them participates in the superconductivity. …
We report on the emergence of two disconnected superconducting domes in alkali-metal potassium (K)-doped FeSe ultra-thin films grown on graphitized SiC(0001). The superconductivity exhibits hypersensitivity to K dosage in the lower-Tc dome, whereas in the heavily electron-doped higher-Tc dome it becomes spatially homogeneous and robust against disorder, supportive of a conventional Cooper-pairing mechanism. Furthermore, the heavily K-doped multilayer FeSe films all reveal a large superconducting gap of ~ 14 meV, irrespective of film thickness, verifying the higher-Tc superconductivity only in …
The following letter, titled "Electron-Superconductivity in Oxides?", was submitted to Nature [Scientific Correspondence Section] on March 2, 1989, shortly after the experimental discovery of electron-doped cuprates announced in Nature on January 26, 1989. It predicted the findings recently reported in arXiv:1810.04634 by Yangmu Li, W. Tabis, Y. Tang, G. Yu, J. Jaroszynski, N. Barisic and M. Greven that "clearly point to hole-pocket-driven superconductivity in these nominally electron-doped materials", "reveal hole superconductivity in the electron-doped high-temperature superconductors" "afte…
We study within a first-principle approach the band structure, vibrational modes and electron-phonon coupling in boron, aluminum and phosphorus doped silicon in the diamond phase. Our results provide evidences that the recently discovered superconducting transition in boron doped cubic silicon can be explained within a standard phonon-mediated mechanism. The importance of lattice compression and dopant related stretching modes are emphasized. We find that T$_C$ can be increased by one order of magnitude by adopting aluminum doping instead of boron.
We have synthesized the single-phase polycrystalline samples of Sn1-xAgxTe, Ag-doped topological crystalline insulator SnTe, with a range of x = 0-0.5 using a high-pressure synthesis method. The crystal structure of Sn1-xAgxTe at room temperature is a cubic NaCl-type structure, which does not vary upon Ag substitution. Bulk superconductivity with a transition temperature of 2.4 K was observed for x = 0.15-0.25, and the optimal Ag content was x = 0.2. The Sn1-xAgxTe superconducting phase will be useful for understanding the superconductivity nature and mechanisms of the carrier-doped SnTe syste…
Using inhomogeneous Bogoliubov-de Gennes formalism we study superconducting properties of bundles of single wall carbon nanotubes, consisting of a mixture of metallic and semiconducting nanotubes, having different critical transition temperatures. We investigate how the averaged superconducting order parameter and the critical transition temperature depend on the fraction of semiconducting carbon nanotubes in the bundle.
A recent experiment on Nb-doped Bi2Se3 showed that zero field magnetization appears below the superconducting transition temperature. This gives evidence that the superconducting state breaks time-reversal symmetry spontaneously and possibly be in the chiral topological phase. This is in sharp contrast to the Cu-doped case which is possibly in the nematic phase and breaks rotational symmetry spontaneously. By deriving the free energy of the system from a microscopic model, we show that the magnetic moments of the Nb atoms can be polarized by the chiral Cooper pairs and enlarge the phase space …
We report the discovery of superconductivity at about 4.3 K in the samarium doped 1,3,5-triphenylbenzene. By using a solid state reaction method, the samarium doped 1,3,5-triphenylbenzene samples are successfully synthesized. These samples are characterized by magnetization, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope(SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) measurements. The X-ray diffractions reveal that the sample crystallizes in a space group of $P2/m$. The magnetization measurements reveal a superconducting transition at about 4.3 K. However, the superconducting shielding f…
The theory of hole superconductivity proposes that there is a single mechanism of superconductivity that applies to all superconducting materials. This paper discusses several material families where superconductivity occurs and how they can be understood within this theory. Materials discussed include the elements, transition metal alloys, high $T_c$ cuprates both hole-doped and electron-doped, $MgB_2$, iron pnictides, doped semiconductors, and elements under high pressure.
We investigated systemically YBa2Cu3-x(Fe, Co, Al, Zn)xO7-δ (x=0.0\sim0.5) cuprates through the XRD, the test of superconductivity, oxygen contents, positron annihilation technology and simulated calculations. The experimental results and theoretic calculations support such a conclusion that the Tc does not depend directly on the density of valence electron in the samples. Moreover, whether or not it may imply some correlations between Fe-oxide superconductors and cuprates that Fe doped Y123 samples show some unique characteristics.
Doping bismuth selenide (Bi2Se3) with elements such as copper and strontium (Sr) can induce superconductivity, making the doped materials interesting candidates to explore potential topological superconducting behaviors. It was thought that the superconductivity of doped Bi2Se3 was induced by dopant atoms intercalated in van der Waals gaps. However, several experiments have shown that the intercalation of dopant atoms may not necessarily make doped Bi2Se3 superconducting. Thus, the structural origin of superconductivity in doped Bi2Se3 remains an open question. Herein, we combined material syn…
We have calculated the superconducting critical temperature $T_c$ of hole-doped delafossite CuAlO$_2$ based on the first-principles calculations. According our calculation, $0.2\sim0.3$ hole-doped CuAlO$_2$ can become a phonon-mediated high-$T_c$ superconductor with $T_c\sim50$ K. In the hole-doped CuAlO$_2$, the A$_1$L$_1$ phonon mode that stretches O-Cu-O dumbbell has a strong electron-phonon interaction with electrons of the flat band in Cu 3d$_{3z^2-r^2}$ and the O 2p$_z$ anti-bonding $π$-band.
Using a new two-step synthesis method - ultrasound treatment and low temperature annealing, we explore superconductivity in potassium-doped triphenylbismuth, which is composed of one bismuth atom and three phenyl rings. The combination of dc and ac magnetic measurements reveals that one hundred percent of synthesized samples exhibit superconductivity at 3.5 K and/or 7.2 K at ambient pressure. The magnetization hysteresis loops provide a strong evidence of type-II superconductor, with the upper critical magnetic field up to 1.0 Tesla. Both calculated electronic structure and measured Raman spec…
Polycrystalline Sr1-xNdxFeAsF samples were prepared at various Nd-doping levels using both a stoichiometric mixture of the starting materials and in slight excess amounts of FeAs. Susceptibility and resistivity of the samples were studied down to 4 K revealing a probable coexistence of superconductivity and a magnetic ordering. Temperature dependence of resistivity for all the Nd-doped samples shows the presence of a transition below 15 K most likely originating from the magnetic ordering of Nd moments, while the spin-density-wave anomaly at 175 K survives up to 0.35 Nd-doping. Superconductivi…
Following our previous investigations on superconductivity in amorphous carbon (aC) based systems; we have prepared thin composite aC-W films using electron-beam induced deposition. The films did not show any sign for superconductivity above 5 K. However, local, non-percolative, superconductivity emerged at Tc = 34.4 K after treatment with sulfur at 250 C for 24 hours. The superconducting features in the magnetization curves were by far sharper compared to our previous results, and the shielding fraction increased by about an order of magnitude. Our data suggest that pairing and localized supe…
Superconductivity in the new polymerized C60 fullerite clathrate doped with simple metals was investigated through density functional theory methods. The phonon dispersion curves were systematically computed for the clathrate structures containing the guest dopants (Li, Na, K, Be, Mg, Ca, Al, Ga, Ge) in one of the two distinct cages, fullerene-like C60 and sodalite-like C24, exhibited by this structure. Only four of these structures, Li@C24, Na@C24, Ga@C24 and Be@C60, are dynamically stable in the harmonic approximation. They all show superconducting behavior, although their critical temperatu…
We study the temperature dependence of nuclear magnetic relaxation (NMR) rates to detect a sign of topological superconductivity in doped topological insulators, such as $M$($=$Cu,Nb,Sr)$_{x}$Bi$_{2}$Se$_{3}$ and Sn$_{1-x}$In$_{x}$Te. The Hebel-Slichter coherence effect below a critical temperature Tc depends on the superconducting states predicted by a minimal model of doped topological insulators. In a nodal anisotropic topological state similar to the ABM-phase in $^{3}$He, the NMR rate has a conventional $s$-wave like coherence peak below Tc. In contrast, in a fully-gapped isotropic topolo…
Adsorption of one-third monolayer of Sn on an atomically-clean Si(111) substrate produces a two-dimensional triangular adatom lattice with one unpaired electron per site. This dilute adatom reconstruction is an antiferromagnetic Mott insulator; however, the system can be modulation-doped and metallized using heavily-doped p-type Si(111) substrates. Here, we show that the hole-doped dilute adatom layer on a degenerately doped p-type Si(111) wafer is superconducting with a critical temperature of 4.7 +- 0.3 K. While a phonon-mediated coupling scenario would be consistent with the observed TC, Mo…
Nb doped SrTiO3, the first discovered two-gap superconductor, is shown to be the most unconventional one of the known multiband superconductors, since the smaller of the two superconducting gaps follows a non BCS temperature dependence. Such a behavior stems from two cooperating effects: an extreme anisotropy in the frequency dependent interactions, involving one very soft mode and an almost vanishing interband interaction. In contrast to all other multiband superconductors, the temperature dependence of the superfluid density of Nb doped SrTiO3 is predicted to exhibit an inflection point clos…
Here we report the synthesis and basic characterization of SmFe1-xCoxAsO (x=0.10, 0.15). The parent compound SmFeAsO itself is not superconducting but shows an antiferromagnetic order near 150 K, which must be suppressed by doping before superconductivity emerges. With Co-doping in the FeAs planes, antiferromagnetic order is destroyed and superconductivity occurs at 15 K. Similar to LaFe1-xCoxAsO, the SmFe1-xCoxAsO system appears to tolerate considerable disorder in the FeAs planes. This result is important, which indicates difference between cuprare superconductors and the iron-based arsenide…
We report both 23Na and 75As NMR studies on hole-doped Ca1-xNaxFe2As2 superconducting single crystals (x\approx 0.67) with Tc =32 K. Singlet superconductivity is suggested by a sharp drop of the Knight shift 75K below Tc. The spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T1 does not show the Slichter-Hebel coherence peak, which suggests an unconventional pairing. The penetration depth is estimated to be 0.24 μm at T=2 K. 1/75T1T shows an anisotropic behavior and a prominent low-temperature upturn, which indicates strong low-energy antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations and supports a magnetic origin of supercon…
Superconductivity is found in 50% K-doped EuFe2As2 sample below 33 K. Our results of electrical resistivity, magnetic susceptibility and 57Fe and 151Eu Mossbauer spectroscopy provide clear evidence that the ordering of the Fe moments observed at 190 K in undoped EuFe2As2 is completely suppressed in our 50% K doped sample, thus there is no coexistence between the Fe magnetic order and the superconducting state. However, short range ordering of the Eu moments is coexisting with the superconducting state below 15 K. A bump in the susceptibility well below Tc as well as a slight broadening of the …
We use thermodynamic and neutron scattering measurements to study the effect of oxygen annealing on the superconductivity and magnetism in Pr$_{0.88}$LaCe$_{0.12}$CuO$_{4-δ}$. Although the transition temperature $T_c$ measured by susceptibility and superconducting coherence length increase smoothly with gradual oxygen removal from the annealing process, bulk superconductivity, marked by a specific heat anomaly at $T_c$ and the presence of a neutron magnetic resonance, only appears abruptly when $T_c$ is close to the largest value. These results suggest that the effect of oxygen annealing must …
We have systematically investigated the effect of oxygen nonstoichiometry in a nominally undoped superconductor T'-(La,Y)2CuO4+y. In the experiments, the reduction condition was changed after the sample growth by MBE. The superconductivity is very sensitive to the reduction condition. With systematically increasingly reduced atmospheres, resistivity shows a continuous drop and no discontinuity is observed even until the appearance of superconductivity. The absence of the highly insulating state expected for Mott insulators around y ~ 0 suggests that T'-(La,Y)2CuO4 has intrinsic carriers. The r…
Insight into why superconductivity in pristine and doped monolayer graphene seems strongly suppressed has been central for the recent years' various creative approaches to realize superconductivity in graphene and graphene-like systems. We provide further insight by studying electron-phonon coupling and superconductivity in doped monolayer graphene and hexagonal boron nitride based on intrinsic phonon modes. Solving the graphene gap equation using a detailed model for the effective attraction based on electron tight binding and phonon force constant models, the various system parameters can be…
Recent experiments on Nb-doped SrTiO$_3$ have shown that the superconducting energy gap to the transition temperature ratio maintains the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) value throughout its superconducting dome. Motivated by these and related studies, we show that the Cooper pairing mediated by a single soft transverse-optical phonon is the most natural mechanism for such a superconducting dome given experimental constraints, and present the microscopic theory for this pairing mechanism. Furthermore, we show that this mechanism is consistent with the $T^2$ resistivity in the normal state. Las…
Thin film junctions and bilayers of the doped topological insulator $\rm Bi_2Se_3$ and the s-wave superconductor NbN were found to exhibit conductance spectra with prominent zero bias and coherence peaks. Various tunneling models with different pair potentials have failed to fit our data, except for the triplet $p_x+ip_y$ pair potential, which breaks time reversal symmetry, but yielded reasonably good fits. This provides evidence for proximity induced triplet superconductivity in the $\rm Bi_2Se_3$ layer near the interface with the NbN film.
Graphene is the only member of the carbon family from zero- to three-dimensional materials for which superconductivity has not been observed yet. At this time, it is not clear whether the quest for superconducting graphene is hindered by technical challenges, or else by the fluctuation of the order parameter in two dimensions. In this area, ab initio calculations are useful to guide experimental efforts by narrowing down the search space. In this spirit, we investigate from first principles the possibility of inducing superconductivity in doped graphene using the fully anisotropic Migdal-Elias…
Here we report the superconductivity in the iron-based oxyarsenide Sm[O1-xFx]FeAs, with the onset resistivity transition temperature at 55.0 K and Meissner transition at 54.6 K. This compound has the same crystal structure as LaOFeAs with shrunk crystal lattices, and becomes the superconductor with the highest critical temperature among all materials besides copper oxides.
K$_3$-picene is a superconducting molecular crystal with critical temperature T$_c=7$K or 18K, depending on preparation conditions. Using density functional theory we show that electron-phonon interaction accounts for T$_c ~ 3-8$ K. The average electron-phonon coupling, calculated by including the phonon energy scale in the electron-phonon scattering, is $λ=0.73$ and $ω_{\rm log}=18.0\,$ meV. Intercalant and intermolecular phonon-modes contribute substantially (40%) to $λ$ as also shown by the isotope exponents of potassium (0.19) and carbon (0.31). The relevance of these modes makes supercond…
Ca(Fe$_{1-x}$Rh$_x$)$_2$As$_2$ undergoes successive phase transitions with increasing Rh doping in the $T$ $=$ 0 limit. The antiferromagnetic-metal phase with orthorhombic structure at 0.00 $\le$ $x$ $\le$ 0.020 is driven to a superconducting phase with uncollapsed-tetragonal (ucT) structure at 0.020 $\le$ $x$ $\le$ 0.024; a non-superconducting collapsed-tetragonal (cT) phase takes over at $x$ $\geq$ 0.024. The breakdown of Fermi-liquid transport is observed in the ucT phase above $T_{\rm c}$. In the adjacent cT phase, Fermi-liquid transport is restored along with a disappearance of supercondu…
Two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides entwine interaction, spin-orbit coupling, and topology. Hole-doped systems lack spin degeneracy: states are indexed with spin and valley specificity. This unique structure offers new possibilities for correlated phases and phenomena. We realize an unconventional superconducting pairing phase which is an equal mixture of a spin singlet and the $m = 0$ spin triplet. It is stable against large in-plane magnetic fields, and its topology allows quasiparticle excitations of net nonzero Berry curvature via pair-breaking circularly polarized light.
Magnetic measurements have been carried out in the superconducting and normal states of the optimally doped nonmagnetic bismuthate superconductor Ba0.63K0.37BiO3. The magnetic data along with previous muSR, resistivity, and tunneling data consistently show that there is a large polaronic enhancement in the density of states and effective electron-phonon coupling constant. The first-principle calculation within the density-functional theory indicates a small electron-phonon coupling constant of about 0.3-0.4, which can only lead to about 1 K superconductivity within the conventional phonon-medi…
Stanene, composed of tin atoms arranged in a single layer, is the tin analogue of graphene and past studies predicted it to be a topological insulator. An energy band gap (of $\sim 0.1$~eV) was obtained in previous calculations for the buckled honeycomb structure of stanene and, thus, phonon-mediated superconductivity in this material is ruled out. In this work we investigated, from first principles calculations within density functional theory (DFT), the possibility of producing phonon-mediated superconductivity in stanene by doping the material. It was found that doping with calcium (lithium…
Applying an external pressure to indirectly electron-doped 122-type (Ba1-xLax)Fe2As2 epitaxial films enhances the superconducting critical temperature (Tc) up to 30.3 K. Different from the other family compounds, the Tc is enhanced not only in the under-doped region but also in the optimally doped and over-doped regions. Narrowing of the superconducting transition width and an increase in the carrier density take place simultaneously in the whole doping region, except at the heavily over-doped limit. This characteristic is unique to and observed only in (Ba1-xLax)Fe2As2, in which the La doping…
We investigate properties of BaFe2As2 (122) single crystals upon gold doping, which is the transition metal with the highest atomic weight. The Au substitution into the FeAs-planes of 122 crystal structure (Au-122) is only possible up to a small amount of ~3%. We find that 5d is more effective in reducing magnetism in 122 than its counter 3d Cu, and this relates to superconductivity. We provide evidence of short-range magnetic fluctuations and local-lattice inhomogeneities that may prevent strong percolative superconductivity in Ba(Fe1-xAux)2As2.
We report a high-pressure single crystal study of the topological superconductor Cu$_x$Bi$_2$Se$_3$. Resistivity measurements under pressure show superconductivity is depressed smoothly. At the same time the metallic behavior is gradually lost. The upper critical field data $B_{c2}(T)$ under pressure collapse onto a universal curve. The absence of Pauli limiting and the comparison of $B_{c2}(T)$ to a polar state function point to spin-triplet superconductivity, but an anisotropic spin-singlet state cannot be discarded completely.
High-critical-temperature (Tc) superconductivity at 48 K is reported for hydrogen-doped SmFeAsO epitaxial films on MgO single-crystal substrates. The key processes are pulsed laser deposition to grow undoped SmFeAsO epitaxial films and subsequent topotactic chemical reaction using CaH2 powders under evacuated silica-glass ampule atmosphere. Based on this post-deposition thermal annealing treatment that we have developed, a maximum hydrogen concentration x = ~0.35 was realized in SmFeAs(O1-xHx). Disordered hydrogen-substitution at O sites is experimentally confirmed directly by atomic-scale mic…
The discoveries of superconductivity in heavily boron-doped diamond, silicon and silicon carbide renewed the interest in the ground states of charge-carrier doped wide-gap semiconductors. Recently, aluminium doping in silicon carbide successfully yielded a metallic phase from which at high aluminium concentrations superconductivity emerges. Here, we present a specific-heat study on superconducting aluminium-doped silicon carbide. We observe a clear jump anomaly at the superconducting transition temperature 1.5 K indicating that aluminium-doped silicon carbide is a bulk superconductor. An analy…
From our powder x ray diffraction pattern, electrical transport and magnetic studies we report the effect of isovalent Se substitution at S sites in the newly discovered systems EuSr2Bi2S4F4 and Eu2SrBi2S4F4. We have synthesized two new variants of 3244 type superconductor with Eu replaced by Sr which is reported elsewhere [Z. Haque et. al.]. We observe superconductivity at Tc 2.9 K (resistivity) and 2.3 K (susceptibility) in EuSr2Bi2S4-xSexF4 series for x = 2. In the other series Eu2SrBi2S4-xSexF4, two materials (x= 1.5; Tc = 2.6 K and x = 2; Tc = 2.75 K) exhibit superconductivity.
Doped Bi$_2$Se$_3$ is proposed to be a nematic superconductor originating from unusual inter-orbital pairing. We classify all induced superconducting pair correlations in Bi$_2$Se$_3$ and discover that intra-orbital odd-frequency pairing dominates over a significant range of frequencies. Moreover, we explore the contributions of even- and odd-frequency pairing to the Meissner effect, including separating intra- and inter-band processes in the response function. Contrary to expectations, and due to inter-band contributions, we find a diamagnetic odd-frequency Meissner effect.
The magnetic structure of the Eu2+ moments in the superconducting EuFe2(As1-xPx)2 sample with x = 0.15 has been determined using element specific x-ray resonant magnetic scattering. Combining magnetic, thermodynamic and scattering measurements, we conclude that the long range ferromagnetic order of the Eu2+ moments aligned primarily along the c axis coexists with the bulk superconductivity at zero field. At an applied magnetic field >= 0.6 T, superconductivity still coexists with the ferromagnetic Eu2+ moments which are polarized along the field direction. We propose a spontaneous vortex state…
We report a systematic study on the effect of partial substitution of Sc$^{3+}$ by Ti$^{4+}$ in Sr$_{2}$ScFeAsO$_{3}$, Ca$_{2}$ScFeAsO$_{3}$ and Sr$_{3}$Sc$_{2}$Fe$_{2}$As$_{2}$O$_{5}$ on their electrical properties. High level of doping results in an increased carrier concentration and leads to the appearance of superconductivity with the onset of T$_{c}$ up to 45 K.
We prepare single layer potassium-doped iron selenide (110) film by molecular beam expitaxy. Such a single layer film can be viewed as a two-dimensional system composed of weakly coupled two-leg iron ladders. Scanning tunneling spectroscopy reveals that superconductivity is developed in this two-leg ladder system. The superconducting gap is similar to that of the multi-layer films. However, the Fermi surface topology given by first-principles calculation is remarkably different from that of the bulk materials. Our results suggest that superconducting pairing is very short-ranged or takes place…
We report a breakdown of the scaling of the antiferromagnetic transition temperature T_N on chemical doping for Pt-doped CaFe2As2. The substitution of Pt is ineffective in the reduction of antiferromagnetic ordering as well as in inducing superconductivity in Ca(Fe1-xPtx)2As2. The Pt-doped CaFe2As2 that does not exhibit superconductivity will, however, provide us an ideal opportunity to elucidate the role of chemical doping in the occurrence of superconductivity in iron-based materials.
Superconductivity in the electric field-effect doped infinite layer compound CaCuO2 is considered. It is argued that in the superconducting CuO2 layer, next to the insulating Al2O3 overlayer, the coordination of the Cu2+ ions by oxygens is pyramidal rather than square planar. This view stems from existing NEXAFS and the analysis of HRETM results, as well as chemical considerations, and is discussed mainly for the hole doped but also the electron doped region of the phase diagramm.
