We study the scalar $ϕ^3$ theory above six dimensions. The beta function $β(g)=-εg-\frac{3}{4}g^3$ in $d=6-2ε$ dimensions has a UV fixed point when $ε<0$. Like the $O(N)$ vector models above four dimensions, such a fixed point observed perturbatively in fact corresponds to a pair of complex CFTs separated by a branch cut. Using both the numerical bootstrap method and Gliozzi's fusion rule truncation method, we argue that the fixed points of the $ϕ^3$ theory above six dimensions exist.
BPS surface observables in six-dimensional (2,0) theory

This note supplements an earlier paper on conformal field theories. There it was shown how to construct tensor, spinor, and spinor-tensor primary fields in four dimensions from their counterparts in six dimensions, where conformal transformations act simply as SO(4,2) Lorentz transformations. Here we show how to constrain fields in six dimensions so that the corresponding primary fields in four dimensions transform according to irreducible representations of the four-dimensional Lorentz group, even when the irreducibility conditions on these representations involve the four-component Levi-Civi…
We construct a class of nonabelian superconformal (1,0) hypermultiplet theories in six dimensions by introducing an abelian auxiliary field. The gauge fields of this class of theories are non-dynamical, and this class of theories can be viewed as Chern-Simons-matter theories in 6D.
We obtain a three-parameter family of massive N=1 supergravities in three dimensions from the 3-sphere reduction of an off-shell N=(1,0) six-dimensional Poincare supergravity that includes a curvature squared invariant. The three-dimensional theory contains an off-shell supergravity multiplet and an on-shell scalar matter multiplet. We then generalise this in three dimensions to an eight-parameter family of supergravities. We also find a duality relationship between the six-dimensional theory and the N=(1,0) six-dimensional theory obtained through a T^4 reduction of the heterotic string effect…
We investigate 4D dS solutions with co-dimension two branes and finite 4D Planck mass in six dimensions. We present the conditions under which six-dimensional compactifications with holomorphic axion-dilaton field or models with pure gravity with local sources can yield 4D dS solutions. Different classes of solutions are specified by a holomorphic function describing different embeddings of multiple conical branes. Depending on the local singularities of this holomorphic function and the topology of the compact dimension one has to introduce D3-branes creating a deficit angle equal to πand/or …
We present a simple method which simplifies the evaluation of the on-shell multiple box diagrams reducing them to triangle type ones. For the $L$-loop diagram one gets the expression in terms of Feynman parameters with $2L$-fold integration. As examples we consider the 2 and 3 loops cases, the numerical integration up to six loops is also presented. The method is valid in six dimensions where neither UV not IR divergences appear.
We review recent progress in the construction and classification of six-dimensional (1,0) superconformal models with non-abelian tensor fields. Here we solve the generalized Jacobi identities which are required for consistency of the non-abelian vector/tensor gauge system and we present a large class of explicit examples.
We describe a compactification of the six-dimensional (2,0) theory on a four-sphere which gives rise to a two-dimensional Toda theory at long distances. This construction realizes chiral Toda fields as edge modes trapped near the poles of the sphere. We relate our setup to compactifications of the (2,0) theory on the five and six-sphere. In this way, we explain a connection between half-BPS operators of the (2,0) theory and two-dimensional W-algebras, and derive an equality between their conformal anomalies. As we explain, all such relationships between the six-dimensional (2,0) theory and Tod…
We compute the Konishi anomalous dimension perturbatively up to six loop using the finite set of functional equations derived recently by Gromov, Kazakov, Leurent and Volin. The recursive procedure can be in principle extended to higher loops, the only obstacle being the complexity of the computation.
We study correlation functions in five-dimensional non-Lorentzian theories with an $SU(1,3)$ conformal symmetry. Examples of such theories have recently been obtained as $Ω$-deformed Yang-Mills Lagrangians arising from a null reduction of six-dimensional superconformal field theories on a conformally compactified Minkowski space. The correlators exhibit a rich structure with many novel properties compared to conventional correlators in Lorentzian conformal field theories. Moreover, identifying the instanton number with the Fourier mode number of the dimensional reduction offers a hope to formu…
A spherically symmetric monopole solution is found in SO(5) gauge theory with Higgs scalar fields in the vector representation in six-dimensional Minkowski spacetime. The action of the Yang-Mills fields is quartic in field strengths. The solution saturates the Bogomolny bound and is stable.
We compute the heat kernel for the Laplacians of symmetric transverse traceless fields of arbitrary spin on the $AdS$ background in even number of dimensions using the group theoretic approach introduced in \cite{Gopakumar:2011qs} and apply it on the partition function of six dimensional conformal gravity. The obtained partition function consists of the Einstein gravity, conformal ghost and two modes that contain mass.
We analyse the trapping of eigenspinors of the charge conjugation operator with dual helicity (Elko), in thin and thick string-like models with codimension-2. Elko spinor fields describe mass dimension one fermions in four dimensions (and, correspondingly, mass dimension two fermions in six dimensions), that represent natural dark matter prime candidates. This dark spinor has many applications, from particle physics to cosmology. On the other hand, six-dimensional brane-world models have, among other prominent features, the spontaneous confinement of free spin 1 fields and a mechanism that exp…
The a-function is a proposed quantity defined in even dimensions which has a monotonic behaviour along RG flows, related to the beta-functions via a gradient flow equation. We study the a-function for a general scalar theory in six dimensions, using the beta-functions up to three-loop order for both the MSbar and MOM schemes (the latter presented here for the first time at three loops).
We give a supersymmetric extension to the six-dimensional Penrose transform and give an integral formula for the on-shell (0, 2) supermultiplet. The relationship between super fields on space-time and twistor space is clarified and the space-time superfield constraint equations are derived from the geometry of supertwistor space. We also explain the extension to more general (0,n) supermultiplets and give twistor actions for these theories.
We investigate the structure of smooth and horizonless microstate geometries in six dimensions, in the spirit of the five-dimensional analysis of Gibbons and Warner [arXiv:1305.0957]. In six dimensions, which is the natural setting for horizonless geometries with the charges of the D1-D5-P black hole, the natural black objects are strings and there are no Chern-Simons terms for the tensor gauge fields. However, we still find that the same reasoning applies: in absence of horizons, there can be no smooth stationary solutions without non-trivial topology. We use topological arguments to describe…
$SO(11)$ gauge-Higgs grand unification is formulated in the six-dimensional hybrid warped space in which the fifth and sixth dimensions play as the electroweak and grand-unification dimensions. Fermions are introduced in ${\bf 32}$, ${\bf 11}$ and ${\bf 1}$ of $SO(11)$. Small neutrino masses naturally emerge as a result of a new seesaw mechanism in the gauge-Higgs unification which is characterized by a $3 \times 3$ mass matrix.
We combine the unitarity method with the six-dimensional helicity formalism of Cheung and O'Connell to construct loop-level scattering amplitudes. As a first example, we construct dimensionally regularized QCD one-loop four-point amplitudes. As a nontrivial multiloop example, we confirm that the recently constructed four-loop four-point amplitude of N=4 super-Yang-Mills theory, including nonplanar contributions, is valid for dimensions less than or equal to six. We comment on the connection of our approach to the recently discussed Higgs infrared regulator and on dual conformal properties in s…
We present the complete set of universal one-loop beta functions of cubic gravity in six dimensions. The system admits over 8000 distinct fixed points, of which more than 200 are real. Some of them might be relevant for the quantisation of gravity in the physical case of four dimensions.
The local supertwistor formalism, which involves a superconformal connection acting on the bundle of such objects over superspace, is used to investigate superconformal geometry in six dimensions. The geometry corresponding to (1, 0) and (2, 0) off-shell conformal supergravity multiplets, as well the associated finite super-Weyl transformations, are derived.
We propose a six-dimensional regularization of four dimensional chiral gauge theories. We consider a massive Dirac fermion in six dimensions with two different operators having domain-wall profiles in the fifth and the sixth directions, respectively. A Weyl fermion appears as a localized mode at the junction of the two domain-walls. In our formulation, the Stora-Zumino chain of the anomaly descent equations, starting from the axial $U(1)$ anomaly in six-dimensions to the gauge anomaly in four-dimensions, is naturally embedded. Moreover, a similar inflow of the global anomalies is found. The an…
Geometric Langlands duality is usually formulated as a statement about Riemann surfaces, but it can be naturally understood as a consequence of electric-magnetic duality of four-dimensional gauge theory. This duality in turn is naturally understood as a consequence of the existence of a certain exotic supersymmetric conformal field theory in six dimensions. The same six-dimensional theory also gives a useful framework for understanding some recent mathematical results involving a counterpart of geometric Langlands duality for complex surfaces. (This article is based on a lecture at the Raoul B…
The result for the six-loop anomalous dimension of twist-three operators in the planar N=4 SYM theory is presented. The calculations were performed along the paper arXiv:0912.1624. This result provides a new data for testing the proposed spectral equations for planar AdS/CFT correspondence.
We construct the six dimensional Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) Lagrangian in a linear covariant gauge and subsequently renormalize it at two loops in the MSbar scheme. The coupling constant corresponding to the gauge interaction is asymptotically free for all numbers of quark fields, Nf. Analysing the beta-functions yields a rich spectrum of fixed points. For instance, the conformal window in the six dimensional theory is at Nf = 16 for the SU(3) colour group. The critical theory structure is similar to that of an O(N) scalar theory in eight dimensions. Using the large N expansion the latter is…
We compute the general form of the six-loop anomalous dimension of twist-two operators with arbitrary spin in planar N=4 SYM theory. First we find the contribution from the asymptotic Bethe ansatz. Then we reconstruct the wrapping terms from the first 35 even spin values of the full six-loop anomalous dimension computed using the quantum spectral curve approach. The obtained anomalous dimension satisfies all known constraints coming from the BFKL equation, the generalised double-logarithmic equation, and the small spin expansion.
Considering a six-dimensional geometry orbifolded on $S^1/Z_2\times S^1/Z_2$ with quarks and leptons localised on orthogonal branes, we show that the construction admits observable $n-\bar{n}$ oscillation while naturally suppressing the proton decay rates. Consistent with other low-energy observables, the model also accommodates baryogenesis at $\mathcal{O}$(10 TeV) scale.
We consider $O(N)$-symmetric bosonic $ϕ^4$ field theories above four dimensions, and propose a new reformulation in terms of an irreducible tensorial field with a cubic and Yukawa terms. The $ϕ^4$ field theory so rewritten exhibits real and nontrivial IR-stable fixed points near and below six dimension, for low values of $N$ such as $N=2$ and $N=3$. The so-defined UV completions of the $O(2)$ and $O(3)$ models hence constitute precious examples of asymptotically safe quantum field theories. The possibility of an extension of our results to five dimensions is discussed.
Imprints of spinor-vector dualities have been uncovered in various string constructions. They are typically induced by changing certain free general GSO phases in the underlying string partition functions. This paper shows that spinor-vector dualities in six dimensions are constrained by a fundamental effective field theory consistency condition, namely that any six dimensional low energy theory must be free of irreducible SO(2N) anomalies. Aspects of spinor-vector dualities are analysed in four six-dimensional free fermionic models which are distinguished by two generalised GSO phases. In add…
We present a metric solution in six dimensions where gravity is localized on a four-dimensional singular string-like defect. The corrections to four-dimensional gravity from the bulk continuum modes are suppressed by ${\cal O}(1/r^3)$. No tuning of the bulk cosmological constant to the brane tension is required in order to cancel the four-dimensional cosmological constant.
