We present results of calculations of $n{-}{^6\rm He}$ elastic scattering phase shifts and resonances in ${^7\rm He}$. The calculations utilize the SS-HORSE method combined with ab initio no-core shell model calculations of the ${^7\rm He}$ and ${^6\rm He}$ nuclei with Daejeon16 and the JISP16 $NN$ interactions.
It is suggested that the full nucleus-nucleus potential consists of the macroscopic and shell-correction parts. The deep sub-barrier fusion hindrance takes place in a nucleus-nucleus system with a strong negative shell-correction contribution to the full heavy-ion potential, while a strong positive shell-correction contribution to the full potential leads to weak enhancement of the deep sub-barrier fusion cross section.
We demonstrate that there is no appreciable enhancement of the anapole moment of $^{11}$Be. The effect of small energy intervals is compensated for by a small overlap of the halo neutron wave function with core.
The spectrum, partial and total decay widths of the states of the exotic 10Li nucleus are studied in an ab initio approach. The spectrum is calculated using No-Core Shell Model and corresponding extrapolation procedure. The calculations use the well-proven Daejeon16 potential. The NCSM-based approach, which includes a method for constructing the basis of functions of cluster channels and a procedure for matching the cluster form factors obtained within this method with the asymptotic wave functions, is applied to compute the widths of the levels. The results obtained quite adequately reproduce…
The full relaxed-density potential between spherical nuclei is considered as a sum of the macroscopic and shell-correction contributions. The macroscopic part of the potential is related to a nucleus-nucleus potential obtained in the framework of the extended Thomas-Fermi approach with the Skyrme and Coulomb forces and the relaxed-density ansatz for evaluation of proton and neutron densities of interacting nuclei. A simple prescription for the shell-correction part of the total potential is discussed. The parameters of the shell-correction and macroscopic parts of the relaxed-density potential…
Shell model wave functions have been used to form microscopic g-folding optical potentials with which elastic scattering data from 8He, 10,11C, and 18,20,22O scattering on hydrogen has been analyzed. Those potentials, the effective two-nucleon interaction used in their formation, and the shell model details, then have been used in distorted wave approximation calculations of differential cross sections from inelastic scattering to the first excited states of five of those radioactive ions.
In weakly bound exotic nuclei, number of excited bound states or narrow resonances is small and, moreover, they couple strongly to the particle continuum. Hence, these systems should be described in the quantum open system formalism which does not artificially separate the subspaces of (quasi-) bound and scattering states. The Shell Model Embedded in the Continuum provides a novel approach which solves this problem. Examples of application in sd-shell nuclei will be presented.
The neutron rich exotic unbound 7He nucleus has been the subject of many experimental investigations. While the ground-state 3/2- resonance is well established, there is a controversy concerning the excited 1/2- resonance reported in some experiments as low-lying and narrow (E_R ~ 1 MeV, Gamma < 1 MeV) while in others as very broad and located at a higher energy. This issue cannot be addressed by ab initio theoretical calculations based on traditional bound-state methods. We introduce a new unified approach to nuclear bound and continuum states based on the coupling of the no-core shell model,…
By means of periodic orbit theory and deformed cavity model, we have investigated semiclassical origin of superdeformed shell structure and also of reflection-asymmetric deformed shapes. Systematic analysis of quantum-classical correspondence reveals that bifurcation of equatorial orbits into three-dimensional ones play predominant role in the formation of these shell structures.
The structure of the neutron-rich carbon nucleus ^{16}C is described by introducing a new microscopic shell model of no-core type. The model space is composed of the 0s, 0p, 1s0d, and 1p0f shells. The effective interaction is microscopically derived from the CD-Bonn potential and the Coulomb force through a unitary transformation theory. Calculated low-lying energy levels of ^{16}C agree well with the experiment. The B(E2;2_{1}^{+} \to 0_{1}^{+}) value is calculated with the bare charges. The anomalously hindered B(E2) value for ^{16}C, measured recently, is well reproduced.
The sensitivity of nucleon-nucleus elastic scattering to the off-shell behavior of realistic nucleon-nucleon interactions is investigated when on-shell equivalent nucleon-nucleon potentials are used. The study is based on applications of the full-folding optical model potential for an explicit treatment of the off-shell behavior of the nucleon-nucleon effective interaction. Applications were made at beam energies between 40 and 500 MeV for proton scattering from 40Ca and 208Pb. We use the momentum-dependent Paris potential and its local on-shell equivalent as obtained with the Gelfand-Levitan …
We report on a study of neutron-rich nuclei around doubly magic 132Sn in terms of the shell model employing a realistic effective interaction derived from the CD-Bonn nucleon-nucleon potential. The short-range repulsion of the bare potential is renormalized by constructing a low-momentum potential, V-low-k, that is used directly as input for the calculation of the effective interaction. We present results for the four nuclei beyond the N=82 shell closure 134Sn, 134Sb, 136Sb, and 136Te. Comparison shows that our results are in very good agreement with the experimental data presently available f…
If neutrons are progressively added to a normal nucleus, the Pauli principle forces them into states of higher momentum. When the core becomes neutron-saturated, the nucleus expels most of the wavefunction of the last neutrons outside to form a halo, which because of its large size can have lower momentum. It is an open question how nature stabilizes such a fragile system and provides the glue needed to bind the halo neutrons to the core. Here we show that this problem is similar to that of the instability of the normal state of an electron system at zero temperature solved by Cooper, solution…
Analytical expressions for the elastic and dynamic form factors (FFs) are derived in the shell model (SM) with a potential well of finite depth. The consideration takes into account the motion of the target-nucleus center of mass (CM). Explanation is suggested for a simultaneous shrinking of the density and momentum distributions of nucleons in nuclei. The convenient working formulae are given to handle the expectation values of relevant multiplicative operators in case of the 1s-1p shell nuclei.
The sensitivity of nucleon-nucleus elastic scattering observables to the off-shell structure of nucleon-nucleon t-matrices, derived from realistic NN potentials, is investigated within the context of a full-folding model based on the impulse approximation. Our study uses recently developed NN potential models, which describe a subset of the NN data base with a $χ^2$ per datum $\sim$1, which means that the NN t-matrices are essentially on-shell equivalent. We calculate proton-nucleus elastic scattering observables for $^{16}$O, $^{40}$Ca, and $^{208}$Pb between 100 and 200 MeV laboratory energy…
A Multi-Channel Algebraic Scattering (MCAS) theory is presented with which the properties of a compound nucleus are found from a coupled-channel problem. The method defines both the bound states and resonances of the compound nucleus, even if the compound nucleus is particle unstable. All resonances of the system are found no matter how weak and/or narrow. Spectra of mass-7 nuclei and of {}^{15}F, and MCAS results for a radiative capture cross section are presented.
This paper presents a short overview of the shell-model approach with realistic effective interactions to the study of exotic nuclei. We first give a sketch of the current state of the art of the theoretical framework of this approach, focusing on the main ingredients and most relevant recent advances. Then, we present some selected results for neutron-rich nuclei in various mass regions, namely oxygen isotopes, $N=40$ isotones, and nuclei around $^{132}$Sn, to show the merit as well as the limits of these calculations.
Theoretical predictions and experimental discoveries for neutron-rich, short-lived nuclei far from stability indicate that the familiar concept of nucleonic shell structure should be considered as less robust than previously thought. The notion of single-particle motion in exotic nuclei is reviewed with a particular focus on three aspects: (i) variations of nuclear mean field with neutron excess due to tensor interactions; (ii) importance of many-body correlations; and (iii) influence of open channels on properties of weakly bound and unbound nuclear states.
Systematic alpha-nucleus folding potentials are used to analyze alpha-decay half-lives of superheavy nuclei. Preformation factors of about several per cent are found for all nuclei under study. The systematic behavior of the preformation factors and the volume integrals of the potentials allows to predict alpha-decay energies and half-lives for unknown nuclei. Shell closures can be determined from measured alpha-decay energies using the discontinuity of the volume integral at shell closures. For the first time a double shell closure is predicted for Z_magic = 132, N_magic = 194, and A_magic = …
Recent studies have provided new experimental information on the very neutron-rich nucleus 135Sb. We have performed a shell-model calculation for this nucleus using a realistic effective interaction derived from the CD-Bonn nucleon-nucleon potential. This gives a very good description of the observed properties of 135Sb. We show that the anomalously low position of the first excited state, J=5/2+, and the strongly hindered M1 transition to the ground state have their origin in the effective neutron-proton interaction.
We investigate the structure of the neutron rich nucleus $^{14}$B through studies of its breakup in the Coulomb field of a heavy target. The breakup amplitude is calculated within an adiabatic as well as finite range DWBA theories of breakup reactions. Both these formalisms allow the use of realistic wave functions for the relative motion between the fragments in the ground state of the projectile. The longitudinal momentum distributions of $^{13}$B (ground state) following the breakup of $^{14}$B on a heavy target at beam energy of 60 MeV/nucleon, calculated using two possible ground state co…
By using a non-relativistic independent particle model we investigate the mechanism promoting 34 as new magic number. We carried out Hartree-Fock plus Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer and Quasi-particle Random Phase Approximation calculations by consistently using the same finite-range interaction in all the three steps of our approach. We used four Gogny-like interactions, with and without tensor terms. We find that the shell closure for $N=34$ neutrons appears in isotones with $Z<26\,$ protons. The smaller is the proton number, the more evident is the shell closure at $N=34$. An ideal nucleus to in…
We report on a study of exotic nuclei around doubly magic 132Sn in terms of the shell model employing a realistic effective interaction derived from the CD-Bonn nucleon-nucleon potential. The short-range repulsion of the bare potential is renormalized by constructing a smooth low-momentum potential, V-low-k, that is used directly as input for the calculation of the effective interaction. In this paper we focus attention on the nuclei 134Sn and 135Sb which, with an N/Z ratio of 1.68 and 1.65, respectively, are at present the most exotic nuclei beyond 132Sn for which information exists on excite…
The semiclassical origins of the enhancement of shell effects in exotic-shape mean-field potentials are investigated by focusing attention on the roles of the local symmetries associated with the periodic-orbit bifurcations. The deformed shell structures for four types of pure octupole shapes in the nuclear mean-field model having a realistic radial dependence are analyzed. Remarkable shell effects are shown for a large Y32 deformation having tetrahedral symmetry. Much stronger shell effects found in the shape parametrization smoothly connecting the sphere and the tetrahedron are investigated …
Core-particle coupling models are made viable by assuming that core properties such as matrix elements of multipole and pairing operators and excitation spectra are known independently. From the completeness relation, it is seen, however, that these quantities are themselves algebraic functions of the calculated core-particle amplitudes. For the deformed rare-earth nucleus 158Gd, we find that these sum rules are well-satisfied for the ground state band, implying that we have found a self-consistent solution of the non-linear Kerman-Klein equations.
In this paper, we first give a brief review of the theoretical framework for microscopic shell-model calculations starting from the free nucleon-nucleon potential. In this context, we discuss the use of the low-momentum nucleon-nucleon interaction V-low-k in the derivation of the shell-model effective interaction and emphasize its practical value as an alternative to the Brueckner G-matrix method. Then, we present some results of our current study of exotic nuclei around doubly magic 132Sn, which have been obtained starting from the CD-Bonn potential renormalized by use of the V-low-k approach…
A recent paper [M. Rashdan, Phys. Rev. C 63, 044303 (2001)] introduces the new parameterization NL-RA1 of the relativistic mean-field model which is claimed to give a better description of nuclear properties than earlier ones. Using this model ^{298}114 is predicted to be a doubly-magic nucleus. As will be shown in this comment these findings are to be doubted as they are obtained with an unrealistic parameterization of the pairing interaction and neglecting ground-state deformation.
Using the information on the nuclear structure of exotic neutron-rich halo nucleus $^{11}$Be, we evaluate the parity violating anapole moment in its ground state. The resulting value $κ(^{11}$Be)$=0.17$ is fifteen times bigger than the typical value of the anapole moment of a normal nucleus of the same mass, and in fact exceeds by few times anapole moments of any known neutron-odd nuclei (e.g., kappa(^{11}Be) > 2|κ(^{207}Pb)|. It is also few times bigger than the neutral current contribution to the lepton-nucleus interaction.
We report on a shell-model study of Sn isotopes beyond N=82 employing a realistic effective interaction derived from the CD-Bonn nucleon-nucleon potential renormalized through use of the V-low-k approach. At present, the most exotic Sn isotope for which some experimental information exists is 134Sn with an N/Z ratio of 1.68. It is the aim of our study to compare the results of our calculations with the available experimental data and to make predictions for the neighboring heavier isotopes which may be within reach of the next generation of radioactive ion beam facilities. The very good agreem…
The study of exotic nuclei around 132Sn is a subject of current experimental and theoretical interest. Experimental information for nuclei in the vicinity of 132Sn, which have been long inaccessible to spectroscopic studies, is now available thanks to new advanced facilities and techniques. The experimental data which have been now become available for these neutron-rich nuclei may suggest a modification in the shell structure. They are, in fact, somewhat different from what one might expect by extrapolating the existing results for N<82, and as a possible explanation a change in the single-pr…
The experimental level structure of 134Sb is compared with the results of a shell-model calculation in which the two-body matrix elements of the effective interaction have been derived from the CD-Bonn nucleon-nucleon potential. The experimental data, including the very low-lying first-excited 1- state, are remarkably well reproduced by the theory. The results of this paper complement those of our previous studies on 135Sb and 134Sn, showing that our effective interaction is well suited to describe 132Sn neighbors beyond N=82. The various terms which contribute to the matrix elements of the pr…
The onset of intruder ground states in Na isotopes is investigated by comparing experimental data and shell-model calculations. This onset is one of the consequences of the disappearance of the N=20 magic structure, and the Na isotopes are shown to play a special role in clarifying the change of this magic structure. Both the electromagnetic moments and the energy levels clearly indicate an onset of ground state intruder configurations at neutron number N=19 already, which arises only with a narrow N=20 shell gap in Na isotopes resulting from the spin-isospin dependence of the nucleon-nucleon …
We combine Halo/Cluster Effective Field Theory (H/CEFT) and the Gamow Shell Model (GSM) to describe the $0^+$ ground state of $\rm{^6He}$ as a three-body halo system. We use two-body interactions for the neutron-alpha particle and two-neutron pairs obtained from H/CEFT at leading order, with parameters determined from scattering in the p$_{3/2}$ and s$_0$ channels, respectively. The three-body dynamics of the system is solved using the GSM formalism, where the continuum states are incorporated in the shell model valence space. We find that in the absence of three-body forces the system collaps…
We present results of shell model calculations for the proton drip line nucleus $^{106}$Sb. The shell model calculations were performed based on an effective interaction for the $2s1d0g_{7/2}0h11_{11/2}$ shells employing modern models for the nucleon-nucleon interaction. The results are compared with the recently proposed experimental yrast states. A good agreement with experiment is found lending support to the experimental spin assignements.
The relativistic mean field (RMF) model is used to describe nucleons in the nucleus and thereby to evaluate the effects of having dynamically off-shell spinors. Compared with free, on-shell nucleons as employed in some other models, within the RMF nucleons are described by relativistic spinors with strongly enhanced lower components. In this work it is seen that for MiniBooNE kinematics, neutrino charged-current quasielastic cross sections show some sensitivity to these off-shell effects, while for the antineutrino-nucleus case the total cross sections are seen to be essentially independent of…
The $J$-matrix inverse scattering approach can be used as an alternative to a conventional $R$-matrix in analyzing scattering phase shifts and extracting resonance energies and widths from experimental data. A great advantage of the $J$-matrix is that it provides eigenstates directly related to the ones obtained in the shell model in a given model space and with a given value of the oscillator spacing $\hbarΩ$. This relationship is of a particular interest in the cases when a many-body system does not have a resonant state or the resonance is broad and its energy can differ significantly from …
It has been debated whether the experimentally-identified superdeformed rotational band in $^{40}$Ar [E. Ideguchi, et al., Phys. Lett. B 686 (2010) 18] has an axially or triaxially deformed shape. Projected shell model calculations with angular-momentum-projection using an axially-deformed basis are performed up to high spins. Our calculated energy levels indicate a perfect collective-rotor behavior for the superdeformed yrast band. However, detailed analysis of the wave functions reveals that the high-spin structure is dominated by mixed 0-, 2-, and 4-quasiparticle configurations. The calcula…

Ab-initio predictions of nuclei with masses up to A~100 or more is becoming possible thanks to novel advances in computations and in the formalism of many-body physics. Some of the most fundamental issues include how to deal with many-nucleon interactions, how to calculate degenerate--open shell--systems, and pursuing ab-initio approaches to reaction theory. Self-consistent Green's function (SCGF) theory is a natural approach to address these challenges. Its formalism has recently been extended to three- and many-body interactions and reformulated within the Gorkov framework to reach semi-magi…
In this work, we have performed large-scale shell-model calculations for the first-forbidden $β^{-}$ decay of $^{207}$Hg into the one-proton-hole nucleus $^{207}$Tl corresponding to the recently available experimental data from ISOLDE-CERN [T. A. Berry et al., Phys. Rev. C 101, 054311 (2020)]. We have used the one-particle one-hole ($1p$-$1h$) truncation for both protons and neutrons simultaneously across the doubly-shell closure at $^{208}$Pb in the final states of $^{207}$Tl. In our calculations, we have also considered the effect of mesonic enhancement $ε_{\mathrm{mec}}=2.01\pm 0.05$ in the…
The ground state band was recently observed in the superheavy nucleus 256Rf. We study the rotational properties of 256Rf and its neighboring even-even nuclei by using a cranked shell model (CSM) with the pairing correlations treated by a particle-number conserving (PNC) method in which the blocking effects are taken into account exactly. The kinematic and dynamic moments of inertia of the ground state bands in these nuclei are well reproduced by the theory. The spin of the lowest observed state in 256Rf is determined by comparing the experimental kinematic moments of inertia with the PNC-CSM c…
We present the first application of the newly developed EKK theory of the effective nucleon-nucleon interaction to shell-model studies of exotic nuclei, including those where conventional approaches with fitted interactions encounter difficulties. This EKK theory enables us to derive the interaction suitable for several major shells ($sd$+$pf$ in this work). By using such an effective interaction obtained from the Entem-Machleidt QCD-based $χ\mathrm{N}^3\mathrm{LO}$ interaction and the Fujita-Miyazawa three-body force, the energies, E2 properties and spectroscopic factors of low-lying states o…
Equilibration times for nuclear matter configurations -- modelling intermediate and high energy nucleus-nucleus collisions -- are evaluated within the semiclassical off-shell transport approach developed recently. The transport equations are solved for a finite box in coordinate space employing periodic boundary conditions. The off-shell transport model is shown to give proper off-shell equilibrium distributions in the limit $t \to \infty$ for the nucleon and $Δ$-resonance spectral functions. We find that equilibration times within the off-shell approach are only slightly enhanced as compared …
The shapes of neutron-rich exotic Ni isotopes are studied. Large-scale shell model calculations are performed by advanced Monte Carlo Shell Model (MCSM) for the $pf$-$g_{9/2}$-$d_{5/2}$ model space. Experimental energy levels are reproduced well by a single fixed Hamiltonian. Intrinsic shapes are analyzed for MCSM eigenstates. Intriguing interplays among spherical, oblate, prolate and gamma-unstable shapes are seen including shape fluctuations, $E$(5)-like situation, the magicity of doubly-magic $^{56,68,78}$Ni, and the coexistence of spherical and strongly deformed shapes. Regarding the last …
An analytic phenomenological shell model mass formula for light nuclei is constructed., The formula takes into account the non locality of the self consistent single particle potential and the special features of light nuclei, namely: a) charge and mass distributions are closer to a Gaussian shape than to the shape characteristic in medium and heavy nuclei; b) the central charge and mass densities are larger than, and decrease towards, the "asymptotic" values that are the reference parameters for nuclear matter; and c) after a shell closure, the next level has a larger orbital angular momentum…
Neutrino-induced reactions on $^{16}$O are investigated by shell-model calculaions with new shell-model Hamiltonians, which can describe well the structure of $p$-shell and $p$-$sd$ shell nuclei. Distribution of the spin-dipole strengths in $^{16}$O, which give major contributions to the $ν$-$^{16}$O reaction cross sections, is studied with the new Hamiltonians. Muon-capture reaction rates on $^{16}$O are also studied to discuss the quenching of the axial-vector coupling in nuclear medium. Charged-current and neutral-current reaction cross sections are evaluated in various particle and $γ$ emi…
Advances in the self-consistent Green's function approach to finite nuclei are discussed, including the implementation of three-nucleon forces and the extension to the Gorkov formalism. We report results on binding energies in the nitrogen and fluorine isotopic chains, as well as spectral functions of 22O. The application to medium-mass open-shell systems is illustrated by separation energy spectra of two argon isotopes, which are compared to one-neutron removal experiments.
Novel simple properties of the monopole component of the effective nucleon-nucleon interaction are presented, leading to the so-called monopole-based universal interaction. Shell structures are shown to change as functions of $N$ and $Z$ consistently with experiments. Some key cases of this shell evolution are discussed, clarifying the effects of central and tensor forces. The validity of the present tensor force is examined in terms of the low-momentum interaction V$_{low k}$ and the Q$_{box}$ formalism.

The exotic $^9$He nucleus, which presents one of the most extreme neutron-to-proton ratios, belongs to the $N=7$ isotonic chain famous for the phenomenon of ground-state parity inversion with decreasing number of protons. Consequently, it would be expected to have an unnatural (positive) parity ground state similar to $^{11}$Be and $^{10}$Li. Despite many experimental and theoretical investigations, its structure remains uncertain. Apart from the fact that it is unbound, other properties including the spin and parity of its ground state and the very existence of additional low-lying resonances…
We investigate $α$-like correlations in $^{20}$Ne. A quartet of nucleons (different spin/isospin) is moving in a mean field produced by the $^{16}$O core nucleus. Improving the Thomas-Fermi model (local density approach), a shell model is considered for the core nucleus. The effective potential of the $α$-like quartet and the wave function for the center-of-mass (c.o.m.) motion are calculated and compared with other approaches.
The atomic nucleus is a quantum many-body system whose constituent nucleons (protons and neutrons) are subject to complex nucleon-nucleon interactions that include spin- and isospin-dependent components. For stable nuclei, already several decades ago, emerging seemingly regular patterns in some observables could be described successfully within a shell-model picture that results in particularly stable nuclei at certain magic fillings of the shells with protons and/or neutrons: N,Z = 8, 20, 28, 50, 82, 126. However, in short-lived, so-called exotic nuclei or rare isotopes, characterized by a la…
Quadrupole and octupole softness in the even-even N=Z nucleus 64Ge is studied on the spherical shell model basis. We carry out the shell model calculation using the pairing plus quadrupole (QQ) plus octupole (OO) interaction with monopole corrections. It is shown that 64Ge is an unstable nucleus with respect to both the quadrupole and octupole deformations, which is consistent with the previous discussions predicting the gamma softness and octupole instability. It is demonstrated that proton-neutron part QpQn of the QQ interaction is important for the gamma softness or triaxiality.
In order to clear up the sensitivity of the nucleus-nucleus scattering to the nuclear matter distributions of exotic halo nuclei, we have calculated differential cross sections for elastic scattering of the $^6$He and $^{11}$Li nuclei on several nuclear targets at the energy of 0.8 GeV/nucleon with different assumed nuclear density distributions in $^6$He and $^{11}$Li.
The series of Uranium isotopes with $N=154 \sim 172$ around the magic number N=162/164 are identified to be thermally fissile. The thermal neutron fission of a typical representative $^{249}$U of this region amenable to synthesis in the radioactive ion beam facilities is considered here. Semiempirical study of fission barrier height and width shows this nucleus to be infinitely stable against spontaneous fission due to increase in barrier width arising out of excess neutrons. Calculation of probability of fragment mass yields and microscopic study in relativistic mean field theory, show this n…
The structures of the ground and excited states of sd-shell nuclei: Ca-40 and Ar-36 were studied with a method of antisymmetrized molecular dynamics. Recently observed rotational bands were described with deformed intrinsic states which are dominated by excited configurations such as 4p-4h, 8p-8h and 4p-8h states. The results showed the coexistence of various kinds of exotic shapes with oblate, prolate and large prolate deformatios in the low-energy region of Ca-40. Possible cluster aspects in heavy sd-shell nuclei were implied in these exotic shapes.
The recently confirmed neutron-shell closure at N = 32 has been investigated for the first time below the magic proton number Z = 20 with mass measurements of the exotic isotopes 52,53K, the latter being the shortest-lived nuclide investigated at the online mass spectrometer ISOLTRAP. The resulting two-neutron separation energies reveal a 3 MeV shell gap at N = 32, slightly lower than for 52Ca, highlighting the doubly-magic nature of this nuclide. Skyrme-Hartree-Fock-Boguliubov and ab initio Gorkov-Green function calculations are challenged by the new measurements but reproduce qualitatively t…
We have investigated the implications of the neutron halo configuration, observed in the ground-state of some neutron-rich light nuclei, on neutron radiative transition processes. In particular, we have studied the influence of the neutron halo on the direct radiative capture (DRC) process. The energy dependence as well as the strength of E1 emission due to incident p-wave neutrons is strongly influenced by the halo configuration of the residual nucleus capturing state. We have compared the calculated 10Be(n,gamma)11Be DRC cross section with that derived from the experiment in the inverse kine…
With a certain approximation for the Coulomb matrix elements in a single j shell of protons and neutrons it is found that wave functions of states of odd angular momentum J in an even-even nucleus are not strongly affected by their presence,
