We compare the rate of decay of singular numbers of a given composition operator acting on various Hilbert spaces of analytic functions on the unit disk $\D$. We show that for the Hardy and Bergman spaces, our results are sharp. We also give lower and upper estimates of the singular numbers of the composition operator with symbol the ``cusp map'' and the lens maps, acting on weighted Dirichlet spaces.
In this paper, we consider composition operators on weighted Hilbert spaces of analytic functions and observe that a formula for the essential norm, give a Hilbert-Schmidt characterization and characterize the membership in Schatten-class for these operators. Also, closed range composition operators are investigated.
Every analytic self-map of the unit ball of a Hilbert space induces a bounded composition operator on the space of Bloch functions. Necessary and sufficient conditions for compactness of such composition operators are provided, as well as some examples that clarify the connections among such conditions.
We characterize those generating functions k that produce weighted Hardy spaces of the unit disk D supporting nontrivial Hermitian weighted composition operators. Our characterization shows that the spaces associated with the "classical reproducing kernels," as well as certain natural extensions of these spaces, are precisely those that are hospitable to Hermitian weighted composition operators. It also leads to a refinement of a necessary condition for a weighted composition to be Hermitian, obtained recently by Cowen, Gunatillake, and Ko, into one that is both necessary and sufficient.
Composition operators with analytic symbols on some reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces of entire functions on a complex Hilbert space are studied. The questions of their boundedness, seminormality and positivity are investigated. It is proved that if such an operator is bounded, then its symbol is a polynomial of degree at most 1, i.e., it is an affine mapping. Fock's type model for composition operators with linear symbols is established. As a consequence, explicit formulas for their polar decomposition, Aluthge transform and powers with positive real exponents are provided. The theorem of Car…
We prove several singular value inequalities for sum and product of compact operators in Hilbert space. Some of our results generalize the previous inequalities for operators. Also, applications of some inequalities are given.
Very recently, Božin and Karapetrović solved a conjecture by proving that the norm of the Hilbert matrix operator $\mathcal{H}$ on the Bergman space $A^p$ is equal to $\fracπ{\sin(\frac{2π}{p})}$ for $2 < p < 4.$ In this article we present a partly new and simplified proof of this result. Moreover, we calculate the exact value of the norm of $\mathcal{H}$ defined on the Korenblum spaces $H^\infty_α$ for $0 < α\le 2/3$ and an upper bound for the norm on the scale $2/3 < α< 1$.
We show that the "eigenbundle" (localization bundle) of certain Hilbert modules over bounded symmetric domains of rank r is a "singular" vector bundle (linearly fibrered complex analytic space) which decomposes as a stratified sum of homogeneous vector bundles along a canonical stratification of length r+1. The fibres are realized in terms of representation theory on the normal space of the strata.
We characterize the compactness of composition operators; in term of generalized Nevanlinna counting functions, on a large class of Hilbert spaces of analytic functions, which can be viewed between the Bergman and the Dirichlet spaces
In the paper we give the results about the spectra of non-invertible weighted composition operators induced by automorphisms on several Hilbert spaces, such as Hardy-Hilbert space $H^2(\mathbb{D})$ and weighted Bergman spaces $A_α^2(\mathbb{D})$.
We study submodules of analytic Hilbert modules defined over certain algebraic varieties in bounded symmetric domains, the so-called Jordan-Kepler varieties $V_\ell$ of arbitrary rank $\ell.$ For $\ell>1$ the singular set of $V_\ell$ is not a complete intersection. Hence the usual monoidal transformations do not suffice for the resolution of the singularities. Instead, we describe a new higher rank version of the blow-up process, defined in terms of Jordan algebraic determinants, and apply this resolution to obtain the rigidity of the submodules vanishing on the singular set.
Current work defines Schmidt representation of a bilinear operator $T: H_1 \times H_2 \rightarrow K$, where $H_1, H_2$ and $K$ are separable Hilbert spaces. Introducing the concept of singular value and ordered singular value, we prove that if $T$ is compact, and its singular values are ordered, then $T$ has a Schmidt representation on real Hilbert spaces. We prove that the hypothesis of existence of ordered singular values is fundamental.
We introduce the notion of a pseudomultiplier of a Hilbert space $\mathcal H$ of functions on a set $Ω$. Roughly, a pseudomultiplier of $\mathcal H$ is a function which multiplies a finite-codimensional subspace of $\mathcal H$ into $\mathcal H$, where we allow the possibility that a pseudomultiplier is not defined on all of $Ω$. A pseudomultiplier of $\mathcal H$ has singularities, which comprise a subspace of $\mathcal H$, and generalize the concept of singularities of an analytic function, even though the elements of $\mathcal H$ need not enjoy any sort of analyticity. We analyse the nature…
A Hilbert space operator $U$ is called universal (in the sense of Rota) if every Hilbert space operator is similar to a multiple of $U$ restricted to one of its invariant subspaces. It follows that the Invariant Subspace Problem for Hilbert spaces is equivalent to the statement that all minimal invariant subspaces for $U$ are one dimensional. In this article we characterize all linear fractional composition operators $C_ϕ f=f\circϕ$ that have universal translates on both the classical Hardy spaces $H^2(\mathbb{C}_+)$ and $H^2(\mathbb{D})$ of the half-plane and the unit disk respectively. The s…
We study a semigroup of weighted composition operators on the Hardy space of the disk $H^2(\mathbb{D})$, and more generally on the Hardy space $H^2(U)$ attached to a simply connected domain $U$ with smooth boundary. Motivated by conformal field theory, we establish bounds on the singular values (approximation numbers) of these weighted composition operators. As a byproduct we obtain estimates on the singular values of the restriction operator (embedding operator) $H^2(V) \to H^2(U)$ when $U \subset V$ and the boundary of $U$ touches that of $V$. Moreover, using the connection between the weigh…
In this paper we investigate the numerical ranges of composition operators whose symbols are elliptic automorphisms of finite orders, on the Hilbert Hardy space $H^2(D)$.
We investigate the behavior of a generalized Hilbert space model of a function in the Schur class of the bidisk at singular boundary points that satisfy a growth condition. We examine the relationship between the boundary behavior of Schur functions and the geometry of corresponding generalized Hilbert space models. We describe a geometric condition on an associated operator that classifies the behavior of the directional derivative of the underlying Schur function at a carapoint.
For $E$ a Hilbert space, let $\mathcal{H}(E)$ denote the Segal-Bargmann space (also known as the Fock space) over $E$, which is a reproducing kernel Hilbert space with kernel $K(x,y)=\exp(< x,y>)$ for $x,y$ in $E$. If $ϕ$ is a mapping on $E$, the composition operator $C_ϕ$ is defined by $C_ϕh = h\circϕ$ for $h\in \mathcal{H}(E)$ for which $h\circϕ$ also belongs to $\mathcal{H}(E)$. We determine necessary and sufficient conditions for the boundedness and compactness of $C_ϕ$. Our results generalize results obtained earlier by Carswell, MacCluer and Schuster for finite dimensional spaces $E$.
In this paper we study the small-$λ$ spectral asymptotics of an integral operator $\mathscr{K}$ defined on two multi-intervals $J$ and $E$, when the multi-intervals touch each other (but their interiors are disjoint). The operator $\mathscr{K}$ is closely related to the multi-interval Finite Hilbert Transform (FHT). This case can be viewed as a singular limit of self-adjoint Hilbert-Schmidt integral operators with so-called integrable kernels, where the limiting operator is still bounded, but has a continuous spectral component. The regular case when $\text{dist}(J,E)>0$, and $\mathscr{K}$ is …
Let $\mathscr{H}^2$ denote the Hardy space of Dirichlet series $f(s) = \sum_{n\geq1} a_n n^{-s}$ with square summable coefficients and suppose that $φ$ is a symbol generating a composition operator on $\mathscr{H}^2$ by $\mathscr{C}_φ(f) = f \circ φ$. Let $ζ$ denote the Riemann zeta function and $α_0=1.48\ldots$ the unique positive solution of the equation $αζ(1+α)=2$. We obtain sharp upper bounds for the norm of $\mathscr{C}_φ$ on $\mathscr{H}^2$ when $0<\operatorname{Re}φ(+\infty)-1/2 \leq α_0$, by relating such sharp upper bounds to the best constant in a family of discrete Hilbert-type ine…
We consider the products of composition and differentiation operators on the Hardy space. We provide a complete characterization of the boundedness and compactness of these operators. Furthermore, we obtain the explicit condition for these operators to be Hilbert-Schmidt operators.
We introduce the concept of the touching of two multifunctions on a real Hilbert space, and deduce that certain multifunctions on the space have a unique fixed point. These result are applied to the theory of genaralized cycles and generalized gap vectors for the composition of the projections onto a finite number of closed convex space in a real Hilbert space.
In this work, firstly in the Hilbert space of vector-functions L^2 (H,(-\infty,a)\bup(b,+\infty)),a<b all selfadjoint extensions of the minimal operator generated by linear singular symmetric differential expression l(\cdot)=i d/dt+A with a selfadjoint operator coefficient A in any Hilbert space H, are described in terms of boundary values. Later structure of the spectrum of these extensions is investigated.
In this paper we show that a composition operator $C_φ$ cannot be complex symmetric on Hardy-Hilbert space $H^2(D)$ when $φ$ is an elliptic automorphism of order $3$ and not a rotation. This completes the project of finding all invertible composition operators which are complex symmetric $H^2(D)$.
Properties of compositions and convex combinations of averaged nonexpansive operators are investigated and applied to the design of new fixed point algorithms in Hilbert spaces. An extended version of the forward-backward splitting algorithm for finding a zero of the sum of two monotone operators is obtained.
In this work, in the Hilbert space of vector-functions L^2 (H,(-\infty,a)\cup(b,+\infty)),a<b all normal extensions of the minimal operator generated by linear singular formally normal differential expression l(\cdot)=(d/dt+A_1,d/dt+A_2) with a selfadjoint operator coefficients A_1 andA_2 in any Hilbert space H, are described in terms of boundary values. Later structure of the spectrum of these extensions is investigated.
We investigate composition-differentiation operators acting on the Dirichlet space of the unit disk. Specifically, we determine characterizations for bounded, compact, and Hilbert-Schmidt composition-differentiation operators. In addition, for particular classes of inducing maps, we derive an adjoint formula, compute the norm, and identify the spectrum.
In this paper, we specify what functions induce the bounded composition operators on a reproducing kernel Hilbert space (RKHS) associated with an analytic positive definite function defined on $\mathbf{R}^d$. We prove that only affine transforms can do so in a pretty large class of RKHS. Our result covers not only the Paley-Wiener space on the real line, studied in previous works, but also much more general RKHSs corresponding to analytic positive definite functions where existing methods do not work. Our method only relies on an intrinsic properties of the RKHSs, and we establish a connection…
The aim of this paper is to study when two composition operators on the Hilbert space of Dirichlet series with square summable coefficients belong to the same component or when their difference is compact. As a corollary we show that if a linear combination of composition operators with polynomial symbols of degree at most 2 is compact, then each composition operator is compact.
We present important characterizations of the Weighted Composition Operator over the Mittag Leffler space of entire functions. These characterizations include the Hilbert-Schmidt and Unitary char-acterizations of the Weighted Composition Operator over the Mittag-Leffler space. We also see the result for the spectrum of Weighted com-position operator over the Mittag-Leffler space
We study mean ergodic composition operators on infinite dimensional spaces of holomorphic functions of different types when defined on the unit ball of a Banach or a Hilbert space: that of all holomorphic functions, that of holomorphic functions of bounded type and that of bounded holomorphic functions. Several examples in the different settings are given.
We study weighted composition operators on Hilbert spaces of analytic functions on the unit ball with kernels of the form $(1-<z,w>)^{-γ}$ for $γ>0$. We find necessary and sufficient conditions for the adjoint of a weighted composition operator to be a weighted composition operator or the inverse of a weighted composition operator. We then obtain characterizations of self-adjoint and unitary weighted composition operators. Normality of these operators is also investigated.
We observe that local embedding problems for certain Hardy and Bergman spaces of Dirichlet series are equivalent to boundedness of a class of composition operators. Following this, we perform a careful study of such composition operators generated by polynomial symbols $φ$ on a scale of Bergman--type Hilbert spaces $\mathcal{D}_α$. We investigate the optimal $β$ such that the composition operator $\mathcal{C}_φ$ maps $\mathcal{D}_α$ boundedly into $\mathcal{D}_β$. We also prove a new embedding theorem for the non-Hilbertian Hardy space $\mathcal H^p$ into a Bergman space in the half-plane and …

In this paper we consider the cone of all positive, bounded operators acting on an infinite dimensional, complex Hilbert space, and examine bijective maps that preserve absolute continuity in both directions. It turns out that these maps are exactly those that preserve singularity in both directions. Moreover, in some weak sense, such maps are always induced by bounded, invertible, linear- or conjugate linear operators of the underlying Hilbert space. Our result gives a possible generalization of a recent theorem of Molnar which characterizes maps on the positive cone that preserve the Lebesgu…
We prove that the weighted composition operator $W_{ϕ,φ}$ fixes an isomorphic copy of $\ell^p$ if the operator $W_{ϕ,φ}$ is not compact on the derivative Hardy space $S^p$. In particular, this implies that the strict singularity of the operator $W_{ϕ,φ}$ coincides with the compactness of it on $S^p$. Moreover, when $p\neq2$, we characterize the conditions for those weighted composition operators $W_{ϕ,φ}$ on $S^p$ which fix an isomorphic copy of $\ell^2$ .
We consider stochastic equations in Hilbert spaces with singular drift in the framework of [Da Prato, Röckner, PTRF 2002]. We prove a Harnack inequality (in the sense of [Wang, PTRF 1997]) for its transition semigroup and exploit its consequences. In particular, we prove regularizing and ultraboundedness properties of the transition semigroup as well as that the corresponding Kolmogorov operator has at most one infinitesimally invariant measure $μ$ (satisfying some mild integrability conditions). Finally, we prove existence of such a measure $μ$ for non-continuous drifts.
Let $ E $ be a space of holomorphic functions on the unit ball $ B_X $ of a Banach space $ X.$ In this work, we introduce a Banach structure associated to $ E $ on the linear space $ WE(Y) $ containing $ Y$-valued holomorphic functions on $ B_X $ such that $ w \circ f \in E $ for every $ w \in W, $ a separating subspace of the dual $ Y' $ of a Banach $ Y. $ We establish the relation between the boundedness, the (weak) compactness of the weighted composition operators $ W_{ψ,φ}: f\mapsto ψ\cdot(f \circ φ) $ on $ E $ and $ \widetilde{W}_{ψ,φ}: g\mapsto ψ\cdot(g \circ φ) $ on $ WE(Y)$ via some ch…
Reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces (RKHSs) play an important role in many statistics and machine learning applications ranging from support vector machines to Gaussian processes and kernel embeddings of distributions. Operators acting on such spaces are, for instance, required to embed conditional probability distributions in order to implement the kernel Bayes rule and build sequential data models. It was recently shown that transfer operators such as the Perron-Frobenius or Koopman operator can also be approximated in a similar fashion using covariance and cross-covariance operators and that …
Denote by $ B_X $ the unit ball of an infinite-dimensional complex Hilbert space $ X. $ Let $ψ\in H(B_X),$ the space of all holomorphic functions on the unit ball $B_X,$ $φ\in S(B_X)$ the set of holomorphic self-maps of $B_X. $ Let $C_{ψ, φ}: \mathcal B_ν(B_X)$ (and $ \mathcal B_{ν,0}(B_X)$) $\to \mathcal B_μ(B_X) $ (and $ \mathcal B_{μ,0}(B_X)$) be weighted extended Cesàro operators induced by products of the extended Cesàro operator $ C_φ$ and integral operator $T_ψ.$ In this paper, we characterize the boundedness and compactness of $ C_{ψ,φ} $ via the estimates for the restrictions of $ ψ$ …
This work is a generalization of the results in [Gul] to bi-disc case. As in [Gul], quasi-parabolic composition operators on the Hilbert-Hardy space of the bi-disc are written as a linear combination of Toeplitz operators and Fourier multipliers. The C*-algebra generated by Toeplitz operators and Fourier multipliers on the Hilbert-Hardy space of the bi-disc is written as the tensor product of the similar C*-algebra in one variable with itself. As a result we find a nontrivial set lying inside the essential spectra of quasi-parabolic composition operators.
Because of Minty's classical correspondence between firmly nonexpansive mappings and maximally monotone operators, the notion of a firmly nonexpansive mapping has proven to be of basic importance in fixed point theory, monotone operator theory, and convex optimization. In this note, we show that if finitely many firmly nonexpansive mappings defined on a real Hilbert space are given and each of these mappings is asymptotically regular, which is equivalent to saying that they have or "almost have" fixed points, then the same is true for their composition. This significantly generalizes the resul…
We consider composition operators in the Dirichlet space of the unit disc in the plane. Various criteria on boundedness, compactness and Hilbert-Schmidt class membership are established. Some of these criteria are shown to be optimal.
We show that every non-compact weighted composition operator $f \mapsto u\cdot (f\circϕ)$ acting on a Hardy space $H^p$ for $1 \leq p < \infty$ fixes an isomorphic copy of the sequence space $\ell^p$ and therefore fails to be strictly singular. We also characterize those weighted composition operators on $H^p$ which fix a copy of the Hilbert space $\ell^2$. These results extend earlier ones obtained for unweighted composition operators.
This paper solves the rational noncommutative analog of Hilbert's 17th problem: if a noncommutative rational function is positive semidefinite on all tuples of hermitian matrices in its domain, then it is a sum of hermitian squares of noncommutative rational functions. This result is a generalization and culmination of earlier positivity certificates for noncommutative polynomials or rational functions without hermitian singularities. More generally, a rational Positivstellensatz for free spectrahedra is given: a noncommutative rational function is positive semidefinite or undefined at every m…
This paper seeks to extend the theory of composition operators on analytic functional Hilbert spaces from analytic symbols to quasiconformal ones. The focus is the boundedness but operator-theoretic questions are discussed as well. In particular, we present a thorough analysis of $L^p$-estimates of a class of singular integral operators $P_φ$ associated with a quasiconformal mapping $φ$.
