We consider the composition of operators with non-closed range in Hilbert spaces and how the nature of ill-posedness is affected by their composition. Specifically, we study the \mbox{Hausdorff-,} Cesàro-, integration operator, and their adjoints, as well as some combinations of those. For the composition of the Hausdorff- and the Cesàro-operator, we give estimates of the decay of the corresponding singular values. As a curiosity, this provides also an example of two practically relevant non-compact operators, for which their composition is compact. Furthermore, we characterize those operators for which a composition with a non-compact operator gives a compact one.
Several convergence results in Hilbert scales under different source conditions are proved and orders of convergence and optimal orders of convergence are derived. Also, relations between those source conditions are proved. The concept of a multiple Hilbert scale on a product space is introduced, regularization methods on these scales are defined, both for the case of a single observation and for the case of multiple observations. In the latter case, it is shown how vector-valued regularization functions in these multiple Hilbert scales can be used. In all cases convergence is proved and order…
We characterize the solutions of the Poisson equation and the domain of its associated one-sided Hilbert transform for Cesàro bounded operators of fractional order. The results obtained fairly generalize the corresponding ones for power-bounded operators. In passing, we give an extension of the mean ergodic theorem. Examples are given to illustrate the theory.
We present more than 50 results including some range inclusion results to characterize reverse order law for Moore-Penrose inverse of closed range Hilbert space operators. We use basic properties of Moore-Penrose inverse to prove the results. Some examples are also provided to illustrate failure cases to hold the reverse order law in infinite dimensional settings.
Integral operators of Abel type of order a > 0 arise naturally in a large spectrum of physical processes. Their inversion requires care since the resulting inverse problem is ill-posed. The purpose of this work is to devise and analyse a family of appropriate Hilbert scales so that the operator is ill-posed of order a in the scale. We provide weak regularity assumptions on the kernel underlying the operator for the above to hold true. Our construction leads to a well-defined regularisation strategy by Tikhonov regularisation in Hilbert scales. We thereby generalise the results of Gorenflo and …
In this paper, we introduce a new problem called the split feasibility and fixed point equality problems (SFFPEP) and propose a new iterative algorithm for solving the problem (SFFPEP) for the class of quasi-nonexpansive mappings in Hilbert spaces. Furthermore, we study the convergence of the proposed algorithm. At the end, we give numerical example that illustrate our theoretical result. The SFFPEP is a generalization of the split feasibility problem (SFP), split feasibility and fixed point problems (SFFPP) and split equality fixed point problem (SEFPP).
Despite the strong focus of regularization on ill-posed problems, the general construction of such methods has not been fully explored. Moreover, many previous studies cannot be clearly adapted to handle more complex scenarios, albeit the greatly increasing concerns on the improvement of wider classes. In this note, we rigorously study a general theory for filter regularized operators in a Hilbert space for nonlinear evolution equations which have occurred naturally in different areas of science. The starting point lies in problems that are in principle ill-posed with respect to the initial/fi…
Introduced by Duffin and Schaefer as a part of their work on nonhamonic fourrier series in 1952, the theory of frames has undergone a very interesting evolution in recent decades following the multiplicity of work carried out in this field. In this work, we introduce a new concept that of integral operator frame for the set of all adjointable operators on a Hilbert C*-modules H and we give some new propertis relating for some construction of integral operator frame, also we establish some new results. Some illustrative examples are provided to advocate the usability of our results.
Using the technique of enrichment of contractive type mappings by Krasnoselskij averaging, presented here for the first time, we introduce and study the class of {\it enriched nonexpansive mappings} in Hilbert spaces. In order to approximate the fixed points of enriched nonexpansive mappings we use the Krasnoselskij iteration for which we prove strong and weak convergence theorems. Examples to illustrate the richness of the new class of contractive mappings are also given. Our results in this paper extend some classical convergence theorems established by Browder and Petryshyn in [Browder, F. …
We study reproducing kernels, and associated reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces (RKHSs) $\mathscr{H}$ over infinite, discrete and countable sets $V$. In this setting we analyze in detail the distributions of the corresponding Dirac point-masses of $V$. Illustrations include certain models from neural networks: An Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) is a neural network-configuration in which a hidden layer of weights are randomly sampled, and where the object is then to compute resulting output. For RKHSs $\mathscr{H}$ of functions defined on a prescribed countable infinite discrete set $V$, we chara…
The article deals with iterative methods of solving linear operator equations $x = Bx + f$ and $Ax = f$ with self-adjoint operators in Hilbert space $X$ in critical case when $ρ(B) = 1$ and $0 \in {\rm Sp}\, A$. The main results are based on the use of M.A. Krasnosel'skiĭ theorem about the convergence of the successive approximations and some its modifications and refinements.
We discuss the concepts of pseudo-dual frames and approximately dual frames, and illuminate their relationship to classical frames. Approximately dual frames are easier to construct than the classical dual frames, and might be tailored to yield almost perfect reconstruction. For approximately dual frames constructed via perturbation theory, we provide a bound on the deviation from perfect reconstruction. An alternative bound is derived for the rich class of Gabor frames, by using the Walnut representation of the frame operator to estimate the deviation from equality in the duality conditions. …
The aim of this paper is to present a unified framework in the setting of Hilbert $C^*$-modules for the scalar- and vector-valued reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces and $C^*$-valued reproducing kernel spaces. We investigate conditionally negative definite kernels with values in the $C^*$-algebra of adjointable operators acting on a Hilbert $C^*$-module. In addition, we show that there exists a two-sided connection between positive definite kernels and reproducing kernel Hilbert $C^*$-modules. Furthermore, we explore some conditions under which a function is in the reproducing kernel module and …

We study reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces (RKHS) on a Riemannian manifold. In particular, we discuss under which condition Sobolev spaces are RKHS and characterize their reproducing kernels. Further, we introduce and discuss a class of smoother RKHS that we call diffusion spaces. We illustrate the general results with a number of detailed examples.
We study regularity properties for invariant measures of semilinear diffusions in a separable Hilbert space. Based on a pathwise estimate for the underlying stochastic convolution, we prove a priori estimates on such invariant measures. As an application, we combine such estimates with a new technique to prove the $L^1$-uniqueness of the induced Kolmogorov operator, defined on a space of cylindrical functions. Finally, examples of stochastic Burgers equations and thin-film growth models are given to illustrate our abstract result.
In the first part of the paper, we use states on $C^*$-algebras in order to establish some equivalent statements to equality in the triangle inequality, as well as to the parallelogram identity for elements of a pre-Hilbert $C^*$-module. We also characterize the equality case in the triangle inequality for adjointable operators on a Hilbert $C^*$-module. Then we give certain necessary and sufficient conditions to the Pythagoras identity for two vectors in a pre-Hilbert $C^*$-module under the assumption that their inner product has negative real part. We introduce the concept of Pythagoras orth…
A subset of a convex body $B$ containing the origin in a Euclidean space is {\it parkable in $B$} if it can be translated inside $B$ in such a manner that the translate the origin. We provide characterizations of ellipsoids and of centrally symmetric convex bodies in Euclidean spaces of dimension $\ge 3$ based on the notion of parkability, answering several questions posed by G. Bergman. The techniques used, which are based on characterizations of Hilbert spaces among finite-dimensional Banach spaces in terms of their lattices of subspaces and algebras of endomorphisms, also apply to improve a…
The Douglas-Rachford algorithm is one of the most prominent splitting algorithms for solving convex optimization problems. Recently, the method has been successful in finding a generalized solution (provided that one exists) for optimization problems in the inconsistent case, i.e., when a solution does not exist. The convergence analysis of the inconsistent case hinges on the study of the range of the displacement operator associated with the Douglas-Rachford splitting operator and the corresponding minimal displacement vector. In this paper, we provide a formula for the range of the Douglas-R…
Evolution algebras are non-associative algebras. In this work we provide an extension of this class of algebras, in the context of Hilbert spaces, capable to deal with infinite-dimensional spaces. We illustrate the applicability of our approach by discussing a connection with discrete-time Markov chains with countable state space.
Let ${\mbox{$\mbox{\boldmath $f$}$}}$ be a square-integrable, zero-mean, random vector with observable realizations in a Hilbert space $H$, and let ${\mbox{$\mbox{\boldmath $g$}$}}$ be an associated square-integrable, zero-mean, random vector with realizations, which are not observable, in a Hilbert space $K$. We seek an optimal filter in the form of a closed linear operator $X$ acting on the observable realizations of a proximate vector ${\mbox{$\mbox{\boldmath $f$}$}}_ε \approx {\mbox{$\mbox{\boldmath $f$}$}}$ that provides the best estimate $\widehat{{\mbox{$\mbox{\boldmath $g$}$}}}_ε = X {…
We study a restriction of the Hilbert transform as an operator $H_T$ from $L^2(a_2,a_4)$ to $L^2(a_1,a_3)$ for real numbers $a_1 < a_2 < a_3 < a_4$. The operator $H_T$ arises in tomographic reconstruction from limited data, more precisely in the method of differentiated back-projection (DBP). There, the reconstruction requires recovering a family of one-dimensional functions $f$ supported on compact intervals $[a_2,a_4]$ from its Hilbert transform measured on intervals $[a_1,a_3]$ that might only overlap, but not cover $[a_2,a_4]$. We show that the inversion of $H_T$ is ill-posed, which is why…
In this paper, we study the strong convergence of an algorithm to solve the variational inequality problem which extends(Thong et al, Numerical Algorithms. 78, 1045-1060 (2018)). We have reduced and refined some of their algorithm's conditions and we have proved the convergence of the algorithm in the presence of some computational errors. Then using MATLAB software, the result will by illustrated in some numerical examples. Finally, we compare our algorithm with some other well known algorithms.
Consider the following property of a topological group G: every continuous affine G-action on a Hilbert space with a bounded orbit has a fixed point. We prove that this property characterizes amenability for locally compact sigma-compact groups (e.g. countable groups). Along the way, we introduce a "moderate" variant of the classical induction of representations and we generalize the Gaboriau--Lyons theorem to prove that any non-amenable locally compact group admits a probabilistic variant of discrete free subgroups. This leads to the "measure-theoretic solution" to the von Neumann problem for…
Reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces (RKHSs) play an important role in many statistics and machine learning applications ranging from support vector machines to Gaussian processes and kernel embeddings of distributions. Operators acting on such spaces are, for instance, required to embed conditional probability distributions in order to implement the kernel Bayes rule and build sequential data models. It was recently shown that transfer operators such as the Perron-Frobenius or Koopman operator can also be approximated in a similar fashion using covariance and cross-covariance operators and that …
