Let $ν$ be a probability measure that is ergodic under the endomorphism $(\times p, \times p)$ of the torus $\mathbb{T}^2$, such that $\dim πμ< \dim μ$ for some non-principal projection $π$. We show that, if both $m\neq n$ are independent of $p$, the $(\times m, \times n)$ orbits of $ν$ typical points will equidistribute towards the Lebesgue measure. If $m>p$ then typically the $(\times m, \times p)$ orbits will equidistribute towards the product of the Lebesgue measure with the marginal of $μ$ on the $y$-axis. We also prove results in the same spirit for certain self similar measures $ν$. These are higher dimensional analogues of results due (among others) to Host, Lindenstrauss, and Hochman-Shmerkin.
Counting periodic orbits of endomorphisms on the 2-torus is considered, with special focus on the relation between global and local aspects and between the dynamical zeta function on the torus and its analogue on finite lattices. The situation on the lattices, up to local conjugacy, is completely determined by the determinant, the trace and a third invariant of the matrix defining the toral endomorphism.
We found a dichotomy involving the unstable Lyapunov exponent of a special Anosov endomorphism of the torus induced by the conjugacy with the linearization. In fact, either every unstable leaf meets on a set of zero measure the set for which is defined such unstable Lyapunov exponent or the endomorphims is smoothly conjugated with its linearization. Also we are able to characterize the absolute continuity of the intermediate foliation for a class of volume preserving special Anosov endomorphisms of $\mathbb{T}^3.$
We obtain smooth conjugacy between non-necessarily special Anosov endomorphisms in the conservative case. Among other results, we prove that a strongly special $C^{\infty}-$Anosov endomorphism of $\mathbb{T}^2$ and its linearization are smoothly conjugated since they have the same periodic data. Assuming that for a strongly special $C^{\infty}-$Anosov endomorphism of $\mathbb{T}^2$ every point is regular (in Oseledec's Theorem sense), then we obtain again smooth conjugacy with its linearization. We also obtain some results on local rigidity of linear Anosov endomorphisms of $d-$torus, where $d…
In this paper we address the existence and ergodicity of non-hyperbolic attracting sets for a certain class of smooth endomorphisms on the solid torus. Such systems allow a formulation as a skew product system defined by planar diffeomorphisms have contraction on average which forced by any expanding circle map. These attractors are invariant graphs of upper semicontinuous maps which support exactly one $SRB$ measure. In our approach, these skew product systems arising from iterated function systems generated by a finitely many weak contractive diffeomorphisms. Under some conditions including …
The period set of a dynamical system is defined as the subset of all integers $n$ such that the system has a periodic orbit of length $n$. Based on known results on the intersection of period sets of torus maps within a homotopy class, we give a complete classification of the period sets of (not necessarily invertible) toral endomorphisms on the $2$--dimensional torus $\mathbb{T}^2$.
We show that a non-wandering endomorphism of the torus with invertible linear part without invariant directions and for which the critical points are in some sense generic is transitive. This improves a result of Andersson by allowing critical points and improving the volume preserving assumption.
For the conformally symplectic system \[ \left\{ \begin{aligned} \dot{q}&=H_p(q,p),\quad(q,p)\in T^*\mathbb{T}^n\\ \dot p&=-H_q(q,p)-λp, \quad λ>0 \end{aligned} \right. \] with a positive definite Hamiltonian, we discuss the variational significance of invariant Lagrangian graphs and explain how the KAM torus impacts the $W^{1,\infty}-$convergence speed of the Lax-Oleinik semigroup.
We address the problem about under what conditions an endomorphism having a dense orbit, verifies that a sufficiently close perturbed map also exhibits a dense orbit. In this direction, we give sufficient conditions, that cover a large class of examples, for endomorphisms on the n-dimensional torus to be robustly transitive: the endomorphism must be volume expanding and any large connected arc must contain a point such that its future orbit belong to an expanding region.
We study various aspects of the dynamics induced by integer matrices on the invariant rational lattices of the torus in dimension 2 and greater. Firstly, we investigate the orbit structure when the toral endomorphism is not invertible on the lattice, characterising the pretails of eventually periodic orbits. Next we study the nature of the symmetries and reversing symmetries of toral automorphisms on a given lattice, which has particular relevance to (quantum) cat maps.
We introduce the notion of strongly independent matrices and show the existence of strongly independent matrices in $GL(n,\mathbb{Z})$ over $\mathbb{Z}^n\setminus\{0\}$ when $2n+1$ is a prime number. As an application of strong independence, we give a measure rigidity result for endomorphisms on $n$-torus $\mathbb{T}^n$.
We introduce the concept of strongly independent matrices over any field, and prove the existence of such matrices for certain fields and the non-existence for algebraically closed fields. Then we apply strongly independent matrices over rational numbers to obtain a measure rigidity result for endomorphisms on $n$-torus.
Let $A$ be an expanding endomorphism on the torus ${\Bbb T}^d = {\Bbb R}^d /{\Bbb Z}^d$ with its smallest eigenvalue $λ>1$. Consider the ergodic system $({\Bbb T}^d, A, μ)$ where $μ$ is Haar measure. We prove that the correlation $ρ_{f, g}(n)$ of a pair of functions $f, g \in L^2(μ)$ is controlled by the modulus of $L^2$-continuity $Ω_{f, 2}(λ^{-n})$ and that the estimate is to some extent optimal. We also prove the central limit theorem for the stationary process $f(A^n x)$ defined by a function $f$ satisfying $Σ_n Ω_{f,2}(λ^{-n}) <\infty$. An application is given to the Ulam-von Neumann syst…
Let $\Cal S$ be an abelian finitely generated semigroup of endomorphisms of a probability space $(Ω, {\Cal A}, μ)$, with $(T_1, ..., T_d)$ a system of generators in ${\Cal S}$. Given an increasing sequence of domains $(D_n) \subset \N^d$, a question is the convergence in distribution of the normalized sequence $|D_n|^{-\frac12} \sum_{{\k} \, \in D_n} \, f \circ T^{\,{\k}}$, for $f \in L^2_0(μ)$, where $T^{\k}= T_1^{k_1} ... T_d^{k_d}$, ${\k}= (k_1, ..., k_d) \in {\N}^d$. After a preliminary spectral study when the action of $\Cal S$ has a Lebesgue spectrum, we consider $\N^d$- or $\Z^d$-action…
Dissipative mechanical systems on the torus with a friction that is proportional to the velocity are modeled by conformally symplectic maps on the annulus, which are maps that transport the symplectic form into a multiple of itself (with a conformal factor smaller than 1). It is important to understand the structure and the dynamics on the attractors. With the aid of parameters, and under suitable non-degeneracy conditions, one can obtain that, by adjusting parameters, there is an attractor that is an invariant torus whose internal dynamics is conjugate to a rotation [CCdlL13]. By analogy with…
We study homologically maximizing timelike geodesics in conformally flat tori. A causal geodesic $γ$ in such a torus is said to be homologically maximizing if one (hence every) lift of $γ$ to the universal cover is arclength maximizing. First we prove a compactness result for homologically maximizing timelike geodesics. This yields the Lipschitz continuity of the time separation of the universal cover on strict sub-cones of the cone of future pointing vectors. Then we introduce the stable time separation $\mathfrak{l}$. As an application we prove relations between the concavity properties of $…
Let $\mathcal{E}$ be the set of endomorphisms of the $n$-torus. We exhibit an example of a map such that is robustly transitive if $\mathcal{E}$ is endowed with the $C^2$ topology but is not robustly transitive if $\mathcal{E}$ is endowed with the $C^1$ topology.
Consider the set $E$ of endomorphisms of the n-torus endowed with the $C^1$ topology. A point in $E$ that is persistently singular and robustly transitive is exhibited.
We study the spectral gap for transfer operators of the skew product $F: \mathbb{T}^d\times \mathbb{T}^\ell\to \mathbb{T}^d\times \mathbb{T}^\ell$ given by $F(x,y)=(Tx, y+τ(x) \pmod{ \mathbb{Z}^\ell})$, where $T: \mathbb{T}^d\to \mathbb{T}^d$ is a $C^\infty$ uniformly expanding endomorphism, and the fiber map $τ: \mathbb{T}^d\to \mathbb{R}^\ell$ is a $C^\infty$ map. We construct a Hilbert space $\mathcal{W}^{-s}$ for any $s<0$, which contains all the Hölder functions of Hölder exponents $|s|$ on $ \mathbb{T}^d\times \mathbb{T}^\ell$. Applying the method of semiclassical analysis, we obtain the…
We study the existence of whiskered tori in a family $f_μ$ of conformally symplectic maps depending on parameters $μ$. Whiskered tori are tori on which the motion is a rotation, but they have as many expanding/contracting directions as allowed by the preservation of the geometric structure. Our main result is formulated in an "a-posteriori" format. We fix $ω$ satisfying Diophantine conditions. We assume that we are given 1) a value of the parameter $μ_0$, 2) an embedding of the torus $K_0$ into the phase space, approximately invariant under $f_{μ_0}$ in the sense that $f_{μ_0} \circ K_0 - K_0 …
Let K be an algebraically closed field of prime characteristic p, let X be a semiabelian variety defined over a finite subfield of K, let f be a regular self-map on X defined over K, let V be a subvariety of X defined over K, and let x be a K-point of X. The Dynamical Mordell-Lang Conjecture in characteristic p predicts that the set S consisting of all positive integers n for which f^n(x) lies on V is a union of finitely many arithmetic progressions, along with finitely many p-sets, which are sets consisting of all integers of the form c_1 p^{k_1 n_1} + ... + c_m p^{k_m n_m} (as we vary n_1,..…
We study the motion of a charge on a conformally flat Riemannian torus in the presence of magnetic field. We prove that for any non-zero magnetic field there always exist orbits of this motion which have conjugate points. We conjecture that the restriction of conformal flatness of the metric is not essential for this result. This would provide a ``twisted'' version of the recent generalisation of Hopf's rigidity result obtained by Burago and Ivanov.
Let $π:X\to Y$ be a factor map, where $(X,σ_X)$ and $(Y,σ_Y)$ are subshifts over finite alphabets. Assume that $X$ satisfies weak specification. Let $\ba=(a_1,a_2)\in \R^2$ with $a_1>0$ and $a_2\geq 0$. Let $f$ be a continuous function on $X$ with sufficient regularity (Hölder continuity, for instance). We show that there is a unique shift invariant measure $μ$ on $X$ that maximizes $μ(f)+a_1h_μ(σ_X)+ a_2h_{μ\circ π^{-1}}(σ_Y)$. In particular, taking $f\equiv 0$ we see that there is a unique invariant measure $μ$ on $X$ that maximizes the weighted entropy $a_1h_μ(σ_X)+ a_2h_{μ\circ π^{-1}}(σ_Y…
