In this paper, we study geometry of totally real minimal surfaces in the complex hyperquadric $Q_{N-2}$, and obtain some characterizations of the harmonic sequence generated by these minimal immersions. For totally real flat surfaces that are minimal in both $Q_{N-2}$ and $\mathbb{C}P^{N-1}$, we determine them for $N=4, 5, 6$, and give a classification theorem when they are Clifford solutions.
In this paper, the singular-value decomposition theory of complex matrices is explored to study constantly curved 2-spheres minimal in both $\mathbb{C}P^n$ and the hyperquadric of $\mathbb{C}P^n$. The moduli space of all those noncongruent ones is introduced, which can be described by certain complex symmetric matrices modulo an appropriate group action. Using this description, many examples, such as constantly curved holomorphic 2-spheres of higher degree, nonhomogenous minimal 2-spheres of constant curvature, etc., are constructed. Uniqueness is proven for the totally real constantly curved …
In this paper we study the affine focal set, which is the bifurcation set of the affine distance to submanifolds $N^n$ contained in hypersurfaces $M^{n+1}$ of the $(n+2)$-space. We give condition under which this affine focal set is a regular hypersurface and, for curves in $3$-space, we describe its stable singularities. For a given Darboux vector field $ξ$ of the immersion $N\subset M$, one can define the affine metric $g$ and the affine normal plane bundle $\mathcal{A}$. We prove that the $g$-Laplacian of the position vector belongs to $\mathcal{A}$ if and only if $ξ$ is parallel. For umbil…
In this paper, by studying the position of umbilical normal vectors in the normal bundle, we prove that pseudo-umbilical totally real submanifolds with flat normal connection in non-flat complex space forms must be minimal.
In this paper, we study totally real minimal surfaces in the quaternionic projective space $\mathbb{H}P^n$. We prove that the linearly full totally real flat minimal surfaces of isotropy order $n$ in $\mathbb{H}P^n$ are two surfaces in $\mathbb{C}P^n$, one of which is the Clifford solution, up to symplectic congruence.
We classify Hopf hypersurfaces of non-flat complex space forms CP^m(4) and CH^m(-4), denoted jointly by CQ^m(4c), that are of 2-type in the sense of B. Y. Chen, via the embedding into a suitable (pseudo) Euclidean space of Hermitian matrices by projection operators. This complements and extends earlier classifications by Martinez-Ros (minimal case) and Udagawa (CMC case), who studied only hypersurfaces of CP^m and assumed them to have constant mean curvature instead of being Hopf. Moreover, we rectify some claims in Udagawa's paper to give a complete classification of constant-mean-curvature-h…
The following results are proved: Theorem 1. A totally real semiparallel submanifold of constant curvature with parallel f-structure in the normal bundle of a Kähler manifold N is flat or a totally geodesic submanifold of N. Theorem 2. A totally real minimal semiparallel submanifold M with parallel f-structure in the normal bundle and of constant length of the second fundamental form (or equivalently of constant scalar curvature) of a complex space form N is totally geodesic in N or of positive scalar curvature. Moreover, if the scalar curvature of M vanishes, then M is flat. Theorem 3. A comp…
We study non-degenerate, totally umbilical surfaces of a special class of pseudo-Riemannian manifolds, namely Walker three-manifolds. We show that such surfaces are either one of a totally geodesic family described by Calvaruso and Van der Veken or the ambient manifold must be locally conformally flat (here the surface can also be totally geodesic). The proof makes use of a key technique deployed by Manzano and Soaum in their recent classification of totally umbilical surfaces in homogeneous Riemannian three-manifolds.
The main result of this paper is that a Lorentzian manifold is locally conformally equivalent to a manifold with recurrent lightlike vector field and totally isotropic Ricci tensor if and only if its conformal tractor holonomy admits a 2-dimensional totally isotropic invariant subspace. Furthermore, for semi-Riemannian manifolds of arbitrary signature we prove that the conformal holonomy algebra of a $C$-space is a Berger algebra. For Ricci-flat spaces we show how the conformal holonomy can be obtained by the holonomy of the ambient metric and get results for Riemannian manifolds and plane wav…
In \cite{Luo}, the present author proved that if $L$ is a contact stationary Legendrian surface in $\mathbb{S}^5$ with the canonical Sasakian structure and the square length of its second fundamental form belongs to $[0,2]$. Then we have that $L$ is either totally umbilical or is a flat minimal Legendrian torus. In this addendum we further prove that if $L$ is a totally umbilical contact stationary Legendrian surface in $\mathbb{S}^5$ , then $L$ is totally geodesic.
In this article we consider PMC surfaces in complex space forms, and we study the interaction between the notions of PMC, totally real and biconservative. We first consider PMC surfaces in non-flat complex space forms and we prove that they are biconservative if and only if totally real. Then, we find a Simons type formula for a well-chosen vector field constructed from the mean curvature vector field. Next, we prove a rigidity result for CMC biconservative surfaces in 2-dimensional complex space forms. We prove then a reduction codimension result for PMC biconservative surfaces in non-flat co…
We study the Dirichlet problem for complex Monge-Ampere equations in Hermitian manifolds with general (non-pseudoconvex) boundary. Our main result extends the classical theorem of Caffarelli, Kohn, Nirenberg and Spruck in the flat case. We also consider the equation on compact manifolds without boundary, attempting to generalize Yau's theorems in the Kaehler case. As applications of the main result we study some connections between the homogeneous complex Monge-Ampere ({\em HCMA}) equation and totally real submanifolds, and a special Dirichlet problem for the HCMA equation related to Donaldson…
We study relations between certain totally geodesic foliations of a closed flat manifold and its collapsed Gromov-Hausdorff limits. Our main results explicitly identify such collapsed limits as flat orbifolds, and provide algebraic and geometric criteria to determine whether they are singular.
We give an effective estimate for the totally ramified value number of the hyperbolic Gauss maps of complete flat fronts in the hyperbolic three-space. As a corollary, we give the upper bound of the number of exceptional values of them for some topological cases. Moreover, we obtain some new examples for this class.
In this paper we study real hypersurfaces in the complex quadric space $Q^m$ whose structure Jacobi operator commutes with their structure tensor field. We show that the Reeb curvature $α$ of such hypersurfaces is constant and if $α$ is non-zero then the hypersurface is a tube around a totally geodesic submanifold $\mathbb{C} P^k \subset Q^m$, where $m=2k$. We also consider Reeb flat hypersurfaces, namely, when the Reeb curvature is zero. We show that the tube around $\mathbb{C} P^k \subset Q^m$ ($m=2k$), with radius $\fracπ{4}$ is the only Reeb flat Hopf hypersurface with commuting Ricci tens…
We study curvature restrictions of Levi-flat real hypersurfaces in complex projective planes, whose existence is in question. We focus on its totally real Ricci curvature, the Ricci curvature of the real hypersurface in the direction of the Reeb vector field, and show that it cannot be greater than -4 along a Levi-flat real hypersurface. We rely on a finiteness theorem for the space of square integrable holomorphic 2-forms on the complement of the Levi-flat real hypersurface, where the curvature plays the role of the size of the infinitesimal holonomy of its Levi foliation.
In this paper we establish a gap phenomenon for immersed surfaces with arbitrary codimension, topology and boundaries that satisfy one of a family of systems of fourth-order anisotropic geometric partial differential equations. Examples include Willmore surfaces, stationary solitons for the surface diffusion flow, and biharmonic immersed surfaces in the sense of Chen. On the boundary we enforce either umbilic or flat boundary conditions: that the tracefree second fundamental form and its derivative or the full second fundamental form and its derivative vanish. For the umbilic boundary conditio…
