Background$\colon$ The $^{29}$F system is located at the lower-N boundary of the "island of inversion" and is an exotic, weakly bound system. Little is known about this system beyond its two-neutron separation energy ($S_{2n}$) with large uncertainties. A similar situation is found for the low-lying spectrum of its unbound binary subsystem $^{28}$F.
Purpose$\colon$ To investigate the configuration mixing, matter radius and neutron-neutron correlations in the ground state of $^{29}$F within a three-body model, exploring the possibility of $^{29}$F to be a two-neutron halo nucleus.
Method$\colon$ The $^{29}$F ground-state wave function is built within the hyperspherical formalism by using an analytical transformed harmonic oscillator basis. The Gogny-Pires-Tourreil (GPT) nn interaction with central, spin-orbit and tensor terms is employed in the present calculations, together with different core$+n$ potentials constrained by the available experimental information on $^{28}$F.
Results$\colon$ The $^{29}$F ground-state configuration mixing and its matter radius are computed for different choices of the $^{28}$F structure and $S_{2n}$ value. The admixture of d-waves with pf components are found to play an important role, favoring the dominance of dineutron configurations in the wave function. Our computed radii show a mild sensitivity to the $^{27}$F$+n$ potential and $S_{2n}$ values. The relative increase of the matter radius with respect to the $^{27}$F core lies in the range 0.1-0.4 fm depending upon these choices.
Conclusions$\colon$ Our three-body results for $^{29}$F indicate the presence of a moderate halo structure in its ground state, which is enhanced by larger intruder components. This finding calls for an experimental confirmation.
The present contribution summarizes the content and slightly updates the discussion of a recently proposed theoretical analysis of the halo phenomenon in many-fermion systems. We focus here on applications to potential neutron halos in mid-mass nuclei.
We present a new observable to study halo nuclei. This new observable is a particular ratio of angular distributions for elastic breakup and scattering. For one-neutron halo nuclei, it is shown to be independent of the reaction mechanism and to provide significant information about the structure of the projectile, including binding energy, partial-wave configuration, and radial wave function of the halo. This observable offers new capabilities for the study of nuclear structure far from stability.
Background: One-nucleon knockout reactions provide insightful information on the single-particle structure of nuclei. When applied to one-neutron halo nuclei, they are purely peripheral, suggesting that they could be properly modeled by describing the projectile within a Halo Effective Field Theory (Halo-EFT). Purpose: We reanalyze the one-neutron knockout measurements of $^{11}$Be and $^{15}$C-both one-neutron halo nuclei-on beryllium at about 60MeV/nucleon. We consider Halo-EFT descriptions of these nuclei which already provide excellent agreement with breakup and transfer data. Method: We i…
I present results and highlight aspects of halo EFT to loosely bound systems composed of nucleons and alpha particles, with emphasis on Coulomb interactions.
Using a fully quantum mechanical post-form finite-range distorted-wave Born approximation theory of Coulomb breakup, I study the parallel momentum distribution of the core in the Coulomb breakup of suggested excited-state one-neutron halo nuclei considered in their different bound excited states. Narrow momentum distributions obtained in the present calculations for some cases indicate the possibilities of the excited-state halo structure in the nuclei under consideration and therefore favor the previous predictions.

The one-neutron halos lying in the island of inversion around $N=20$ has provided the podium, to study the variation of total low-lying dipole strength with the neutron separation energy. We study three probable p-wave one-neutron halo candidates 31Ne and 34Na and 37Mg lying in the island of inversion. A simple analytic model has been used for the calculation of the total low-lying dipole strength for the medium mass p-wave one-neutron halos. A correction factor to this analytical model has been estimated with a realistic Woods-Saxon potential. A comparison of these analytic calculations has b…
We present model results for the two-halo-neutron correlation functions, $C_{nn}$, for the dissociation process of light exotic nuclei modelled as two neutrons and a core. A minimum is predicted for $C_{nn}$ as a function of the relative momentum of the two neutrons, $p_{nn}$, due to the coherence of the neutrons in the halo and final state interaction. Studying the systems $^{14}$Be, $^{11}$Li and $^{6}$He within this model, we show that the numerical asymptotic limit, $C_{nn}\to 1$, occurs only for $p_{nn}\gtrsim$ 400 MeV$/c$, while such limit is reached for much lower values of $p_{nn}$ in …
A deformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in continuum has been developed for the study of neutron halos in deformed nuclei and the halo phenomenon in deformed weakly bound nuclei is investigated. Magnesium and neon isotopes are studied and some results are presented for the deformed neutron-rich and weakly bound nuclei 44Mg and 36Ne. The core of the former nucleus is prolate, but the halo has a slightly oblate shape. This indicates a decoupling of the halo orbitals from the deformation of the core. The generic conditions for the existence of halos in deformed nuclei and for the occurr…
A microscopic self-consistent triaxial relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in continuum (TRHBc), which simultaneously takes into account the triaxiality and pairing correlations as well as continuum effects, is established and applied to explore the novel halo phenomenon in aluminum isotopes. The experimental proton drip line and the available data of neutron separation energies and charge radii are reproduced well without any free parameters. The neutron-richest odd-odd aluminum isotope observed so far, 42Al, is predicted to be triaxially deformed with beta=0.35 and gamma=42. Its one-neutr…
The exotic phenomenon of two-neutron halos and 2n-radioactivity are explored in the neutron-rich $^{40,42,44}$Mg by employing various variants of the relativistic mean-field approach. The extended tail of spatial density distributions including the enhanced neutron radii and skin thickness, pairing correlations, single-particle spectrum and wave functions predict $^{40,42,44}$Mg to be strong candidates for deformed neutron halos. Weakening of magicity at N$=$28 plays a significant role in the existence of a weakly bound halo in $^{40}$Mg which is currently the heaviest isotope of Mg accessible…
We present a theory of one-neutron halo breakup reactions within the framework of post-form distorted wave Born approximation wherein pure Coulomb, pure nuclear and their interference terms are treated consistently in a single setup. This formalism is used to study the breakup of one-neutron halo nucleus 11Be on several targets of different masses. We investigate the role played by the pure Coulomb, pure nuclear and the Coulomb-nuclear interference terms by calculating several reaction observables. The Coulomb-nuclear interference terms are found to be important for more exclusive observables.
We have applied the Gamow shell model to calculate nuclear observables of $^{26-31}$Ne isotopes pertaining to one-neutron halo structure, these nuclei being situated close to neutron drip-line. As both many-body correlations and continuum coupling are taken into account in that approach, halo structure can be analyzed properly. Our calculations provide good descriptions of $^{26-31}$Ne, where asymptotic behavior is crucial for that matter. One-body density, neutron root-mean-square radii of $^{26-31}$Ne, and one-neutron overlap functions of $^{29,31}$Ne have been calculated as well. Our result…
Within the complex-energy configuration interaction framework, we study correlations of valence neutrons to explain the behavior of charge radii in the neutron halo nuclei $^{6,8}$He. We find that the experimentally observed decrease of the charge radius between $^6$He and $^8$He is caused by a subtle interplay between three effects: dineutron correlations, a spin-orbit contribution to the charge radius, and a core swelling effect. We demonstrate that two-neutron angular correlations in the $2^+_1$ resonance of $^6$He differ markedly from the ground-state correlations in $^{6,8}$He.
Halo phenomenon in deformed nuclei is studied by using a fully self-consistent deformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov model in a spherical Woods-Saxon basis with the proper asymptotic behavior at large distance from the nuclear center. Taking a deformed neutron-rich and weakly bound nucleus $^{44}$Mg as an example and by examining contributions of the halo, deformation effects, and large spatial extensions, we show a decoupling of the halo orbitals from the deformation of the core.
We discuss the difference between neutron halos and neutron skins matching to our usual thinking of a skin as being connected to a body whereas a halo is, in some sense, disconnected from the body. We emphasize that the existence of one or more neutrons behaving incoherently with respect to the rest of the nucleons in a nucleus can match the picture of a neutron halo.
The properties of the deformed halo of 31Ne were discussed using the antisymmetrized molecular dynamics plus resonating group method (AMD+RGM). The AMD+RGM calculations describe a large neutron radius for the ground state and reveal that the ground state is dominated by core-excited components. The resonant states were also investigated by applying the analytical continuation of the coupling constant. It was found that the first excited state (the 5/2- state) is also dominated by core-excited components and has a small decay width, whereas the second excited state (the 7/2- state) is dominated…
We study low-lying multipole strength in neutron-halo nuclei. The strength depends only on a few low-energy constants: the neutron separation energy, the asymptotic normalization coefficient of the bound state wave function, and the scattering length that contains the information on the interaction in the continuum. The shape of the transition probability shows a characteristic dependence on few scaling parameters and the angular momenta. The total E1 strength is related to the root-mean-square radius of the neutron wave function in the ground state and shows corresponding scaling properties. …
Beta-delayed proton emission from the neutron halo ground state of $^{11}$Be raised much attention due to the unusually high decay rate. It was argued that this may be due to the existence of a resonance just above the proton decay threshold. In this Letter, we use the lenses of real-energy continuum shell model to describe several observables including the Gamow-Teller rates for the $β^-$-delayed $α$ and proton decays, and argue that, within our model, the large $β^-{\rm p}$ branching ratio cannot be reconciled with other data.
In this work we propose a new method to measure the evolution of the neutron skin thickness between different isotopes. We consider antiproton-nucleus interactions close to the production threshold of $Λ\overlineΛ$ and $Σ\overlineΛ$ pairs. At low energies, $Λ\overlineΛ$ pairs are produced in p + p collisions, while $Σ\overlineΛ$ pairs can only be produced in p + n interactions. Measuring these cross sections provides information on the neutron skin thickness
Essential properties of halo nuclei can be described in terms of a few low-energy constants. For neutron halo nuclei, analytical results can be found for wave functions and electromagnetic transition matrix-elements in simple but well-adapted models. These wave functions can be used to study nuclear reactions; an especially simple and instructive example is Coulomb excitation. A systematic expansion in terms of small parameters can be given. We present scaling laws for excitation amplitudes and cross sections. The results can be used to analyze experiments like ${}^{11}$Be Coulomb excitation. …
Halo nuclei are located far from stability and exhibit a very peculiar structure. Due to their very short lifetime, they are often studied through reactions. Breakup reactions are of particular interest since their cross sections are large for these loosely-bound nuclei. Inclusive measurements of breakup--also called knockout reactions--have even higher statistics. In this proceeding, we study which nuclear-structure information can be inferred from the parallel-momentum distribution of the core of one-neutron halo nuclei after the knockout of its halo neutron. In particular, we analyse the in…
The nuclei 11Be and 11Li provide paradigmatic examples of one-and two- neutron halo systems. Because the reaction 1H(11Li,9Li)3H is dominated by successive transfer, one can use the quantitative picture emerging from a nu- clear field theory description of the structure and reaction mechanism of the above Cooper pair transfer process and of the 2H(10Be,11Be)1H and 1H(11Be,10Be)2H reactions, to shed light on the structure of 10Li. This analysis provides important support for a parity inverted scenario with a 1/2+ virtual state at about 0.2 MeV.
Some one-neutron halo nuclei can emit a proton in a beta decay of the halo neutron. The branching ratio towards this rare decay mode is calculated within a two-body potential model of the initial core+neutron bound state and final core+proton scattering states. The decay probability per second is evaluated for the $^{11}$Be, $^{19}$C and $^{31}$Ne one-neutron halo nuclei. It is very sensitive to the neutron separation energy.
The tunneling of composite systems, where breakup may occur during the barrier penetration process is considered in connection with the fusion of halo-like radioactive, neutron- and proton-rich nuclei on heavy targets. The large amount of recent and new data clearly indicates that breakup hinders the fusion at near and below the Coulomb barrier energies. However, clear evidence for the halo enhancements, seems to over ride the breakup hindrance at lower energies, owing, to a large extent, to the extended matter density distribution. In particular we report here that at sub-barrier energies the…
The neutron-rich $^{11}$Li halo nucleus is unique among nuclei with known separation energies by its ability to emit a proton and a neutron in a $β$ decay process. The branching ratio towards this rare decay mode is evaluated within a three-body model for the initial bound state and with Coulomb three-body final scattering states. The branching ratio should be comprised between two extreme cases, i.e.\ a lower bound $6 \times 10^{-12}$ obtained with a pure Coulomb wave and an upper bound $5 \times 10^{-10}$ obtained with a plane wave. A simple model with modified Coulomb waves provides plausib…
We set up a formalism to calculate the charge form factors of two-neutron halo nuclei with S-wave neutron-core interactions in the framework of the halo effective field theory. The method is applied to some known and suspected halo nuclei. In particular, we calculate the form factors and charge radii relative to the core to leading order in the halo EFT and compare to experiments where they are available. Moreover, we investigate the general dependence of the charge radius on the core mass and the one- and two-neutron separation energies.
We explore the description of the bound $^{19}$B isotope in terms of a $^{17}$B+n+n three-body system where the two-body subsystems $^{17}$B+n and neutron-neutron (nn) have virtual states close to the continuum. Dimensionless scaling functions for the root-mean-square (rms) radii are defined and studied for different parameters of the neutron-core potential and considering three different models for neutron-neutron interaction. The scaling functions for the radii are rooted on the universal behavior of three-body systems close to the Efimov limit and depend only on dimensionless quantities for…
Breakup reactions of loosely-bound nuclei are often used to extract structure and/or astrophysical information. Here we compare three non-perturbative reaction theories often used when analyzing breakup experiments, namely the continuum discretized coupled channel model, the time-dependent approach relying on a semiclassical approximation, and the dynamical eikonal approximation. Our test case consists of the breakup of 15C on Pb at 68 MeV/nucleon and 20 MeV/nucleon.
We study the Coulomb dissociation of the 19C nucleus in an effective field theory that uses the 18C core and the neutron as effective degrees of freedom and exploits the separation of scales in this halo system. We extract the effective-range parameters and the separation energy of the halo neutron from the experimental data taken at RIKEN by Nakamura et al. We obtain a value of (575 +/- 55(stat.) +/- 20(EFT)) keV for the one-neutron separation energy of 19C, and (7.75 +/- 0.35(stat.) +/- 0.3(EFT)) fm for the 18C-neutron scattering length. The width of the longitudinal momentum distribution pr…
We perform a detailed analysis for the structure of 31F, which is a candidate of the halo nucleus. We calculate the radius and reaction cross-section using a three-body model of 29F+n+n and discuss how the competition between the neutron-pairing and the single-particle energy induces structural changes of 31F. The present analysis further clarifies a new aspect of the anti-halo efect that suppresses the halo structure.
Using halo effective field theory (EFT), an expansion in $R_{core}/R_{halo}$, where $R_{core}$ is the radius of the core and $R_{halo}$ the radius of the halo nucleus, we calculate the charge and neutron form factors of the two-neutron halo nuclei $^{11}$Li, $^{14}$Be, and $^{22}$C to next-to-leading-order (NLO) by treating them as an effective three-body system. From the form factors we extract the point charge and point matter radii, inter-neutron distance, and neutron opening angle. Agreement is found with existing experimental extractions. Results are given for the point charge and point m…
Recently a new observable to study halo nuclei was introduced, based on the ratio between breakup and elastic angular cross sections. This new observable is shown by the analysis of specific reactions to be independent of the reaction mechanism and to provide nuclear-structure information of the projectile. Here we explore the details of this ratio method, including the sensitivity to binding energy and angular momentum of the projectile. We also study the reliability of the method with breakup energy. Finally, we provide guidelines and specific examples for experimentalists who wish to apply …
In this paper we show how effective parameters such as effective binding energies can be defined for a proton in the combined nuclear-Coulomb potential, including also the target potential, in the case in which the proton is bound in a nucleus which is partner of a nuclear reaction. Using such effective parameters the proton behaves similarly to a neutron. In this way some unexpected results obtained from dynamical calculations for reactions initiated by very weakly bound proton halo nuclei can be interpreted. Namely the fact that stripping dominates the nuclear breakup cross section which in …
The nucleon density distributions and the thickness of pure neutron matter in Ca isotopes were systematically studied using the Skyrme-Hartree-Fock model (SHF) from the $β$-stability line to the neutron drip-line. The pure neutron matter, related with the neutron skin or halo, was shown to depend not only on the Fermi levels of the neutrons but also on the orbital angular momentum of the valence neutrons. New definitions for the thickness of pure neutron matter are proposed.
The electromagnetic form factors for single neutron halo nuclei Be-11, C-15 and C-19 are calculated. The calculations are performed in halo effective field theory (EFT) where the halo nuclei are approximated as made of a single neutron and a core. The form factors depend on the single neutron separation energy, the s-wave neutron-core scattering effective range and a two-body current. The EFT expressions are presented to leading order for C-15 and next-to-leading order for Be-11 and C-19.
We calculate the $E1$ breakup of the $2n$ halo nucleus $^{11}$Li in Halo Effective Field Theory (Halo EFT) at leading order. In Halo EFT, $^{11}$Li is treated as a three-body system of a $^{9}$Li core and two neutrons. We present a detailed investigation of final-state interactions (FSI) in the neutron-neutron $(nn)$ and neutron-core $(nc)$ channels. We employ Moller operators to formulate an expansion scheme that satisfies the non-energy-weighted cluster sum rule and successively includes higher-order terms in the multiple-scattering series for the FSI. Computing the $E1$ strength up to third…
Background: Information about the structure of halo nuclei are often inferred from one-neutron knockout reactions. Typically the parallel-momentum distribution of the remaining core is measured after a high-energy collision of the exotic projectile with a light target. Purpose: We study how the structure of halo nuclei affects knockout observables considering an eikonal model of reaction. Method: To evaluate the sensitivity of both the diffractive and stripping parallel-momentum distributions to the structure of halo nuclei, we consider several descriptions of the projectile within a halo effe…
We exploit the possibility of new configurations in three-body halo nuclei - Samba type - (the neutron-core form a bound system) as a doorway to Borromean systems. The nuclei $^{12}$Be, $^{15}$B, $^{23}$N and $^{27}$F are of such nature, in particular $^{23}$N with a half-life of 37.7 s and a halo radius of 6.07 fm is an excellent example of Samba-halo configuration. The fusion below the barrier of the Samba halo nuclei with heavy targets could reveal the so far elusive enhancement and a dominance of one-neutron over two-neutron transfers, in contrast to what was found recently for the Borrome…
The connection between the neutron halo observed in light neutron rich nuclei and the neutron radiative capture process is outlined. We show how nuclear structure information such as spectroscopic factors and external components of the radial wave function of loosely bound states can be derived from the neutron capture cross section. The link between the direct radiative capture and the Coulomb dissociation process is elucidated.
We report the measurement of reaction cross sections ($σ_R^{\rm ex}$) of $^{27,29}$F with a carbon target at RIKEN. The unexpectedly large $σ_R^{\rm ex}$ and derived matter radius identify $^{29}$F as the heaviest two-neutron Borromean halo to date. The halo is attributed to neutrons occupying the $2p_{3/2}$ orbital, thereby vanishing the shell closure associated with the neutron number $N = 20$. The results are explained by state-of-the-art shell model calculations. Coupled-cluster computations based on effective field theories of the strong nuclear force describe the matter radius of $^{27}$…
Hanbury Brown-Twiss (HBT) results of the nucleon-nucleon correlation function have been presented for the nuclear reactions with neutron-rich projectiles (Be isotopes) using an event-generator, the Isospin-Dependent Quantum Molecular Dynamics model. We explore that the relationship between the binding energy per nucleon of the projectiles and the strength of the neutron-proton HBT at small relative momentum. Moreover, we reveal the relationship between the single neutron separation energy and the strength of the halo neutron-proton HBT. Results show that neutron-proton HBT results are sensitiv…
Electromagnetic strength functions of halo nuclei exhibit universal features that can be described in terms of characteristic scale parameters. For a nucleus with nucleon+core structure the reduced transition probability, as determined, e.g., by Coulomb dissociation experiments, shows a typical shape that depends on the nucleon separation energy and the orbital angular momenta in the initial and final states. The sensitivity to the final-state interaction (FSI) between the nucleon and the core can be studied systematically by varying the strength of the interaction in the continuum. In the cas…
Although the neutron (n) does not carry a total electric charge, its charge and magnetization distributions represented in momentum space by the electromagnetic form factors, $F_1^{(n)} (q^2)$ and $F_2^{(n)} (q^2)$, lead to an electromagnetic potential of the neutron. Using this fact, we calculate the electromagnetic corrections to the binding energy, $B_d$, of the deuteron and a one neutron halo nucleus (11Be), by evaluating the neutron-proton and the neutron-charged core (10Be) potential, respectively. The correction to $B_d$ (~9 keV) is comparable to that arising due to the inclusion of the…
The even-Z odd-N neutron-halo nuclei, which are the possible lightest neutron-halo nuclei heavier than $^{37}$Mg, are explored by studying the shell-structure unique in weakly-bound neutrons for spherical or deformed shape. It is pointed out that due to the narrowed N=50 spherical energy-gap and a few resulting close-lying neutron one-particle levels, 1g$_{9/2}$, 3s$_{1/2}$, and 2d$_{5/2}$, for spherical shape, nuclei with some weakly-bound neutrons filling in those levels may be deformed and have a good chance to show deformed s-wave halo. Promising candidates are $^{71}_{24}$Cr$_{47}$, $^{73…
Fusion reactions of neutron-halo nuclei are investigated theoretically with a three-body model. The time-dependent wave-packet method is used to solve the three-body Schrodinger equation. The halo neutron behaves as a spectator during the Coulomb dissociation process of the projectile. The fusion cross sections of 11Be-209Bi and 6He-238U are calculated and are compared with measurements. Our calculation indicates that the fusion cross section is slightly hindered by the presence of weakly bound neutrons.
The proton and neutron density distributions, one- and two-neutron separation energies and radii of nuclei for which neutron halos are experimentally observed, are calculated using the self-consistent Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov method with the effective interaction of Gogny. Halo factors are evaluated assuming hydrogen-like antiproton wave functions. The factors agree well with experimental data. They are close to those obtained with Skyrme forces and with the relativistic mean field approach.
Giant neutron halos in medium-heavy nuclei are studied in the framework of the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB) approach with Skyrme interactions. The appearance of such structures depends sensitively on the effective interaction adopted. This is illustrated by comparing the predictions of SLy4 and SkI4 in the Ca and Zr isotopic chains. The former force gives no halo effect, the latter predicts a neutron halo in the Zr chain with A>122 due to the weakly bound orbitals 3p1/2 and 3p3/2. The structure of the halo is analyzed in terms of the occupation probabilities of these orbitals and their partia…

Lying at the lower edge of the `island of inversion', neutron-rich Fluorine isotopes ($^{29-31}$F) provide a curious case to study the configuration mixing in this part of the nuclear landscape. Recent studies have suggested that a prospective two-neutron halo in the dripline nucleus $^{31}$F could be linked to the occupancy of the $pf$ intruder configurations. Focusing on configuration mixing, matter radii and neutron-neutron ($nn$) correlations in the ground-state of $^{31}$F, we explore various scenarios to analyze its possible halo nature as well as the low-lying electric dipole ($E$1) res…
We consider the Parity Nonconserving (PNC) mixing in the ground state of exotic (halo) nuclei caused by the PNC weak interaction between outer neutron and nucleons within nuclear interior. For the nucleus $^{11}Be$ as an example of typical nucleus with neutron halo, we use analytical model for the external neutron wave functions to estimate the scale of the PNC mixing. The amplitude of the PNC mixing in halo state is found to be an order of magnitude bigger than that of typical PNC mixing between the ``normal'' nuclear states in nearby nuclei. The enhanced PNC mixing in halo cloud is proportio…
Relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov (RHB) theory in coordinate space is used to describe the chain of even-even Zirconium isotopes reaching from Zr116 to the drip line nucleus Zr140. Pairing correlations are taken into account by a density dependent force of zero range. For neutron numbers larger than the magic number N=82 a giant neutron halo outside the core of Zr122 is observed. It is formed by up to six neutrons.
We exploit the separation of scales in weakly-bound nuclei to compute E2 transitions and electric form factors in a Halo EFT framework. The relevant degrees of freedom are the core and the halo neutron. The EFT expansion is carried out in powers of $R_{core}/R_{halo}$, where $R_{core}$ and $R_{halo}$ denote the length scales of the core and halo, respectively. We include the strong $s$-wave and $d$-wave interactions by introducing dimer fields. The dimer propagators are regulated by employing the power divergence subtraction scheme and matched to the effective range expansion in the respective…
It is shown that the hole in the centre of $ ^{3}H $, $ ^{3}He $ and $ ^{4}He $, the neutron halos in nuclei, the $ α- $ and other clustering effects in nuclei and the nuclear molecules all basically arise due to the same underlying effect. We shall show that all these ground state properties of nuclei are manifestations of quark effects. The role of triton clustering in very neutron rich nuclei is emphasized. All these require the concept of hidden colour states which arise from confinement ideas of QCD for the multi-quark systems. This provides comprehensive understanding of diverse nuclear …
