This paper deals with the homogenization of the reaction-diffusion equations in a domain containing periodically distributed holes of size $\varepsilon$, with a dynamical boundary condition of reactive-diffusive type, i.e., we consider the following nonlinear boundary condition on the surface of the holes $$ \nabla u_\varepsilon \cdot ν+\varepsilon\,\displaystyle\frac{\partial u_\varepsilon}{\partial t}=\varepsilon\,δΔ_Γu_\varepsilon-\varepsilon\,g(u_\varepsilon), $$ where $Δ_Γ$ denotes the Laplace-Beltrami operator on the surface of the holes, $ν$ is the outward normal to the boundary, $δ>0$ plays the role of a surface diffusion coefficient and $g$ is the nonlinear term. We generalize our previous results established in the case of a dynamical boundary condition of pure-reactive type, i.e., with $δ=0$. We prove the convergence of the homogenization process to a nonlinear reaction-diffusion equation whose diffusion matrix takes into account the reactive-diffusive condition on the surface of the holes.
In this paper,we will study the homogenization of $p$-Laplacian with obstacles in perforated domain, where the holes are periodically distributed and have random size. And we also assume that the $p$-capacity of each hole is stationary ergodic.
This paper is concerned with boundary regularity estimates in the homogenization of elliptic equations with rapidly oscillating and high-contrast coefficients. We establish uniform nontangential-maximal-function estimates for the Dirichlet, regularity, and Neumann problems with $L^2$ boundary data in a periodically perforated Lipschitz domain.
We consider the homogenization of the Stokes equations in a domain perforated with a large number of small holes which are periodically distributed. In [1,2], Allaire gave a systematic study on this problem. In this paper, we introduce a unified proof for different sizes of holes for the homogenization of the Stokes equations by employing a generalized cell problem inspired by Tartar [17].
In this article, we study homogenization of a parabolic linear problem governed by a coefficient matrix with rapid spatial and temporal oscillations in periodically perforated domains with homogeneous Neumann data on the boundary of the holes. We prove results adapted to the problem for a characterization of multiscale limits for gradients and very weak multiscale convergence.
We consider the homogenization of the compressible Navier-Stokes-Fourier equations in a randomly perforated domain in $\mathbb{R}^3$. Assuming that the particle size scales like $\varepsilon^α$, where $\varepsilon>0$ is their mutual distance and $α>3$, we show that in the limit $\varepsilon\to 0$, the velocity, density, and temperature converge to a solution of the same system. We follow the methods of Lu and Pokorný [https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jde.2020.10.032], where they considered the full system in periodically perforated domains.
In this paper, we study the homogenization problems for the stationary compressible Navier-Stokes system in a bounded 2D domain, where the domain is perforated with very tiny holes (or obstacles) whose diameters are much smaller than their mutual distances. We obtain that the process of homogenization doesn't change the motion of the fluids. From another point of view, we obtain the same system of equations in the asymptotic limit. It is the first result of homogenization problem in the compressible case in 2 dimensions.
We consider the Stokes equations on a bounded perforated domaincompleted with non-zero constant boundary conditions on the holes. We investigate configurations forwhich the holes are identical spheres and their number N goes to infinity while their radius1/N tends to zero. We prove that, under the assumption that there is no concentrationin the distribution of holes, the solution is well approximated asymptotically by solving aStokes-Brinkman problem.
In this paper, we develop a viscosity method for Homogenization of Nonlinear Parabolic Equations constrained by highly oscillating obstacles or Dirichlet data in perforated domains. The Dirichlet data on the perforated domain can be considered as a constraint or an obstacle. Homogenization of nonlinear eigen value problems has been also considered to control the degeneracy of the Porous medium equation in perforated domains. For the simplicity, we consider obstacles that consist of cylindrical columns distributed periodically and perforated domains with punctured balls. If the decay rate of th…
In this paper, we consider the homogenization problems for evolutionary incompressible Navier-Stokes system in three dimensional domains perforated with a large number of small holes which are periodically located. We first establish certain uniform estimates for the weak solutions. To overcome the extra difficulties coming from the time derivative, we use the idea of Temam and consider the equations by integrating in time variable. After suitably extending the weak solutions to the whole domain, we employ the generalized cell problem to study the limit process.
We prove a homogenization theorem for a class of quadratic convolution energies with random coefficients. Under suitably stated hypotheses of ergodicity and stationarity we prove that the $Γ$-limit of such energy is almost surely a deterministic quadratic Dirichlet-type integral functional, whose integrand can be characterized through an asymptotic formula. The proof of this characterization relies on results on the asymptotic behaviour of subadditive processes. The proof of the limit theorem uses a blow-up technique common for local energies, that can be extended to this `asymptotically-local…
In this paper, we focus on the homogenization process of the non-local elliptic boundary value problem $$\mathcal{L}_\varepsilon^s u_\varepsilon =(-\nabla\cdot (A_\varepsilon(x)\nabla))^{s}u_\varepsilon=f \mbox{ in } \mathcal O, $$ with $0<s<1$, considering non-homogeneous Dirichlet type condition outside of the bounded domain $\mathcal O\subseteq \mathbb{R}^n$. We find the homogenized problem by using the $H$-convergence method, as $\varepsilon\to 0$, under standard uniform ellipticity, boundedness and symmetry assumptions on coefficients $A_\varepsilon(x)$, with the homogenized coefficients …
We establish interior Lipschitz estimates at the macroscopic scale for solutions to systems of linear elasticity with rapidly oscillating periodic coefficients and mixed boundary conditions in domains periodically perforated at a microscopic scale $\varepsilon$ by establishing $H^1$-convergence rates for such solutions. The interior estimates are derived directly without the use of compactness via an argument presented in [3] that was adapted for elliptic equations in [2] and [11]. As a consequence, we derive a Liouville type estimate for solutions to the systems of linear elasticity in unboun…
We study the inverse of the divergence operator on a domain $Ω\subset R^3$ perforated by a system of tiny holes. We show that such inverse can be constructed on the Lebesgue space $L^p(Ω)$ for any $1< p < 3$, with a norm independent of perforation, provided the holes are suitably small and their mutual distance suitably large. Applications are given to problems arising in homogenization of steady compressible fluid flows.
We consider the homogenization to the Brinkman equations for the incompressible Stokes equations in a bounded domain which is perforated by a random collection of small spherical holes. This problem has been studied by the same authors in [A. Giunti and R.M. Höfer, Homogenization for the Stokes equations in randomly perforated domains under almost minimal assumptions on the size of the holes] where convergence of the fluid velocity field towards the solution of the Brinkman equations has been established. In the present we consider the pressure associated to the solution of the Stokes equation…
In this paper, we consider the Stokes equations in a perforated domain. When the number of holes increases while their radius tends to 0, it is proven in [L. Desvillettes, F. Golse and V. Ricci. The mean field limit for solid particles in a Navier-Stokes flow. J. Stat. Phys. 131: 941-967, 2008], under suitable dilution assumptions, that the solution is well-approximated asymptotically by solving a Stokes-Brinkman equation. We provide here quantitative estimates in L p-norms of this convergence.
We analyze behavior of weak solutions to compressible fluid flows in a bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^3$, randomly perforated by tiny balls with random size. Assuming the radii of the balls scale like $\varepsilon^α$, $α> 3$, with $\varepsilon$ denoting the average distance between the balls, the problem homogenize with the same limiting equation. Our main contribution is a construction of the Bogovski\uı operator, uniformly in $\varepsilon$, without any assumptions on the minimal distance between the balls.
In our recent work [8], we have studied the homogenization of the Poisson equation in a class of non periodically perforated domains. In this paper, we examine the case of the Stokes system. We consider a porous medium in which the characteristic distance between two holes, denoted by $ε$, is proportional to the characteristic size of the holes. It is well known (see [1],[17] and [19]) that, when the holes are periodically distributed in space, the velocity converges to a limit given by the Darcy's law when the size of the holes tends to zero. We generalize these results to the setting of [8].…
In this note, we consider the homogenization of the compressible Navier-Stokes equations in a periodically perforated domain in $\mathbb{R}^3$. Assuming that the particle size scales like $\varepsilon^3$, where $\varepsilon>0$ is their mutual distance, and that the Mach number decreases fast enough, we show that in the limit $\varepsilon\to 0$, the velocity and density converge to a solution of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations with Brinkman term. We strongly follow the methods of Höfer, Kowalczik and Schwarzacher [arXiv:2007.09031], where they proved convergence to Darcy's law for th…
We study the convergence of the Method of Reflections for the Dirichlet problem of the Poisson and the Stokes equations in perforated domains which consist in the exterior of balls. We prove that the method converges if the balls are contained in a bounded region and the density of the electrostatic capacity of the balls is sufficiently small. If the capacity density is too large or the balls extend to the whole space, the method diverges, but we provide a suitable modification of the method that converges to the solution of the Dirichlet problem also in this case. We give new proofs of classi…
We study a Stokes system posed in a thin perforated layer with a Navier-slip condition on the internal oscillating boundary from two viewpoints: 1) dimensional reduction of the layer and 2) homogenization of the perforated structure. Assuming the perforations are periodic, both aspects can be described through a small parameter $ε>0,$ which is related to the thickness of the layer as well as the size of the periodic structure. By letting $ε$ tend to zero, we prove that the sequence of solutions converges to a limit which satisfies a well-defined macroscopic problem. More precisely, the limit v…
We study the Poisson equation in a perforated domain with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions. The size of the perforations is denoted by $ε$ > 0, and is proportional to the distance between neighbouring perforations. In the periodic case, the homogenized problem (obtained in the limit $ε$ $\rightarrow$ 0) is well understood (see [21]). We extend these results to a non-periodic case which is defined as a localized deformation of the periodic setting. We propose geometric assumptions that make precise this setting, and we prove results which extend those of the periodic case: existence of…
In this study, we prove results on the weak solvability and homogenization of a microscopic semi-linear elliptic system posed in perforated media. The model presented here explores the interplay between stationary diffusion and both surface and volume chemical reactions in porous media. Our interest lies in deriving homogenization limits (upscaling) for alike systems and particularly in justifying rigorously the obtained averaged descriptions. Essentially, we prove the well-posedness of the microscopic problem ensuring also the positivity and boundedness of the involved concentrations and then…
We revisit the periodic homogenization of Dirichlet problems for the Laplace operator in perforated domains, and establish a unified proof that works for different regimes of hole-cell ratios, that is the ratio between the scaling factor of the holes and that of the periodic cells. The approach is then made quantitative and it yields correctors and error estimates for vanishing hole-cell ratios. For positive volume fraction of holes, the approach is just the standard oscillating test function method; for vanishing volume fraction of holes, we study asymptotic behaviors of a properly rescaled c…
In this paper we provide converge rates for the homogenization of the Poisson problem with Dirichlet boundary conditions in a randomly perforated domain of $\mathbb{R}^d$, $d \geq 3$. We assume that the holes that perforate the domain are spherical and are generated by a rescaled marked point process $(Φ, \mathcal{R})$. The point process $Φ$ generating the centres of the holes is either a Poisson point process or the lattice $\mathbb{Z}^d$; the marks $\mathcal{R}$ generating the radii are unbounded i.i.d random variables having finite $(d-2+β)$-moment, for $β> 0$. We study the rate of converge…
We revisit the homogenization problem for the Poisson equation in periodically perforated domains with zero Neumann data at the boundary of the holes and prescribed Dirichlet data at the outer boundary. It is known that, if the periodicity of the holes goes to zero but their volume fraction remains fixed and positive, the limit problem is a Dirichlet boundary value problem posed in the domain without the holes, and the effective diffusion coefficients are non-trivially modified; if that volume fraction goes to zero instead, i.e. the holes are dilute, the effective operator remains the Laplacia…
This paper was devoted to study the quantitative homogenization problems for nonlinear elliptic operators in perforated domains. We obtained a sharp error estimate $O(\varepsilon)$ when the problem was anchored in the reference domain $\varepsilonω$. If concerning a bounded perforated domain, one will see a bad influence from the boundary layers, which leads to the loss of the convergence rate by $O(\varepsilon^{1/2})$. Equipped with the error estimates, we developed both interior and boundary Lipschitz estimates at large-scales. As an application, we received the so-called quenched Calderón-Z…
This paper deals with the homogenization of the Poisson equation in a bounded domain of $\mathbb{R}^d$, $d>2$, which is perforated by a random number of small spherical holes with random radii and positions. We show that for a class of stationary short-range correlated measures for the centres and radii of the holes, we recover in the homogenized limit an averaged analogue of the "strange term" obtained by Cioranescu and Murat in the periodic case [D. Cioranescu and F. Murat, \textit{Un term étrange venu d'ailleurs} (1986)]. We stress that we only require that the random radii have finite $(d-…
In this paper, we determine the convergence speed of an upscaling of a pseudo-parabolic system containing drift terms with scale separation of size $ε\ll 1$. Both the upscaling and convergence speed determination exploit a natural spatial-temporal decomposition, which splits the pseudo-parabolic system into a spatial elliptic partial differential equation and a temporal ordinary differential equation. We extend the applicability to space-time domains that are a product of spatial and temporal domains, such as a time-independent perforated spatial domain. Finally, for special cases we show conv…
As a main result of the paper, we construct and justify an asymptotic approximation of Green's function in a domain with many small inclusions. Periodicity of the array of inclusions is not required. We start with an analysis of the Dirichlet problem for the Laplacian in such a domain to illustrate a method of meso scale asymptotic approximations for solutions of boundary value problems in multiply perforated domains. The asymptotic formula obtained involves a linear combination of solutions to certain model problems whose coefficients satisfy a linear algebraic system. The solvability of this…
We consider the homogenization limit of the compressible barotropic Navier-Stokes equations in a three-dimensional domain perforated by periodically distributed identical particles. We study the regime of particle sizes and distances such that the volume fraction of particles tends to zero but their resistance density tends to infinity. Assuming that the Mach number is increasing with a certain rate, the rescaled velocity and pressure of the microscopic system converges to the solution of an effective equation which is given by Darcy's law. The range of sizes of particles we consider are exact…
We study stochastic homogenization of a quasilinear parabolic PDE with nonlinear microscopic Robin conditions on a perforated domain. The focus of our work lies on the underlying geometry that does not allow standard homogenization techniques to be applied directly. Instead we prove homogenization on a regularized geometry and demonstrate afterwards that the form of the homogenized equation is independent from the regularization. Then we pass to the regularization limit to obtain the anticipated limit equation. Furthermore, we show that Boolean models of Poisson point processes are covered by …
We prove the homogenization to the Brinkman equations for the incompressible Stokes equations in a bounded domain which is perforated by a random collection of small spherical holes. The fluid satisfies a no-slip boundary condition at the holes. The balls generating the holes have centres distributed according to a Poisson point process and i.i.d. unbounded radii satisfying a suitable moment condition. We stress that our assumption on the distribution of the radii does not exclude that, with overwhelming probability, the holes contain clusters made by many overlapping balls. We show that the f…

In the present work, we established almost-sharp error estimates for linear elasticity systems in periodically perforated domains. The first result was $L^{\frac{2d}{d-1-τ}}$-error estimates $O\big(\varepsilon^{1-\fracτ{2}}\big)$ with $0<τ<1$ for a bounded smooth domain. It followed from weighted Hardy-Sobolev's inequalities and a suboptimal error estimate for the square function of the first-order approximating corrector (which was earliest investigated by C. Kenig, F. Lin, Z. Shen \cite{KLS} under additional regularity assumption on coefficients). The new approach relied on the weighted quen…

The paper deals with homogenization problem for nonlinear elliptic and parabolic equations in a periodically perforated domain, a nonlinear Fourier boundary conditions being imposed on the perforation border. Under the assumptions that the studied differential equation satisfies monotonicity and 2-growth conditions and that the coefficient of the boundary operator is centered at each level set of unknown function, we show that the problem under consideration admits homogenization and derive the effective model.
We investigate Lamé systems in periodically perforated domains, and establish quantitative homogenization results in the setting where the domain is clamped at the boundary of the holes. Our method is based on layer potentials and it provides a unified proof for various regimes of hole-cell ratios (the ratio between the size of the holes and the size of the periodic cells), and, more importantly, it yields natural correctors that facilitate error estimates. A key ingredient is the asymptotic analysis for the rescaled cell problems, and this is studied by exploring the convergence of the period…
Two-scale homogenization limits of parabolic cross-diffusion systems in a heterogeneous medium with no-flux boundary conditions are proved. The heterogeneity of the medium is reflected in the diffusion coefficients or by the perforated domain. The diffusion matrix is of degenerate type and may be neither symmetric nor positive semi-definite, but the diffusion system is assumed to satisfy an entropy structure. Uniform estimates are derived from the entropy production inequality. New estimates on the equicontinuity with respect to the time variable ensure the strong convergence of a sequence of …
We use a characterization of the fractional Laplacian as a Dirichlet to Neumann operator for an appropriate differential equation to study its obstacle problem in perforated domains.
We study the existence of uniformly bounded extension and trace operators for $W^{1,p}$-functions on randomly perforated domains, where the geometry is assumed to be stationary ergodic. Such extension and trace operators are important for compactness in stochastic homogenization. In contrast to former approaches and results, we use very weak assumptions on the geometry which we call local $(δ,M)$-regularity, isotropic cone mixing and bounded average connectivity. The first concept measures local Lipschitz regularity of the domain while the second measures the mesoscopic distribution of void sp…
