We report on high-statistics data from the $β^-$ decay of the $^{46}$K $J^π$ = 2$^-$ ground state taken with the GRIFFIN spectrometer located at the TRIUMF-ISAC facility. In total, 199 $γ$ rays and 42 excited states were placed in the level scheme, and from the observed $β$ feeding and angular correlations of pairs of cascading $γ$ rays, it was possible to assign spins and parities to excited states and determine mixing ratios for selected $γ$ rays. The level structure of $^{46}$Ca is compared to theoretical predictions from a microscopic valence-space Hamiltonian derived from two- (NN) and three-nucleon (3N) forces. These calculations are in reasonable agreement with the experimental data and indicate that the protons in this region are not as inert as would be expected for semi-magic nuclei.
We propose a new experiment for decay pion spectroscopy of light hypernuclei at electron- and proton-beam facilities, using the recoil distance technique for separation of produced hypernuclei and a magnetic spectrometer for precise measurement of the decay pion momentum. Low-pressure MWPCs are advocated for low-energy recoil detection as they provide position and time information and are highly insensitive to gamma-ray and electron background. The position and timing characteristics of such a recoil detector were studied using ~5 MeV α-particles. By using the present proposed approach the rat…
A systematic study of the $β$-decay of neutron-deficient nuclei has been carried out and has provided spectroscopic information of importance for both nuclear structure and nuclear astrophysics. Following an overview of the most relevant achievements, we focus on the latest results on the $β$ decay of $^{60}$Ge and $^{62}$Ge. We also summarise our results on the mass excesses in comparison with systematics and a recent measurement. Finally, we present updated half-life trends for $T_z=$ -1/2, -1 and -2 neutron-deficient nuclides.
The decay properties of the ground state and excited states of $^{257}$Rf have been investigated with the detector array GABRIELA at the FLNR, Dubna. The electromagnetic decay of a new excited state in $^{253}$No has been observed. The state lies 750 keV above the ground state and is favourably populated in the alpha decay of the low-lying spin isomer of $^{257}$Rf. It decays to the 9/2$^-$ ground state by an M1 transition and is assigned the 11/2$^-$[725] Nilsson configuration. The presence of this state suggests a possible reinterpretation of the decay of the high-K isomer in $^{253}$No.
An extended investigation of the low-spin structure of the $^{65}$Ni nucleus was performed at the Institut Laue-Langevin, Grenoble, via the neutron capture reaction $^{64}$Ni(n,$γ$)$^{65}$Ni, using the FIPPS HPGe array. The level scheme of $^{65}$Ni was significantly expanded, with 2 new levels and 87 newly found transitions. Angular correlation analyses were also performed, allowing us to assign spins and parities for a number of states, and to determine multipolarity mixing ratios for selected $γ$ transitions. The low-energy part of the experimental level scheme (up to about 1.4 MeV) was com…
Spectroscopy of doubly magic $^{132}_{50}$Sn$_{82}$ has been performed with the GRIFFIN spectrometer at TRIUMF-ISAC following the $β$ decay of $^{132}_{49}$In$_{83}$. The analysis has allowed for the placement of a total of 70 transitions and 29 excited states in $^{132}$Sn. Detailed spectroscopy has also been performed on $^{131}$Sb, resulting from the $β$ decay of $^{131}$Sn, produced from the $β$-delayed neutron decay of $^{132}$In. Measurement of $γ$-rays in both $^{131}$Sn and $^{131}$Sb has led to the determination of the $β$-delayed neutron emission probability, $P_{n}$, from $^{132}$In…
The $β$ decay of the neutron-rich $^{134}$In and $^{135}$In was investigated experimentally in order to provide new insights into the nuclear structure of the tin isotopes with magic proton number $Z=50$ above the $N=82$ shell. The $β$-delayed $γ$-ray spectroscopy measurement was performed at the ISOLDE facility at CERN, where indium isotopes were selectively laser-ionized and on-line mass separated. Three $β$-decay branches of $^{134}$In were established, two of which were observed for the first time. Population of neutron-unbound states decaying via $γ$ rays was identified in the two daughte…
In an experiment performed at the SPIRAL1 facility of GANIL, the beta decay of 32Ar has been studied by means of the "Silicon Cube" device associated with germanium clover detectors from the EXOGAM array. Beta-delayed protons and gamma rays have been observed and allowed the determination of all relevant decay branches. The Gamow-Teller strength distribution is compared to shell-model calculations and excellent agreement is found. The Fermi strength is inline with expectations. A quasi-complete decay scheme of 32Ar is established.
The $β$ decay of the isomeric and ground state of $^{50}$Sc to the semi-magic nucleus $^{50}_{22}$Ti$_{28}$ has been studied using a $^{50}$Ca beam delivered to the GRIFFIN $γ$-ray spectrometer at the TRIUMF-ISAC facility. $β$-decay branching ratios are reported to 16 excited states with a total of 38 $γ$-ray transitions linking them. These new data significantly expands the information available over previous studies. Relative intensities are measured to less than 0.001$\%$ that of the strongest transition with the majority of $γ$-ray transitions observed here in $β$ decay for the first time.…
$β$-decay spectroscopy provides valuable information on exotic nuclei and a stringent test for nuclear theories beyond the stability line. To search for new $β$-delayed protons and $γ$ rays of $^{25}$Si to investigate the properties of $^{25}$Al excited states. $^{25}$Si $β$ decays were measured by using the Gaseous Detector with Germanium Tagging system at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory. The protons and $γ$ rays emitted in the decay were detected simultaneously. A Monte Carlo method was used to model the Doppler broadening of $^{24}$Mg $γ$-ray lines caused by nuclear recoil…
The conversion electrons from the decay of the 35.5-keV excited state of 125Te following the electron capture decay of 125I have been investigated at high resolution using an electrostatic spectrometer. The penetration parameter lambda = -1.2(6) and mixing ratio |delta| = 0.015(2) were deduced by fitting to literature values and present data. The shake probability of the conversion electrons is estimated to be 0.5, more than two times larger than the predicted value of 0.2.
The most-remote from stability isotope $^{31}$K, which is located four atomic mass units beyond the proton drip line, has been observed. It is unbound in respect to three-proton (${3p}$) emission, and its decays have been detected in flight by measuring trajectories of all decay products using micro-strip detectors. The $3p$-emission processes have been studied by means of angular correlations $^{28}$S+3$p$ and the respective decay vertexes. The energies of the previously-unknown ground and excited states of $^{31}$K have been determined. This provides its $3p$ separation-energy value $S_{3p}$…
The $β$ decays of the ground state (gs) and isomeric state (m) of $^{96}$Y have been studied with the total absorption $γ$-ray spectroscopy technique at the Ion Guide Isotope Separator On-Line facility. The separation of the 8$^{+}$ isomeric state from the 0$^{-}$ ground state was achieved thanks to the purification capabilities of the JYFLTRAP double Penning trap system. The $β$-intensity distributions of both decays have been independently determined. In the analyses the de-excitation of the 1581.6 keV level in $^{96}$Zr, in which conversion electron emission competes with pair production, h…

Detailed characterization of the newly available plastic scintillator (EJ-299-33A) having the pulse shape discrimination (PSD) property has been carried out in case of a large-sized detector (5 in.$\times$5 in.). The pulse height response of the scintillator for nearly mono-energetic neutrons has been reported in case of neutron energies E$_n$ =3, 6 and 9 MeV. Important properties (figure-of-merit (FOM), time resolution, detection efficiency) of the detector has been compared with a commonly used liquid organic scintillator based detector of the same size coupled to the same PMT for uniformity…

225Ac is a valuable medical radionuclide for targeted alpha therapy, but 227Ac is an undesirable byproduct of an accelerator-based synthesis method under investigation. Sufficient detector sensitivity is critical for quantifying the trace impurity of 227Ac, with the 227Ac/225Ac activity ratio predicted to be approximately 0.15% by end-of-bombardment (EOB). Superconducting transition edge sensor (TES) microcalorimeters offer high resolution energy spectroscopy using the normal-to-superconducting phase transition to measure small change in temperature. By embedding 225Ac production samples in a …
