Moire patterns appear frequently when taking photos of digital screens, drastically degrading the image quality. Despite the advance of CNNs in image demoireing, existing networks are with heavy design, causing redundant computation burden for mobile devices. In this paper, we launch the first study on accelerating demoireing networks and propose a dynamic demoireing acceleration method (DDA) towards a real-time deployment on mobile devices. Our stimulus stems from a simple-yet-universal fact that moire patterns often unbalancedly distribute across an image. Consequently, excessive computation…
This paper reviews the Challenge on Image Demoireing that was part of the New Trends in Image Restoration and Enhancement (NTIRE) workshop, held in conjunction with CVPR 2020. Demoireing is a difficult task of removing moire patterns from an image to reveal an underlying clean image. The challenge was divided into two tracks. Track 1 targeted the single image demoireing problem, which seeks to remove moire patterns from a single image. Track 2 focused on the burst demoireing problem, where a set of degraded moire images of the same scene were provided as input, with the goal of producing a sin…

The prevalence of digital sensors, such as digital cameras and mobile phones, simplifies the acquisition of photos. Digital sensors, however, suffer from producing Moire when photographing objects having complex textures, which deteriorates the quality of photos. Moire spreads across various frequency bands of images and is a dynamic texture with varying colors and shapes, which pose two main challenges in demoireing---an important task in image restoration. In this paper, towards addressing the first challenge, we design a multi-scale network to process images at different spatial resolutions…

A moire pattern in the images is resulting from high frequency patterns captured by the image sensor (colour filter array) that appear after demosaicing. These Moire patterns would appear in natural images of scenes with high frequency content. The Moire pattern can also vary intensely due to a minimal change in the camera direction/positioning. Thus the Moire pattern depreciates the quality of photographs. An important issue in demoireing pattern is that the Moireing patterns have dynamic structure with varying colors and forms. These challenges makes the demoireing more difficult than many o…

This paper introduces the methods and the results of AIM 2022 challenge on Instagram Filter Removal. Social media filters transform the images by consecutive non-linear operations, and the feature maps of the original content may be interpolated into a different domain. This reduces the overall performance of the recent deep learning strategies. The main goal of this challenge is to produce realistic and visually plausible images where the impact of the filters applied is mitigated while preserving the content. The proposed solutions are ranked in terms of the PSNR value with respect to the or…

This paper reviews the video extreme super-resolution challenge associated with the AIM 2020 workshop at ECCV 2020. Common scaling factors for learned video super-resolution (VSR) do not go beyond factor 4. Missing information can be restored well in this region, especially in HR videos, where the high-frequency content mostly consists of texture details. The task in this challenge is to upscale videos with an extreme factor of 16, which results in more serious degradations that also affect the structural integrity of the videos. A single pixel in the low-resolution (LR) domain corresponds to …

Cameras capture sensor RAW images and transform them into pleasant RGB images, suitable for the human eyes, using their integrated Image Signal Processor (ISP). Numerous low-level vision tasks operate in the RAW domain (e.g. image denoising, white balance) due to its linear relationship with the scene irradiance, wide-range of information at 12bits, and sensor designs. Despite this, RAW image datasets are scarce and more expensive to collect than the already large and public RGB datasets. This paper introduces the AIM 2022 Challenge on Reversed Image Signal Processing and RAW Reconstruction. W…
