We obtain the last of the standard Kuznetsov formulas for $SL(3,\Bbb{Z})$. In the previous paper, we were able to exploit the relationship between the positive-sign Bessel function and the Whittaker function to apply Wallach's Whittaker expansion; now we demonstrate the expansion of functions into Bessel functions for all four signs, generalizing Wallach's theorem for $SL(3)$. As applications, we again consider the Kloosterman zeta functions and smooth sums of Kloosterman sums. The new Kloosterman zeta functions pose the same difficulties as we saw with the positive-sign case, but for the negative-sign case, we obtain some analytic continuation of the unweighted zeta function and give a sort of reflection formula that exactly demonstrates the obstruction when the moduli are far apart. The completion of the remaining sign cases means this work now both supersedes the author's thesis and completes the work started in the original paper of Bump, Friedberg and Goldfeld.
The original formulae of Kuznetsov for $SL(2,\mathbb{Z})$ allowed one to study either a spectral average via Kloosterman sums or to study an average of Kloosterman sums via a spectral interpretation. In previous papers, we have developed the spectral Kuznetsov formulae at the minimal weights for $SL(3,\mathbb{Z}))$, and in these formulae, the big-cell Kloosterman sums occur with weight functions attached to four different integral kernels, according to the choice of signs of the indices. These correspond to the $J$- and $K$-Bessel functions in the case of $GL(2)$. In this paper, we demonstrate…
We develop a fairly explicit Kuznetsov formula on GL(3) and discuss the analytic behaviour of the test functions on both sides. Applications to Weyl's law, exceptional eigenvalues, a large sieve and L-functions are given.
Relative trace formulas play a central role in studying automorphic forms. In this paper, we use a relative trace formula approach to derive a Kuznetsov type formula for the group $GSp_4$. We focus on giving a final formula that is as explicit as possible, and we plan on returning to applications elsewhere.
In these notes, we prove a semi-adelic version of the Kuznetsov formula over arbitrary number fields. The extent is the set of those automorphic vectors which are not necessarily spherical in the archimedean aspect and a class of weight functions which is important for applications.
The $SL(3)$ Kuznetsov formula exists in several versions, and has been employed with some success to study automorphic forms on $SL(3)$. In each version, the weight functions on the geometric side are given by multiple integrals with complicated oscillating factors; this is the primary obstruction to its use. By describing them as solutions to systems of differential equations, we give power series and Mellin-Barnes integral representations of minimal dimension for these weight functions. This completes the role of harmonic analysis on symmetric spaces on the geometric side of the Kuznetsov fo…
We give an adelic treatment of the Kuznetsov trace formula as a relative trace formula on GL(2) over Q. The result is a variant which incorporates a Hecke eigenvalue in addition to two Fourier coefficients on the spectral side. We include a proof of a Weil bound for the generalized twisted Kloosterman sums which arise on the geometric side. As an application, we show that the Hecke eigenvalues of Maass forms at a fixed prime, when weighted as in the Kuznetsov formula, become equidistributed relative to the Sato-Tate measure in the limit as the level goes to infinity.
We generalize a formula on the counting of prime geodesics, due to Kuznetsov-Bykovskii, used in the work of Soundararajan-Young on the prime geodesic theorem. The method works over any number field and for any congruence subgroup. We give explicit computation in the cases of principal and Hecke subgroups.
We develop an explicit Kuznetsov formula on GL(3) for congruence subgroups. Applications include a Lindelof on average type bound for the sixth moment of GL(3) L-functions in the level aspect, an automorphic large sieve inequality, density results for exceptional eigenvalues and density results for Maass forms violating the Ramanujan conjecture at finite places.
We present an explicit approach to the GL(3) Kuznetsov formula. As an application, for a restricted class of test functions, we obtain the low-lying zero densities for the following three families: cuspidal GL(3) Maass forms phi, the symmetric square family sym^2 phi on GL(6), and the adjoint family Ad phi on GL(8). Hence we can identify their symmetry types; they are: unitary, unitary, and symplectic, respectively.
This paper initiates the study by analytic methods of the generalized principal series Maass forms on $GL(3)$. These forms occur as an infinite sequence of one-parameter families in the two-parameter spectrum of $GL(3)$ Maass forms, analogous to the relationship between the holomorphic modular forms and the spherical Maass cusp forms on $GL(2)$. We develop a Kuznetsov trace formula attached to these forms at each weight and use it to prove an arithmetically-weighted Weyl law, demonstrating the existence of forms which are not self-dual. Previously, the only such forms that were known to exist …
We prove an equidistribution result for the Satake parameters of Maass cusp forms on $GL_3$ with respect to the $p$-adic Plancherel measure by using an application of the Kuznetsov trace formula. The techniques developed in this paper deal with the removal of arithmetic weight $L(1,F,Ad)^{-1}$ in the Kuznetsov trace formula on $GL_3$.

Using the Kuznetsov trace formula, we prove a spectral decomposition for the sums of generalized Dirichlet $L$-functions. Among applications are an explicit formula relating norms of prime geodesics to moments of symmetric square $L$-functions and an asymptotic expansion for the average of central values of generalized Dirichlet $L$-functions.
We prove recursive formulas involving sums of divisors and sums of triangular numbers and give a variety of identities relating arithmetic functions to divisor functions providing inductive identities for such arithmetic functions.
Using the Kuznetsov formula, we prove several density theorems for exceptional Hecke and Laplacian eigenvalues of Maass cusp forms of weight 0 or 1 for the congruence subgroups $Γ_0(q)$, $Γ_1(q)$, and $Γ(q)$. These improve and extend upon results of Sarnak and Huxley, who prove similar but slightly weaker results via the Selberg trace formula.
We give arithmetic formulas for the coefficients of Hauptmoduln of higher levels as analogues of Kaneko's result. We also obtain their asymptotic formulas by employing Murty-Sampath's method.
In this paper, we proved an arithmetic Siegel-Weil formula and the modularity of some arithmetic theta function on the modular curve $X_0(N)$ when $N$ is square free. In the process, we also construct some generalized Delta function for $Γ_0(N)$ and proved some explicit Kronecker limit formula for Eisenstein series on $X_0(N)$.
In this paper, we obtain explicit formulas for the second moments for Hurwitz class numbers $H(4n-t^2)$ with $t$ running through a fixed congruence class modulo $3$.
In this paper, we obtain a subconvexity result for the Rankin-Selberg L-function in both levels. The new feature in this result is applying an amplification method of Duke-Friedlander-Iwaniec to a double Petersson-Kuznetsov trace formula. As the trace formula ranges over all the $GL_2$ spectrum, this subconvexity result is unconditional of which Hecke eigenforms are chosen in the Rankin-Selberg L-function.
The main goal of this expository article is to survey recent progress on the arithmetic Siegel-Weil formula and its applications. We begin with the classical sum of two squares problem and put it in the context of the Siegel-Weil formula. We then motivate the geometric and arithmetic Siegel-Weil formula using the classical example of the product of modular curves. After explaining the recent result on the arithmetic Siegel-Weil formula for Shimura varieties of arbitrary dimension, we discuss some aspects of the proof and its application to the arithmetic inner product formula and the Beilinson…
In this paper, we prove an explicit arithmetic intersection formula between arithmetic Hirzebruch-Zagier divisors and arithmetic CM cycles in a Hilbert modular surface over $\mathbb Z$. As applications, we obtain the first `non-abelian' Chowla-Selberg formula, which is a special case of Colmez's conjecture; an explicit arithmetic intersection formula between arithmetic Humbert surfaces and CM cycles in the arithmetic Siegel modular variety of genus two; Lauter's conjecture about the denominators of CM values of Igusa invariants; and a result about bad reductions of CM genus two curves.
In this paper, we study twisted arithmetic divisors on the modular curve X_0(N) with N square-free. For each pair (Δ, r) where Δ>0 and Δ\equiv r^2 \mod 4N, we constructed a twisted arithmetic theta function ϕ_{Δ, r}(τ) which is a generating function of arithmetic twisted Heegner divisors. We prove the modularity of ϕ_{Δ, r}(τ), along the way, we also identify the arithmetic pairing \langle ϕ_{Δ, r}(τ),\widehatω_N \rangle with special value of some Eisenstein series, where \widehatω_N is a normalized metric Hodge line bundle.
In 1997 the author found a criterion for the Riemann hypothesis for the Riemann zeta function, involving the nonnegativity of certain coefficients associated with the Riemann zeta function. In 1999 Bombieri and Lagarias obtained an arithmetic formula for these coefficients using the ``explicit formula'' of prime number theory. In this paper, the author obtains an arithmetic formula for corresponding coefficients associated with the Euler product of Hecke polynomials, which is essentially a product of L-functions attached to weight 2 cusp forms (both newforms and oldforms) over Hecke congruence…
In this paper, we obtain an explicit arithmetic intersection formula on a Hilbert modular surface between the diagonal embedding of the modular curve and a CM cycle associated to a non-biquadratic CM quartic field. This confirms a special case of the author's conjecture with J. Bruinier in \cite{BY}, and is a generalization of the beautiful factorization formula of Gross and Zagier on singular moduli. As an application, we proved the first non-trivial non-abelian Chowla-Selberg formula, a special case of Colmez conjecture.
We prove an exact formula for the second moment of Rankin-Selberg $L$-functions $L(1/2,f \times g)$ twisted by $λ_f(p)$, where $g$ is a fixed holomorphic cusp form and $f$ is summed over automorphic forms of a given level $q$. The formula is a reciprocity relation that exchanges the twist parameter $p$ and the level $q$. The method involves the Bruggeman/Kuznetsov trace formula on both ends; finally the reciprocity relation is established by an identity of sums of Kloosterman sums.
We develop the relation between hyperbolic geometry and arithmetic equidistribution problems that arises from the action of arithmetic groups on real hyperbolic spaces, especially in dimension up to 5. We prove generalisations of Mertens' formula for quadratic imaginary number fields and definite quaternion algebras over the rational numbers, counting results of quadratic irrationals with respect to two different natural complexities, and counting results of representations of (algebraic) integers by binary quadratic, Hermitian and Hamiltonian forms with error bounds. For each such statement, …
The arithmetic function of two variables is defined. Some properties of the function are given along with the formula that is an analog of the so-called Mobius' inversion formula. A heuristic statement is suggested.
A formula of Kuznetsov allows one to interpret a smooth sum of Kloosterman sums as a sum over the spectrum of $GL(2)$ automorphic forms. In this paper, we construct a similar formula for the first hyper-Kloosterman sums using $GL(3)$ automorphic forms, resolving a long-standing problem of Bump, Friedberg and Goldfeld. Along the way, we develop what are apparently new bounds for the order derivatives of the classical $J$-Bessel function, and we conclude with a discussion of the original method of Bump, Friedberg and Goldfeld.
Kuroda's formula relates the class number of a multi-quadratic number field $K$ to the class numbers of its quadratic subfields $k_i$. A key component in this formula is the unit group index $Q(K) = [\mathcal{O}_{K}^{\times}: \prod_i\mathcal{O}_{k_i}^{\times}]$. We study how $Q(K)$ behaves on average in certain natural families of totally real biquadratic fields $K$ parametrized by prime numbers.
We obtain asymptotic results for well known summatory arithmetic functions, such as $ψ(x),$ and establish connections to new summatory functions. A new Volterra integral equation is offered, which is solved by summatory arithmetic functions. We conclude with some further integral formulas and provide number theoretic formulas as applications.
In this paper, we prove the weak Siegel-Weil formula for the space M_2(Q) . We study the Hecke correspondence and representation numbers associated to Eichler orders, and give the explicit formula for degree of Hecke correspondence and average representation numbers over genus. This formula could recover the main results in [DuYang]. We could identify these numbers with the Fourier coefficients of Eisenstein series via Siegel-Weil formula(weak Siegel-Weil formula for M_2(Q). In the last part of this article, we reprove four square sum Theorem via Siegel-Weil formula and Kudla's matching.
We introduce a new trace formula of Kuznetsov type involving the central standard L-values and the Whittaker periods of cuspidal automorphic representations of PGL_n(Q) which are spherical at the archimedean place. As an application, we show a simultaneous non-vanishing of standard L-values at n-1 points on the critical strip for infinitely many Hecke-Maass cuspidal newforms.
We use a function field analogue of a method of Selberg to derive an asymptotic formula for the number of (square-free) monic polynomials in $\mathbb{F}_q[X]$ of degree $n$ with precisely $k$ irreducible factors, in the limit as $n$ tends to infinity. We then adapt this method to count such polynomials in arithmetic progressions and short intervals, and by making use of Weil's `Riemann hypothesis' for curves over $\mathbb{F}_q$, obtain better ranges for these formulae than are currently known for their analogues in the number field setting. Finally, we briefly discuss the regime in which $q$ t…
An interesting episode in the history of the prime number theorem concerns a formula proposed by Legendre for counting the primes below a given bound. We point out that arithmetic bias likely played an important role in arriving at that formula and in its subsequent widespread, decades-long recognition. We also show that the Legendre constant 1.08366 satisfies a certain simple and natural criterion, and conjecture that this criterion is how Legendre arrived at that erroneous constant in his formula.
We shall give an explicit formula for $ψ(x, q, a)$ with an error term of the form $C/\log^αx$ under the condition that $q<\log^{α_1} x$ is nonexceptional, for various values of $α$ and $α_1$. We shall also give an explicit formula for $ψ(x, q, a)$ with error terms $C/\log^A x$ working whether $q$ is exceptional or nonexceptional, but under the condition that $\frac{0.4923A}πq^{1/2}\log^2 q<\log x/\log\log x$. Moreover, we shall give an explicit form of Bombieri-Vinogradov theorem over non-exceptional moduli.
We stratify the $\mathrm{SL}_3$ big cell Kloosterman sets using the reduced word decomposition of the Weyl group element, inspired by the Bott-Samelson factorization. Thus the $\mathrm{SL}_3$ long word Kloosterman sum is decomposed into finer parts, and we write it as a finite sum of a product of two classical Kloosterman sums. The fine Kloosterman sums end up being the correct pieces to consider in the Bruggeman-Kuznetsov trace formula on the congruence subgroup $Γ_0(N)\subseteq \mathrm{SL}_3(\mathbb{Z})$. Another application is a new explicit formula, expressing the triple divisor sum functi…
In this paper, we improve the error term in a previous paper on an asymptotic formula for the number of squarefull numbers in an arithmetic progression.
