We study local and non-local transport across a two-leg long-range Kitaev ladder connected to two normal metal leads. We focus on the role of the constituent Majorana fermions and the subgap Andreev states. The double degeneracy of Majorana fermions of the individual legs of the ladder gets lifted by a coupling between the two leading to the formation of Andreev bound states. The coupling can be induced by a superconducting phase difference between the two legs of the ladder accompanied by a finite inter-leg hopping. Andreev bound states formed strongly enhance local Andreev reflection. When the ladder and normal metal are weakly coupled, the Andreev bound states, which are the controlling factor, result in weak nonlocal scattering. In sharp contrast, when the ladder - normal metal interface is transparent to electron flow, we find that the subgap Andreev states enhance nonlocal conductance strongly. The features in the local and nonlocal conductances resemble the spectrum of the isolated ladder. Long-range pairing helps lift the degeneracy of the Majorana modes, makes them less localized, and thus inhibits local transport, while aiding non-local transport. In particular, long-range pairing alone (without a superconducting phase difference) can enhance crossed Andreev reflection.
We demonstrate direct transport between two opposing sets of Yu-Shiba-Rusinov (YSR) subgap states realized in a double quantum dot. This sub-gap transport relies on intrinsic quasiparticle relaxation, but the tunability of the device allows us to explore also an additional relaxation mechanism based on charge transferring Andreev reflections. The transition between these two relaxation regimes is identified in the experiment as a marked gate-induced stepwise change in conductance. We present a transport calculation, including YSR bound states and multiple Andreev reflections alongside with qua…
We study nonlocal transport in a two-leg Kitaev ladder connected to two normal metals. The coupling between the two legs of the ladder when the legs are maintained at a (large) superconducting phase difference, results in the creation of subgap Andreev states. These states in turn are responsible for the enhancement of crossed Andreev reflection. We find that tuning the different parameters of the system suitably leads to enhancement of crossed Andreev reflection signalled by transconductance acquiring the most negative value possible. Furthermore, subgap states cause oscillations of the trans…
Photon-assisted tunneling frequently provides detailed information on the underlying charge-transfer process. In particular, the Tien-Gordon approach and its extensions predict that the sideband spacing in bias voltage is a direct fingerprint of the number of electrons transferred in a single tunneling event. Here, we analyze photon-assisted tunneling into subgap states in superconductors in the limit of small temperatures and bias voltages where tunneling is dominated by resonant Andreev processes and does not conform to the predictions of simple Tien-Gordon theory. Our analysis is based on a…
A semiconducting nanowire fully wrapped by a superconducting shell has been proposed as a platform for obtaining Majorana modes at small magnetic fields. In this study, we demonstrate that the appearance of subgap states in such structures is actually governed by the junction region in tunneling spectroscopy measurements, and not the full-shell nanowire itself. Short tunneling regions never show subgap states, whereas longer junctions always do. This can be understood in terms of quantum dots forming in the junction and hosting Andreev levels in the Yu-Shiba-Rusinov regime. The intricate magne…
Being encouraged by the interplay between topology, superconductivity and magnetism, we experimentally investigate charge transport through the interface between the Nb superconductor and the time-reversal symmetry breaking Weyl semimetal Co$_3$Sn$_2$S$_2$. In addition to the proximity induced superconducting gap, we observe several subgap features, among which the most interesting is the prominent subgap zero-bias anomaly, absolutely stable against external magnetic fields up to the critical field of Nb. As the promising scenario for the zero-bias anomaly to appear in transport characteristic…
We describe a simple hybrid superconductor$|$ferromagnetic-insulator structure manifesting spin-resolved Andreev bound states in which dynamic magnetization is employed to probe spin related physics. We show that, at low bias and below $T_c$, the transfer of spin angular momentum pumped by an externally driven ferromagnetic insulator is greatly affected by the formation of spin-resolved Andreev bound states. Our results indicate that these bound states capture the essential physics of condensate-facilitated spin flow. For finite thicknesses of the superconducting layer, comparable to the coher…
We study the spin-resolved subgap transport in a triple quantum-dot system coupled to one superconducting and two ferromagnetic leads. We examine the Andreev processes in the parallel and antiparallel alignments of ferromagnets magnetic moments in both the linear and nonlinear response regimes. The emphasis is put on the analysis of the current cross-correlations between the currents flowing through the left and right arms of the device and relevant electron waiting time distributions. We show that both quantities can give an important insight into the subgap transport processes and their anal…
We investigate zero-bias conductance peaks that arise from coalescing subgap Andreev states, consistent with emerging Majorana zero modes, in hybrid semiconductor-superconductor wires defined in a two-dimensional InAs/Al heterostructure using top-down lithography and gating. The measurements indicate a hard superconducting gap, ballistic tunneling contact, and in-plane critical fields up to $3$~T. Top-down lithography allows complex geometries, branched structures, and straightforward scaling to multicomponent devices compared to structures made from assembled nanowires.
We discuss the nonlinear Andreev current of an interacting quantum dot coupled to spin-polarized and superconducting reservoirs when voltage and temperature biases are applied across the nanostructure. Due to the particle-hole symmetry introduced by the superconducting (S) lead, the subgap spin current vanishes identically. Nevertheless, the Andreev charge current depends on the degree of polarization in the ferromagnetic (F) contact since the shift of electrostatic internal potential of the conductor depends on spin orientation of the charge carrier. This spin-dependent potential shift charac…
Motivated by recent scanning tunneling microscopy experiments on single magnetic impurities on superconducting surfaces, we present here a comprehensive theoretical study of the interplay between Yu-Shiba-Rusinov bound states and (multiple) Andreev reflections. Our theory is based on a combination of an Anderson model with broken spin degeneracy and nonequilibrium Green's function techniques that allows us to describe the electronic transport through a magnetic impurity coupled to superconducting leads for arbitrary junction transparency. Using this combination we are able to elucidate the dif…
We experimentally investigate charge transport through the interface between a niobium superconductor and a three-dimensional WTe$_2$ Weyl semimetal. In addition to classical Andreev reflection, we observe sharp non-periodic subgap resistance resonances. From an analysis of their positions, magnetic field and temperature dependencies, we can interpret them as an analog of Tomasch oscillations for transport along the topological surface state across the region of proximity-induced superconductivity at the Nb-WTe$_2$ interface. Observation of distinct geometrical resonances implies a specific tr…
Novel fermions with a pseudospin-1 structure can be realized as emergent quasiparticles in condensed matter systems. Here, we investigate its unusual properties during the Andreev reflection at a normal-metal/superconductor (NS) interface. We show that distinct from the previously studied pseudospin-1/2 and two dimensional electron gas models, the pseudospin-1 fermions exhibit a strongly enhanced Andreev reflection probability, and remarkably, can be further tuned to approach perfect Andreev reflection with unit efficiency for all incident angles, exhibiting a previously unknown {super-Andreev…
We study the interband transport in a superconducting device composed of graphene with EuO-induced exchange interaction. We show that pure crossed Andreev reflection can be generated exclusively without the parasitic local Andreev reflection and elastic cotunnelling over a wide range of bias and Fermi levels in an EuO-graphene/superconductor/EuO-graphene device. The pure non-local conductance exhibits rapid on/off switching and oscillatory behavior when the Fermi levels in the normal and the superconducting leads are varied. The oscillation reflects the quasiparticle propagation in the superco…
Each end of a Kitaev chain in topological phase hosts a Majorana fermion. Zero bias conductance peak is an evidence of Majorana fermion when the two Majorana fermions are decoupled. These two Majorana fermions are separated in space and this nonlocal aspect can be probed when the two are coupled. Crossed Andreev reflection is the evidence of the nonlocality of Majorana fermions. Nonlocality of Majorana fermions has been proposed to be probed by noise measurements since simple conductance measurements cannot probe it due to the almost cancellation of currents from electron tunneling and crossed…
We present a theoretical investigation for the full counting statistics of the Andreev tunneling through a quantum dot (QD) embedded between superconducting (SC) and normal leads in the presence of a strong on-site electron-phonon interaction using nonequilibrium Green function method. For this purpose, we generalize the dressed tunneling approximation (DTA) recently developed in dealing with inelastic tunneling in a normal QD system to the Andreev transport issue, which takes account of vibrational effect in evaluation of electronic tunneling self energy in comparison with other simple approa…
The quantum transport properties of graphene and monolayer $MoS_2$ superconductor heterostructures has been of considerable importance in the recent few years. Layered nature of molybdenum disulfide permits the superconducting correlation induction. Moreover, peculiar dynamical features of monolayer $MoS_2$, such as valence band spin-splitting in the nondegenerate $K$ and $K'$ valleys originated from strong spin-orbit coupling, and considerable direct band gap can make it potentially a useful material for electronics applications. Using the Dirac-like Hamiltonian of $MoS_2$ with taking into ac…
Recent tunneling spectroscopy experiments in semiconducting nanowires with proximity-induced superconductivity have reported robust zero-bias conductance peaks. Such a feature can be compatible with the existence of topological Majorana bound states (MBSs) and with a trivial Andreev bound state (ABS) near zero energy. Here, we argue that additional information, that can distinguish between the two cases, can be extracted from Coulomb-blockade experiments of Majorana islands. The key is the ratio of peak heights of consecutive conductance peaks give information about the electron and hole compo…
We simulated the radiative response of the cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED) coupled to the double quantum dot Cooper pair splitter and analyzed its spectral dependence to get insight into dynamics of the Cooper pair transfers. The model is confined to the energy subspace where two entangled electrons are transferred to two normal electrodes through the inter-dot singlet state on two proximitized quantum dots. Our research is focused on the Andreev scatterings in the subgap regime, for which the local charge susceptibility $Π(ω_p)$ is derived, by means of Keldysh Green functions, in a whole…
We describe a method to probe the quantum phase transition between the short-range topological phase and the long-range topological phase in the superconducting Kitaev chain with long-range pairing, both exhibiting subgap modes localized at the edges. The method relies on the effects of the finite mass of the subgap edge modes in the long-range regime (which survives in the thermodynamic limit) on the single-particle scattering coefficients through the chain connected to two normal leads. Specifically, we show that, when the leads are biased at a voltage V with respect to the superconducting c…
Featuring spin-valley degree of freedom by a magnetic exchange field-induction to gain transport of charge carriers through a junction based on superconducting subgap tunneling can provide a new scenario for future electronics. Transmission of low-energy Dirac-like electron (hole) quasiparticles through a ferromagnet/superconductor (F/S) interface can be of noticeable importance due to strong spin-orbit coupling in the valence band of monolayer $MoS_2$ (ML-MDS). The magnetic exchange field (MEF) of a ferromagnetic section on top of ML-MDS may affect the electron (hole) excitations for spin-up …
Kitaev chain (KC) is a prototypical model for the study of Majorana fermions (MFs). In the topological phase, a KC hosts two MFs at its ends. Being separated in space, these two MFs are nonlocal. The nonlocal transport in a KC biased between two normal metal leads is mediated by electron tunneling (ET) and crossed Andreev reflection (CAR). ET contributes positively while CAR contributes negatively to the nonlocal conductance. Enhanced CAR and hence a negative nonlocal conductance is a hallmark of nonlocality of MFs. But simple conductance measurements in the above setup cannot probe the nonloc…
Two-terminal conductance spectroscopy of superconducting devices is a common tool for probing Andreev and Majorana bound states. Here, we study theoretically a three-terminal setup, with two normal leads coupled to a grounded superconducting terminal. Using a single-electron scattering matrix, we derive the subgap conductance matrix for the normal leads and discuss its symmetries. In particular, we show that the local and the nonlocal elements of the conductance matrix have pairwise identical antisymmetric components. Moreover, we find that the nonlocal elements are directly related to the loc…
The Majorana zero mode in the semiconductor-superconductor nanowire is one of the promising candidates for topological quantum computing. Recently, in islands of nanowires, subgap-state energies have been experimentally observed to oscillate as a function of the magnetic field, showing a signature of overlapped Majorana bound states. However, the oscillation amplitude either dies away after an overshoot or decays, sharply opposite to the theoretically predicted enhanced oscillations for Majorana bound states. We reveal that a steplike distribution of spin-orbit coupling in realistic devices ca…
