We calculate the subgap density of states of a disordered single-channel normal metal connected to a superconductor at one end (NS junction) or at both ends (SNS junction). The probability distribution of the energy of a bound state (Andreev level) is broadened by disorder. In the SNS case the two-fold degeneracy of the Andreev levels is removed by disorder leading to a splitting in addition to the broadening. The distribution of the splitting is given precisely by Wigner's surmise from random-matrix theory. For strong disorder the mean density of states is largely unaffected by the proximity to the superconductor, because of localization, except in a narrow energy region near the Fermi level, where the density of states is suppressed with a log-normal tail.
A normal conductor placed in good contact with a superconductor can inherit its remarkable electronic properties. This proximity effect microscopically originates from the formation in the conductor of entangled electron-hole states, called Andreev states. Spectroscopic studies of Andreev states have been performed in just a handful of systems. The unique geometry, electronic structure and high mobility of graphene make it a novel platform for studying Andreev physics in two dimensions. Here we use a full van der Waals heterostructure to perform tunnelling spectroscopy measurements of the prox…
We study the crossed Andreev effects in two-dimensional conductor/superconductor hybrid systems under a perpendicular magnetic field. Both a graphene/superconductor hybrid system and an electron gas/superconductor one are considered. It is shown that an exclusive crossed Andreev reflection, with other Andreev reflections being completely suppressed, is obtained in a high magnetic field because of the chiral edge states in the quantum Hall regime. Importantly, the exclusive crossed Andreev reflection not only holds for a wide range of system parameters, e.g., the size of system, the width of ce…
An Andreev molecule is a system of closely spaced superconducting weak links accommodating overlapping Andreev Bound States. Recent theoretical proposals have considered one-dimensional Andreev molecules with a single conduction channel. Here we apply the scattering formalism and extend the analysis to multiple conduction channels, a situation encountered in epitaxial superconductor/semiconductor weak links. We obtain the multi-channel bound state energy spectrum and quantify the contribution of the microscopic non-local processes leading to the formation of Andreev molecules.

A finite-size normal conductor, proximity-coupled to a superconductor has been predicted to exhibit a so-called minigap, in which quasiparticle excitations are prohibited. Here, we report on the direct observation of such a minigap in ballistic graphene, coupled to superconducting MoRe leads. The minigap is probed by finite bias spectroscopy through a weakly coupled junction in the graphene region and its value is given by the dimensions of the device. Besides the minigap, we observe a distinct peak in the differential resistance, which we attribute to weakly coupled Andreev bound states (ABS)…
We predict an existence of an new dissipation channel leading to attenuation of ultrasound in disordered conductors and superconductors with perfect electroneutrality. It is due to slow diffusion of thermal energy. We show that in doped silicon ultrasound attenuation may be enhanced by a factor about 100. Similar effect is also studied for s-wave and d-wave superconductors. The latter case is applied to BSCCO family where strong enhancement of ultrasound attenuation is predicted. For usual s-wave superconductors new dissipation channel might be important for very low-electron-density materials…
A graphene sheet partially covered with a bulk superconductor serves as a normal conductor--superconductor (NS) junction, in which electron transport is mainly governed by Andreev reflection (AR). As excess carriers induced over the covered region penetrate into the uncovered region over a screening length, the charge neutrality point (CNP) in the uncovered region shifts only near the NS interface. We theoretically study the electron transport in a bilayer graphene junction taking account of such spatial variation of the CNP in the electron-doped case. When the Fermi level is close to the CNP …
We theoretically investigate the quantum transports in a junction between a superconductor and a silicene nanoribbon, under the effect of a magnetic exchange field. We find that for a narrow nanoribbon of silicene, remarkable crossed Andreev reflection (with a fraction $>50\%$) can be induced in the energy window of the elastic cotunneling, by destroying some symmetries of the system. Since the energy responses of electrons to the exchange field are opposite for opposite spins, these transport channels can be well spin polarized. Moreover, due to the helicity conservation of the topological ed…
We evaluate the joint distributions of electron waiting times in coherent conductors described by scattering theory. Successive electron waiting times in a single-channel conductor are found to be correlated due to the fermionic statistics encoded in the many-body state. Our formalism allows us also to investigate the waiting times between charge transfer events in different outgoing channels. As an application we consider a quantum point contact in a chiral setup with one or both input channels biased by either a static or a time-dependent periodic voltage described by Floquet theory. The the…
In this work we uncover an interesting quantum plateau behavior for the Andreev reflection between a one-dimensional quantum wire and superconductor. The quantum plateau is achieved by properly tuning the interplay of the spin-orbit coupling within the quantum wire and its tunnel coupling to the superconductor. This plateau behavior is justified to be unique by excluding possible existences in the cases associated with multi-channel quantum wire, the Blonder-Tinkham-Klapwijk continuous model with a barrier, and lattice system with on-site impurity at the interface.
One of the typical features of Majorana zero mode (MZM) at the end of topological superconductor is a zero-bias peak in the tunneling spectroscopy of the normal lead-superconductor junction. In this paper we study on a model with one phonon mode coupling to the superconductor lead of the normal lead-superconductor junction, which can be viewed as an electron-lead/phonon-coupled-MZM/hole-lead structure. The phonon-coupled MZM acts as a series of channels in which electron can turn into hole by absorbing and emitting phonons. These channels present in the local density of states (LDOS) as a seri…
Motivated by recent experiments with proximitized nanowires, we study a mesoscopic s-wave superconductor connected via point contacts to normal-state leads. We demonstrate that at energies below the charging energy the system is described by the two-channel Kondo model, which can be brought to the quantum critical regime by varying the gate potential and conductances of the contacts.

Although interesting per se, decoherence and relaxation of single-electron excitations induced by strong effective screened Coulomb interactions in Quantum Hall edge channels are an important challenge for the applications of electron quantum optics in quantum information and quantum sensing. In this paper, we study intrinsic single-electron decoherence within an ideal single-electron channel with long-range effective Coulomb interactions to determine the influence of the material and sample properties. We find that weak-coupling materials characterized by a high velocity of hot-electron excit…
Bijunctions are three-terminal Josephson junctions where three superconductors are connected by a single weak link made of a metallic region or of quantum dots. Biasing two of the superconductors with commensurate voltages yields Andreev resonances that produce d.c. Josephson currents made of correlated Cooper pairs. For instance with applied voltages (0, V,-V), quartets formed by two entangled Cooper pairs are emitted by one reservoir towards the two others. Theory involving non-equilibrium Green's functions reveal the microsopic mechanism at play, e.g. multiple coherent Andreev reflections t…
We performed microwave spectroscopy of an InAs nanowire between superconducting contacts implementing a finite-length, multi-channel Josephson weak link. Certain features in the spectra, such as the splitting by spin-orbit interactions of the transition lines among Andreev states, have been already understood in terms of non-interacting models. However, we identify here additional transitions, which evidence the presence of Coulomb interactions. By combining experimental measurements and model calculations, we reach a qualitative understanding of these very rich Andreev spectra.
Motivated by recent experiments on low-carrier-density superconductors, including twisted multilayer graphene, we study signatures of the BCS to BEC evolution in Andreev reflection spectroscopy. We establish that in a standard quantum point contact geometry, Andreev reflection in a BEC superconductor is unable to mediate a zero-bias conductance beyond $e^2/h$ per lead channel. This bound is shown to result from a duality that links the sub-gap conductance of BCS and BEC superconductors. We then demonstrate that sharp signatures of BEC superconductivity, including perfect Andreev reflection, ca…
We demonstrate that phase-dependent heat currents through superconductor-topological insulator Josephson junctions provide a useful tool to probe the existence of topological Andreev bound states, even for multi-channel surface states. We predict that in the tunneling regime topological Andreev bound states lead to a minimum of the thermal conductance for a phase difference $ϕ=π$, in clear contrast to a maximum of the thermal conductance at $ϕ=π$ that occurs for trivial Andreev bound states in superconductor-normal metal tunnel junctions. This opens up the possibility that phase-dependent heat…
