In this paper we study the asymptotic behaviour of the quasilinear $curl$-$curl$ equation of 3D magnetostatics with respect to a singular perturbation of the differential operator and prove the existence of the topological derivative using a Lagrangian approach. We follow the strategy proposed in our recent previous work (arXiv:1907.13420) where a systematic and concise way for the derivation of topological derivatives for quasi-linear elliptic problems in $H^1$ is introduced. In order to prove the asymptotics for the state equation we make use of an appropriate Helmholtz decomposition. The evaluation of the topological derivative at any spatial point requires the solution of a nonlinear transmission problem. We discuss an efficient way for the numerical evaluation of the topological derivative in the whole design domain using precomputation in an offline stage. This allows us to use the topological derivative for the design optimization of an electrical machine.
The time derivative (in the sense of distributions) of the solutions to the Evolutionary p-Laplace Equation is proved to be a function in a local Lebesgue space.
We prove the global regularity of weak solutions to the conormal derivative boundary value problem for quasilinear elliptic equations in divergence form on Lipschitz domains under the controlled growth conditions on the low order terms. The leading coefficients are in the class of BMO functions with small mean oscillations.
For nonlinear dispersive systems, the nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation can usually be derived as a formal approximation equation describing slow spatial and temporal modulations of the envelope of a spatially and temporally oscillating underlying carrier wave. Here, we justify the NLS approximation for a whole class of quasilinear dispersive systems, which also includes toy models for the waterwave problem. This is the first time that this is done for systems, where a quasilinear quadratic term is allowed to effectively lose more than one derivative. With effective loss we here mean the lo…
This paper considers a general framework for the study of the existence of quasi-variational and variational solutions to a class of nonlinear evolution systems in convex sets of Banach spaces describing constraints on a linear combination of partial derivatives of the solutions. The quasi-linear operators are of monotone type, but are not required to be coercive for the existence of weak solutions, which is obtained by a double penalisation/regularisation for the approximation of the solutions. In the case of time-dependent convex sets that are independent of the solution, we show also the un…
In this note we present a new KAM result which proves the existence of Cantor families of small amplitude, analytic, quasi-periodic solutions of derivative wave equations, with zero Lyapunov exponents and whose linearized equation is reducible to constant coefficients. In turn, this result is derived by an abstract KAM theorem for infinite dimensional reversible dynamical systems.
In this paper we develop a method to solve evolution equations on Gelfand triples with time-fractional derivative based on monotonicity techniques. Applications include deterministic and stochastic quasi-linear partial differential equations with time-fractional derivatives, including time-fractional (stochastic) porous media equations (including the case where the Laplace operator is also fractional) and $p$-Laplace equations as special cases.
We give an example of quasiderivatives constructed by random time change, Girsanov's Theorem and Levy's Theorem. As an application, we investigate the smoothness and estimate the derivatives up to second order for the probabilistic solution to the Dirichlet problem for the linear degenerate elliptic partial differential equation of second order, under the assumption of non-degeneracy with respect to the normal to the boundary and an interior condition to control the moments of quasiderivatives, which is weaker than non-degeneracy.
We prove a constructive stable ODE-type blowup result for open sets of solutions to a family of quasilinear wave equations in three spatial dimensions featuring a Riccati-type derivative-quadratic semilinear term. The singularity is more severe than a shock in that the solution itself blows up like the log of the distance to the blowup-time. We assume that the quasilinear terms satisfy certain structural assumptions, which in particular ensure that the "elliptic part" of the wave operator vanishes precisely at the singular points. The initial data are compactly supported and can be small or la…
The periodic DNLS gauge is an anticipative map with singular generator which revealed crucial in the study of the periodic derivative NLS. We prove quasi-invariance of the Gaussian measure on $L^2(\T)$ with covariance $[1+(-\D)^{s}]^{-1}$ under these transformations for any $s>\frac12$. This extends previous achievements by Nahmod, Ray-Bellet, Sheffield and Staffilani (2011) and Genovese, Lucà and Valeri (2018), who proved the result for integer values of the regularity parameter $s$.
The directional differentiability of the solution map of obstacle type quasi-variational inequalities (QVIs) with respect to perturbations on the forcing term is studied. The classical result of Mignot is then extended to the quasi-variational case under assumptions that allow multiple solutions of the QVI. The proof involves selection procedures for the solution set and represents the directional derivative as the limit of a monotonic sequence of directional derivatives associated to specific variational inequalities. Additionally, estimates on the coincidence set and several simplifications …
In this paper we prove the existence of multiple solutions for a quasilinear elliptic boundary value problem, when the p-derivative at zero and the p-derivative at infinity of the nonlinearity are greater than the first eigenvalue of the p-Laplace operator. Our proof uses bifurcation from infinity and bifurcation from zero to prove the existence of unbounded branches of positive solutions (resp. of negative solutions). We show the existence of multiple solutions and we provide qualitative properties of these solutions.
In this paper strong dissipativity of generalized time-fractional derivatives on Gelfand triples of properly in time weighted $L^p$-path spaces is proved. In particular, the classical Caputo derivative is included as a special case. As a consequence one obtains the existence and uniqueness of solutions to evolution equations on Gelfand triples with generalized time-fractional derivatives. These equations are of type \begin{equation*} \frac{d}{dt} (k * u)(t) + A(t, u(t)) = f(t), \quad 0<t<T, \end{equation*} with (in general nonlinear) operators $A(t,\cdot)$ satisfying general weak monotonicity …
We prove gradient estimates for solutions of the oblique derivative problem for a large class of elliptic and parabolic quasilinear PDEs. In particular, we expand on previous work of the author using a maximum principle argument. In addition, we prove estimates for the parabolic problem of evolution via mean curvature with nonzero Neumann data, which seem to be new.

Classical results of second order parabolic quasi-linear equations always require that the nonlinear terms are controlled by a power of the unknown functions and their first derivatives. We improve the previous results. More precisely, in the present article the upper bound of nonlinear term can be extended to a power series.
We provide two-sided pointwise estimates and uniform asymptotics of the solutions to the subcritical quasi-geostrophic equation with initial data in $L^{2/(α-1)}(\mathbb{R}^2)$. Furthermore, we give upper bound of similar type for any derivative of the solutions. Initial data in $L^{p}(\mathbb{R}^2)$, $p>2/(α-1)$, are also discussed.
Asymptotic solutions of a quasilinear parabolic equation with a small parameter at the higher derivative are constructed near large-gradient and Lagrange singularities of A-type, which represent interest for studying processes of shock waves formation in physical media with a small nonzero viscosity.
We present a quasi-static elasticity model that accounts for damage evolution based on the ideas of Kachanov 1958 and and Rabotnov 1968. We analyze the resulting strongly nonlinear system of differential equations in view of well-posedness. The specific feature is that the displacements are connected to the damage evolution equation via a Nemytskii- or superposition- operator. The novelty in this work is that we present an inverse problem in a parameter identification setting, in which we are able to identify the shape of this Nemytskii-operator. From the material modelling point of view, the …
Mountain pass in a suitable Orlicz space is employed to prove the existence of soliton solutions for a quasilinear Schrödinger equation involving critical exponent in ${\BR}^N$. These equations contain strongly singular nonlinearities which include derivatives of the second order. Such equations have been studied as models of several physical phenomena. The nonlinearity here corresponds to the superfluid film equation in plasma physics.
