Vector analyzing powers, $A_x$ and $A_y$, of the proton-deuteron break-up reaction have been measured by using a polarized-proton beam at 135 MeV impinging on a liquid-deuterium target. For the experiment, the Big Instrument for Nuclear-polarization Analysis (BINA) was used at KVI, Groningen, the Netherlands. The data are compared to the predictions of Faddeev calculations using state-of-the-art two- and three-nucleon potentials. Our data are reasonably well described by calculations for the kinematical configurations at which the three-nucleon force (3NF) effect is predicted to be small. However, striking discrepancies are observed at specific configurations, in particular in the cases of symmetric configurations, where the relative azimuthal angle between the two protons is small which corresponds to the $d(p,{\rm{^{2}He}})n$ channel. The vector analyzing powers of these configurations are compared to the proton deuteron elastic scattering to study the spin-isospin sensitivity of the 3NF models. The results are compared to the earlier results of the proton-deuteron break-up reaction at 190 MeV proton-beam energy \cite{Mardanpour2010}. A disagreement is observed for both proton-beam energies between data and calculations which points to a deficiency in the treatment of spin-isospin part of the 3NF.
The neutron-proton effective $k$-mass splitting in asymmetric nucleonic matter of isospin asymmetry $δ$ and normal density is found to be $m^{*}_{n-p}\equiv(m^{*}_{n}-m^{*}_{p})/m=(0.41 \pm0.15)δ$ from analyzing globally 1088 sets of reaction and angular differential cross sections of proton elastic scattering on 130 targets with beam energies from 0.783 MeV to 200 MeV, and 1161 sets of data of neutron elastic scattering on 104 targets with beam energies from 0.05 MeV to 200 MeV within an isospin dependent non-relativistic optical potential model. It sets a useful reference for testing model p…
We apply the cluster-folding (CF) model for $\vec{p}+^{6}$He scattering at 200 MeV, where the potential between $\vec{p}$ and $^{4}$He is fitted to data on $\vec{p}+^{4}$He scattering at 200 MeV. For $\vec{p}+^{6}$He scattering at 200 MeV, the CF model reproduces measured differential cross section with no free parameter, We then predict the analyzing power $A_y(q)$ with the CF model, where $q$ is the transfer momentum. Johnson, Al-Khalili and Tostevin construct a theory for one-neutron halo scattering, taking (1) the adiabatic approximation and (2) neglecting the interaction between a valence…
Predictions of cross sections and analyzing powers using g-folding optical potentials for the scattering of 71A MeV 6,8He ions from (polarized) hydrogen are compared with data. A g-folding model in which exchange amplitudes are evaluated explicitly was used with wave functions of 6,8He specified from a no-core shell model that used a complete (0+2+4)hw basis. The analyzing powers reveal some sensitivities to the details of the wave functions, especially in the case of halo nuclei.
The vector Ay and tensor analyzing powers Ayy and Axx for dp- elastic scattering were measured at Td = 880 MeV over the c.m. angular range from 60 to 140 degrees at the JINR Nuclotron. The data are compared with predictions of different theoretical models based on the use of nucleon-nucleon forces only. The observed discrepancies of the measured analyzing powers from the calculations require the consideration of additional mechanisms.
The vector analyzing power has been measured for the elastic scattering of neutron-rich 6He from polarized protons at 71 MeV/nucleon making use of a newly constructed solid polarized proton target operated in a low magnetic field and at high temperature. Two approaches based on local one-body potentials were applied to investigate the spin-orbit interaction between a proton and a 6He nucleus. An optical model analysis revealed that the spin-orbit potential for 6He is characterized by a shallow and long-ranged shape compared with the global systematics of stable nuclei. A semimicroscopic analys…
A complete set of analyzing powers for the dd->3Hp reaction at the kinetic beam energy of 200 MeV has been measured in the full angular range in the c.m. frame. The observed signs of the tensor analyzing powers Ayy, Axx, and Axz at forward and backward directions have clearly demonstrated the sensitivity to the ratio of the D- and S-wave components of the triton and deuteron, respectively. The new high-precision data are compared with the prediction of the relativistic multiple-scattering model by using standard wave functions of the three-nucleon bound state and of the deuteron.
A study of medium-mass heavy-ion reactions leading to two fragments in the exit channel from barrier to 18A MeV is proposed. A special focus is made on fission and quasi-fission for events with two fragments ($Z\geq10$) in the exit channel selected. Reactions induced by $^{129}Xe$ projectiles on $^{nat}Sn$ and on $^{197}Au$ at energies ranging from $8A$ MeV to $18A$ MeV were analyzed. Using the fragment ($Z\geq10$) multiplicity equal to 2, fission and quasi-fission events were studied for the lowest beam energies using the fission fragment charge distributions, the total kinetic energy distrib…
We present measurements of differential cross sections and analyzing powers for the elastic 2H(~d; d)d scattering process. The data were obtained using a 130 MeV polarized deuteron beam. Cross sections and spin observables of the elastic scattering process were measured at the AGOR facility at KVI using two independent setups, namely BINA and BBS. The data harvest at setups are in excellent agreement with each other and allowed us to carry out a thorough systematic analysis to provide the most accurate data in elastic deuteron-deuteron scattering at intermediate energies. The results can be us…
Proton-${}^3$H elastic scattering and charge-exchange reaction ${}^3$H$(p,n){}^3$He in the energy regime above four-nucleon breakup threshold are described in the momentum-space transition operator framework. Fully converged results are obtained using realistic two-nucleon potentials and two-proton Coulomb force as dynamic input. Differential cross section, proton analyzing power, outgoing neutron polarization, and proton-to-neutron polarization transfer coefficients are calculated between 6 and 30 MeV proton beam energy. Good agreement with the experimental data is found for the differential …
Understanding of the exact nature of three-nucleon forces is the most challenging topic in the field of nuclear physics. Three-nucleon break-up reaction is a good tool to look into the underlying dynamics of the nuclear force, thanks to its rich kinematical phase space which has different levels of sensitivity to three-nucleon force effects. The recent studies on few-nucleon systems have revealed that the current nuclear force models cannot describe nucleon-deuteron scattering data accurately. In the present work, the analyzing powers of the proton-deuteron break-up reaction obtained using a 1…
A measurement of the analyzing powers for the $^2$H$(\vec{p},pp)n$ break-up reaction was carried out at KVI exploiting a polarized-proton beam at an energy of 135 MeV. The scattering angles and energies of the final-state protons were measured using the Big Instrument for Nuclear-polarization Analysis (BINA) with a nearly $4π$ geometrical acceptance. In this work, we analyzed a large number of kinematical geometries including forward-forward configurations in which both the final-state particles scatter to small polar angles and backward-forward configurations in which one of the final-state p…
A complete high precision set of deuteron analyzing powers for elastic deuteron-proton ($dp$) scattering at 250 MeV/nucleon (MeV/N) has been measured. The new data are presented together with data from previous measurements at 70, 100, 135 and 200 MeV/N. They are compared with the results of three-nucleon (3N) Faddeev calculations based on modern nucleon-nucleon (NN) potentials alone or combined with two models of three nucleon forces (3NFs): the Tucson-Melbourne 99 (TM99) and Urbana IX. At 250 MeV/N large discrepancies between pure NN models and data, which are not resolved by including 3NFs,…
A selection of measured cross sections and vector analyzing powers, Ax and Ay, are presented for the pd break-up reaction. The data are taken with a polarized proton beam energy of 135 MeV using the Big Instrument for Nuclear-polarization Analysis (BINA) at KVI, the Netherlands. With this setup, Ax is extracted for the first time for a large range of energies as well as polar and azimuthal angles of the two outgoing protons. For most of the configurations, the results at small and large relative azimuthal angles differ in behavior when comparing experimental data with the theoretical calculati…
The Continuum Discretized Coupled Channels (CDCC) method is a well established theory for direct nuclear reactions which includes breakup to all orders. Alternatively, the 3-body problem can be solved exactly within the Faddeev formalism which explicitly includes breakup and transfer channels to all orders. With the aim to understand how CDCC compares with the exact 3-body Faddeev formulation, we study deuteron induced reactions on: i) $^{10}$Be at $E_{\rm d}= 21.4, 40.9 \; {\rm and} \; 71$ MeV; ii) $^{12}$C at $E_{\rm d} = 12 \; {\rm and} \; 56$ MeV; and iii) $^{48}$Ca at $E_{\rm d} = 56$ MeV…
A measurement of vector analyzing powers in elastic deuteron-carbon scattering has been performed at the Cooler Synchrotron COSY of Forschungszentrum Jülich, Germany. Seven kinetic beam energies between 170 and 380 MeV have been used. A vector-polarized beam from a polarized deuteron source was injected, accelerated to the final desired energy and stored in COSY. A thin needle-shaped diamond strip was used as a carbon target, onto which the beam was slowly steered. Elastically scattered deuterons were identified in the forward direction using various layers of scintillators and straw tubes. Wh…
We calculate proton elastic and inelastic scatterings with a microscopic coupled channel (MCC) calculation. The localized diagonal and coupling potentials including the spin-orbit part are obtained by folding a complex $G$-matrix effective nucleon-nucleon interaction with a transition density. This is the first time that the present folding prescription for the spin-orbit part is applied to the proton inelastic scattering, while for the monopole transition only. We apply the MCC calculation to the proton elastic and inelastic (0$^+_2$) scatterings by $^{12}$C target at $E_p$ = 65 and 200 MeV. …
The de-excitation of alpha-conjugate nuclei produced in reactions of 35 MeV/nucleon 40Ca with 40Ca has been investigated. Particular emphasis is placed on examining the dynamics of collisions leading to projectile-like fragment exit channels. A general exploration of the reaction systematics reveals the binary dissipative character of the collisions and a hierarchy effect similar to that seen for heavier systems. Investigation of the subset of events characterized by a total alpha-conjugate mass (alpha particles plus alpha-conjugate fragments) equal to 40 and atomic number equal to 20 reveals …
While it is well established that the ground state reorientation coupling can have a significant influence on the elastic scattering of deformed nuclei, the effect of such couplings on transfer channels has been much less well investigated. In this letter we demonstrate that the 208Pb(7Li,6He)209Bi proton stripping reaction at an incident energy of 52 MeV can be well described by the inclusion of the 7Li ground state reorientation coupling within the coupled channels Born approximation formalism. Full finite-range distorted wave Born approximation calculations were previously found to be unabl…
Two-nucleon transfer reactions are essential tools to investigate specific features of the nuclearstructure such as the correlation among valence particles in the transfer process. Besides, transfer reactions may be an important channel to take into account in charge exchange processes since they can represent a competing contribution to the final cross section. The two-proton pickup transfer reaction 40Ca(18O,20Ne)38Ar has been measured at 270 MeV and the angular distributions for transitions to different excited states extracted. This work shows the analysis of the data performed by finite r…
The elastic and inelastic scattering of $^7$Be from $^{12}$C have been measured at an incident energy of 35 MeV. The inelastic scattering leading to the 4.439 MeV excited state of $^{12}$C has been measured for the first time. The experimental data cover an angular range of $θ_{cm}$ = 15$^{\circ}$-120$^{\circ}$. Optical model analyses were carried out with Woods-Saxon and double-folding potential using the density dependent M3Y (DDM3Y) effective interaction. The microscopic analysis of the elastic data indicates breakup channel coupling effect. A coupled-channel analysis of the inelastic scatt…
Charge exchange (CE) reactions offer a major opportunity to excite nuclear isovector modes, providing clues about the nuclear interaction in the medium. Moreover, double charge exchange (DCE) reactions are proving to be a tempting tool to access nuclear transition matrix elements (NME) related to double beta-decay processes. Through a multi-channel experimental analysis and a consistent theoretical approach of the $^{116}$Cd($^{20}$Ne,$^{20}$F)$^{116}$In single charge exchange (SCE) reaction at 306 MeV, we aim at disentangling from the experimental cross section the contribution of the competi…
Microscopic calculations of four-body collisions become very challenging in the energy regime above the threshold for four free particles. The neutron-${}^3$He scattering is an example of such process with elastic, rearrangement, and breakup channels. We aim to calculate observables for elastic and inelastic neutron-${}^3$He reactions up to 30 MeV neutron energy using realistic nuclear force models. We solve the Alt, Grassberger, and Sandhas (AGS) equations for the four-nucleon transition operators in the momentum-space framework. The complex-energy method with special integration weights is a…
Subbarrier alpha transfer reaction 13C(6Li,d)17O(6.356 MeV, 1/2+) at 3.6 MeV is analyzed with a alpha + d + 13C three-body model, and the asymptotic normalization coefficient (ANC) for alpha + 13C --> 17O(6.356 MeV, 1/2+), which essentially determines the reaction rate of 13C(alpha,n)16O, is extracted. Breakup effects of 6Li in the initial channel and those of 17O in the final channel are investigated with the continuum-discretized coupled-channels method (CDCC). The former is found to have a large back-coupling to the elastic channel, while the latter turns out significantly small. The transf…
Evidence has recently been presented for the existence of a dibaryon of mass 2380 MeV/c^2 and width 70 MeV/c^2, which decays strongly into the d pi0 pi0 channel [M. Bashkanov et al., Phys.Rev.Lett. 102 (2009) 052301; P. Adlarson et al., arXiv:1104.0123]. The decay rate of such a hypothesised dibaryon into the {pn}_{I=0} pi0 pi0 channel is estimated in a weakly model-dependent way by using final state interaction theory. It is shown that, if the resonance exists, it should then show up as strongly in this channel as in d pi0 pi0. The sum of the two decay modes would saturate most of the inelast…
We study the elastic scattering of polarized protons from He isotopes. The central and spin-orbit parts of the optical potential are derived using the Glauber theory that can naturally take account of the breakup effect of the He isotopes. Both the differential cross section and the vector analyzing power for $p+^{4,6,8}$He scattering at 71 MeV are in reasonable agreement with experiment. Scattering observables at 300 MeV are predicted. The Pauli blocking effect is examined at 71 MeV.
We report on the measurement of the analyzing power for the (vec)pp->ppeta reaction with beam momenta of 2026 MeV/c and 2188 MeV/c performed with the WASA-at-COSY detector at the Cooler Synchrotron COSY. The eta meson from the (vec)pp-> ppeta reaction was identified by the techniques of missing mass and invariant mass. The angular distribution of the determined analyzing power strongly disagree with theoretical predictions. A comparison of the obtained Ay angular distribution with a series of associated Legendre polynomials revealed negligible contribution of the Sd partial wave at Q = 15 MeV.…
We have investigated a prototype of kaonic nuclei, "$K^-pp$", with a coupled-channel Complex Scaling Method (ccCSM). Combining the ccCSM with Feshbach projection method, we can handle a coupled-channel problem effectively as a single-channel problem. By using an energy-dependent chiral SU(3)-based $\bar{K}N$ potential, the $K^-pp$ ($J^π=0^-$ and $T=1/2$) is obtained to be shallowly bound with the binding energy of 20-30 MeV. The mesonic decay width depends on the interaction parameters and ansatz; the decay width is ranging from 20 to 65 MeV. In case of $J^π=1^-$ state, no three-body $\bar{K}N…
Vector analyzing powers for proton elastic scattering from 8He at 71 MeV/nucleon have been measured using a solid polarized proton target operated in a low magnetic field of 0.1 T. The spin-orbit potential obtained from a phenomenological optical model analysis is found to be significantly shallower and more diffuse than the global systematics of stable nuclei, which is an indication that the spin-orbit potential is modified for scattering involving neutron-rich nuclei. A close similarity between the matter radius and the root-mean-square radius of the spin-orbit potential is also identified.
In this paper an attempt was to measure, the excitation functions of $^{169}$Tm($^{12}$C, 4n)$^{177}$Re, $^{169}$Tm($^{12}$C, 5n)$^{176}$Re, $^{169}$Tm($^{12}$C, $α$n)$^{176}$Ta, $^{169}$Tm($^{12}$C, $α$2n)$^{175}$Ta , $^{169}$Tm($^{12}$C, $α$3n)$^{174}$Ta , $^{169}$Tm($^{12}$C, $α$4n)$^{173}$Ta, and $^{169}$Tm($^{12}$C, 2$α$2n)$^{171}$Lu reaction channels populated in the interaction of $^{12}$C projectile with $^{169}$Tm target were considered in order to investigate the mechanisms of complete and incomplete fusion reactions. The theoretically predicted excitation functions using PACE4 code …
Asymptotic normalization coefficients (ANC) determine the overall normalization of cross sections of peripheral radiative capture reactions. In the present paper, we treat the ANC $C$ for the virtual decay $^{16}$O$(0^+; 6.05$ MeV)$\to α+^{12}$C(g.s.), the known values of which are characterized by a large spread $(0.29-1.65)\times 10^3$ fm$^{-1/2}$. The ANC $C$ is found by analytic continuation in the energy of the $α^{12}$C $s$-wave scattering amplitude, known from the phase-shift analysis of experimental data, to the pole corresponding to the $^{16}$O bound state and lying in the unphysical…
The internal excitation of nuclei after multi-nucleon transfer is estimated by using the time-dependent mean-field theory. Transfer probabilities for each channel as well as the energy loss after re-separation are calculated. By combining these two informations, we show that the excitation energy distribution of the transfer fragments can be obtained separately for the different transfer channels. The method is applied to the reaction involving a $^{238}$U beam on a $^{12}$C target, which has recently been measured at GANIL. It is shown that the excitation energy calculated with the microscopi…
Background: Theoretical calculations of the four-particle scattering above the four-cluster breakup threshold are technically very difficult due to nontrivial singularities or boundary conditions. Further complications arise when the long-range Coulomb force is present. Purpose: We aim at calculating proton-${}^3$He elastic scattering observables above three- and four-cluster breakup threshold. Methods: We employ Alt, Grassberger, and Sandhas (AGS) equations for the four-nucleon transition operators and solve them in the momentum-space framework using the complex-energy method whose accuracy a…
It is understood from the recent experimental studies that prompt/resonant breakup, and transfer followed by breakup in the weakly bound $^{6,7}$Li-induced reactions play a significant role in the complete-incomplete fusion (CF-ICF), suppression/enhancement in the fusion cross section around the Coulomb barrier. Investigation of ICF over CF was done by measuring cross sections of the populated residues in the $^{7}$Li-induced reaction on $^{\text{nat}}$Nb target within 3--6.5 MeV/nucleon energy region. Measured excitation functions of different channels were compared with different equilibrium…
Detailed measurements of five-fold differential cross sections and a rich set of vector and tensor analyzing powers of the 2H(d; dp)n break-up process using polarized deuteron-beam energy of 65 MeV/nucleon with a liquid-deuterium target are presented. The experiment was conducted at the AGOR facility at KVI using the BINA 4Pi-detection system. We discuss the analysis procedure including a thorough study of the systematic uncertainties. The results can be used to examine upcoming state-of-the-art calculations in the four-nucleon scattering domain, and will, thereby, provide further insights int…
In a track nuclear photoemulsion exposed to a beamof $^7$Li nuclei accelerated to a momentum of 3 GeV/$c$ per nucleon at the synchrophasotron of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR, Dubna), 13 events in which $^7$Li nuclei interacting with protons break up into $^3$H and $^4$He fragments were detected among 3730 inelastic-interaction events. For this fragmentation channel, the cross section was found to be $8\pm2$ mb. The average value of the fragment total transverse momentum was $214\pm5$ MeV/$c$. This value exceedsmarkedly the average value of the transverse-momentumtransfer in t…
15Be is expected to have low-lying 3/2+ and 5/2+ states. A first search did not observe the 3/2+ [A. Spyrou et al., Phys. Rev. C 84, 044309 (2011)], however, a resonance in 15Be was populated in a second attempt and determined to be unbound with respect to 14Be by 1.8(1) MeV with a tentative spin-parity assignment of 5/2+ [J. Snyder et al., Phys. Rev. C 88, 031303(R) (2013)]. Search for the predicted 15Be 3/2+ state in the three-neutron decay channel. A two-proton removal reaction from a 55 MeV/u 17C beam was used to populate neutron-unbound states in 15Be. The two-, three-, and four-body deca…
The 1p transfer channel in the $^{27}$Al($^{12}$C, $^{11}$B)$^{28}$Si reaction has been studied at E$_{lab}$ = 73, 81 and 85 MeV. The finite range distorted wave Born approximation calculations have been performed using phenomenological optical model potential to analyze the angular distributions for 3 transitions populating the 0.0, 1.78 and 4.62 MeV states of $^{28}$Si and 2 transitions populating the 2.12 and 4.44 MeV states of $^{11}$B via the $^{27}$Al($^{12}$C, $^{11}$B)$^{28}$Si reaction. The spectroscopic strengths as well as spectroscopic factors have been extracted for all the five s…
The Lambda polarization, the analyzing power, and the Lambda spin transfer coefficient of the reaction pp -> p K+ Lambda were measured at beam momenta of 2.70 GeV/c and 2.95 GeV/c, corresponding to excess energies of 122 MeV and 204 MeV. While the analyzing power and the spin transfer coefficient do not change significantly with the excess energy, the Lambda polarization varies strongly and changes its sign. As this is the first measurement of polarization observables below an excess energy of 200 MeV, the change of the sign of the Lambda polarization was not observed before. The high statisti…
