The robust (spin and isospin zero) $α$-particle remains one of the best projectiles to probe the nuclear isoscalar excitations. In the present work, a microscopic folding model analysis of the \ac inelastic scattering to the 2$^+$ (4.44 MeV), 0$^+$ (7.65 MeV), 3$^-$ (9.64 MeV), 0$^+$ (10.3 MeV) and 1$^-$ (10.84 MeV) states in $^{12}$C has been performed using the 3-$α$ resonating group method wave functions. The isoscalar transition strengths of these states were carefully studied based on the coupled-channel analysis using the microscopic folded form factors. A correlation between the weak binding and/or short lifetime of the excited state and absorption in the exit channel of inelastic scattering has been established.
The energetic beam of (spin and isospin zero) $α$-particles remains a very efficient probe for the nuclear isoscalar giant resonances. In the present work, a microscopic folding model study of the isoscalar giant resonances in $^{208}$Pb induced by inelastic \aPb scattering at $E_{\rm lab}=240$ and 386 MeV has been performed using the (complex) CDM3Y6 interaction and nuclear transition densities given by both the collective model and Random Phase Approximation (RPA) approach. The fractions of energy weighted sum rule around the main peaks of the isoscalar monopole, dipole and quadrupole giant …
The complex optical potential and inelastic form factor given by the folding model for the $α+^{12}$C scattering are used to calculate the ($α,α'$) cross sections for the known isoscalar states of $^{12}$C in an elaborate coupled channel approach. The strengths of the form factors for these states are then fine tuned against the ($α,α'$) data to deduce the corresponding $Eλ$ transition strengths. A significant $E2$ transition strength has been obtained for the $2^+_2$ state from the present analysis of the ($α,α'$) data measured at $E_α=240$ and 386 MeV. The $Eλ$ transition strengths of the $0…
The role of the isoscalar hyperon Lambda in probing the density dependence of the nuclear symmetry energy is studied in multi-Lambda hypernuclei, hyperon-rich matter and neutron stars in relativistic models. Relationships between the properties of three types of objects and the neutron thickness in 208Pb are established with respect to the isoscalar-isovector coupling that modifies the density dependence of the symmetry energy. The exotic isotopes far from the neutron drip line can be stabilized by filling in considerable Lambda hyperons. The difference of the binding energy of multi-Lambda hy…
The properties of the alpha+28Si and 16O+16O molecular states which are embedded in the excited states of 32S and can have an impact on the stellar reactions are investigated using the antisymmetrized molecular dynamics. From the analysis of the cluster spectroscopic factors, the candidates of alpha+28Si and 16O+16O molecular states are identified close to and above the cluster threshold energies. The calculated properties of the alpha+28Si molecular states are consistent with those reported by the alpha+28Siresonant scattering experiments. On the other hand, the 16O+16O molecular state, which…
The correspondence between the isoscalar monopole (IS0) transition strengths and $α$ inelastic cross sections, the $B({\rm IS0})$-$(α,α')$ correspondence, is investigated for $^{24}$Mg($α,α'$) at 130 and 386 MeV. We adopt a microscopic coupled-channel reaction framework to link structural inputs, diagonal and transition densities, for $^{24}$Mg obtained with antisymmetrized molecular dynamics to the ($α,α'$) cross sections. We aim at clarifying how the $B({\rm IS0})$-$(α,α')$ correspondence is affected by the nuclear distortion, the in-medium modification to the nucleon-nucleon effective inter…
We present an ab-initio study of the isoscalar monopole excitations of 4He using different realistic nuclear interactions, including modern effective field theory potentials. In particular we concentrate on the transition form factor $F_{\cal M}$ to the narrow $0^+$ resonance close to threshold. F_M exhibits a strong potential model dependence, and can serve as a kind of prism to distinguish among different nuclear force models. Comparing to the measurements obtained from inelastic electron scattering off 4He, one finds that the state-of-the-art theoretical transition form factors are at varia…
Inelastic $α$-scattering excitation cross sections are calculated for electric dipole excitations in $^{124}$Sn based on the transition densities obtained from the relativistic quasiparticle time-blocking approximation (RQTBA) in the framework of a semiclassical model. The calculation provides the missing link to directly compare the results from the microscopic RQTBA calculations to recent experimental data measured via the $(α,α'γ)$ reaction, which show a structural splitting of the low-lying E1 strength often denoted as pygmy dipole resonance (PDR). The experimentally observed splitting is …
The particle-hole dispersive optical model, developed recently, is applied to describe properties of high-energy isoscalar monopole excitations in medium-heavy mass spherical nuclei. We consider, in particular, the double transition density averaged over the energy of the isoscalar monopole excitations in $^{208}$Pb in a wide energy interval, which includes the isoscalar giant monopole resonance and its overtone. The energy-averaged strength functions of these resonances are also analyzed. Possibilities for using the mentioned transition density to description of inelastic $α$-scattering are d…
Based on the Isospin-dependent Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck (IBUU) transport model, the in-medium nucleon-nucleon inelastic scattering ( which is dominated by pion production at low and intermediate energies) is explored. It is found that the in-medium modification of nucleon-nucleon inelastic scatterings appears to reduce the neutron to proton ratio n/p at higher kinetic energies. Although the in-medium modification of nucleon-nucleon inelastic scatterings, as expected, affects the value of $π^-/π^+$ ratio, considering a series of undetermined properties of delta resonance and $π$ in medium, t…
We searched for the $α$ condensed state in $^{13}$C by measuring the $α$ inelastic scattering at $E_α = 388$ MeV at forward angles including 0 degrees. We performed the distorted-wave Born-approximation calculation with the single-folding potential and the multipole decomposition analysis to determine the isoscalar transition strengths in $^{13}$C. We found a bump structure around $E_x = 12.5$ MeV due to the isoscalar monopole ($IS0$) transition. A peak-fit analysis suggested that this bump consisted of several $1/2^-$ states. We propose that this bump is due to the mirror state of the 13.5 Me…
A compact approach based on the folding model is suggested for the determination of the isoscalar and isovector transition strengths of the low-lying ($ΔS=ΔT=0$) excitations induced by inelastic proton scattering measured with exotic beams. Our analysis of the recently measured inelastic $^{18,20}$O+p scattering data at $E_{\rm lab}=30$ and 43 MeV/nucleon has given for the first time an accurate estimate of the isoscalar $β_0$ and isovector $β_1$ deformation parameters (which cannot be determined from the (p,p') data alone by standard methods) for 2$^+_1$ and $3^-_1$ excited states in $^{18,20…
Isoscalar (IS) monopole and dipole excitations in $^{16}$O were investigated by the method of shifted basis antisymmetrized molecular dynamics combined with the generator coordinate method. Significant strengths of the IS monopole and dipole transitions were obtained in the low-energy region below the giant resonances. In addition to the compressive mode, which mainly contributes to the high-energy strengths for the IS dipole giant resonance, we obtained a variety of low-energy dipole modes such as the vortical dipole mode in the $1^-_1$ state of the vibrating tetrahedral $4α$ and the $^{12}$C…
The excitation of the isovector giant dipole resonance (GDR) by alpha scattering is investigated as a method of probing the neutron excess in exotic nuclei. DWBA calculations are presented for 28O and 70Ca and the interplay of Coulomb and nuclear excitation is discussed. Since the magnitude of the Coulomb excitation amplitude is strongly influenced by the Q-value, the neutron excess plays an important role, as it tends to lower the energy of the GDR. The excitation of the compressional isoscalar dipole state in 70Ca by alpha scattering is also investigated. It is shown that the population of t…
Inelastic ${}^{6}$Li scattering at 100 MeV/u on ${}^{12}$C and ${}^{93}$Nb have been measured with the high-resolution magnetic spectrometer Grand Raiden. The magnetic-rigidity settings of the spectrometer covered excitation energies from 10 to 40 MeV and scattering angles in the range $0^\circ < θ_{\text{lab.}}< 2^\circ$. The isoscalar giant monopole resonance was selectively excited in the present data. Measurements free of instrumental background and the very favorable resonance-to-continuum ratio of ${}^{6}$Li scattering allowed for precise determination of the $E0$ strengths in ${}^{12}$C…
We propose a means to detect the nucleon strange quark-antiquark asymmetry, which is predicted as a non-perturbative effect, but still unchecked directly by available experiments. The difference for the $D(c\bar{q})$ and $\bar{D}(\bar{c}q)$ meson production cross sections in neutrino and antineutrino induced charged current deep inelastic scattering is illustrated to be sensitive to the nucleon strange asymmetry. Prospect is given and the effect due to the light quark fragmentation is also discussed for the extraction of the strange asymmetry in future experiments.
The cross sections are calculated for the both elastic and inelastic scattering of 6He from 12C and 4He. A phenomenological optical potential is used to describe the elastic scattering. 4He is taken as spherical and inelastic couplings to the first excited states of 6He and 12C are described with collective rotational model and coupled-channels method. Deformation lengths for 6He and 12C are determined from semi-classical nuclear level density model by using Laplace-like formula for the nuclear level density parameter. The comparison of the predicted and the measured cross sections are present…
Analyses of the inelastic $α$+$^{12}$C scattering at medium energies have indicated that the strength of the Hoyle state (the isoscalar 0$^+_2$ excitation at 7.65 MeV in $^{12}$C) seems to exhaust only 7 to 9% of the monopole energy weighted sum rule (EWSR), compared to about 15% of the EWSR extracted from inelastic electron scattering data. The full monopole transition strength predicted by realistic microscopic $α$-cluster models of the Hoyle state can be shown to exhaust up to 22% of the EWSR. To explore the missing monopole strength in the inelastic $α$+$^{12}$C scattering, we have perform…
A simple $ππ$, $\bar{K}K$, and $ρρ$($ωω$) fully coupled channel model is proposed to predict the isoscalar S-wave phase shifts and inelasticities for $ππ$ scattering in the 1.0 to 2.0 GeV region. The S-matrix is required to exhibit poles corresponding to the established isoscalar J$^π$ = 0$^+$ resonances f$_0$(975), f$_0$(1400), and f$_0$(1710). A dominant feature of the experimental $ππ$ inelasticity is the clear opening of the $\bar{K}K$ channel near 1 GeV, and the opening of another channel in the 1.4 - 1.5 GeV region. The success of our model in predicting this observed dramatic energy dep…
We investigate the use of elastic and inelastic scatterings with secondary beams of radioactive nuclei as a mean to obtain information on ground state properties and transition matrix elements to continuum states. An eikonal model is developed for this purpose by using the folding potential. In particular we discuss possible signatures of halo wavefunctions in elastic and inelastic scattering experiments.
We use a nonpertubative approach which combines coupled channel Lippmann Schwinger equations with meson-meson potentials provided by the lowest order chiral Lagrangian. By means of one parameter, a cut off in the momentum of the loop integrals, which results of the order of 1 GeV, we obtain singularities in the S-wave amplitudes corresponding to the $σ$, f_0 and a_0 resonances. The $ππ\to ππ, ππ\to K \bar{K}$ phase shifts and inelasticities in the T = 0 scalar channel are well reproduced as well as the $π^0 η$ and $K \bar{K}$ mass distributions in the T = 1 channel. Furthermore, the total and …
[Background:] The band structure of the negative-parity states of $^{24}$Mg has not yet been clarified. The $K^π=0^-$, $K^π=1^-$, and $K^π=3^-$ bands have been suggested, but the assignments have been inconsistent between experiments and theories. [Purpose:] Negative-parity states of $^{24}$Mg are investigated by microscopic structure and reaction calculations via proton and alpha inelastic scattering to clarify the band assignment for the observed negative-parity spectra. [Method:] The structure of $^{24}$Mg was calculated using the antisymmetrized molecular dynamics~(AMD). Proton and alpha i…
We review applicability of QCD factorization theorem to multiple scattering in deeply inelastic lepton-nucleus scattering. We show why A^{1/3}-type nuclear enhancement can be calculated consistently in perturbative QCD. We derive the transverse momentum broadening of the leading pions in deeply inelastic lepton-nucleus collisions. We argue that the measurement of such transverse momentum broadening can provide direct information on the multiple-parton correlation functions inside a nucleus. We also estimate the numerical values of the broadening at different values of x_B and Q^2.
A coupled-channel analysis of the $^{18,20,22}$O$(p,p')$ data has been performed to determine the neutron transition strengths of 2$^+_1$ states in Oxygen targets, using the microscopic optical potential and inelastic form factor calculated in the folding model. A complex density- and \emph{isospin} dependent version of the CDM3Y6 interaction was constructed, based on the Brueckner-Hatree-Fock calculation of nuclear matter, for the folding model input. Given an accurate isovector density dependence of the CDM3Y6 interaction, the isoscalar ($δ_0$) and isovector ($δ_1$) deformation lengths of 2$…
$0^+$, $1^-$, $2^+$, and $3^-$ excitations of $^{28}\textrm{Si}$ are investigated via proton and $α$ inelastic scattering off $^{28}\textrm{Si}$. The structure calculation of $^{28}\textrm{Si}$ is performed with the energy variation after total angular momentum and parity projections in the framework of antisymmetrized molecular dynamics (AMD). As a result of the AMD calculation, the oblate ground and prolate bands, $0^+$ and $3^-$ excitations, and the $1^-$ and $3^-$ states of the $K^π=0^-$ band are obtained. Using the matter and transition densities of $^{28}\textrm{Si}$ obtained by AMD, mic…
Inelastic proton scattering under extreme forward angles including $0^\circ$ and at energies of a few hundred MeV has been established as a new spectroscopic tool for the study of complete dipole strength distributions in nuclei. Such data allow an extraction of the electric dipole polarizability which provides important constraints parameters of the symmetry energy, which determine the neutron skin thickness and the equation of state (EOS) of neutron-rich matter. Also new insight into the much-debated nature of the pygmy dipole resonance (PDR) is obtained. Additionally, the isovector spin-M1 …
$α$ elastic and inelastic scattering on $^{12}$C is investigated with the coupled-channel calculation using microscopic $α$-$^{12}$C potentials, which are derived by folding the Melbourne $g$-matrix $NN$ interaction with the matter and transition densities of $^{12}$C. These densities are obtained by a microscopic structure model of the antisymmetrized molecular dynamics combined with and without the $3α$ generator coordinate method. The calculation reproduces satisfactorily well the observed elastic and inelastic cross sections at incident energies of $E_α=130$~MeV, 172.5~MeV, 240~MeV, and 38…
We introduce a novel approach based on elastic and inelastic scattering rates to extract the hyper-surface of the chemical freeze-out from a hadronic transport model in the energy range from E$_\mathrm{lab}=1.23$ AGeV to $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}}=62.4$ GeV. For this study, the Ultra-relativistic Quantum Molecular Dynamics (UrQMD) model combined with a coarse-graining method is employed. The chemical freeze-out distribution is reconstructed from the pions through several decay and re-formation chains involving resonances and taking into account inelastic, pseudo-elastic and string excitation reacti…
DWBA analysis of the inelastic $^{30-40}$S$(p,p')$ and $^{18-22}$O$(p,p')$ scattering data measured in the inverse kinematics has been performed to determine the isoscalar ($δ_0$) and isovector ($δ_1$) deformation lengths of the 2$^+_1$ excitations in the Sulfur and Oxygen isotopes using a compact folding approach. A systematic $N$-dependence of $δ_0$ and $δ_1$ has been established which shows a link between $δ_1$ and the neutron-shell closure. Strong isovector deformations were found in several cases, e.g., the 2$^+_1$ state in $^{20}$O where $δ_1$ is nearly three times larger than $δ_0$. The…
We propose a method to determine the isoscalar \bar K N scattering length on the lattice. Our method represents the generalization of Lüscher's approach in the presence of inelastic channels (complex scattering length). In addition, the proposed approach allows one to find the position of the S-matrix pole corresponding the the Lambda(1405) resonance.
Isospin characters of nuclear excitations in $^{26}$Mg and $^{10}$Be are investigated via proton($p$) and alpha($α$) inelastic scattering. A structure model of antisymmetrized molecular dynamics (AMD) is applied to calculate the ground and excited states of $^{26}$Mg and $^{10}$Be. The calculation describes the isoscalar feature of the ground-band $2^+_1$($K^π=0^+_1$) excitation and predicts the neutron dominance of the side-band $2^+_2$($K^π=2^+$) excitation in $^{26}$Mg and $^{10}$Be. The $p$ and $α$ inelastic scattering off $^{26}$Mg and $^{10}$Be is calculated by microscopic coupled-channe…
We demonstrate that hard dijet production via coherent inelastic diffraction is a promising channel for probing gluon saturation at the Electron-Ion Collider. By $inelastic$ diffraction we mean a process in which the two hard jets - a quark-antiquark pair generated by the decay of the virtual photon - are accompanied by a softer gluon jet, emitted by the quark or the antiquark. This process can be described as the elastic scattering of an effective gluon-gluon dipole. The cross section takes a factorised form, between a hard factor and a unintegrated ("Pomeron") gluon distribution describing t…
This paper presents the first calculations of proton inelastic scattering in which the medium effect of Pauli blocking is included through an exact, rather than angle averaged, operator. This improvement is important in the isoscalar channel at proton energies near 100 MeV and fades as the energy rises. However, processes that emphasize finite-range exchange (such as $0^+\to 0^-$ reactions) still see significant effects at 200 MeV. The results depend on the directions of the incident and struck nucleon momenta that produce the most important contributions to the DWBA integral at each scatterin…
Employing the polarization degrees of freedom in the deuteron allows to isolate smaller than average inter-nucleon distances in the deuteron. As a result one can identify set of high $Q^2$ reactions off polarized deuteron which are particularly sensitive to the short range dynamics of strong interaction. We concentrate on the studies of several aspects of the short range phenomena. These are the relativistic dynamics of electron--bound-nucleon scattering, color coherence in high $Q^2$ electro-production as well as the formation of the vector mesons in coherent electro-production from the deute…
A new tool which combines chiral perturbation theory and unitarity in coupled channels is applied with success to the study of the meson-meson interaction, extending the theoretical predictions up to sqrt{s} = 1.2 GeV, hence improving considerably the convergence radius of conventional chiral perturbation theory. The method is applied to obtain the meson-meson phase shifts and inelasticities as well as the isoscalar pion-pion scattering amplitude inside a nuclear medium.
Based on a baryon-baryon interaction model with meson exchanges, we investigate the origin of the strong attraction in the $N Ω( {}^{5}S_{2} )$ interaction, which was indicated by recent lattice QCD simulations. The long range part of the potential is constructed by the conventional mechanisms, the exchanges of the $η$ meson and of the correlated two mesons in the scalar-isoscalar channel, denoted by "$σ$" in the literature. The short range part is represented by the contact interaction. We find that the meson exchanges do not provide sufficient attraction. This means that most of the attracti…
