Quadrupole moments of decuplet baryons and the octet-decuplet transition quadrupole moments are calculated using Morpurgo's general QCD parameterization method. Certain relations among the decuplet and the octet to decuplet transition quadrupole moments are derived. These can be used to predict the $Δ$ quadrupole moments which are difficult to measure.
The chiral constituent quark model (\chiCQM) with general parameterization (GP) method has been formulated to calculate the quadrupole moments of the spin 3/2^+ decuplet baryons and spin 3/2^+ \to 1/2^+ transitions. The implications of such a model have been investigated in detail for the effects of symmetry breaking and GP parameters pertaining to the two- and three-quark contributions. It is found that the \chiCQM is successful in giving a quantitative and qualitative description of the quadrupole moments.
We develop a straightforward method to compute charge radii and quadrupole moments for baryons both with and without strangeness, when the number of QCD color charges is N_c. The minimal assumption of the single-photon exchange ansatz implies that only two operators are required to describe these baryon observables. Our results are presented so that SU(3) flavor and isospin symmetry breaking can be introduced according to any desired specification, although we also present results obtained from two patterns suggested by the quark model with gluon exchange interactions. The method also permits …
The electric quadrupole moments of the decuplet baryons are calculated in the bound state approach of the Skyrme model. In this approach, all the quadrupole moments of the decuplets are found to be proportional to the third component of the baryon isospin. Contrary to the SU(3) collective model, the kaonic contribution is as important as the pionic one. The transitional quadrupole moments of the hyperons are also predicted.
Experiments with $Ω^{\pm}$ baryons moving in a crystal at LHC in addition to EDM measurement open possibility to study electric quadrupole moment, to observe birefringence effect (spin oscillations and spin dichroism) for $Ω^{\pm}$ baryons and to get information about constants describing P-odd, T-odd effects at $Ω^{\pm}$ baryon interactions with electrons and nuclei
Spin rotation of $Ω^{\pm}$ baryons channeling in a bent crystal at the LHC in addition to EDM measurement open possibility to study $Ω^{\pm}$ baryons electric quadrupole moment. Equations for spin and tensor polarization rotation are presented along with the estimations study for values of the effects under discussion.
The electric quadrupole and magnetic octupole moments of the light decuplet baryons are calculated in the framework of the light cone QCD sum rules. The obtained non-vanishing values for the electric quadrupole and magnetic octupole moments of these baryons show nonspherical charge distribution. The sign of electric quadrupole moment is positive for $Ω^-$, $Ξ^{*-}$, $Σ^{*-}$ and negative for $Σ^{*+}$, which correspond to the prolate and oblate charge distributions, respectively. A comparison of the obtained results with the predictions of non-covariant quark model which shows a good consistenc…
In the SU3 Skyrme model the electric quadrupole moments of $\frac{3}{2}^+$ baryons show a strong sensitivity with respect to flavor distortions in baryon wavefunctions. SU3 symmetric wavefunctions lead to quadrupole moments proportional to the charge of the baryon whereas for strongly broken flavor symmetry a proportionality to baryonic isospin emerges. Since the flavor distortions in the wavefunctions also determine the strangeness content of the proton the Skyrme model provides a link between both quantities.
Chiral Magnetic Wave (CMW) is a gapless collective excitation of quark-gluon plasma in the presence of external magnetic field that stems from the interplay of Chiral Magnetic (CME) and Chiral Separation Effects (CSE); it is composed by the waves of the electric and chiral charge densities coupled by the axial anomaly. We consider CMW at finite baryon density and find that it induces the electric quadrupole moment of the quark-gluon plasma produced in heavy ion collisions: the "poles" of the produced fireball (pointing outside of the reaction plane) acquire additional positive electric charge,…
The electromagnetic form factors are the most fundamental quantities to describe the internal structure of the nucleon and the shape of a spatially extended particle is determined by its {\it intrinsic} quadrupole moment which is first order moment of the charge density operator. With some experimental indications of a deformed nucleon, we have calculated the {\it intrinsic} quadrupole moment of the octet and decuplet baryons in the framework of chiral constituent quark model \chiCQM which is quite successful in explaining some of the important baryon properties in the nonperturbative regime.
The quadrupole moments of ground state baryons are discussed in the framework of the 1/N(c) expansion of QCD, where N(c) is the number of color charges. Theoretical expressions are first provided assuming an exact SU(3) flavor symmetry, and then the effects of symmetry breaking are accounted for to linear order. The rather scarce experimental information available does not allow a detailed comparison between theory and experiment, so the free parameters in the approach are not determined. Instead, some useful new relations among quadrupole moments, valid even in the presence of first-order sym…
Due to the very short life time of the $Δ$ baryons, a direct measurement on the electromagnetic moments of these systems is almost impossible in the experiment and can only be done indirectly. Although only for the magnetic dipole moments of $Δ^{++}$ and $Δ^{+}$ systems there are some experimental data, the theoretical, phenomenological and lattice calculations could play crucial role. In present work, the magnetic dipole ($μ_Δ$) , electric quadrupole ($Q_Δ$) and magnetic octupole ($O_Δ$) moments of these baryons are computed within the light cone QCD sum rules. The results are compared with t…
We derive number of relations between quadrupole energy, elastic pressure, and shear force distributions in baryons using the large $N_c$ picture of baryons as chiral solitons. The obtained large $N_c$ relations are independent of particular dynamics and should hold in any picture in which the baryon is the chiral soliton. One of remarkable qualitative predictions of the soliton picture is the nullification of the tangential forces acting on the radial area element for any tensor polarisation of the baryon. The derived relations provide a powerful tool to check the hypothesis that the baryons …
The magnetic dipole G_M(Q^2), electric quadrupole G_E(Q^2), and Coulomb quadrupole G_C(Q^2) form factors, describing the spin-3/2 to spin-1/2 electromagnetic transitions, are investigated within the light cone QCD sum rules. The Q^2 dependence of these form factors, as well as ratios of electric quadrupole and Coulomb quadrupole form factors to the magnetic dipole form factors are studied. We also compare our results on the magnetic dipole form factor with the prediction of the covariant spectator quark model.
Baryon charge radii and quadrupole moments are calculated in a quark model generalized to an arbitrary number (N_c) of colors. Several relations among the charge radii and quadrupole moments are found. In particular, a previously derived relation between the neutron charge radius and the N-->Delta transition quadrupole moment is shown to hold for physical baryons as well in the large N_c limit.
We compute the leading contributions to the magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole moments of the baryon decuplet in chiral perturbation theory. The measured value for the magnetic moment of the $Ω^-$ is used to determine the local counterterm for the magnetic moments. We compare the chiral perturbation theory predictions for the magnetic moments of the decuplet with those of the baryon octet and find reasonable agreement with the predictions of the large--$N_c$ limit of QCD. The leading contribution to the quadrupole moment of the $Δ$ and other members of the decuplet comes from one--loop gr…
We costruct the relativistic operator of the quadrupole moment of two-particle composite spin one systems with zero orbital moment of the relative motion and derive explicit analytical expression for the quadrupole moment using the approach to relativistic composite systems based on our version of the instant-form relativistic quantum mechanics (RQM). We calculate the quadrupole moments of the rho meson and of the S-wave deuteron without any free parameters, using our unified pi&rho model (Phys. Rev.D 93, 036007 (2016); 97, 033007 (2018)) and our previous results on deuteron. Our calculation g…
We calculate expressions for the quadrupole moments of nonstrange baryons in which the number of QCD color charges is N_c. Using only the assumption of single-photon exchange, we obtain 4 relations among the 6 moments, and show how all of them may be obtained from Q_{Δ^+ p} up to O(1/N_c^2) corrections. We compare to the N_c=3 case, and obtain relations between the neutron charge radius and quadrupole moments. We also discuss prospects for the measurement of these moments.
Calculations of pion-baryon couplings, baryon quadrupole and octupole moments, baryon spin and orbital angular momentum done in collaboration with Ernest Henley are reviewed. A common theme of this work is the shape of baryons. Also, a personal account of my work with Ernest Henley during the period 1999-2013 is given.
We calculate the charge quadrupole and magnetic octupole moments of baryons using a group theoretical approach based on broken SU(6) spin-flavor symmetry. The latter is an approximate symmetry of the QCD Lagrangian which becomes exact in the large color N_c limit. Spin-flavor symmetry breaking is induced by one-, two-, and three-quark terms in the electromagnetic current operator. Two- and three-quark currents provide the leading contributions for higher multipole moments, despite being of higher order in an 1/N_c expansion. Our formalism leads to relations between N --> N* transition multipol…
We study the electromagnetic form factors of the lowest-lying singly heavy baryons in a pion mean-field approach, which is also known as the SU(3) chiral quark-soliton model. In the limit of the heavy-quark mass, the dynamics inside a singly heavy baryon is governed by the $N_c-1$ valence quarks, while the heavy quark remains as a mere static color source. In this framework, a singly heavy baryon is described by combining the colored soliton with the singly heavy quark. In the infinitely heavy-quark mass limit, we can compute the electric quadrupole form factors of the baryon sextet with spin …
Using a covariant spectator constituent quark model we predict an electric quadrupole moment -0.043 efm^2 and a magnetic octupole moment -0.0035 efm^3 for the Delta+ excited state of the nucleon.
Collective effects in deformed atomic nuclei present possible avenues of study on the non-spherical distribution of neutrons and the violation of the local Lorentz invariance. We introduce the weak quadrupole moment of nuclei, related to the quadrupole distribution of the weak charge in the nucleus. The weak quadrupole moment produces tensor weak interaction between the nucleus and electrons and can be observed in atomic and molecular experiments measuring parity nonconservation. The dominating contribution to the weak quadrupole is given by the quadrupole moment of the neutron distribution, t…
The charge radii and quadrupole moments of baryons with nonzero strangeness are calculated using a parametrization method based on the symmetries of the strong interaction.
We address the question of the intrinsic quadrupole moment Q_0 of the nucleon in various models. All models give a positive intrinsic quadrupole moment for the proton. This corresponds to a prolate deformation. We also calculate the intrinsic quadrupole moment of the Delta(1232). All our models lead to a negative intrinsic quadrupole moment of the Delta corresponding to an oblate deformation.
The neutrons cannot possess a quadrupole moment in the vacuum. Nevertheless, we show that in the presence of an external magnetic field the neutrons acquire a new type of quadrupole moment $Q^{ij}= χ\,σ^i B^j$ involving the components of spin and magnetic field. This "chiral magnetic" quadrupole moment arises from the interplay of the chiral anomaly and the magnetic field; we estimate its value for the neutron in the static limit, and find $χ\simeq 1.35\cdot10^{-2}\,{\rm fm}^4$. The detection of the quadrupole moment of the neutron would provide a novel test of the role of the chiral anomaly i…
We calculate the magnetic quadrupole moment (MQM) of the deuteron at leading order in the systematic expansion provided by chiral effective field theory. We take into account parity and time-reversal violation which, at the quark-gluon level, results from the QCD vacuum angle and dimension-six operators that originate from physics beyond the Standard Model. We show that the deuteron MQM can be expressed in terms of five low-energy constants that appear in the parity- and time-reversal-violating nuclear potential and electromagnetic current, four of which also contribute to the electric dipole …
Magnetic quadrupole moment of $W$-boson in Kobayashi-Maskawa model, I.B. Khriplovich and M.E. Pospelov, BUDKERINP 93--88 Due to CP-invariance violation a vector particle can acquire T- and P-odd electromagnetic moment, magnetic quadrupole one. The W-boson magnetic quadrupole moment is calculated in the Kobayashi-Maskawa model. This is the only known CP-odd moment arising in this model in two-loop approximation.
CP-violating interaction of the nuclear magnetic quadrupole moment (MQM) with electrons in the ytterbium mono-hydroxide molecule, $^{173}$YbOH, is considered. Both the magnetic quadrupole moment (MQM) of the $^{173}$Yb nucleus and the molecular interaction constant WM are estimated. Electron correlation effects are taken into account within the relativistic Fock-space coupled cluster method. Results are interpreted in terms of the strength constants of CP-violating nuclear forces, neutron EDM, QCD vacuum angle $θ$, quark EDM and chromo-EDM.
Recent data allow a new parametrization of the neutron charge form factor G_En. A parameter-free quark model relation between G_En and the N->Delta quadrupole form factor is used to predict the latter from the G_En data. In particular, the neutron charge radius is related to N->Delta quadrupole moment, while the fourth moment of G_En connects to the N->Delta quadrupole transition radius. From the latter we derive an experimental value for the charge radius of the light constituent quarks. Finally, the C2/M1 ratio in pion electroproduction is predicted from the elastic neutron form factor data.
The electromagnetic properties of the tetraquark state $Z_c(3900)$ are investigated in the diquark-antidiquark picture and its magnetic and quadrupole moments are extracted. To this end, the light-cone QCD sum rule in electromagnetic background field is used. The magnetic and quadrupole moments encode the spatial distributions of the charge and magnetization in the particle. The result obtained for the magnetic moment is quite large and can be measured in future experiments. We obtain a nonzero but small value for the quadrupole moment of $Zc(3900)$ indicating a nonspherical charge distributio…
Nuclear forces violating parity and time reversal invariance P,T-odd produce P,T-odd nuclear moments, for example, the nuclear Schiff moment. In turn, this moment can induce the electric dipole moment (EDM) in the atom. The contribution to the Schiff moment from the soft collective quadrupole and octupole vibrations in spherical nuclei is calculated in the framework of the quasiparticle random phase approximation with separable quadrupole and octupole forces. The values of nuclear Schiff moments predicted for odd 217-221Ra and 217-221Ra isotopes indicate a possibility of enhancement by a facto…
The magnetic and quadrupole moments of the light-vector and axial-vector mesons are calculated in the light cone QCD sum rules. Our results for the static properties of these mesons are compared with the predictions of lattice QCD as well as other approaches existing in the literature.
The CP-violating interaction of the nuclear magnetic quadrupole moment (MQM) of the $^{175}$Lu nucleus with electrons in the molecular cation LuOH$^+$ is studied. The resulting effect is expressed in terms of CP-odd parameters, such as quantum chromodynamics angle $\barθ$, quark electric dipole moment (EDM) and chromo-EDM. For this we have performed a calculation of the nuclear MQM as well as the molecular constant that characterises the interaction of this MQM of $^{175}$Lu with electrons. Additionally, we predict the hyperfine structure constants for the ground electronic state of LuOH$^+$. …
The existence of permanent electric dipole moments (EDMs) and magnetic quadrupole moments (MQMs) violate both time reversal invariance ($T$) and parity ($P$). Following the $CPT$ theorem they also violate combined $CP$ symmetry. Nuclear EDM are completely screened in atoms and molecules while interaction between electrons and MQM creates atomic and molecular EDM which can be measured and used to test CP-violation theories. Nuclear MQM are produced by the nucleon-nucleon $T,P$-odd interaction and by nucleon EDM. In this work we study the effect of enhancement of the nuclear MQM due to the nucle…
The Omega- has an extremely long lifetime, and is the most stable of the baryons with spin 3/2. Therefore the Omega- magnetic moment is very accurately known. Nevertheless, its electric quadrupole moment was never measured, although estimates exist in different formalisms. In principle, lattice QCD simulations provide at present the most appropriate way to estimate the Omega- form factors, as function of the square of the transferred four-momentum, Q2, since it describes baryon systems at the physical mass for the strange quark. However, lattice QCD form factors, and in particular GE2, are det…
Nuclear magnetic quadrupole moments (MQMs), like intrinsic electric dipole moments of elementary particles, violate both parity and time-reversal symmetry and therefore probe physics beyond the Standard Model of particle physics. We report on accurate relativistic coupled cluster calculations of the nuclear MQM interaction constants in BaF, YbF, BaOH, and YbOH. We elaborate on estimates of the uncertainty of our results. The implications of experiments searching for nonzero nuclear MQMs are discussed.
The transition magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole moments of the radiative decays of the sextet heavy flavored spin 3/2 to the heavy spin 1/2 baryons are calculated within the light cone QCD sum rules approach. Using the obtained results, the decay rate for these transitions are also computed and compared with the existing predictions of the other approaches.
Deformed nuclei possess enhanced moments violating time reversal invariance ($T$) and parity ($P$). Collective magnetic quadrupole moments (MQM) appear in nuclei with a quadrupole deformation (which have ordinary $T$,$P$-conserving collective electric quadrupole moments). Nuclei with an octupole deformation have a collective electric octupole moment, electric dipole moment (EDM), Schiff moment and MQM in the intrinsic frame which rotates with the nucleus. In a state with definite angular momentum in the laboratory frame, these moments are forbidden by $T$ and $P$ conservation, meaning their ex…
A particle, which moves in a crystal, experiences weak interactions with electrons and nuclei alongside with electromagnetic interaction. Measuring the polarization vector and the angular distribution of charged and neutral particles scattered by axes (planes) of an unbent (straight) crystal enables to obtain restrictions for the EDM value and for {magnitudes} of constants describing T-odd (CP-odd) interactions Beyond the Standard Model. Spin rotation and polarization conversion from vector to tensor one and vice versa for a channelled in a crystal $Ω^{\pm}$ hyperon enable measuring hyperon's …
