It is shown that the variance of a perturbation Hamiltonian density vanishes in the infinite-volume limit of the perturbed spin systems with quenched disorder. This is proven in a simpler way and under less assumptions than before. A corollary of this theorem indicates the impossibility of non-spontaneous replica symmetry-breaking in disordered spin systems. The commutativity between the infinite-volume limit and the switched-off limit of a replica symmetry-breaking perturbation implies that the variance of the spin overlap vanishes in the replica symmetric Gibbs state.
An averaging method is applied to derive effective approximation to the following singularly perturbed nonlinear stochastic damped wave equation νu_{tt}+u_t=\D u+f(u)+ν^α\dot{W} on an open bounded domain $D\subset\R^n$\,, $1\leq n\leq 3$\,. Here $ν>0$ is a small parameter characterising the singular perturbation, and $ν^α$\,, $0\leq α\leq 1/2$\,, parametrises the strength of the noise. Some scaling transformations and the martingale representation theorem yield the following effective approximation for small $ν$, u_t=\D u+f(u)+ν^α\dot{W} to an error of $\ord{ν^α}$\,.
We consider the damped-driven KdV equation $$ \dot u-ν{u_{xx}}+u_{xxx}-6uu_x=\sqrtνη(t,x), x\in S^1, \int u dx\equiv \intηdx\equiv0, $$ where $0<ν\le1$ and the random process $η$ is smooth in $x$ and white in $t$. For any periodic function $u(x)$ let $ I=(I_1,I_2,...) $ be the vector, formed by the KdV integrals of motion, calculated for the potential $u(x)$. We prove that if $u(t,x)$ is a solution of the equation above, then for $0\le t\lesssimν^{-1}$ and $ν\to0$ the vector $ I(t)=(I_1(u(t,\cdot)),I_2(u(t,\cdot)),...) $ satisfies the (Whitham) averaged equation.
We study effects of perturbation Hamiltonian to quantum spin systems which can include quenched disorder. Model-independent inequalities are derived, using an additional artificial disordered perturbation. These inequalities enable us to prove that the variance of the perturbation Hamiltonian density vanishes in the infinite volume limit even if the artificial perturbation is switched off. This theorem is applied to spontaneous symmetry breaking phenomena in a disordered classical spin model, a quantum spin model without disorder and a disordered quantum spin model.
The Einstein vacuum equations on an (n+1)-dimensional toroidal manifold $\mathbb{M}^{n+1}=\mathbb{T}^{n}\times\mathbb{R}^{+}$ reduce to a system of n-dimensional nonlinear ODEs in terms of the set of toroidal radii $(a_{i})_{i=1}^{n}$ or the radial moduli fields $(ψ_{i})_{i=1}^{n}=(\log(a_{i}(t))_{i=1}^{n}$ of the n-torus $\mathbb{T}^{n}$. This geometry is also the basis of Kasner-Bianchi-type cosmologies. The equations are trivially satisfied for static solutions $ψ_{i}^{E}=ψ^{E}$ or radii $a_{i}^{E}=a^{E}$, describing an initially static toroidal 'micro-universe' or 'vacuum bubble'. It is Ly…
We consider the inverse scattering problems for two types of Schrödinger operators on locally perturbed periodic lattices. For the discrete Hamiltonian, the knowledge of the S-matrix for all energies determines the graph structure and the coefficients of the Hamiltonian. For locally perturbed equilateral metric graphs, the knowledge of the S-matrix for all energies determines the graph structure.
The Landau Hamiltonian governing the behavior of a quantum particle in dimension 2 in a constant magnetic field is perturbed by a compactly supported magnetic field and a similar electric field. We describe how the spectral subspaces change and how the Landau levels split under this perturbation.
Consider $Γ$, a non-degenerate lattice in $\R^2$ and a constant magnetic field $B$ with a flux though a cell of $Γ$ that is a rational multiple of $2π$. We prove that for a generic $Γ$-periodic potential $V$, the spectrum of the Landau Hamiltonian with magnetic field $B$ and periodic potential $V$ is purely absolutely continuous.
Finite-dimensional non-canonical Hamiltonian systems arise naturally from Hamilton's principle in phase space. We present a method for deriving variational integrators that can be applied to perturbed non-canonical Hamiltonian systems on manifolds based on discretizing this phase-space variational principle. Relative to the perturbation parameter $ε$, this type of integrator can take $O(1)$ time steps with arbitrary accuracy in $ε$ by leveraging the unperturbed dynamics. Moreover, these integrators are coordinate independent in the sense that their time-advance rules transform correctly when p…
The Landau Hamiltonian, describing the behavior of a quantum particle in dimension 2 in a constant magnetic field, is perturbed by a magnetic field with power-like decay at infinity and a similar electric potential. We describe how the spectral subspaces change and how the Landau levels split under this perturbation.
We establish a sharp estimate on the size of the spectral clusters of the Landau Hamiltonian with $L^p$ potentials in two dimensions as the cluster index tends to infinity. In three dimensions, we prove a new limiting absorption principle as well as a unique continuation theorem. The results generalize to higher dimensions.
In the framework of perturbation theory the reality of the perturbed eigenvalues of a class of $\PT$symmetric Hamiltonians is proved using stability techniques. We apply this method to $\PT$symmetric unperturbed Hamiltonians perturbed by $\PT$symmetric additional interactions.
We consider time-dependent perturbations which are relatively bounded with respect to the square root of an unperturbed Hamiltonian operator, and whose commutator with the latter is controlled by the full perturbed Hamiltonian. The perturbation is modulated by two auxiliary parameters, one regulates its intensity as a prefactor and the other one controls its time-scale via a regular function, whose derivative is compactly supported in a finite interval. We introduce a natural generalization of energy conservation in the case of time-dependent Hamiltonians: the boundedness of the two-parameter …
We study the regularity properties of the Hausdorff distance between spectra of continuous Harper-like operators. As a special case we obtain Hölder continuity of this Hausdorff distance with respect to the intensity of the magnetic field for a large class of magnetic elliptic (pseudo)differential operators with long range magnetic fields.
In this paper, the method of approximate transformation groups which was proposed by Baikov, Gazizov and Ibragimov, is extended on Hamiltonian and bi-Hamiltonian systems of evolution equations. Indeed, as a main consequence, this extended procedure is applied in order to compute the approximate conservation laws and approximate recursion operators corresponding to these types of equations. In particular, as an application, a comprehensive analysis of the problem of approximate conservation laws and approximate recursion operators associated to the Gardner equation with the small parameters is …
We prove the reality of the perturbed eigenvalues of some PT symmetric Hamiltonians of physical interest by means of stability methods. In particular we study 2-dimensional generalized harmonic oscillators with polynomial perturbation and the one-dimensional $x^2(ix)^ε$ for $-1<ε<0$.
For two self-adjoint operators $H,A$ we show that a general commutation relation of type $[H,\mathrm{i}A]=Q(H)+K$, in addition to regularity of $H$ and Kato-smoothness of $K$, guarantee pointwise in time decay rates of diverse order. The methodology is based on the construction of a modified conjugate operator $\tilde{A}$ that reduces the problem to previously developed estimates when $K=0$. Our results apply to energy thresholds and do not rely on resolvent estimates. We discuss applications for the Schrödinger equation (SE) with potential of critical decay, and for the free SE on an asymptot…
We develop further the approach to upper and lower bounds in quantum dynamics via complex analysis methods which was introduced by us in a sequence of earlier papers. Here we derive upper bounds for non-time averaged outside probabilities and moments of the position operator from lower bounds for transfer matrices at complex energies. Moreover, for the time-averaged transport exponents, we present improved lower bounds in the special case of the Fibonacci Hamiltonian. These bounds lead to an optimal description of the time-averaged spreading rate of the fast part of the wavepacket in the large…
We construct Lie algebras arising from commutators of the harmonic Hamiltonian and the perturbed anharmonic Hamiltonian. From there we form a very specific element of the associated Lie group and transform the unperturbed Hamiltonian into the perturbed Hamiltonian minus perturbation energies. An explicit formula is given for the first order perturbation energy of all Hamiltonians of the form H = a^{\dagger}a + 1/2 + λx^n.
Analytical perturbations of a family of finite-dimensional Poisson systems are considered. It is shown that the family is analytically orbitally conjugate in $U \subset \mathbb{R}^n$ to a planar harmonic oscillator defined on the symplectic leaves. As a consequence, the perturbed vector field can be transformed in the domain $U$ to the Lagrange standard form. On the latter, use can be made of averaging theory up to second order to study the existence, number and bifurcation phenomena of periodic orbits. Examples are given ranging from harmonic oscillators with a potential and Duffing oscillato…
We study the kinetic, weak coupling limit of the dynamics governed by a discrete random Schrödinger operator on $\mathbb{Z}^3$. For sequences of $\ell^2\left(\mathbb{Z}^3\right)$-bounded initial states and convergent initial Wigner transform, we prove that the scaled Wigner transform converges to the solution of a linear Boltzmann equation in $L^r\left(\mathbb{P}\right)$for all $r>0$, thus considerably strengthening a previous result by Chen. The key ingredients for the proof are a finer classification of graphs in the expansion of the perturbed dynamics as well as a novel resolvent estimate f…
The Anderson Hamiltonian $H_0=-Δ+V(x,ω)$ is considered, where $V$ is a random potential of Bernoulli type. The operator $H_0$ is perturbed by a non-random, continuous potential $-w(x) \leq 0$, decaying at infinity. It will be shown that the borderline between finitely, and infinitely many negative eigenvalues of the perturbed operator, is achieved with a decay of the potential $-w(x)$ as $O(\ln^{-2/d} |x|)$.
We consider a perturbed Floquet Hamiltonian $-i\partial_t + H + βV(ωt)$ in the Hilbert space $L^2([0,T],E,dt)$. Here $H$ is a self-adjoint operator in $E$ with a discrete spectrum obeying a growing gap condition, $V(t)$ is a symmetric bounded operator in $E$ depending on $t$ $2π$-periodically, $ω= 2π/T$ is a frequency and $β$ is a coupling constant. The spectrum $Spec(-i\partial_t + H)$ of the unperturbed part is pure point and dense in $R$ for almost every $ω$. This fact excludes application of the regular perturbation theory. Nevertheless we show, for almost all $ω$ and provided $V(t)$ is su…
We study the regularized $(2n-1)$-Kepler problem and other Hamiltonian systems which are related to the nilpotent coadjoint orbits of $U(n,n)$. The Kustaanheimo-Stiefel and Cayley regularization procedures are discussed and their equivalence is shown. Some integrable generalization (perturbation) of $(2n-1)$-Kepler problem is proposed.
In this paper we adapt the mathematical machinery presented in \cite{P1} to get, by means of the Laplace-Beltrami operator, the discrete spectrum of the Hamiltonian of the Schrödinger operator perturbed by an actractive 3D delta interaction in a Friedmann flat universe. In particular, as a consequence of the treatment in \cite{P1} suitable for a Minkowski spacetime, the discrete spectrum of the ground state and the first exited state in the above mentioned cosmic framework can be regained. Thus, the coupling constant $λ$ must be choosen as a function of the cosmic comooving time $t$ as $λ/a^{2…
We develop a rigorous analytical Hamiltonian formalism adapted to the study of the motion of two planets in co-orbital resonance. By constructing a complex domain of holomorphy for the planetary Hamilto-nian, we estimate the size of the transformation that maps this Hamil-tonian to its first order averaged over one of the fast angles. After having derived an integrable approximation of the averaged problem, we bound the distance between this integrable approximation and the averaged Hamiltonian. This finally allows to prove rigorous theorems on the behavior of co-orbital motions over a finite …
In this paper we consider the averaging of local field-theoretic Poisson brackets in the multi-dimensional case. As a result, we construct a local Poisson bracket for the regular Whitham system in the multidimensional situation. The procedure is based on the procedure of averaging of local conservation laws and follows the Dubrovin - Novikov scheme of the bracket averaging suggested in one-dimensional case. However, the features of the phase space of modulated parameters in higher dimensions lead to a different natural class of the averaged brackets in comparison with the one-dimensional situa…
Under a perturbation by a decaying electric potential, the Landau Hamiltonian acquires some discrete eigenvalues between the Landau levels. We study the perturbation by an "expanding" electric potential $V(t^{-1}x)$, $t>0$, and derive a quasi-classical formula for the counting function of the discrete spectrum as $t\to \infty$.
We decorate the one-dimensional conic oscillator $\frac{1}{2} \left[-\frac{d^{2} }{dx^{2} } + \left|x \right| \right]$ with a point impurity of either $δ$-type, or local $δ'$-type or even nonlocal $δ'$-type. All the three cases are exactly solvable models, which are explicitly solved and analysed, as a first step towards higher dimensional models of physical relevance. We analyse the behaviour of the change in the energy levels when an interaction of the type $-λ\,δ(x)$ or $-λ\,δ(x-x_0)$ is switched on. In the first case, even energy levels (pertaining to antisymmetric bound states) remain inv…
In this note, we study Lifshitz tails for a 2D Landau Hamiltonian perturbed by a random alloy-type potential constructed with single site potentials decaying at least at a Gaussian speed. We prove that, if the Landau level stays preserved as a band edge for the perturbed Hamiltonian, at the Landau levels, the integrated density of states has a Lifshitz behavior of the type $e^{-\log^2|E-2bq|}$.
We consider metric perturbations of the Landau Hamiltonian. We investigate the asymptotic behaviour of the discrete spectrum of the perturbed operator near the Landau levels, for perturbations with power-like decay, exponential decay or compact support.
In this paper we exploit the technique used in \cite{A}-\cite{5b} to deal with delta interactions in a rigorous way in a curved spacetime represented by a cosmic string along the $z$ axis. This mathematical machinery is applied in order to study the discrete spectrum of a point-mass particle confined in an infinitely long cylinder with a conical defect on the $z$ axis and perturbed by two identical attractive delta interactions symmetrically situated around the origin. We derive a suitable approximate formula for the total energy. As a consequence, we found the existence of a mixing of states …
We consider the Landau Hamiltonian perturbed by a long-range electric potential $V$. The spectrum of the perturbed operator consists of eigenvalue clusters which accumulate to the Landau levels. First, we obtain an estimate of the rate of the shrinking of these clusters to the Landau levels as the number of the cluster $q$ tends to infinity. Further, we assume that there exists an appropriate $\V$, homogeneous of order $-ρ$ with $ρ\in (0,1)$, such that $V(x) = \V(x) + O(|x|^{-ρ- ε})$, $ε> 0$, as $|x| \to \infty$, and investigate the asymptotic distribution of the eigenvalues within a given clu…
We apply a method of group averaging to states and operators appearing in (truncations of) the Spin(9) x SU(N) invariant matrix models. We find that there is an exact correspondence between the standard supersymmetric Hamiltonian and the Spin(9) average of a relatively simple lower-dimensional model.
