We apply a method of group averaging to states and operators appearing in (truncations of) the Spin(9) x SU(N) invariant matrix models. We find that there is an exact correspondence between the standard supersymmetric Hamiltonian and the Spin(9) average of a relatively simple lower-dimensional model.
The notions of weak and strong minimizability of a matrix intertwining operator are introduced. Criterion of strong minimizability of a matrix intertwining operator is revealed. Criterion and sufficient condition of existence of a constant symmetry matrix for a matrix Hamiltonian are presented. A method of constructing of a matrix Hamiltonian with a given constant symmetry matrix in terms of a set of arbitrary scalar functions and eigen- and associated vectors of this matrix is offered. Examples of constructing of $2\times2$ matrix Hamiltonians with given symmetry matrices for the cases of dif…
We study intertwining relations for $n\times n$ matrix non-Hermitian, in general, one-dimensional Hamiltonians by $n\times n$ matrix linear differential operators with nondegenerate coefficients at $d/dx$ in the highest degree. Some methods of constructing of $n\times n$ matrix intertwining operator of the first order of general form are proposed and their interrelation is examined. As example we construct $2\times2$ matrix Hamiltonian of general form intertwined by operator of the first order with the Hamiltonian with zero matrix potential. It is shown that one can add for the final $2\times2…
In this paper we continue studying of matrix $n\times n$ linear differential intertwining operators. The problems of minimization and of reducibility of matrix intertwining operators are considered and criterions of weak minimizability and of regular reducibility are proven. It is shown that in contrast to the scalar case $n=1$ there are for any $n\geqslant2$ regularly absolutely irreducible matrix intertwining operators of any order $N\geqslant2$, {\it i.e.} operators which cannot be factorized into a product of a matrix intertwining operators of lower orders even with a pole singularity(-ies…
We review some of the strategies that can be implemented to infer an $R$-matrix from the knowledge of its Hamiltonian. We apply them to the classification achieved in arXiv:1306.6303, on three state $U(1)$-invariant Hamiltonians solvable by CBA, focusing on models for which the $S$-matrix is not trivial. For the 19-vertex solutions, we recover the $R$-matrices of the well-known Zamolodchikov--Fateev and Izergin--Korepin models. We point out that the generalized Bariev Hamiltonian is related to both main and special branches studied by Martins in arXiv:1303.4010, that we prove to generate the s…
We study intertwining relations for matrix one-dimensional, in general, non-Hermitian Hamiltonians by matrix differential operators of arbitrary order. It is established that for any matrix intertwining operator Q_N^- of minimal order N there is a matrix operator Q_{N'}^+ of different, in general, order N' that intertwines the same Hamiltonians as Q_N^- in the opposite direction and such that the products Q_{N'}^+Q_N^- and Q_N^-Q_{N'}^+ are identical polynomials of the corresponding Hamiltonians. The related polynomial algebra of supersymmetry is constructed. The problems of minimization and o…
A general method to derive the diagonal representation for a generic matrix valued quantum Hamiltonian is proposed. In this approach new mathematical objects like non-commuting operators evolving with the Planck constant promoted as a running variable are introduced. This method leads to a formal compact expression for the diagonal Hamiltonian which can be expanded in a power series of the Planck constant. In particular, we provide an explicit expression for the diagonal representation of a generic Hamiltonian to the second order in the Planck constant. This last result is applied, as a physic…
We formulate the planar `large N limit' of matrix models with a continuously infinite number of matrices directly in terms of U(N) invariant variables. Non-commutative probability theory, is found to be a good language to describe this formulation. The change of variables from matrix elements to invariants induces an extra term in the hamiltonian, which is crucual in determining the ground state. We find that this collective potential has a natural meaning in terms of non-commutative probability theory:it is the `free Fisher information' discovered by Voiculescu. This formulation allows us to f…
Using techniques of supersymmetric quantum mechanics, scattering properties of Hermitian Hamiltonians, which are related to non-Hermitian ones by similarity transformations, are studied. We have found that the scattering matrix of the Hermitian Hamiltonian coincides with the phase factor of the non-unitary scattering matrix of the non-Hermitian Hamiltonian. The possible presence of a spectral singularity in a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian translates into a pronounced resonance in the scattering cross section of its Hermitian counterpart. This opens a way for detecting spectral singularities in sca…
We bring together aspects of covariant Hamiltonian field theory and of classical integrable field theories in $1+1$ dimensions. Specifically, our main result is to obtain for the first time the classical $r$-matrix structure within a covariant Poisson bracket for the Lax connection, or Lax one form. This exhibits a certain covariant nature of the classical $r$-matrix with respect to the underlying spacetime variables. The main result is established by means of several prototypical examples of integrable field theories, all equipped with a Zakharov-Shabat type Lax pair. Full details are present…
Matrix quasi exactly solvable operators are considered and new conditions are determined to test whether a matrix differential operator possesses one or several finite dimensional invariant vector spaces. New examples of $2\times 2$-matrix quasi exactly solvable operators are constructed with the emphasis set on PT-symmetric Hamiltonians.
We consider quantum systems consisting of a linear chain of n harmonic oscillators coupled by a nearest neighbour interaction of the form $-q_r q_{r+1}$ ($q_r$ refers to the position of the $r$th oscillator). In principle, such systems are always numerically solvable and involve the eigenvalues of the interaction matrix. In this paper, we investigate when such a system is analytically solvable, i.e. when the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the interaction matrix have analytically closed expressions. This is the case when the interaction matrix coincides with the Jacobi matrix of a system of di…
We present detailed discussions on the stochastic Hamiltonians for non-critical string field theories on the basis of matrix models. Beginning from the simplest $c=0$ case, we derive the explicit forms of the Hamiltonians for the higher critical case $k=3$ (which corresponds to $c=-22/5$) and for the case $c=1/2$, directly from the double-scaled matrix models. In particular, for the two-matrix case, we do not put any restrictions on the spin configurations of the string fields. The properties of the resulting infinite algebras of Schwinger-Dyson operators associated with the Hamiltonians and t…
We compute string field theory Hamiltonian matrix elements and compare them with matrix elements of the dilatation operator in gauge theory. We get precise agreement between the string field theory and gauge theory computations once the correct cubic Hamiltonian matrix elements in string field theory and a particular basis of states in gauge theory are used. We proceed to compute the matrix elements of the dilatation operator to order g_2^2 in this same basis. This calculation makes a prediction for string field theory Hamiltonian matrix elements to order g_2^2, which have not yet been compute…
For the rational, elliptic and trigonometric r-matrices, we exhibit the links between three "levels" of Poisson spaces: (a) Some finite-dimensional spaces of matrix-valued holomorphic functions on the complex line; (b) Spaces of spectral curves and sheaves supported on them; (c) Symmetric products of a surface. We have, at each level, a linear space of compatible Poisson structures, and the maps relating the levels are Poisson. This leads in a natural way to Nijenhuis coordinates for these spaces. At level (b), there are Hamiltonian systems on these spaces which are integrable for each Poisson…
We implement the Rayleigh-Ritz method in supersymmetric quantum mechanics with flat directions, and extract the S-matrix and metastable resonances. The effectiveness of the method is demonstrated in two strongly coupled systems: an N=1 toy supermembrane model, and an N=4 model with a U(1) gauge multiplet and a charged chiral multiplet.
The eigenvalues of the Corner Transfer Matrix Hamiltonian associated to the elliptic $R$ matrix of the eight vertex free fermion model are computed in the anisotropic case for magnetic field smaller than the critical value. An argument based on generating functions is given, and the results are checked numerically. The spectrum consists of equally spaced levels.
We compute the leading contribution to the effective Hamiltonian of SU(N) matrix theory in the limit of large separation. We work with a gauge fixed Hamiltonian and use generalized Born-Oppenheimer approximation, extending the recent work of Halpern and Schwartz for SU(2). The answer turns out to be a free Hamiltonian for the coordinates along the flat directions of the potential. Applications to finding ground state candidates and calculation of the correction (surface) term to Witten index are discussed.
This article describes a method for calculating S-matrix elements using Hamiltonians obtained in the renormalization group procedure for effective particles. It is shown that the scattering amplitudes obtained using a canonical Hamiltonian $H^Δ$ with counterterms are the same as those obtained using a renormalized Hamiltonian for effective particles, $H_λ$. The result is independent of the ultraviolet cutoff $Δ$ and the renormalization-group parameter $λ$.
We study a generalized version of the Hamiltonian constraint operator in nonperturbative loop quantum gravity. The generalization is based on admitting arbitrary irreducible SU(2) representations in the regularization of the operator, in contrast to the original definition where only the fundamental representation is taken. This leads to a quantization ambiguity and to a family of operators with the same classical limit. We calculate the action of the Euclidean part of the generalized Hamiltonian constraint on trivalent states, using the graphical notation of Temperley-Lieb recoupling theory. …
The Faddeev-Reshetikhin model arises as a truncation of strings in AdS_5XS^5. Its two particle S-matrix should be obtained by diagonalizing its Hamiltonian. However this does not happen in a straightforward way. There is a Lorentz violating term in the Hamiltonian which prevents its plain diagonalization. We then find out the most general quartic Hamiltonian that can be diagonalized. It includes the bosonic Thirring model as well as another model which shares the same two particle S-matrix as the Faddeev-Reshetikhin model. We also find a one parameter family of interactions which lead to non-H…
We establish a strong-weak coupling duality between two types of free matrix models. In the large-N limit, the real-symmetric matrix model is dual to the quaternionic-real matrix model. Using the large-N conformal invariant collective field formulation, the duality is displayed in terms of the generators of the conformal group. The conformally invariant master Hamiltonian is constructed and we conjecture that the master Hamiltonian corresponds to the hermitian matrix model.
We study the question of diagonalizability of the Hamiltonian for the Faddeev-Reshetikhin (FR) model in the two particle sector. Although the two particle S-matrix element for the FR model, which may be relevant for the quantization of strings on $AdS_{5}\times S^{5}$, has been calculated recently using field theoretic methods, we find that the Hamiltonian for the system in this sector is not diagonalizable. We trace the difficulty to the fact that the interaction term in the Hamiltonian violating Lorentz invariance leads to discontinuity conditions (matching conditions) that cannot be satisfi…
Statistical models corresponding to a new class of braid matrices ($\hat{o}_N; N\geq 3$) presented in a previous paper are studied. Indices labeling states spanning the $N^r$ dimensional base space of $T^{(r)}(θ)$, the $r$-th order transfer matrix are so chosen that the operators $W$ (the sum of the state labels) and (CP) (the circular permutation of state labels) commute with $T^{(r)}(θ)$. This drastically simplifies the construction of eigenstates, reducing it to solutions of relatively small number of simultaneous linear equations. Roots of unity play a crucial role. Thus for diagonalizing …
Given a Hamiltonian with a continuous symmetry one can generally factorize that symmetry and consider the dynamics on invariant Hilbert Spaces. In Statistical Mechanics this procedure is known as the vertex-IRF map, and in certain cases, like rotational invariant Hamiltonians, can be implemented via group theoretical techniques. Using this map we translate the DMRG method, which applies to 1d vertex Hamiltonians, into a formulation adequate to study IRF Hamiltonians. The advantage of the IRF formulation of the DMRG method ( we name it IRF-DMRG), is that the dimensions of the Hilbert Spaces inv…
