We study the Bowen topological entropy of generic and irregular points for certain dynamical systems. We define the topological entropy of noncompact sets for flows, analogous to Bowen's definition. We show that this entropy coincides with the Bowen topological entropy of the time-1 map on any set. We also show a Bowen's inequality for flows; namely, that the metric entropy with respect to every invariant measure for a continuous flow is an upper bound for the topological entropy of the set of generic points with respect to the same measure, and the equality is always true if the measure is ergodic. We propose a definition of almost specification property for flows and prove that a continuous flow has the almost specification property if the time-1 map satisfies this property. Using Bowen's inequality for flows, we show that every continuous flow with the almost specification property is saturated, extending a result of Meson and Vericat in [22]. Under the same hypotheses, we extend a result of Thompson on the entropy of irregular points in [30].
A classical result in thermodynamic formalism is that for uniformly hyperbolic systems, every Hölder continuous potential has a unique equilibrium state. One proof of this fact is due to Rufus Bowen and uses the fact that such systems satisfy expansivity and specification properties. In these notes, we survey recent progress that uses generalizations of these properties to extend Bowen's arguments beyond uniform hyperbolicity, including applications to partially hyperbolic systems and geodesic flows beyond negative curvature. We include a new criterion for uniqueness of equilibrium states for …
It is well-known that for expansive maps and continuous potential functions, the specification property (for the map) and the Bowen property (for the potential) together imply the existence of a unique equilibrium state. We consider symbolic spaces that may not have specification, and potentials that may not have the Bowen property, and give conditions under which uniqueness of the equilibrium state can still be deduced. Our approach is to ask that the collection of cylinders which are obstructions to the specification property or the Bowen property is small in an appropriate quantitative sens…
We consider the uniqueness of equilibrium states for dynamical systems that satisfy certain weak, non-uniform versions of specification, expansivity, and the Bowen property at a fixed scale. Following Climenhaga-Thompson's approach which was originally due to Bowen and Franco, we prove that equilibrium states are unique even when the weak specification assumption only holds on a small collection of orbit segments.
In this work we give general conditions under which a $C^0$ perturbation of an expansive homeomorphim with specification property has an unique Bowen measure, that is, there is an ergodic probability measure which is the unique measure maximizing the topological entropy. We apply these conditions to show that several derived from Anosov diffeomorphims have a unique Bowen measure.
In [2], Bowen showed that for an expansive system (X, T) with specification and a potential with the Bowen property, the equilibrium state is unique and fully supported. We generalize that result by showing that the same conclusion holds for non-uniform versions of Bowen's hypotheses in which constant parameters are replaced by any increasing unbounded functions f(n) and g(n) with sublogarithmic growth (in n). We prove results for two weakenings of specification; the first is non-uniform specification, based on a definition of Marcus in ([14]), and the second is a significantly weaker property…
Using an approach due to Bowen, Franco showed that continuous expansive flows with specification have unique equilibrium states for potentials with the Bowen property. We show that this conclusion remains true using weaker non-uniform versions of specification, expansivity, and the Bowen property. We also establish a corresponding result for homeomorphisms. In the homeomorphism case, we obtain the upper bound from the level-2 large deviations principle for the unique equilibrium state. The theory presented in this paper provides the basis for an ongoing program to develop the thermodynamic for…
We introduce pointwise measure expansivity for bi-measurable maps. We show through examples that this notion is weaker than measure expansivity. In spite of this fact, we show that many results for measure expansive systems hold true for pointwise systems as well. Then, we study the concept of mixing, specification and chaos at a point in the phase space of a continuous map. We show that mixing at a shadowable point is not sufficient for it to be a specification point, but mixing of the map force a shadowable point to be a specification point. We prove that periodic specification points are De…
Since seminal work of Bowen, it has been known that the specification property implies various useful properties about a topological dynamical system, among them uniqueness of the measure of maximal entropy (often referred to as intrinsic ergodicity). Weakenings of the specification property called almost weak specification and almost specification have been defined and profitably applied in various works. However, it has been an open question whether either or both of these properties imply intrinsic ergodicity. We answer this question negatively by exhibiting examples of subshifts with multi…
Bowen showed that a continuous expansive map with specification has a unique measure of maximal entropy. We show that the conclusion remains true under weaker non-uniform versions of these hypotheses. To this end, we introduce the notions of obstructions to expansivity and specification, and show that if the entropy of such obstructions is smaller than the topological entropy of the map, then there is a unique measure of maximal entropy.
In this paper we introduce the notions of topological entropy and topological pressure for non-autonomous iterated function systems (or NAIFSs for short) on countably infinite alphabets. NAIFSs differ from the usual (autonomous) iterated function systems, they are given \cite{LGMU} by a sequence of collections of continuous maps on a compact topological space, where maps are allowed to vary between iterations. Several basic properties of topological pressure and topological entropy of NAIFSs are provided. Especially, we generalize the classical Bowen's result to NAIFSs ensures that the topolog…
Let $(X,d,T )$ be a topological dynamical system with specification property. For $ α\in \mathbb R^+$ and any $x_0\in X$, define $$ \mathbf D^{x_0}_α:=\Big\{x\in X: \lim\limits_{ε\to 0}\limsup\limits_{n\to\infty}\dfrac{\max\{t\in\mathbb N:~T^n(x)\in B_{t}( x_0,ε)\}}{n}\geq α\Big\}.$$ Then we have $h_{top}^{B} ( T, \mathbf D^{x_0}_α)= \dfrac{h_{top}(T)}{1+α} $, where $h_{top}^{B} ( T, \mathbf D^{x_0}_α)$ denotes the Bowen topological entropy of $\mathbf D^{x_0}_α.$
In this article we mainly aim to know what kind of asymptotic behavior of typical orbits can display. For example, we show in any transitive system, the emprical measures of a typical orbit can cover all emprical measures of dense orbits and can intersect some physical-like measures. In particular, if the union set of emprical measures of all dense orbits is not singleton, then the typical orbit will display historic behavior simultaneously for typical continuous functions and the limit set of ergodic average along every continuous function equals to a closed interval composed by the union of …
Let $(X, σ_X), (Y, σ_Y)$ be one-sided subshifts with the specification property and $π:X\rightarrow Y$ a factor map. Let $μ$ be a unique invariant Gibbs measure for a sequence of continuous functions $\F=\{\log f_n\}_{n=1}^{\infty}$ on $X$, which is an almost additive potential with bounded variation. We show that $πμ$ is also a unique invariant Gibbs measure for a sequence of continuous functions $\G=\{\log g_n\}_{n=1}^{\infty}$ on $Y$. When $(X, σ_X)$ is a full shift, we characterize $\G$ and $μ$ by using relative pressure. This almost additive potential $\G$ is a generalization of a continu…
Let $\mathcal{M}(X)$ be the space of Borel probability measures on a compact metric space $X$ endowed with the weak$^\ast$-topology. In this paper, we prove that if the topological entropy of a nonautonomous dynamical system $(X,\{f_n\}_{n=1}^{+\infty})$ vanishes, then so does that of its induced system $(\mathcal{M}(X),\{f_n\}_{n=1}^{+\infty})$; moreover, once the topological entropy of $(X,\{f_n\}_{n=1}^{+\infty})$ is positive, that of its induced system $(\mathcal{M}(X),\{f_n\}_{n=1}^{+\infty})$ jumps to infinity. In contrast to Bowen's inequality, we construct a nonautonomous dynamical sys…
In this work we study the Ruelle Operator associated to a continuous potential defined on a countable product of a compact metric space. We prove a generalization of Bowen's criterion for the uniqueness of the eigenmeasures. One of the main results of the article is to show that a probability is DLR-Gibbs (associated to a continuous translation invariant specification), if and only if, is an eigenprobability for the transpose of the Ruelle operator. Bounded extensions of the Ruelle operator to the Lebesgue space of integrable functions, with respect to the eigenmeasures, are studied and the pr…
Packing topological entropy is a dynamical analogy of the packing dimension, which can be viewed as a counterpart of Bowen topological entropy. In the present paper, we will give a systematically study to the packing topological entropy for a continuous $G$-action dynamical system $(X,G)$, where $X$ is a compact metric space and $G$ is a countable discrete amenable group. We first prove a variational principle for amenable packing topological entropy: for any Borel subset $Z$ of $X$, the packing topological entropy of $Z$ equals the supremum of upper local entropy over all Borel probability me…
We investigate in this work some situations where it is possible to estimate or determine the upper and the lower $q$-generalized fractal dimensions $D^{\pm}_μ(q)$, $q\in\mathbb{R}$, of invariant measures associated with continuous transformations over compact metric spaces. In particular, we present an alternative proof of Young's Theorem~\cite{Young} for the generalized fractal dimensions of the Bowen-Margulis measure associated with a $C^{1+α}$-Axiom A system over a two-dimensional compact Riemannian manifold $M$. We also present estimates for the generalized fractal dimensions of an ergodi…
In this paper we deal with an invariant ergodic hyperbolic measure $μ$ for a diffeomorphism $f,$ assuming that $f$ it is either $C^{1+α}$ or $f$ is $C^1$ and the Oseledec splitting of $μ$ is dominated. We show that this system $(f,μ)$ satisfies a weaker and non-uniform version of specification, related with notions studied in several recent papers, including \cite{STV,Y, PS, T,Var, Oli}. Our main results have several consequences: as corollaries, we are able to improve the results about quantitative Poincaré recurrence, removing the assumption of the non-uniform specification property in the m…
Sofic entropy is an invariant for probability-preserving actions of sofic groups. It was introduced a few years ago by Lewis Bowen, and shown to extend the classical Kolmogorov-Sinai entropy from the setting of amenable groups. Some parts of Kolmogorov-Sinai entropy theory generalize to sofic entropy, but in other respects this new invariant behaves less regularly. This paper explores conditions under which sofic entropy is additive for Cartesian products of systems. It is always subadditive, but the reverse inequality can fail. We define a new entropy-notion in terms of probability distributi…
We are interested in the study of Gibbs and equilbrium probabilities on the lattice $\mathbb{R}^{\mathbb{N}}$. Consider the unilateral full-shift defined on the non-compact set $\mathbb{R}^{\mathbb{N}}$ and an $α$-Hölder continuous potential $A$ from $\mathbb{R}^{\mathbb{N}}$ into $\mathbb{R}$. From a suitable class of a priori probability measures $ν$ (over the Borelian sets of $\mathbb{R}$) we define the Ruelle operator associated to $A$ (using an adequate extension of this operator to the compact set $\overline{\mathbb{R}}^\mathbb{N}=(S^1)^\mathbb{N}$) and we show the existence of eigenfunc…
Let $X = \{1,-1\}^\mathbb{N}$ be the symbolic space endowed with the product order. A Borel probability measure $μ$ over $X$ is said to satisfy the FKG inequality if for any pair of continuous increasing functions $f$ and $g$ we have $μ(fg)-μ(f)μ(g)\geq 0$. In the first part of the paper we prove the validity of the FKG inequality on Thermodynamic Formalism setting for a class of eigenmeasures of the dual of the Ruelle operator, including several examples of interest in Statistical Mechanics. In addition to deducing this inequality in cases not covered by classical results about attractive spe…
