Throughout the history of Einstein manifolds, differential geometers have shown great interest in finding the relationships between curvature and the topology of Einstein manifolds. In the paper, first, we prove that a compact Einstein manifold $(M,g)$ with Einstein constant $α>0$ is a homo-logical sphere when the minimum of its sectional curvatures $> α/(n+ 2)$; in particular, $(M,g)$ is a spherical space form when the minimum of its sectional curvatures $> α/ n$. Second, we prove two propositions (similar to the above ones) for Tachibana numbers of a compact Einstein manifold $(M,g)$ with $α< 0$.
We present a rough classification of differential forms on a Riemannian manifold, we consider definitions and properties of conformal Killing forms on a compact Riemannian manifold and define Tachibana numbers as an analog of the well known Betti numbers. We state the conditions that characterize these numbers. In the last section we show connections between the Betti and Tachibana numbers.
We present definitions and properties of conformal Killing, Killing and planarity forms on a Riemannian manifold and determine Tachibana, Killing and planarity numbers as an analog of the well known Betti numbers. We state some set of conditions to characterize these numbers. Moreover, we formulate the main results on the relationship between the Betti, Tachibana, Killing and planarity numbers.
We prove that a compact Riemannian manifold of dimension $m \geq 3$ with harmonic curvature and $\lfloor\frac{m-1}{2}\rfloor$-positive curvature operator has constant sectional curvature, extending the classical Tachibana theorem for manifolds with positive curvature operator. The condition of $\lfloor\frac{m-1}{2}\rfloor$-positivity originates from recent work of Petersen and Wink, who proved a similar Tachibana-type theorem under the stronger condition that the manifold be Einstein. We show that the same rigidity property holds for complete manifolds assuming either parabolicity, an integral…

In this article we study the stability problem for the Einstein metrics on Sasaki Einstein and on complete nearly parallel ${\rm G}_2$ manifolds. In the Sasaki case we show linear instability if the second Betti number is positive. Similarly we prove that nearly parallel $\rm G_2$ manifolds with positive third Betti number are linearly unstable. Moreover, we prove linear instability for the Berger space ${\rm SO}(5)/{\rm SO}(3)_{irr} $ which is a $7$-dimensional homology sphere with a proper nearly parallel ${\rm G}_2$ structure.
We prove a conformally invariant estimate for the index of Schrödinger operators acting on vector bundles over four-manifolds, related to the classical Cwikel-Lieb-Rozenblum estimate. Applied to Yang-Mills connections we obtain a bound for the index in terms of its energy which is conformally invariant, and captures the sharp growth rate. Furthermore we derive an index estimate for Einstein metrics in terms of the topology and the Einstein-Hilbert energy. Lastly we derive conformally invariant estimates for the Betti numbers of an oriented four-manifold with positive scalar curvature.
We prove that any simply connected compact 3-Sasakian manifold, of dimension seven, is formal if and only if its second Betti number is $b_2<2$. In the opposite, we show an example of a 7-dimensional Sasaki-Einstein manifold, with second Betti number $b_2\geq 2$, which is formal. Therefore, such an example does not admit any 3-Sasakian structure. Examples of 7-dimensional simply connected compact formal Sasakian manifolds, with $b_2\geq 2$, are also given.
A series of examples of toric Sasaki-Einstein 5-manifolds is constructed. These are submanifolds of toric 3-Sasaki 7-manifolds and such a Sasaki-Einstein 5-manifold corresponds uniquely to a toric 3-Sasaki 7-manifold. This produces examples of quasi-regular Sasaki-Einstein structures on every #k(S^2 xS^3), for k odd. Toric geometry is used to construct examples of positive Ricci curvature toric Sasaki structures on non-spin 5-manifolds. Then the join construction is used to construct infinitely many quasi-regular toric Sasaki-Einstein manifolds with arbitrarily high second Betti number in ever…
We present an analytic construction of complete non-compact 8-dimensional Ricci-flat manifolds with holonomy Spin(7). The construction relies on the study of the adiabatic limit of metrics with holonomy Spin(7) on principal Seifert circle bundles over asymptotically conical G2 orbifolds. The metrics we produce have an asymptotic geometry, so-called ALC geometry, that generalises to higher dimensions the geometry of 4-dimensional ALF hyperkähler metrics. We apply our construction to asymptotically conical G2 metrics arising from self-dual Einstein 4-orbifolds with positive scalar curvature. As …
We construct a compact Kähler manifold of nonnegative quadratic bisectional curvature, which does not admit any Kähler metric of nonnegative orthogonal bisectional curvature. The manifold is a 7-dimensional Kähler C-space with second Betti number equal to 1, and its canonical metric is a Kähler-Einstein metric of positive scalar curvature
In this note, we construct new examples of Lorentzian Sasaki-Einstein (LSE) metrics on Smale manifolds $M.$ It has already been established in \cite{Gmz2} that such metrics exist on the so-called torsion free Smale manifolds, i.e. the $k$-fold connected sum of $S^{2}\times S^{3}.$ Now, we show that LSE metrics exist on Smale manifolds for which $H_{2}(M,\mathbb{Z})_{tor}$ is nontrivial. In particular, we show that most simply-connected positive Sasakian rational homology 5-spheres are also negative Sasakian (hence Lorentzian Sasaki-Einstein). Moreover, we show that for each pair of positive in…
We shall prove a new non-vanishing theorem for the stable cohomotopy Seiberg-Witten invariant of connected sums of 4-manifolds with positive first Betti number. The non-vanishing theorem enables us to find many new examples of 4-manifolds with non-trivial stable cohomotopy Seiberg-Witten invariants and it also gives a partial, but strong affirmative answer to a conjecture concerning non-vanishing of the invariant. Various new applications of the non-vanishing theorem are also given. For example, we shall introduce variants $\barλ_k$ of Perelman's $\barλ$ invariants for real numbers $k$ and com…
Let $L_f$ be a link of an isolated hypersurface singularity defined by a weighted homogenous polynomial $f.$ In this article, we give ten examples of $2$-connected seven dimensional Sasaki-Einstein manifolds $L_f$ for which $H_{3}(L_f, \mathbb{Z})$ is completely determined. Using the Boyer-Galicki construction of links $L_f$ over particular Kähler-Einstein orbifolds, we apply a valid case of Orlik's conjecture to the links $L_f $ so that one is able to explicitly determine $H_{3}(L_f,\mathbb{Z}).$ We give ten such new examples, all of which have the third Betti number satisfy $10\leq b_{3}(L_{…
Let $M = G/H$ be a connected simply connected homogeneous manifold of a compact, not necessarily connected Lie group $G$. We will assume that the isotropy $H$-module $\mathfrak {g/h}$ has a simple spectrum, i.e. irreducible submodules are mutually non-equivalent. There exists a convex Newton polytope $N=N(G,H)$, which was used for the estimation of the number of isolated complex solutions of the algebraic Einstein equation for invariant metrics on $G/H$ (up to scaling). Using the moment map, we identify the space $\mathcal{M}_1$ of invariant Riemannian metrics of volume 1 on $G/H$ with the int…
On a given compact complex manifold or orbifold $(M,J)$, we study the existence of Hermitian metrics $\tilde g$ in the conformal classes of Kähler metrics on $(M,J)$, such that the Ricci tensor of $\tilde g$ is of type $(1,1)$ with respect to the complex structure, and the scalar curvature of $\tilde g$ is constant. In real dimension $4$, such Hermitian metrics provide a Riemannian counter-part of the Einstein--Maxwell (EM) equations in general relativity, and have been recently studied in \cite{ambitoric1, LeB0, LeB, KTF}. We show how the existence problem of such Hermitian metrics (which we …
An affirmative answer is given to a conjecture of Myers concerning the existence of 5-dimensional regular static vacuum solutions that balance an infinite number of black holes, which have Kasner asymptotics. A variety of examples are constructed, having different combinations of ring $S^1\times S^2$ and sphere $S^3$ cross-sectional horizon topologies. Furthermore, we show the existence of 5-dimensional vacuum solitons with Kasner asymptotics. These are regular static space-periodic vacuum spacetimes devoid of black holes. Consequently, we also obtain new examples of complete Riemannian manifo…
Let M be a compact locally conformal hyperkaehler manifold. We prove a version of Kodaira-Nakano vanishing theorem for M. This is used to show that M admits no holomorphic differential forms, and the cohomology of the structure sheaf $H^i(O_M)$ vanishes for i>1. We also prove that the first Betti number of M is 1. This leads to a structure theorem for locally conformally hyperkaehler manifolds, describing them in terms of 3-Sasakian geometry. Similar results are proven for compact Einstein-Weyl locally conformal Kaehler manifolds.
We determine an explicit expression for the Ricci tensor of a K-manifold, that is of a compact Kaehler manifold M with vanishing first Betti number, on which a semisimple group G of biholomorphic isometries acts with an orbit of codimension one. We also prove that the Kaehler form and the Ricci form of M are uniquely determined by two special curves with values in g = Lie(G), say Z, Z': R \to g = Lie(G) and we show how the curve Z' is determined by the curve Z. These results are used in another work with F. Podesta', where new examples of non-homogeneous compact Kaehler-Einstein manifolds with…
This paper is concerned with the construction of special metrics on non-compact 4-manifolds which arise as resolutions of complex orbifold singularities. Our study is close in spirit to the construction of the hyperkaehler gravitational instantons, but we focus on a different class of singularities. We show that any resolution X of an isolated cyclic quotient singularity admits a complete scalar-flat Kaehler metric (which is hyperkaehler if and only if c_1(X)=0), and that if c_1(X)<0 then X also admits a complete (non-Kaehler) self-dual Einstein metric of negative scalar curvature. In particul…
We provide bounds on the first Betti number and structure results for the fundamental group of horizon cross-sections for extreme stationary vacuum black holes in arbitrary dimension, without additional symmetry hypotheses. This is achieved by exploiting a correspondence between the associated near-horizon geometries and the mathematical notion of $m$-quasi Einstein metrics, in addition to generalizations of the classical splitting theorem from Riemannian geometry. Consequences are analyzed and refined classifications are given for the possible topologies of these black holes.
We prove that any totally geodesic hypersurface $N^5$ of a 6-dimensional nearly Kähler manifold $M^6$ is a Sasaki-Einstein manifold, and so it has a hypo structure in the sense of \cite{ConS}. We show that any Sasaki-Einstein 5-manifold defines a nearly Kähler structure on the sin-cone $N^5\times\mathbb R$, and a compact nearly Kähler structure with conical singularities on $N^5\times [0,π]$ when $N^5$ is compact thus providing a link between Calabi-Yau structure on the cone $N^5\times [0,π]$ and the nearly Kähler structure on the sin-cone $N^5\times [0,π]$. We define the notion of {\it nearly…
